Digital Teaching Materials for Historical Narrative Texts Oriented to Character Education for SD/MI Students

This research aims to develop digital teaching materials for historical narrative texts oriented towards character education for SD/MI students. Background to the problem of this research 1) What is the need for digital teaching materials for historical narrative texts oriented towards character education for SD/MI? 2) How are digital teaching materials for historical narrative texts oriented towards character education for SD/MI? 3) What is the feasibility of digital teaching materials for historical narrative texts oriented towards character education for SD/MI? This research uses research and development methods with the ADDIE (Analysis Design Development Implementation Evaluate) model. The steps in this research consist of needs analysis, designing digital teaching materials, developing digital teaching materials, implementing digital teaching material products, and product evaluation (digital teaching materials). Data collection in this research was by collecting data from the results of expert validation questionnaires and student assessment questionnaires. The data obtained was analyzed descriptively using a Likert scale. The results of the validation test by material experts obtained a value of 2.93, the validation test by media experts obtained a value of 3.00. The validation test by the Indonesian language teacher received a value of 3.03. The results of implementing e-module teaching materials in schools received a positive response from students with a score of 3.2. The conclusion of this research is that digital historical narrative text teaching materials oriented towards character education for SD/MI students meet the appropriate criteria for use as teaching materials by students or teachers in Indonesian language subjects. Tingkat Keterbacaan dan Keefektifan Kalimat pada Teks Narasi sebagai Bahan Ajar Membaca Pemahaman di Buku Narasi Literasi Bahasa Indonesia Kelas IX Terbitan Direktorat Pendidikan

Reading comprehension skills are a major focus in Indonesian language learning, especially in grade IX, as narrative comprehension helps students relate information in a broader context. The purpose of this study is to provide comprehensive guidelines for the development of more effective Indonesian learning materials and to strengthen the reading comprehension skills of grade IX students. This study evaluates the readability using Fry's Graph Formula and the effectiveness of sentences in narrative texts as teaching materials for reading comprehension in grade IX Indonesian literacy narrative books. By using the Fry's Graph Formula analysis method, this research helps to adapt the text to the intended grade level. Of the six narrative texts analyzed, there are three that have good readability, two that have poor readability, and one that has poor readability. In addition, this study analyzed sentence ineffectiveness. Sentence ineffectiveness can be caused by various reasons, such as word inefficiency, inaccurate use of conjunctions, inaccuracy in word usage, inaccurate use of punctuation, and meaninglessness. The results of the study provide insight into the quality of grade IX Indonesian literacy narrative teaching materials and contribute to improving students' reading comprehension and ability. The readability and effectiveness of the sentences in the grade IX Indonesian literacy narrative book are very important to ensure that the material presented can be well understood by students, thus having a positive impact on the learning process and the achievement of learning objectives.

Research on the Creative Principles of Chinese Thriller Films

The Chinese thriller film, as a specific genre, exhibits unique principles and characteristics in its creation, which is also significant in terms of cultural heritage and creative expression. Nevertheless, the current systematic investigation of the research principles and creative connotations of the sample remains inadequate. The objective of this paper is to analyze the research principles of Chinese thriller-horror films and identify the sources and evolution of the narrative materials underlying them. The analysis employs both the literature analysis method and the case study method. The former is used to examine the expression of the combination of thriller imagery and traditional Chinese cultural symbols in the film, while the latter is employed to explore the cultural elements belonging to the Chinese nation's tradition. Additionally, the analysis considers the distinctive characteristics of the film in terms of artistic scene layout, sound, and color, as well as the significance and role of such films. By examining the fundamental principles of Chinese thriller film-making, it is possible to gain a deeper understanding of the distinctive appeal and artistic nuances of Chinese thrillers, offering insights that can inform and inspire the creation of Chinese films.

The welcoming value in (re) constructing one another: (Re) documenting a post materialist Borderlands approach to inclusive early childhood identity studies

As two Remida Reggio-inspired early childhood teacher educators, we (re)consider our research embedded in longtime writings and workshops together. (Re)cycling our public/visible thinking with Remida-inspired reuse materials’ educational ecologies, we (re)write together here to find new ways of envisioning our shared identities as related to a reuse materials pedagogical journey. Our methodological approach is (re)documentation. By (re)documenting—revisiting over time/space the pedagogical narrative material—we salvage and offer ourselves new life and identity(ies). We make (re)visible a presentation shared again and again over 3 years, entitled Co-constructing Identities with Reuse Materials. Our presentation is generated within a creative reuse center situated in a social-constructivist infant-toddler and preschool program. Our recyclables include presentation slides-notes, and revised scraps of literature review repurposed from a dissertation. Our hope is to share a way to really see into our co-collaborators’ lives as (re)documentarians living IN and WITH documented experiences.

Digital Comics: Integrating CALL in Enhancing Students' Reading Skill at the High School Level

Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is a learning method that uses computer technology in the language learning process. This includes the use of software, applications, and other digital resources to assist students in learning English. Digital comics are a form of comic presented in digital format, which can be accessed and read via electronic devices such as computers, tablets or smartphones. This research aims to assess the effectiveness of learning CALL with digital comics in improving English reading skills. This research involves a pre-test and post-test comparison between experimental and control groups using narrative text material. There were 60 students from class XI. A and XI. C SMA 2 Muhammadiyah Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2023/2024. The results showed a significant increase in the scores of the experimental group post-intervention, especially in the higher score range (84-100). The findings show that the CALL method with digital comics is an effective tool to improve English reading skill among high school students.

The selection of narrative information in John 6:1–14 and 22–71: On focalisation

The article is part of a series of investigations into the Johannine text, specifically focussing on the performative nature of focalisation. Previous contributions by the researcher posited and illustrated that the construction of a narrative involves a deliberate intention by the author to prompt the reader to take action based on their reading. The present article continues to explore the pragmatic power of the narrative of John 6:1–14 and 22–71, utilising focalisation as an analytical tool. The analysis underscores what the narrative strives to teach, revealing Jesus as the bread of life, crucial for satisfying the hunger of the soul, that is salvation leading to eternal life. The careful selection of narrative materials in this passage aligns with the overarching purpose of the Fourth Gospel, as outlined in 20:30–31, and is deemed to have a performative function towards the reader.Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary: The article’s unique contribution lies in demonstrating that traditional exegetical methods, for example, grammatical-historical approach and others, can be supplemented by literary critical methods such as focalisation to expound or extract meaning from biblical narratives. In this article, the field of (traditional) hermeneutics is supplemented by a literary critical approach to get the better of what the text can offer to the reader.

Sentiment Analysis by Hierarchical Deep Neural Networks for Audience Opinion Mining

The prominent applications of sentiment analysis encompass various fields, including marketing, customer service, and communication. The conventional bag-of-words approach for measuring sentiment only counts term frequencies, while neglecting the position of the terms within the discourse. As a remedy, this research aims to build a discourse-aware approach upon the discourse structure of documents. For this purpose, rhetorical structure theory (RST) is utilized to label (sub-) clauses according to their hierarchical relationships, and then polarity scores are assigned to individual leaves. To learn from the resulting rhetorical structure, a hierarchical category structure-based deep recurrent neural network is proposed to infer underlying tensors of salient passages of narrative materials to process the complete discourse tree. The significance of this study lies in enhancing the structure of exploding and vanishing gradients in deep recurrent neural networks and also improving evaluation criteria in text analysis using the structure of opinion mining. The proposed approach is RST-HRNN. Exploding gradients is a process in the backpropagation stage aimed at continuously sampling the gradient of the model parameter in the opposite direction based on the weight (w), which is continuously updated until reaching the minimum global function.

Narrative Inquiry into the Challenges of Implementing XR Technologies in Education: Voices from Future Hub 2023

This research explores the multifaceted challenges and opportunities inherent in the integration of Extended Reality (XR) technologies—comprising Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR)—within educational contexts. Utilizing a narrative inquiry methodology, this study draws upon the experiences and perspectives of participants at the Future Hub Forum 2023, a gathering of researchers, educators, and technologists specializing in immersive learning technologies. Through the collection and analysis of narrative materials, including interviews, presentations, and observational data, the study aims to elucidate the complex interplay of technological, pedagogical, and infrastructural challenges that influence the adoption and effective use of XR technologies in education. Key findings reveal significant barriers to widespread XR integration, including issues of access and affordability, which exacerbate existing digital divides; challenges in training and securing buy-in from stakeholders; content creation and deployment hurdles; and infrastructural and administrative obstacles. Despite these challenges, the study also uncovers a collective optimism about the transformative potential of XR technologies to revolutionize pedagogical approaches and learning outcomes, provided these barriers can be overcome. The implications of this research extend beyond the immediate context of XR technology implementation, offering insights into broader questions of educational equity, the evolving landscape of digital pedagogy, and the future of immersive learning experiences. By highlighting the voices and experiences of those at the forefront of XR adoption in education, this paper contributes to a deeper understanding of the conditions necessary for the successful integration of these technologies into diverse educational settings. Through its narrative approach, the study also underscores the value of storytelling and personal narratives in uncovering the nuanced realities of educational technology adoption, offering a rich, contextualized perspective that quantitative methods alone may not capture.

The Effect of Using Wordwall Media on Reading Skills and Comprehension of Narrative Text

This research was motivated by the lack of reading comprehension of fourth grade students at SDS An Najwa Marelan in narrative text material. This is because teachers have not implemented learning media and students do not understand reading narrative texts. As a result, students feel bored reading the text and find it difficult to come up with ideas for paragraphs and the content of the story. The aim of this research is to describe the use of wordwall media and find out whether there is an influence of wordwall media on the ability to read and understand narrative text. This type of research is quantitative research, the data collection method used is a questionnaire. The research results show that there is an influence of using wordwall media in improving reading comprehension skills in determining the main idea in each paragraph, searching for information and understanding the content of the story and retelling the story using their own language. The pragmatic nature of focalisation in John 4:1–42: Reading John as a performative text

This article suggests that the process of crafting a narrative reflects the author’s intentional introduction of bias to guide the reader towards taking specific actions based on their reading. The reader is intentionally steered towards a particular cognitive and pragmatic engagement with the text through the author’s selection, organisation and presentation of narrative materials. This claim forms the impetus for the current exploration. The article explores the pragmatic nature and/or power of the author’s selection of narrative material in John 4:1–42 on the reader. It seeks to demonstrate that the selection and presentation of narrative material are not neutral in their pragmatic intent. While acknowledging a few insightful contributions to this topic, this article contends that certain pragmatic dynamics related to narrative material selection have not been extensively explored by scholars, particularly in the context of utilising focalisation as an analytical tool.Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary: The distinctive contribution of the article lies in its demonstration that focalisation, when employed as an analytical tool, particularly in the context of John 4:1–42, exerts pragmatic effects on the implied reader of the text.

Development of English Learning Media in Narrative Texts based on RPG Games with Pancasila Character at SMP Plus Al-Ijtihad

SMP Al-Ijtihad 2 Kuta Baru is a school located in Tangerang. Lack of learning media affects to the learning process. A variety learning media can increase student’s motivation towards learning English is an ongoing problem. So, Development of English Learning Media in Narrative Texts based on RPG Games with Pancasila Character was created to make it easier for students to learn English. The aim of this research is to develop an English educational game that can increase the interest and understanding of students regarding narrative text material containing the character of Pancasila in English subjects. The method used is the Waterfall Method. This research used Waterfall. The results of the development of learning media that is interesting, interactive and user friendly. From the results of calculating the level of feasibility, it can be seen that the satisfaction value of respondents from filling in the questionnaire is 95% of the 10 respondents. It can be concluded that the English learning media in narrative text with Pancasila characters has reached good impact and satisfactory level. In conclusion, the development of narrative text English learning media has good potential to increase students’ in SMP Al-Ijtihad 2 Kutbaru interest and understanding of narrative text material in English subjects.

기악곡의 감상 교육에서 서사의 활용 - 베토벤의 “운명” 교향곡을 중심으로 -

Instrumental music is not easy to deal with the appreciation education because the musical content is highly abstract. Moreover, since the phrase "appreciate music" is often used in schools, there is a tendency to immediately encounter difficult instrumental music as objects of appreciation rather than objects of listening. This study highlights the terminological relation between appreciation and listening and suggests that teachers make use of narrative materials which enable to show the musical structure of the piece. As exemplified in Beethoven's "Fate" Symphony, the value of the work can be appreciated by examining the entire flow of the piece. In order to lead listeners to musical imagnation, there are already some narrative materials in visual forms for this piece, but pictures tend to hinder students from chasing musical expression. Therefore, the researcher instantiates how to develop narrative materials in wording. This approach enhances cohesiveness of listening to music and contributes to conducting comprehensive appreciation of understanding, enjoying, and evaluating.

Development of QR Code Based Historical Narrative Text Teaching Materials to Improve Students' Skills in Extracting Historical Information

Teachers have not integrated the technology that should be implemented to support the success of 21st century learning. The aim of this research is to develop and test the appropriateness of teaching materials for historical narrative texts based on QR Code Indonesian learning in grade V SDN Srondol Wetan and SDN Sendangmulyo 01 Semarang City. Development research model of Borg and Gall. The form of data collecting instrument, namely validation questionnaire. QR Code-based historical narrative text teaching materials are developed according to the needs of teachers and students to improve students' skills in extracting historical information. The development of QR Code-based historical narrative text teaching materials is designed with characteristics that specifically include (1) appropriateness of content/material, (2) eligibility percentage, (3) linguistic feasibility, and (4) graphic feasibility. QR Code-based historical narrative text teaching materials are developed based on the feasibility assessment of media experts, and material experts. Based on the feasibility assessment of media experts on teaching materials for historical narrative texts based on QR Codes, including in the criteria with an assessment percentage score of 90.83%. Meanwhile, material expert feasibility assessment on QR Code-based historical narrative text teaching materials includes criteria are very feasible with an assessment percetage score of 92.5%. As well as a recapitulation of 2 validators obtained an average score of 90% in the very good category so that it is suitable for use in learning activities. Design requirements for a digital storytelling application for people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

The current digital storytelling applications present advantages for individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI); however, there exists a notable oversight regarding their potential to facilitate group-based storytelling activities with this population. This study endeavors to identify design requirements for a more inclusive and accessible digital storytelling tool for people with MCI. The methodological framework encompasses distinct stages, commencing with focus groups and interviews (Stage 1), followed by prototyping workshops (Stage 2) and qualitative prototype testing (Stage 3). The comprehensive three-stage research involved participants residing in Beijing, China, including 43 people with MCI aged 65-95 years (M = 79.09, SD = 8.99), with a mean Montreal Cognitive Assessment score of 21.91 (range = 18-26, SD = 2.40). Additionally, 17 care partners and 10 occupational or clinical therapists actively participated. The culmination of the three-stage research process has yielded 12 discernible key design requirements. Preferred storytelling themes center around narratives designed to elicit positive emotions. The narrative material generation process involves a systematic approach, unlocking memories through carefully formulated questions. In memory retrieval, users are provided with hints, bolstering confidence and perpetuating a semblance of face-to-face interaction. The focus in story sharing lies in transcending mere narration and extending it to a wider audience. This case study centers on crafting a digital storytelling application to enhance social connections for people with MCI. It delves into crucial design requirements addressing memory challenges, emphasizing individual preparation and group sharing. The developed digital storytelling application demonstrates potential to offer valuable memory support and foster personal and collective connections. Future research will focus on formal testing to evaluate these outcomes.

The Great Padma: The Epic River That Made the Bengal Delta is a new volume that introduces the power, complexity, and cultural richness of the Padma to a global audience. The Great Padma is edited by Bangladeshi architecture scholar Kazi Khaleed Ashraf. Like the Bengal Institute’s other work, The Great Padma explores and illuminates Bangladesh and the eastern Bengal Delta, a region that has long been ignored or presented as a domain of poverty, vulnerability, and developmentalist intervention. The book, with 400 pages of visual and narrative material from dozens of contributors, depicts the complexity of the Padma in all of its culture-defining, landscape-molding, and devastation-wreaking power. The Great Padma will be of particular interest to readers engaged with the landscapes, built environments, and cultures of the eastern Bengal Delta and South Asia more broadly.

The Legend of Biton and Faaro: A Reinterpretation of a Creation Myth from the Epic of Bamana Segu Performed with Puppets and Masks in Mali

This contribution calls attention to Malian masquerades that reinterpret narrative material drawn from the epic of Bamana Segu through puppets and masks. After providing a general overview of African puppetry, the essay zooms in specifically on the Malian village of Kirango, located on the bank of the Niger River about 35 kilometers northeast of the city of Ségou. The inhabitants of this village (Bamana farmers and Bozo fishermen) celebrate masquerades in which puppets and masks are made to dance by puppeteers whose performance is accompanied by drum-mers and singers. In this context, no difference is made between puppets and masks: both are called sogo (‘animal’), because many of them represent animals such as the hippopotamus, the crocodile, various types of fish (Bozo), antelopes and the buffalo (Bamana). The essay then introduces two characters from the epic of Bamana Segu, Faaro (water spirit and creator god) and Biton (Mamari Coulibaly, a historical Bamana king who, according to a widespread legend, acquired power with the help of Faaro); and it goes on to discuss Faaro’s role in Bozo and Bamana masquerades and explain how a 2009 Bozo performance recreated the legend of Faaro and Biton. The final sections of the essay reflect on the masquerades’ significance with respect to collective memory and cultural identity as well as their possible evolution in the future.

Penerapan Strategi ‘Ada Tawa Ceria’ Dan Media Film Pendek Dalam Pembelajaran Menulis Teks Narasi Peserta Didik Kelas VII SMPN 25 Semarang 2022/2023

This research was motivated by the writing ability of class VII participants which was still not optimal. All of this is based on the fact that interest in writing is still low, difficulty in expressing ideas or ideas into narrative texts, often looking at original texts when creating stories or essays. This research aims to describe the application of the "Ada Tawa Ceria" strategy and short film media by Elka Sinema in learning to write narrative texts for class VII students at SMPN 25 Semarang for the 2022/2023 academic year. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques use test and non-test techniques. The test technique consists of assigning narrative text writing skills according to the short film shown by paying attention to the structure of the narrative text. Non-test techniques include observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the "Ada Tawa Ceria" strategy and short film media can be applied to students, especially when learning Indonesian with narrative text learning material. This learning strategy and learning media can be an alternative for teachers in teaching narrative text material.

Negotiating trust during times of uncertainty: haemophilia and AIDS

Trust forms the core of healing relationships. Mistrust can co-exist and complement trust by enabling patients’ to challenge medical decisions without fear of repercussion, thereby negotiating a more patient-centric approach. While trust can safeguard the therapeutic relationship during periods of medical uncertainty, a reappraisal of trust at such times can lead to its loss, adversely affecting this relationship. This occurred during the 1980s when haemophilia patients contracted AIDS from their treatment, a situation of iatrogenic harm at a time of evolving uncertainty. Published literature on how this impacted on doctor’s response is absent. Using legal and narrative material from the UK and elsewhere, this paper will address profoundly distressing dilemmas in the stance of haemophilia physicians towards their patients during the 1980s and how this impacted on trust. The paper argues that trust and mistrust are fluid during times of uncertainty. This trust is subject to social forces that are ethically challenging and beyond individual control. Its recovery requires fresh societal debate. This understanding is of fundamental importance in the training of medical students and doctors to become better physicians.

Powerpoint-Based Pop Up Book Media in Fifth Grade Historical Narrative Text Material in Elementary Schools

The problem was found to be a need for more variety of learning media in the learning process in the classroom, especially the Indonesian language learning content, causing low student interest in learning and difficulty in students understanding the material. This research aims to develop learning media, the suitability of the media, and the effectiveness of Powerpoint-based Pop-Up Book learning media as historical narrative text material for class V elementary schools. This type of research is developed using the ADDIE model. The subjects in this research were class teachers, students, and a team of experts. The data collection method used in this research uses observation, interviews, tests, and questionnaires. The data collection instrument uses a questionnaire sheet. In this research, data analysis techniques used several techniques, namely qualitative descriptive techniques, quantitative descriptive techniques, and inferential statistics. The results of this research were obtained from material expert tests of 96.4%, media experts at 95%, class teacher tests at 95%, and student tests at 91.25%. The results of the effectiveness of the pretest and posttest have increased knowledge competency. The results of the n-gain test stated that the media developed was quite effective for use in teaching and learning activities. It was concluded that the PowerPoint-based Pop-Up Book media on historical narrative text material is very good, effective, and quite suitable for learning and can improve student learning outcomes.

Effects of a death education based on narrative pedagogy in a palliative care course among Chinese nursing students.

Death education has been confirmed to be an effective method to enhance nursing students' attitudes and coping abilities toward death. However, integrated Narrative Pedagogy into the death education to explore educational effectiveness is still limited. The study aimed to evaluate the effects of a death education based on Narrative Pedagogy in a palliative care course on the attitude toward death, coping with death, and attitude toward caring for the dying among undergraduate nursing students in China. The study was designed as a pre-post intervention study with a quasi-experimental design. All the participants received 6 class hours of death education which was designed in a palliative care course. The death education includes preparation, presentation, discussion, reflection, and practice of the narrative materials. Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R), Coping with Death Scale (CDS), and Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying-Form B (FATCOD-Form B) were used to measure outcomes. Sixty undergraduate nursing students who consented. There were statistically significant increases in the mean score of neutral acceptance and approach acceptance in the DAP-R, CDS, and FATCOD-Form B before and after the intervention. This death education integrated Narrative Pedagogy which indicated to improve attitude toward death, competence to cope with death, and attitude toward the care of dying patients. The findings assist teachers in understanding the importance and urgency of death education, as well as providing a favorable approach to death education. However, the long-term effectiveness still needs to study in further.
