• A new designed ATR-IR-SEC cell was used for spectroelectrochemical analysis. • A conventional three-electrode cell was used. • A spiral nanoporous gold electrode was used to enhance the sensitivity. • Ferricyanide and two antioxidants were determined using this new cell. In this study, a conventional three-electrode cell was used for the attenuated-total-reflection infrared spectroelectrochemical (ATR-IR-SEC) detection but an innovative spiral nanoporous gold electrode (SNPGE), which was prepared by a one-pot single-step method, was employed as the working electrode to enhance the spectroelectrochemical sensitivity. Potassium ferricyanide (K 3 Fe(CN) 6 ) was used as a model compound for evaluating the performance of the ATR-IR-SEC cell and two antioxidants, gallic acid and n -propyl gallate, were determined using this device to know the potential applicability.
