The musculoskeletal system (MSS) is essential to allow us performing every-day tasks, being able to have a professional life or developing social interactions with our entourage. MSS pathologies have a significant impact on our daily life. It is therefore not surprising to find MSS-related health problems at the top of global statistics on professional absenteeism or societal health costs. The MSS is also involved in central nervous conditions, such as cerebral palsy (CP). Such conditions show complex etiology that complicates the interpretation of the observable clinical signs and the establishment of a wide consensus on the best practices to adopt for clinical monitoring and patient follow-up. These elements justify the organization of fundamental and applied research projects aiming to develop new methods to help clinicians to cope with the complexity of some MSS disorders. The ICT4Rehab project (www.ict4rehab.org) developed an integrated platform providing tools that enable easier management and visualization of clinical information related to the MSS of CP patients. This platform is opened to every interested clinical centre.

Demographic and Clinical Outcomes of the Patients with Shoulder Pain

Purpose: Localized shoulder pain is one of the most important pathologies of musculoskeletal system. A prevalence study has revealed that it is the third most common pathology among the locomotor system diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the statistical results of the demographic and clinical information regarding patients, who applied to our clinic with shoulder pain. Methods: Information of 68 patients with shoulder pain, who were registered in the first 6 months of 2011 to our Physical medicine and rehabilitation Clinique were examined. Patients\' demographic data and information regarding their complaints were obtained (e.g. duration, diagnosis, treatment, and so on.) and statistical analyses were performed on these findings. Results: Totally findings of 42 patients were obtained. The majority of patients were female, who were housewives. A large proportion of complaints were chronic with multiple diagnoses. Almost all patients received combined treatments. Conclusion: Even though our findings are in accordance with the literature, the low sampling size was a significant limitation.

Caveolins in the development and diseases of musculoskeletal system

Caveolins, essential scaffold proteins of caveolae, have emerged as versatile molecules that can influence numerous signaling pathways and disease processes. This brief review is focused on the role of caveolins in the physiology and pathology of musculoskeletal system and will discuss the key features of caveolins as related to differentiation and diseases of bone and muscle cells.

The publication of the book under review should be considered very timely: until now only translated editions were published on this problem, as a rule, intended for coaches and physicians of sports teams. At the same time, the pathology of musculoskeletal system of sportsmen and ballet dancers is studied by orthopedists-traumatologists, who, even if they are familiar with the specifics of surgical treatment of this contingent of patients, most of them have no clear idea of how rehabilitation process should proceed, what rehabilitation actions can be, what are general indications and contraindications for application of any means of rehabilitation.
