Effect of preoperative inspiratory muscle training combined with preoperative education on postoperative pulmonary complications in high-risk patients with lung cancer: protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

Preoperative inspiratory muscle training (IMT) is recognised as an important component of the preoperative management of lung cancer, although there is limited evidence for the delivery of a home-based IMT programme combined with preoperative education. We developed a programme combining short-term home-based IMT and preoperative physiotherapy education ('the programme'). This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of this programme in reducing postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) after lung cancer resection compared with standard care. In this randomised controlled trial, 114 participants scheduled for lung cancer surgery at the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University will be randomly assigned (1:1) to either receive usual care (information booklet) or usual care combined with the programme, which consist of short-term home-based IMT and preoperative physiotherapy education. The primary outcome measure will be PPCs using the Melbourne Group Score. Secondary outcomes will include health-related quality of life, maximal inspiratory pressure, 6 min walk distance, length of hospital stay, anxiety and depression levels, and hospital costs. The study has received ethics approval from the ethics committee of the first affiliated hospital of Fujian Medical University (approval no: MRCTA, ECFAH of MFU [2021]569). Participants will be required to provide written informed consent. The results of the study will be submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals. ChiCTR2300067464.

Optimized Kalman filtering in dynamical environments for thumb robot motion estimation

<span>Stroke, a prevalent nerve disorder in Indonesia, necessitates post-stroke rehabilitation like physical and occupational therapy. Hand and finger muscle training, crucial for restoring movement, often involves innovative solutions like finger prosthetic robotics arms. In particular, the advancement in thumb robotics emphasizes the estimation of thumb motion, where the ensemble Kalman filter square root (EnKF-SR) and H-infinity methods are deemed dependable for both linear and nonlinear models. Simulation results, using 400 ensembles, demonstrated nearly identical accuracy between the methods, exceeding 99%, with a 6-7% increase in accuracy compared to 200 ensembles. These advancements offer promising prospects for effective post-stroke rehabilitation and improved thumb movement restoration.</span>

Effects of using a mobile application on pelvic floor training in women with stress urinary incontinence: A randomized controlled clinical study.

Urinary incontinence (UI) is defined as any involuntary loss of urine that causes negative impacts on women's lives. Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is considered to be "level A" of scientific evidence in the treatment of UI. Despite its efficacy, it is known that the effect of PFMT may depend on continuous adherence. Therefore, healthcare professionals are looking for alternatives to improve adherence in their patients. Healthcare has been innovating through mobile device apps. Thus, the objective of this study was to verify the effects of PFMT with the use of a mobile device app in incontinent women. This was a controlled, randomized clinical trial that occurred remotely. A total of 104 women with stress UI and/or mixed incontinence, over 18 years old, literate, with preserved cognitive capacity, with internet access and a mobile device with the Android system, participated in this study. They were randomly divided into two groups: The App group and the Booklet group, which underwent a PFMT protocol guided by a mobile app and a booklet, respectively. Both groups received daily reminders to perform the exercises. Before and after 12 weeks of intervention, it was evaluated using the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF) and the King's Health Questionnaire (KHQ). Both groups showed improvements in the final ICIQ-SF score. However, superior results were shown for the Booklet group (App: pre: 11.5 [±3.8], post: 9.8 [±4.5]; Booklet: pre: 12.6 [±4.5], post: 7.4 [±4.3]; p = 0.03). It was concluded that PFMT, with the use of a mobile app, is capable of reducing UI and the impact of UI, but it is not superior to training with the use of booklet instructions.

Limb-girdle muscular dystrophies: A scoping review and overview of currently available rehabilitation strategies.

Limb-girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMDs) constitute a diverse group of inherited disorders primarily affecting skeletal muscle. Despite the absence of cures, rehabilitative treatments offer potential for preventing and mitigating loss of muscle strength. However, the role of exercise training in LGMD patients remains contentious. This review aims to provide an overview of the currently available motor rehabilitation strategies for the most common subtypes of LGMD. To identify relevant articles, we performed a systematic search in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science, focusing on muscular and respiratory interventions. The search resulted in 560 potentially relevant articles, of which 16 were included in the review. Eight studies concentrated on neuromuscular functional rehabilitation therapy programs, seven combined both neuromuscular rehabilitation and interventions to maintain or enhance respiratory functionality and one focused on respiratory intervention only. Altogether, the papers examined offered a comprehensive view on the rehabilitative strategies available and provided an indication of the most valuable practices to deal with patients' health and needs. Upon analysis, we conclude that, when tailored to individual needs, muscle training can enhance strength and functional abilities, positively impacting psychological well-being. However, generic protocols may lead to limited benefits, fatigue, pain, and compliance issues. Moreover, early management of respiratory symptoms and personalized respiratory physiotherapy can enhance patients' well-being and their capability to participate in muscle training exercises. Future studies should not only refine rehabilitation approaches but also assess their impact on patients' quality of life, including psychological factors like depression and self-esteem.

Improving Pelvic Floor Muscle Training with AI: A Novel Quality Assessment System for Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

The first line of treatment for urinary incontinence is pelvic floor muscle (PFM) training, aimed at reducing leakage episodes by strengthening these muscles. However, many women struggle with performing correct PFM contractions or have misconceptions about their contractions. To address this issue, we present a novel PFM contraction quality assessment system. This system combines a PFM contraction detector with a maximal PFM contraction performance classifier. The contraction detector first identifies whether or not a PFM contraction was performed. Then, the contraction classifier autonomously quantifies the quality of maximal PFM contractions across different features, which are also combined into an overall rating. Both algorithms are based on artificial intelligence (AI) methods. The detector relies on a convolutional neural network, while the contraction classifier uses a custom feature extractor followed by a random forest classifier to predict the strength rating based on the modified Oxford scale. The AI algorithms were trained and tested using datasets measured by vaginal dynamometry, combined in some cases with digital assessment results from expert physiotherapists. The contraction detector was trained on one dataset and then tested on two datasets measured with different dynamometers, achieving 97% accuracy on the first dataset and 100% accuracy on the second. For the contraction performance classifier, the results demonstrate that important clinical features can be extracted automatically with an acceptable error. Furthermore, the contraction classifier is able to predict the strength rating within a ±1 scale point with 97% accuracy. These results demonstrate the system’s potential to enhance PFM training and rehabilitation by enabling women to monitor and improve their PFM contractions autonomously.

Cost–Utility Analysis of Supervised Inspiratory Muscle Training Added to Post-COVID Rehabilitation Program in the Public Health System of Brazil

Objectives: This study aims to provide model-based cost–utility estimates for the addition of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) in COVID-19 pulmonary rehabilitation (PR). Methods: A cohort model comparing IMT with PR (intervention group) to IMT with only PR (control group) was used. The payer perspective from the Unified Health System in Brazil was adopted. Effectiveness parameters: Effectiveness was measured in quality-adjusted life years (QALYs). Probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed using 1000 Monte Carlo simulations. A beta probability distribution was assumed for utilities, and a gamma distribution was applied to the costs. A cost-effectiveness threshold of BRL 40.000/QALYs was applied. Results: As the threshold of BRL 40.000/QALYs, we obtained 512 (51.2%) simulations that can be considered cost-effective to IMT added in PR programs. IMT added in PR treatment was more expensive (USD 317.73 versus USD 293.93) and more effective (incremental utility of 0.03 to INT group) than PR alone. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) was 793.93 USD/QALY. Conclusions: IMT added to PR is a cost-effective alternative compared with PR for post-COVID-19 patients. This strategy may result in net cost savings and improvements in the QALYs for these patients.

Neuromuscular training, which includes balance exercises and plyometrics, improves proprioception and helps prevent falls and twists. Flexibility through regular stretching and dynamic warm-ups, such as the FIFA 11+, is crucial for preparing players physically and lowering injury incidence. Additionally, physiotherapists play a vital role in injury prevention through functional assessments to identify muscle imbalances and develop corrective exercise programs. Manual therapy techniques, joint stabilization exercises, and preventive rehabilitation further contribute to maintaining soft tissue quality and preventing muscle strains. Monitoring training load is another fundamental aspect of injury prevention, as abrupt changes in training intensity can lead to injuries. Using tracking technologies allows for better control of players' physical efforts. Studies indicate that implementing structured injury prevention programs significantly reduces injury rates and enhances athletic performance. Research highlights the importance of a multicomponent approach, individualized training, and load management to lower hamstring injuries. Collaboration among athletes, coaches, and health professionals is crucial to create a safe training environment. As football evolves, prioritizing injury prevention is essential for players' health, success, and career longevity.

The impact of exercise training in Fontan procedure patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract Background Patients undergoing the Fontan procedure experience long-term complications related to decreased exercise capacity. Exercise training(ET) has emerged as a non-pharmacological solution for increasing cardiorespiratory fitness. However, the effect and safety of exercise training in patients following the Fontan procedure are still unclear. Objectives We aimed to perform a meta-analysis comparing ET versus no exercise intervention for patients following Fontan operation in efficacy and safety outcomes. Methods We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases on November 23, 2023, for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing ET, including aerobic, endurance, or inspiratory muscle training, versus no exercise intervention in patients following Fontan operation. We computed mean differences (MD) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) for continuous endpoints. The primary endpoint was (1) peak O2 consumption. Our study also included the secondary endpoints of: (2) maximum workload; (3) peak heart rate(HR); and (4) peak saturation of O2. We performed a subgroup analysis between different exercise therapies. Results This meta-analysis included five RCTs and 154 patients. Follow-up ranged from 3 to 6 months. Regarding ET, two studies used aerobics, one used endurance, and three used inspiratory muscle therapy as exercise therapy for patients with Fontan operations. Our findings on the maximum workload endpoint were more significant for exercise therapy (MD 20.98W; 95% CI 5.32 to 36.65; p<0.01; Fig. 1A) compared to no intervention group. However, there was no significant difference in peak oxygen (MD 2.03 ml/kg/min; 95% CI -0.29 to 4.35; p=0.095; Fig. 1B), peak HR (MD 1.10 bpm; 95% CI -4.07 to 6.27; p=0.68); and peak saturation of O2 (MD 0.39%; 95% CI -1.93 to 2.72; p=0.74). A subgroup analysis between different ET types (aerobic vs. endurance vs. inspiratory muscle training) showed no significant subgroup interaction(p=0.91; Fig. 1B). Conclusion In this meta-analysis, ET is associated with a slight increase in maximum workload in patients following the Fontan procedure. Further multicenter RCTs are warranted to assess the efficacy of comparing different types of ET and their impact on peak oxygen consumption.

Systematic review and meta-analysis on the effects of physical activity-based interventions on frailty status and clinical outcomes in adults with long-term cardiac conditions

Abstract Introduction Frailty is common in patients with long-term cardiac conditions and is associated with poor clinical outcomes, but limited treatment options are available. Previous studies investigating interventions for frailty have shown positive results with physical activity interventions, however, these studies were largely based on general elderly populations. Aim To assess the impact of physical activity-based interventions on frailty and clinical outcomes in frail patients with long-term cardiac conditions. Methods A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted based on the PRISMA guideline, using Medline, Embase, CENTRAL, PEDro, CINAHL electronic databases for articles published between 2000 and 2023. Studies which recruited adults >18 years with long-term cardiac conditions (including angina, acute coronary syndrome (ACS), valve disease, heart failure (HF), atrial fibrillation, cardiac surgery and congenital heart disease) who underwent physical activity-based interventions were included. The primary outcome was change in frailty (measured using a validated tool) post intervention. We also assessed the effect of interventions on mortality and hospitalisation. Results We screened 2697 records and reviewed 91 full-text articles; 12 studies (14 articles) were included, involving 1394 patients. Median age of participants ranged from 64 to 82 years. Five studies recruited participants with HF, 3 evaluated participants post transaortic valve implantation, 3 recruited cardiac surgical patients and 1 study evaluated participants post ACS. Physical activity-based interventions were multi-domain, including a mixture of aerobic, strength, balance, endurance and respiratory muscle training; the majority (N=10) had individualised exercise prescription. Meta-analysis of 8 randomised controlled trials (RCTs) showed statistically significant improvement in frailty associated with physical activity-based interventions compared to controls [pooled standardised mean difference (95% CI) = -0.34 (-0.59 to -0.08), p = 0.01, I2 = 48%]. Seven RCTs evaluated change in frailty by short physical performance battery (SPPB). Meta-analysis of these studies showed a statistically significant improvement in SPPB associated with physical activity-based interventions compared to controls [pooled mean difference (95% CI) = 0.83 (0.31-1.34), p = 0.002, I2 = 49%]. (Figure) The magnitude of improvement in SPPB exceeded the minimally clinically significant improvement of 0.5. Three studies evaluated the effect of physical activity-based intervention on clinical outcomes, all of which showed neutral effect on mortality and hospitalisation. Conclusion Physical activity-based interventions in patients with frailty and long-term cardiac conditions were associated with significant improvement in frailty status, with neutral effect on mortality and hospitalisation. Efficacy of swallowing rehabilitative therapies for adults with dysphagia: a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Dysphagia leads to poor swallowing function and high risk of aspiration; swallowing rehabilitative therapies including jaw exercises, tongue exercises, chin tuck against resistance (CTAR), Shaker exercises, effortful swallow training (EST), traditional dysphagia therapy (TDT), and respiratory muscle training (RMT) including inspiratory muscle strength training (IMST) and expiratory muscle strength training (EMST) are a crucial part of dysphagia rehabilitation. However, limited evidence exists on the comparative efficacy of swallowing rehabilitative therapies in adults with dysphagia. This is the first network meta-analysis (NMA) to investigate the comparative efficacy of swallowing rehabilitative therapies for adults with dysphagia. Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, and PubMed were comprehensively searched until September, 2024. The Frequentist NMA model was performed in R-Software presenting standardized mean differences with corresponding 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for swallowing function and aspiration. Cochrane Q, τ2, and I2 statistics estimated heterogeneity and full design-by-treatment interaction random-effects and node-splitting models determined transitivity. Ranking of the swallowing rehabilitative therapies used the netrank function. The search yielded 7697 studies from which 25 randomized controlled trials with 1020 adults with dysphagia were included. The study findings revealed that CTAR + TDT (SMD = 3.44 [95% CI 2.42, 4.47]), EMST + TDT (SMD = 2.92 [95% CI 1.59, 4.25]), Shaker + TDT (SMD = 2.83 [95% CI 1.81, 3.84]), JE + TDT (SMD = 2.52 [95% CI 1.21, 3.83]), TE + TDT (SMD = 2.19 [95% CI 1.26, 3.12]), RMT + TDT (SMD = 2.14 [95% CI 1.36, 2.93]), and TDT (SMD = 1.92 [95% CI 1.42, 2.42]) showed very-large to huge effect in improving swallowing function. CTAR + TDT (0.93) demonstrated superior improvements for better swallowing function. Additionally, CTAR + TDT (SMD = - 1.82 [95% CI - 2.89, - 0.75]), Shaker + TDT (SMD = - 1.32 [95% CI - 2.36, - 0.27]), EMST (SMD = - 1.23 [95% CI, - 2.01, - 0.45]), and EMST + TDT (SMD = - 1.10 [95% CI - 2.15, - 0.04]) revealed very-large to large effect in preventing aspiration. CTAR + TDT (0.96) and Shaker + TDT (0.76) demonstrated superior improvements for reduced aspiration. The combination of swallowing rehabilitative therapies including CTAR + TDT and Shaker + TDT offers a more comprehensive approach for dysphagia management in adults. Physiotherapy management of acute perineal trauma: a patient satisfaction survey

Pelvic floor muscle (PFM) training is recommended in the immediate postpartum period because it can restore PFM function and prevent pelvic floor dysfunction. There are no national physiotherapy guidelines on how to deliver this intervention in the acute period. There is also no consensus on the need for outpatient follow-up to treat pelvic floor dysfunction that arises from perineal trauma, or as a preventative strategy in the long term. The aim of this study was to evaluate a current service provided for women with acute perineal trauma. The authors assessed patient satisfaction and compliance with physiotherapy advice, and identified preferences for future service development. One hundred and thirty patients completed satisfaction questionnaires after receiving inpatient physiotherapy treatment. Thirty consented to completing a retrospective telephone consultation about their care at 6–8 weeks postpartum. The questionnaire found high levels of satisfaction, and recorded a National Health Service Friends and Family Test score of 93. In the telephone consultation, 87% of the women reported that they were complying with ongoing PFM training. Eighty-five per cent of women who completed the questionnaire suggested that outpatient physiotherapy follow-up would be useful. Fifty per cent stated that options inclusive of outpatient follow-up would be useful for onward service development. Because of the high levels of satisfaction recorded and high compliance with the information provided in the acute postpartum period, it was concluded that the service should continue as it is. It is hoped that this service evaluation can be utilized as a benchmark for other acute and outpatient pelvic health physiotherapy services.

Physiological Response and Sports Injury Risk Relevant Biomechanics in Endurance Obstacle Course Races

Obstacle course races (OCR) have experienced significant growth in recent years, with millions of participants worldwide. However, there is limited research on the specific physiological demands and injury prevention strategies required for these events. This study aimed to analyze the physiological responses and injury risks in participants of a 5 km (Sprint) and 13 km (Super) OCR. Sixty-eight participants were assessed for cortical arousal, leg strength, isometric handgrip strength, blood lactate, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, body temperature, urine composition, spirometry values, hamstring flexibility, lower limb stability, foot biomechanics, and scapular kinematics, one hour before and immediately after the races. The results showed a significant decrease in leg strength (Sprint: r = −0.56, p < 0.01; Super: r = −0.54, p = 0.01) and urine pH (Sprint: r = −0.70, p = 0.03; Super: r = −0.67, p = 0.01) in both distances, with increases in urine colour, protein, and glucose (Sprint: p < 0.04). In the 13 km race, lower limb stability decreased significantly post-race (r = −0.53, p = 0.01). Positive correlations were found between performance and pre-race handgrip strength (Sprint: r = 0.71, p = 0.001; Super: r = 0.72, p = 0.01) and spirometry values (FVC, FEF 25–75%, FEV1) (Sprint: r = 0.52, p = 0.031; Super: r = 0.48, p = 0.035). Thermoregulation capacity, reflected in a higher pre-race body temperature and lower post-race body temperature, also correlated with improved performance (r = 0.49, p = 0.046). Injury risk increased post-race, with a significant decline in lower limb stability (p < 0.05). These findings highlight the importance of targeted training programs, focusing on grip strength, leg strength, respiratory muscle training, and hydration strategies to optimize performance and reduce injury risk in OCR athletes.

Effect of kegel pelvic floor muscle exercise on improving urinary disorder in rectum cancer patients after rectal surgery: a randomized clinical trial.

Postoperative urinary dysfunction poses a significant challenge for rectal cancer patients. While pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) has shown promise in other contexts, its efficacy following rectal cancer surgery remains uncertain. A clinical trial involving 79 rectal cancer patients found that initiating Kegel exercises post-surgery led to significant improvements in urinary symptoms compared to standard care. Adherence to exercises correlated with symptom reduction, with no reported adverse events. We have defined the main outcome of our study as the improvement in urinary function scores post-surgery. Effectiveness is considered as any statistically significant improvement in these scores. Early initiation of Kegel exercises shows promise in alleviating postoperative urinary dysfunction in rectal cancer patients. Further research is needed to optimize postoperative care protocols and enhance patient outcomes.

Comparative Analysis of Respiratory and Functional Outcomes in Children Post-Fontan Procedure Versus Healthy Peers.

Studies have shown that respiratory muscle training enhances functional capacity and pulmonary function in Fontan patients. However, diaphragm muscle characteristics in Fontan children have not been fully elucidated. The aim of this study was to compare respiratory function, maximal and submaximal functional capacities, and quality of life, as well as to assess diaphragm mobility and thickness, between Fontan patients aged 8 to 12years and healthy individuals. This cross-sectional study included 45 children-27 Fontan patients, Fontan Group (FG) and 18 healthy control Group (CG) subjects. Different examinations were performed: spirometry was used to analyze pulmonary volume and capacity; manovacuometry was used to determine respiratory muscle strength; chest ultrasound was used to determine diaphragm muscle characteristics; cardiopulmonary exercise and the six-minute walk test (6MWT) wereused to determine functional capacity; the AUQEI questionnaire was used to determine quality of life. Descriptive analysis and intergroup comparisons were performed for all the data. Compared with the CG, the FG exhibited impaired pulmonary function and reduced functional capacity. Significant differences in median values were noted for forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1): 2.39L/min, p = 0.002; forced vital capacity (FVC): 1.73 vs. 3.06L/min, p = 0.002; maximal inspiratory pressure: - 73 vs. - 117cmH2O, p = 0.007; absolute peak VO2: 1.09 vs. 1.51L/min, p < 0.001; relative peak VO2: 31.9 vs. 42.5mL/kg/min, p = 0.003; and 6MWT distance: 420 vs. 586m, p < 0.001. Diaphragmatic thickness, mobility and quality of life were similar between the groups. Despite the reduced functional capacity, impaired pulmonary volume and capacity, and respiratory muscle weakness of the FG compared to those of the CG, the diaphragm characteristics and quality of life were similar between the groups.

Prevalence of urinary incontinence in postpartum women and physiotherapy interventions applied: An integrative review.

This integrative review identified studies that reported the prevalence of physiotherapeutic interventions for urinary incontinence among postpartum women. This is an integrative literature review study. We used the integrative literature review framework proposed by Whittemore and Knafl to search for relevant literature. The search strategy for electronic databases was developed from the research question and definitions of key concepts, assisted by the librarian. Databases that were searched include Google Scholar, Medline (PubMed), CINAHL, and the Joanna Briggs Institute databases. Both qualitative and quantitative studies that met the inclusion criteria were included. We used the CASP tool to assess the quality of selected papers. The included articles were thematically analyzed. Thirty-six papers met the inclusion criteria for the review. Six themes emerged from the analysis: prevalence of postpartum UI; risk factors for postpartum UI; antenatal pelvic floor muscle training; conservative treatment and quality of life; experiences of postpartum women with UI; and possible coping strategies adopted by women. Most of the articles were quantitative studies (80.5%); 16.6% were qualitative and 2.7% adopted mixed methods. Urinary incontinence is common in postpartum women. Antenatal pelvic floor muscle training is protective against postpartum UI and should be the first-line treatment option.

An Exploration of Locomotor Syndrome among Geriatric Population – A Narrative Review

A locomotor disability in the geriatric population is a physical condition that impairs mobility and movement in older persons. It is frequently caused by age-related causes such as degenerative diseases, osteoarthritis, or neurological abnormalities. This impairment can have a substantial influence on older people's quality of life by limiting their ability to conduct daily activities independently, such as walking, standing, or climbing stairs. Addressing locomotor impairments in older persons is critical for preserving their mobility, independence, and overall well-being, ultimately improving their quality of life as they age.A comprehensive literature search was conducted, which were sourced from PubMed, google scholar, Japanese government websites, springer link, semantic scholar generated significant studies using the keywords like locomotor disability, older population, mobility, quality of life, aging. We included articles which were published from 2005–2024.Locomotive Syndrome (LS) affects a significant portion of the elderly population, with prevalence ranging from 8.4% to 50.3%, increasing with age and higher in women. It shows the correlations with osteoporosis and sarcopenia, suggesting potential shared risk factors or pathways. By this the older people tend to have lower quality of life, particularly concerning spinal alignment and trunk deformity. Exercise interventions, including locomotive training, aerobic exercise, and muscle training, are suggested for LS prevention. Vitamin D supplementation may benefit bone health and fall prevention in older individuals.Locomotor syndrome is a substantial concern, especially in ageing populations, with considerable implications for quality of life. Its prevalence, which is frequently associated with osteoporosis and sarcopenia, highlights the necessity of preventive measures including exercise and vitamin D supplementation. Recognising the impact of LS on mobility and well-being is critical for establishing focused interventions to prevent and manage its progression, thereby improving the overall health and independence of geriatric population.

OPTIMAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY FOR MAINTAINING HEALTHY SKELETAL MUSCLE FUNCTIONING IN ADULT ATHLETES WITH T1DM

The article analyzes various types of physical activity to find the best option for maintaining healthy skeletal muscle function in adult athletes with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Regular exercise is shown to effectively normalize their condition, while muscle training improves glucose absorption without insulin, significantly increasing muscle sensitivity both during and after exercise. The study highlights that proper blood sugar control and avoiding hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia during structured physical activity are crucial for managing insulin-dependent athletes. Exercise effects vary based on the sport, intensity, and individual factors influenced by external and internal conditions. The research stresses setting realistic goals for athletes with T1DM to ensure positive outcomes, focusing on avoiding stress. The study also explores physiological responses to different exercises and offers individual or group training recommendations that balance muscle training, condition management, socialization, and a normal lifestyle.
