Selection of communication facilities under a multigraduated tariff

In many computer network design situations, particularly in the local assess subnetwork, one is often confronted with the optimal allocation of multiple communications resources, subject to graduated tariff. In this paper we obtain such optimality criterion for the correct mix of facilities to be used in the system's design. An example from data communications, which motivated the study, is given.

The designer of computer networks is often confronted with the problem of the optimal allocation of multiple communications resources, subject to a graduated tariff. Such optimality criteria for the correct mix of facilities for use in system design are obtained. The paper gives examples from data communications.
