Research on Cultivation of Computer-aided Translation Talents under the Background of “Internet+”

In recent years, with the rapid development of language service industry, the original simple service has been far from adapting to the new development of the industry. Under the background of "Internet+", the scope of language services has expanded from simple interpretation and translation to the whole language service outsourcing, such as technical writing, website localization, multilingual information processing and other fields. Then we should start to cultivate computer-aided translation talents. At the same time, the requirements for language service practitioners are not only to master oral and written translation skills, but also to master it skills, project experience, market awareness, cross-cultural communication, professional quality, industry knowledge and localization skills, terminology management, translation technology, translation tools, typesetting and printing, translation management and other skills on this basis.

Towards semantically linked multilingual corpus

Multilingual information processing gains more and more attention in recent years with the development of information globalization. Multilingual corpus is a key challenge for multilingual information extraction, analysis, management and service in a wide range of systems. This work addresses on the study and analysis of semantic associations among elements in a multilingual corpus. A solution is proposed in this paper to optimize the semantic organization of multilingual corpus by linking the corpus elements into a semantic link network. This enhances the text-basd applications of multilingual corpus such as corpus linguistics study, dictionary search, machine translation and cross-lingual information retrieval.

Multilingual needs and expectations in digital libraries

PurposeThis study aims to survey academic users in order to identify their needs and expectations about multilingual information processing when they interact with digital libraries. The study specifically aims to determine the disparities in needs and expectations when users speak different languages.Design/methodology/approachA survey was designed to fill in the gaps in the knowledge about academic users' multilingual needs and expectations for digital libraries. The survey questionnaire incorporates questions about different aspects of the participants' multilingual needs and expectations covering multilingual needs, the multilingual behavior, often‐used multilingual information resources, and desired functions for the multilingual services, retrieval and interfaces in digital libraries. The results are obtained through statistical analyses and clustering methods.FindingsOverall, participants exhibited many multilingual needs during their academic activities. They often require multilingual information when they access academic databases or web information. Frequently, participants use online translation resources and tools, but they are not satisfied with the translation quality. Participants want many multilingual capabilities in digital libraries; they also want more sophisticated multilingual search interfaces. However, participants from different countries or who speak different languages show significant differences in their multilingual needs and expectations of digital libraries. This study's three user groups demonstrated clear differences in all aspects of multilinguality examined, as did the three latent groups identified through the clustering methods.Originality/valueFew studies have examined the multilingual information process in digital libraries from the point of view of academic users. This study draws its inputs directly from real academic users from different countries and provides insights into multilinguality in digital libraries.

Multilingual manager: a new strategic role in organizations

Today's knowledge management (KM) systems seldom account for language management and, especially, multilingual information processing. Document management is one of the strongest components of KM systems. If these systems do not include a multilingual knowledge management policy, intranet searches, excessive document space occupancy and redundant information slow down what are the most effective processes in a single language environment. In this paper, we model information flow from the sources of knowledge to the persons/systems searching for specific information. Within this framework, we focus on the importance of multilingual information processing, which is a hugely complex component of modern organizations.

The Multilingual World Wide Web

The advent of the World Wide Web and the ensuing growth in the popularity of the Internet have all but removed the significance of geographic borders in information sharing. The barriers that do remain are primarily linguistic and cultural. This has created a huge demand for translation. The dynamic nature of the Internet, and the unreliability of the information to be found there, means that translation needs to be carried out cheaply and quickly. This paper reviews the current state of the art in multilingual information processing in general and machine translation technology in particular. The work at Adastral Park to develop an 'Interlingual' machine translation system to assist with authoring multilingual documents is described.

The impact of the information age

The Internet era of the twenty‐first century will be one of unprecedented information exchange on a global scale, but there is potential for the cultures and values of certain nations to overwhelm and erase those of other nations. Toru Nishigaki, professor at Tokyo University's Information Center for Social Science Research on Japan, argues that a multilingual information processing environment is essential for ensuring a stable order in the twenty‐first century.
