ISSUES OF FORMATION OF PROFESSIONAL FOREIGN LANGUAGE COMPETENCE OF STUDENTS IN THE CONTEXT OF CONVERGENCE OF FORMAL AND NON-FORMAL EDUCATION

This article considers the peculiarities of theformation of students' professional foreign language competence in the conditions of convergence of formal and non-formal education. The necessity of integration of formal and non-formal education in foreign language education is substantiated. The role and significance of formal education provided by educational institutions and non-formal education carried out outside educational institutions in the formation of students' professional foreign language competence is analyzed. Special attention is paid to the interaction of these two forms of education and their influence on the development of students' linguistic and communicative skills. One of the main objectives of the study is to identify the educational needs of students in the conditions of formation of their professional foreign language competence. As aresult of the study, the authors made conclusions that the majority of students consider it appropriate to integrate formal and non-formal education, as it will allow them to master additional competencies and increase their motivation for learning. Thus,in conclusion, the authors of the article summarise the results of the study and draw conclusions about the significance of theinteraction between formal and non-formal education for the formation and improvement of students' professional foreign language competence.

Analysis of Students' Difficulties in Developing English Listening Skills: A Case Study of SMA 3 Yogyakarta

This study aims to analyze the difficulties faced by 11th grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Yogyakarta in developing English listening skills. Listening skills are an important aspect of English language learning, especially in the context of globalization. However, students often face various challenges, such as limited vocabulary, grammatical understanding, poor audio quality, and environmental distractions, which hinder their abilities. This research used a case study approach with qualitative methods, involving 30 students selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The results showed that 70% of students had difficulties in vocabulary, 60% in grammar, 50% were affected by audio quality, and 65% faced anxiety while listening. Most students preferred interactive digital media, such as video and audio, which helped reduce anxiety and improve their comprehension. Technology integration in learning was identified as a potential solution to overcome such difficulties and increase students' learning motivation.

Opioid receptor and dopaminergic gene expression increase in the brains of dominant medaka Oryzias latipes males after repeated fights.

The central opioid system and dopaminergic activity in mammals play key roles in mediating social reward, impulsivity, cognition, decision making, and motivation for learning and social interactions. Repeated positive fighting experiences enhance the gene expression levels of μ-type opioid receptor (Mor), tyrosine hydroxylase (Th), an enzyme involved in dopamine synthesis, and dopamine receptor type 2 (D2r) in the reward-related brain regions of aggressive mice. However, it remains unclear whether the opioid system and dopaminergic activity are associated with repeated winning in fish. In this study, we investigated changes in the expression levels of Mor, Th1, and D2r in different regions of the brain of adult medaka Oryzias latipes males after intermittent and continuous fight for 3 days. When a pair of males was provided a fighting opportunity for 20 min per day, we noted that within the 3-day observation period, aggressive winning males showed significantly higher expression levels of Mor in telencephalon and diencephalon, Th1 in diencephalon, and D2r in telencephalon than subordinate losing males. However, no such differences in gene expression level were observed between winning and losing males in the 3-day continuous fight. Further, no differences were detected in the total number of aggressive actions among the winners from each fighting test. However, the total number of "chase" actions, with a stronger aggressiveness index, was higher for the repeated winning male in the three-time intermittent fight than for the winner in the 3-day continuous fight. These findings suggest that repeated intermittent winning experiences with strong aggressiveness could be perceived as a reward by O. latipes males.

The Effectiveness of the Discovery Learning Model on the Quality of Islamic Cultural History Learning

Learning the history of Islamic culture can train students to think chronologically and foster nationalism in planning the future based on past experiences. This research aims to test the effectiveness of the discovery learning model in improving the quality of Islamic Cultural History (SKI) learning and determine learning models that can produce quality SKI learning. The research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method, involving an experimental class that applies the discovery learning model and a control class that uses the conventional lecture method. Data sources were taken from the pretest and post-test in both classes. The research was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Ibadul Ghofur with a sample of class 10 MIA 1 students as the experimental class and class 10 MIA 2 as the control class. The research showed that the discovery learning model effectively improved the quality of SKI learning, with the average post-test score for the experimental class (86.91) being higher than the control class (72.50). The N-gain score measurement shows that the experimental class is in the practical category (70.49), while the control class is ineffective category (35.10). This research concludes that the discovery learning model has also been proven to increase student activity and motivation in learning compared to conventional methods. In conclusion, there is a significant difference in the quality of SKI learning between the control and experimental classes, where the discovery learning method is more effective in improving the quality of learning.

Understanding Maritime Subjects in Vocational High Schools through Online Learning

This study explores the effectiveness of online learning for maritime subjects in Indonesian vocational high schools, focusing on how the rapid advancement of information technology has reshaped education in this unique field. Using a quantitative approach with 275 respondents, the research analyzes key factors that influence students' understanding of maritime subjects, such as digital literacy, motivation, and their perceptions of the effectiveness of online learning. The findings indicate moderate levels of both digital literacy and motivation for online learning, with flexibility being the most appreciated benefit. However, challenges related to social isolation were also noted. A predictive model developed during the research accounts for 43% of the variance in comprehension of the subject matter, identifying digital literacy and perceived online learning effectiveness as the strongest predictors. Additionally, the grade level of students significantly influenced their comprehension scores. This study emphasizes the need to integrate digital skills training and to employ engaging instructional strategies to enhance learning outcomes. Future research could investigate the use of immersive technologies, such as virtual reality or simulations, to better support practical skills development in maritime education, ensuring that students are well-prepared for real-world challenges in the maritime industry

Exploring and crossing boundaries in education – tinkering as an approach to breaching children’s formal and informal learning processes

This article explores the integration of tinkering as an approach to learning and teaching in the context of two Danish public schools. Tinkering, traditionally associated with informal learning, is examined for its potential to widen participation, and align with informal learning processes within a formal educational setting. The study, part of the larger Tech&Play project, investigates the characteristics of tinkering in formal learning settings and examines the roles of children and teachers in tinkering processes. The article introduces the Positioning Wheel, a reflection tool, to understand the roles and positions of children and teachers in experimental learning practices. It combines this with the Facilitation Field Guide developed by the Tinkering Studio to create a pedagogical and didactical framework. The findings indicate that tinkering encourages diverse participation and engagement, particularly in cross-curricular and thematic approaches. However, challenges arise in sustaining the tinkering approach within longer lesson plans and subject-specific contexts. The study suggests that while tinkering enhances motivation and flexibility in formal learning, further experiments are needed to fully explore its potential within the formal education system. The Positioning Wheel proves useful in analyzing the positioning of learners, emphasizing the importance of dynamic roles in pedagogical practices.

Exploring the Motivation of National Common Language Learning among Ethnic Minority College Students in Inner Mongolia

As the importance of the national lingua franca in social communication is increasingly highlighted, this study aims to explore the learning motivation of minority university students in Inner Mongolia regarding the national lingua franca, with the purpose of understanding and analyzing the factors that contribute to students’ learning motivation in a specific linguistic environment. This paper selects minority students in Inner Mongolia universities as the research subjects and collects data through questionnaire surveys and interviews. Combining quantitative and qualitative analysis methods, it reveals the multidimensional differences in learning motivation in terms of gender, grade, and major background. Empirical research results indicate that students’ learning motivation is jointly influenced by social environment, cultural identity, and career planning. Positive factors provide motivation for learning engagement, while negative factors hinder the improvement of learning outcomes to a certain extent. The conclusions of this study have certain practical value in providing targeted language teaching strategies for higher education institutions and also play a positive role in promoting language integration and cultural exchange among minority university students.

This research aims to analyze the role of social support on learning motivation among migrant students at the Faculty of Economics, Jakarta State University class of 2022. Migrant students often face challenges in the form of adapting to a new environment, which can influence their learning motivation. Social support, whether from family, friends, or the campus environment, is an important factor in helping this adaptation process. This research identifies types of social support such as emotional, instrumental, informational and self-esteem support, and their influence on learning motivation. Based on existing literature, social support can increase students' self-confidence, which has an impact on higher enthusiasm and motivation to learn. On the other hand, a lack of social support has the potential to cause stress, low self-confidence, and loss of motivation to learn. Using the case study method, this research examines the relationship between social support and the learning motivation of migrant students. The research results show that social support has a positive correlation with learning motivation. External factors, such as the campus environment and lecturers' teaching methods, as well as internal factors, such as personal interests and suitability of the field of study, also influence student learning motivation. This research is expected to provide new insights in increasing the learning motivation of migrant students through strengthening social support.

Analysis of Gender-bias in the Current State of American Education

Abstract: In today's society, educational equity has become the focus of global attention, and gender bias, as an important form of educational injustice, poses a significant obstacle to the growth of individuals and the ovall progress of society. This paper aims to explore the issue of gender bias in the current situation of American education, focusing on its manifestations, impact mechanisms, and potential improvement strategies. The study uses literature analysis, case study and data analysis to explore the gender bias in education in the United States. The subjects range from primary school to higher education, with data derived from government reports, academic research results, and social surveys. This study found that gender bias exists widespread in American education, not only in curriculum, textbook content, and teacher-student interaction but also profoundly affects students' learning motivation, self-perception and future career development. Therefore, eliminating gender bias and promoting educational equity are of great significance for the long-term development and prosperity of American society.

A Review of the Research on Teachers’ Motivating Style

With the deepening and development of the application of self-determination theory, the research enthusiasm for teachers’ motivating style is increasing at home and abroad. Teachers’ motivating style refers to the way that teachers motivate students. This paper starts with the theory of self-determination, and on the basis of in-depth elaboration of the connotation and measurement of teachers’ motivating style, reviews the relevant research on teachers’ motivating style at home and abroad. The results show that there are many factors influencing the formation of teachers’ different motivating styles. Meanwhile, different motivating styles also affect students’ learning motivation and learning engagement.

The Effect of Kupin Media to Increase Motivation in IPAS Learning Based on the Merdeka Curriculum at the Elementary School Level

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Kupin media on increasing student learning motivation in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subjects at the elementary school level, especially grade IV. The method used is quasi-experiment with RND approach, the respondents used are 25 students. Data were collected through observation of motivation and distribution of questionnaires questionnaire learning motivation before and after the use of Kupin media. The findings showed that the average score of students' motivation increased from 60.4 before using Kupin media to 78.2 after using it. This study shows that Kupin media is effective in increasing students' motivation in IPAS lessons. Therefore, it is recommended that Kupin media can be used gradually in the learning process to improve students' motivation and learning outcomes.

A Study on the Cultivation of Autonomous Learning Ability in College English Teaching

This paper aims to explore the cultivation of autonomous learning ability in college English teaching. Through literature review, current situation analysis, and empirical research, the article deeply analyzes the current problems and influencing factors of cultivating autonomous learning ability in college English teaching, and proposes targeted cultivation strategies and methods. Research results show that optimizing curriculum and teaching methods, enhancing students' autonomous learning motivation and interest, and cultivating students' autonomous learning habits and abilities are important ways to effectively improve college students' English autonomous learning abilities. The research results of this paper provide a useful reference for the reform and development of college English teaching.

Analisis Hubungan Mahasiswa KKN dengan Motivasi Belajar Siswa di SMPN 3 Maliku

This research discusses the relationship between KKN students and the learning motivation of students at SMPN 3 Maliku. The purpose of this research is to determine whether there is a relationship between KKN students and the learning motivation of students at SMPN 3 Maliku using correlation tests, to see the relationship and how strong that relationship is. Using a quantitative research method with a PAR approach, the data collection technique employs a questionnaire with a Simple Random Sampling selection and determines the sample size using the Solvin Formula. The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between KKN students and students' learning motivation of 0.877, which means that KKN students have a perfect relationship or correlation.

Pengaruh Penggunaan Game Edukasi Terhadap Motivasi Belajar Siswa Kelas XI di SMA Negeri 1 Kabun

The learning carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Kabun is known that the learning motivation of students is still low, this is due to the large number of students who have low motivation to learn, and teachers still use conventional media so that learning is less effective. This study aims to find out how much educational games affect the learning motivation of grade XI students in high school. This type of research is a quantitative approach in the form of Quasy Experiment with a type of nonequivalent control group design. The data collection technique used is a questionnaire. The data analysis techniques are normality test, homogeneous test, and hypothesis test with an independent test method of t-test samples. Where there were 70 students as a sample in class XI consisting of 35 people in the experimental class and 35 people in the control class. The results of the study showed that the use of educational games influenced the learning motivation of grade XI students, as evidenced by the sig value (2-tailed) which was 0.000, the value was less than 0.05 and the average score of the experimental class was higher than the average score of the control class, which was 87.97 > 69.69. From the hypothesis test that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the hypothesis Ha was accepted, and Ho was rejected, namely the Influence of Educational Games on Class XI Learning Motivation at SMA Negeri 1 Kabun

From Teacher Beliefs to Practices: Unpacking the Benefits and Barriers of Extensive Reading Programmes in Macau Secondary Schools

Extensive reading entails language learners’ independent reading of abundant materials suitable for their proficiency levels. Previous studies have revealed extensive reading as effective for improving various aspects of second language (L2) proficiency. However, many Macau secondary schools have cancelled or reduced their extensive reading programmes (ERPs), prompting the need for a qualitative study to comprehend these modifications. In this case study, five L2 English teachers from different Macau secondary schools shared their beliefs and practices during semi-structured interviews. Qualitative content analysis of the interview transcripts revealed all teachers supported incorporating extensive reading in their respective English curriculums; they believed students’ engagement in ERPs enhanced reading fluency and comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, and L2 learning motivation and confidence. However, the teachers also believed restricted time and unengaged students hindered the ERPs. The schools’ possible misinterpretations of extensive reading and their potentially unrealistic expectations regarding short-term returns against limited investment in extensive reading may have contributed to the abandonment or reduction of ERPs. To engage students in ERPs, schools should allow students to choose their own reading materials, reduce the emphasis on extensive reading tests, incorporate more intrinsic and extrinsic motivators, and consider combining extensive reading with reading strategy instruction.

The article discusses the problem of using modern computer technologies to develop learn¬ing motivation of young schoolchildren. This direction is considered one of the most promising directions in the development of education. Lessons using ICT are especially relevant in primary schools. Students in grades 1-4 are visual-practical thinkers, so it is important to structure their learning using the highest quality illustrative materials possible. It involves not only vision but also hearing, emotions and imagination in the process of perception. It is known that the main task of primary education is to train the student to continue his education and prepare him for life. Thus, the information technologies used in the learning process in primary classes create conditions for the formation of students' imaginations and perceptions, create conditions for a more complete and meaningful assimilation of lessons. By creating conditions for a more interesting organization of lessons, it also leads to an increase in the learning motivation of students.

Construction and Validation of Academic Support Scale in Middle School (ASSMS)

Research on social support in China has been relatively comprehensive as psychological development cannot be separated from the social environment. Family, teachers, and friends are the main sources of social support for middle school students. If we can fully utilize the academic support provided by families, teachers, and classmates in daily life, improve students’ personal efficacy, stimulate their learning motivation and desire, and provide corresponding emotional, resource, behavioral, and willingness support for middle school students, it will help them better enhance their learning adaptability, increase their investment in learning, and then improve their learning consciousness, ultimately promoting the enhancement of academic achievement and the development of their abilities. Therefore, based on the existing scales of social support and academic support, this study determined the academic support scale for middle school students, exploring the source of academic support from four dimensions: willingness support, resource support, emotional support, and behavioral support. Based on a literature review and questionnaire, a formal scale was formed to measure the academic support of middle school students. In total, 762 students from two middle schools in Shijiazhuang and Hengshui were selected as subjects for data analysis. Exploratory factor analysis showed that the scale was composed of four factors: willingness support, resource support, emotional support, and behavioral support, with a cumulative contribution rate of 54.15%. The factor loadings of the items ranged from 0.423 to 0.783. The indicators obtained by confirmatory factor analysis were χ2/df of 2.98, RMSEA of 0.072, GFI of 0.841, IFI of 0.902, TLI of 0.891, and CFI of 0.901. The Cronbach’s α coefficient was 0.955, the Spearman–Brown coefficient was 0.939, and the correlation coefficients between each dimension and the total scale were 0.892–0.945. The results show that the reliability and validity of the scale are within the acceptable range, in line with the standards of measurement, and can be used as a tool to measure the academic support of middle school students. This measurement can be used to evaluate the multidimensional academic support systems in middle schools and inform the development of targeted interventions to promote student success and well-being.

Impact of self-restraint by COVID-19 pandemic on mental health in college students-COVID-19 Longitudinal survey of the 2nd and 3rd waves

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health in students at university. [Method] 1880 students from university were surveyed. Survey period: July-August 2020 Demographic factors were used department, grade, gender, age. Mental health factors (PHQ-9 Japanese version, GAD-7 Japanese version, IES-R) were used. Decreased motivation to learn, loneliness: Japanese version UCLA loneliness scale was used. [Results] As a result of the survey, in (July-August), 737 patients (123 males and 614 females) were recovered (recovery rate 40.9%). As a result, in terms of gender difference, males had a higher total of "loneliness" than females and had a higher total of PTSD and "invasive symptoms". Students whose parents corresponded to corona had high "anxiety" and "depression". Students who felt rumors had high scores for "PTSD," "depression," "anxiety," and "loneliness." Students "seeking support" also scored higher on PTSD, depression, anxiety, and loneliness. Those who were "not very careful" about infection control were more likely to be depressed than those who were "careful", and those who were "quite careful" were less motivated to learn. Family structure and parental profession have no effect. In addition, the relationship between each psychiatric symptom (PTSD, depression, anxiety disorder) and "loneliness" and "motivation to learn" was examined using covariance structure analysis. When the model was examined, the models of "loneliness" ⇒ "decreased learning motivation" ⇒ "PTSD" ⇒ "depression" and "anxiety" were verified. In other words, it was shown that it is important to deal with "loneliness" to improve mental health and learning motivation during the COVID 19 pandemic. [Conclusion] At the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, college students may be high-risk persons with mental health problems.
