Pengaruh Model Pbl (Problem Based Learning) Terhadap Motivasi Dan Hasil Belajar Ipa

This study aims to determine the effect of the PBL (Project Based Learning) model on student motivation and learning outcomes, where the research was at SDI M. Ishak Bin Ramzan Kraksaan Probolinggo. This type of research is a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The study population was students of SDI M. Ishak Bin Ramzan Kraksaan Probolinggo which consisted of seven classes with a total of 86 students. The research sample was selected by double random sampling technique, one experimental class and one control class. Data collection uses a questionnaire instrument to measure learning motivation and learning achievement test instruments to measure student learning outcomes. Research data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis techniques. The average score of motivation after learning is 105.6 (high category) and the average value of learning outcomes is 87.17 (very high category). The results of inferential analysis using the t-test of learning motivation obtained a tcount of 1.89 and the results of the t-test of learning outcomes tcount of 4.57. Both of these results show that tcount > ttable (ttable 1.67). This means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. It can be concluded that there is an influence of the PBL model on the motivation and learning outcomes of students in class V SDI M. Ishak Bin Ramzan Kraksaan Probolinggo on the subject matter of objects and their properties.

Health Care Trainees' and Professionals' Perceptions of ChatGPT in Improving Medical Knowledge Training: Rapid Survey Study.

ChatGPT is a powerful pretrained large language model. It has both demonstrated potential and raised concerns related to knowledge translation and knowledge transfer. To apply and improve knowledge transfer in the real world, it is essential to assess the perceptions and acceptance of the users of ChatGPT-assisted training. We aimed to investigate the perceptions of health care trainees and professionals on ChatGPT-assisted training, using biomedical informatics as an example. We used purposeful sampling to include all health care undergraduate trainees and graduate professionals (n=195) from January to May 2023 in the School of Public Health at the National Defense Medical Center in Taiwan. Subjects were asked to watch a 2-minute video introducing 5 scenarios about ChatGPT-assisted training in biomedical informatics and then answer a self-designed online (web- and mobile-based) questionnaire according to the Kirkpatrick model. The survey responses were used to develop 4 constructs: "perceived knowledge acquisition," "perceived training motivation," "perceived training satisfaction," and "perceived training effectiveness." The study used structural equation modeling (SEM) to evaluate and test the structural model and hypotheses. The online questionnaire response rate was 152 of 195 (78%); 88 of 152 participants (58%) were undergraduate trainees and 90 of 152 participants (59%) were women. The ages ranged from 18 to 53 years (mean 23.3, SD 6.0 years). There was no statistical difference in perceptions of training evaluation between men and women. Most participants were enthusiastic about the ChatGPT-assisted training, while the graduate professionals were more enthusiastic than undergraduate trainees. Nevertheless, some concerns were raised about potential cheating on training assessment. The average scores for knowledge acquisition, training motivation, training satisfaction, and training effectiveness were 3.84 (SD 0.80), 3.76 (SD 0.93), 3.75 (SD 0.87), and 3.72 (SD 0.91), respectively (Likert scale 1-5: strongly disagree to strongly agree). Knowledge acquisition had the highest score and training effectiveness the lowest. In the SEM results, training effectiveness was influenced predominantly by knowledge acquisition and partially met the hypotheses in the research framework. Knowledge acquisition had a direct effect on training effectiveness, training satisfaction, and training motivation, with β coefficients of .80, .87, and .97, respectively (all P<.001). Most health care trainees and professionals perceived ChatGPT-assisted training as an aid in knowledge transfer. However, to improve training effectiveness, it should be combined with empirical experts for proper guidance and dual interaction. In a future study, we recommend using a larger sample size for evaluation of internet-connected large language models in medical knowledge transfer.

Virtual reality technology for workplace training: The case for developing cultural intelligence

Cultural intelligence (CQ) is becoming increasingly important in today’s globally interconnected business world, where employees from various national cultures work collaboratively. This research uses immersive virtual reality (VR) technology as a training device to help narrow the existing knowledge gaps in CQ scholarly literature and corporate diversity training. A VR head-mounted device was used to capture qualitative and quantitative data from participants to conduct a mixed methods study. After participants engaged in the virtual simulation, a method triangulation approach - using deductive thematic analysis, word frequency analysis, sentiment analysis, and correlational analysis - was used to draw conclusions from their reflections on CQ development. Results revealed a convergence of participant statements, sentiments, and CQ scores. In addition, the emerging themes aligned with the behavioral, cognitive, and motivational dimensions of the CQ construct. A fourth theme - VR experience - also emerged from participant reflections. Sentiments concerning their immersive experience in VR were largely positive. Lastly, the quantitative scores obtained by administering the CQ measurement scale showed a high motivational CQ score indicating participant eagerness to continue engaging in the VR environment. The topical themes that emerged from this study offer theoretical contributions and practical guidelines for CQ scholars, management researchers interested in exploring VR, and corporate training managers.

The Effect of Using Ice Breaking on Learning Motivation of Elementary School Students in Learning Science

This research was conducted due to the low learning motivation of elementary school students in participating in class learning, especially in science learning. One of the causes of low learning motivation is the lack of interesting innovations in learning, so that students tend to get bored and bored in learning. This low motivation results in low scientific literacy abilities of students. This study aims to determine the effect of using ice breaking on students' learning motivation and scientific literacy abilities. This research was conducted in an elementary school in a district in West Sumatra. This type of research is quantitative in the form of a quasi-experimental design. The data analysis used quantitative analysis using the Paired Sample T-Test. Based on the pretest results, the average motivation score of the experimental class that applied Ice Breaking was 49.842 and the post-test motivation score of the experimental class was 82.631. Based on the results of hypothesis testing conducted with the Paired Sample T-Test, tcount = 3.8421 and ttable 2.028 with a significant level of 5%. Thus t'count = 3.8421 &gt; ttable = 2.028, it can be concluded that there is an effect of using Ice Breaking on Learning Motivation of Elementary School Students in Learning Science.

The Invisible Threat of the Pandemic: Cervical Cancer Screening Change According to Health Belief of Women

Background: During the pandemic process, changes were made in cancer screening programs in order to reduce the density of hospitals and prevent the spread of the pandemic.&#x0D; &#x0D; Objective: To determine the health beliefs, thoughts and practices of women regarding cervical cancer and pap-smear testing during the COVID-19.&#x0D; &#x0D; Methods: The cross-sectional study was carried out with 361 women who filled out the questionnaire online through the social media application. Cervical Cancer and Pap Smear Test Health Belief Model Scale was used to collect data.&#x0D; &#x0D; Results: The women’s 81.2% stated that they did not have a pap smear test and 72.6% of them stated that the pap smear test should not be postponed during the pandemic. Their 76.7% stated that they did not want to get a self-swab smear test at home during the pandemic, 49.3% of them stated that they could get Human Papilloma Virus vaccine in the pandemic. Cervical Cancer and Pap Smear Test Health Belief Model Scale sub-dimension mean scores of Pap smear benefits and motivation (15.12 ± 4.96), pap smear barriers (40.09 ± 6.79), cervical cancer care/seriousness (26.21 ± 2.62), cervical cancer sensitivity (12.96 ± 1.88) and cervical cancer health motivation (7.36 ± 2.37).&#x0D; &#x0D; Conclusion:Although women’s perception of pap-tests and their level of cervical cancer sensitivity was found high, most of them did not have pap smear screening in the pandemic period. This may increase the incidence of cervical cancer in the future. In order for women to continue their participation in screening programs during the pandemic, health personnel should take the necessary precautions according to restriction and relaxation processes.

Feedforward‐ or feedback‐based group regulation guidance in collaborative groups

AbstractBackgroundCollaboration is a crucial concept in learning and has the potential to foster learning. However, the fact that collaborative groups act with a common understanding in a common task brings many difficulties. Therefore, there is a need for group regulation and guidance to support effective group regulation in collaborative learning. On the other hand, the focus should be on the effect of group regulation guidance intervention on the improvement of both individual and group performance, modes of motivational regulation strategies, and the progression of group metacognition.ObjectivesIn this study, group regulation guidance approaches were developed to support the collaborative learning of Computer Science university students. The developed group regulation guidance approach consists of feedback and a feedforward mechanism. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of these approaches on academic performance, group regulation performance perception, self‐, co‐, and socially shared regulation of intrinsic motivation, and group metacognition levels.MethodsThe study was patterned with a quasi‐experimental design. 65 students participated in the study, and various scales were used to collect data. Data were analysed using paired sample t‐tests, analysis of covariance, and multivariate analysis of covariance.Results and ConclusionAccording to the research results, academic achievement showed an increase in the experimental groups after the intervention compared with the pre‐intervention. The group in which the feedforward‐supported regulation guidance approach was used showed better learning success. In the group using the feedback‐supported regulation guidance approach, better group regulation, motivational regulation strategies, and group metacognition scores were obtained. Modes of motivational regulation strategies and group metacognition scores differed according to the experimental groups.ImplicationsWhile the results provide important clues for teachers and instructional designers, the developed approaches can be used as a framework for different fields.

Attitudes of Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men (GBM) toward Their Use of Amphetamine-Type Stimulants and Relation to Reducing Use in Three Canadian Cities

Background We explored attitudes of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM) toward their amphetamine-use and associations with reduced use over time. Methods We recruited sexually-active GBM aged 16+ years in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, Canada, from 02-2017 to 08-2019, with follow-up visits every 6–12 months until November 2020. Among participants who reported past-six-month (P6M) amphetamine-use at enrollment, we used logistic regression to identify demographic, psychological, social, mental health, other substance-use, and behavioral factors associated with reporting needing help reducing their substance-use. We used mixed-effects logistic regression to model reduced P6M amphetamine-use with perceived problematic-use as our primary explanatory variable. Results We enrolled 2,449 GBM across sites. 15.5-24.7% reported P6M amphetamine-use at enrollment and 82.6 − 85.7% reported needing no help or only a little help in reducing their substance use. Reporting needing a lot/of help or completely needing help in reducing substance-use was associated with group sex participation (AOR = 2.35, 95%CI:1.25–4.44), greater anxiety symptomatology (AOR = 2.11, 95%CI:1.16–3.83), greater financial strain (AOR = 1.35, 95%CI:1.21–1.50), and greater Escape Motive scores (AOR = 1.07, 95%CI:1.03–1.10). Reductions in P6M amphetamine-use were less likely among GBM who perceived their amphetamine-use as problematic (AOR = 0.17 95% CI 0.10 − 0.29). Conclusions Most amphetamine-using GBM did not feel they needed help reducing their substance use, and many reported reduced amphetamine-use at subsequent visits. Those who perceived their use as problematic were less likely to reduce their use. Further interventions to assist GBM in reducing their use are needed to assist those who perceive their use as problematic.

The effect of DNA-V model intervention on learning behaviors and stress in Chinese adolescents: A randomized controlled trial

ObjectiveThe Discoverer Noticer Advisor-Value (DNA-V) model is an adaption of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which focuses on adolescent development and value-led behavioral change. However, few studies have validated the effectiveness of this model in adolescents in learning environments. This study thus aimed to examine the effectiveness of a Chinese version of the DNA-V model in a Chinese middle school student population. Additionally, we sought to determine whether online or face-to-face versions of the model were more effective. MethodsOne-hundred and thirty-six middle school students were randomly divided into a face-to-face DNA-V group (n = 40), an Internet DNA-V (iDNA-V) group (n = 50), and a traditional group (control, n = 46). The intervention was administered with a 45-min psychology course once a week for six weeks. The three groups were assessed on three core variables of academic learning motivation, strategies, and confidence, as well as stress at three time points (pre-intervention, post-intervention, and at a two-month follow-up). ResultsRepeated-measures ANOVA showed that the Group × Time Point interaction was significant for learning motivation (F(4,266) = 2.746, p = 0.029, ηp2 = 0.04) and stress (F(4,266) = 3.681, p = 0.006,ηp2 = 0.05). Learning motivation scores showed no between-group differences at any of the three time points, but the iDNA-V group showed significant improvement at the two-month follow-up and the traditional group showed significant gains at post-intervention that were maintained until the follow-up test. The DNA-V group exhibited lower stress scores at follow-up than at the pre-intervention assessment (p = 0.002) and post-intervention assessment (p = 0.005), with significantly lower stress follow-up scores than those of the iDNA-V (p = 0.024) and control (p = 0.023) groups. ConclusionThese results suggest that different intervention formats of DNA-V can be used as an alternative to traditional adolescent school psychology programs. It is important to consider how to emotionally support students when designing and developing internet-based DNA-V intervention programs to increase the effectiveness of this program for stress intervention.

The Effect of Educational Program Based on the COM-B Model on the Adoption of Preventive Behaviors against the Tendency for Addiction in Sensation-Seeking Male Students of Junior School

Introduction: Drug abuse usually starts in adolescence; it is influenced by factors such as gender, age, psychological factors affecting sensation seeking and social communication. The COM-B model includes a full range of behavioral concepts and is suitable for intervention regarding substance abuse. This research was carried out with the aim of evaluating the impact of education on the prevention of substance abuse among students.&#x0D; Methods: An experimental study with a randomized controlled trial type was carried out. Using cluster method, two clusters were randomly selected from trhe schools on the outskirts of the city; one school was determined as intervention, and the other as control with a sample size of 50 people in each group. With Zuckerman's sensation seeking questionnaire, students were examined, and those with a positive score were evaluated with the COM-B substance abuse tendency questionnaire. Educational interventions were implemented for the intervention group. After completion of the intervention and three later, this questionnaire was completed by both groups.&#x0D; Results: In the intervention group, the scores of physical capacity (p=0/001), mental capacity (p=0/001), reflective motivation (p&lt;0/05), automatic motivation (p&lt;0/05), and preventive behavior against substance abuse increased after the intervention (p&lt;0/05), but no significant difference was observed in the opportunity score in the studied times. In the control group, there was no significant difference in the scores of any of the variables during the study.&#x0D; Conclusion: The implementation of educational programs based on COM-B model is effective in reducing the tendency of students to abuse drugs.

Teacher Motivation Nuances: A Latent Profile Analysis of Personal Utility Value, Civic Mindedness, and Future Professional Development

This study examined motivators of preservice teachers (PSTs) for pursuing a teaching career. We used latent profile analysis to identify four profiles of PSTs based on their scores on personal utility value, civic mindedness, and intentions for future professional engagement. Using logistic regression, we identified motivational differences among PST content areas and latent profiles. We found that early childhood education students had higher motivation scores than students from other certification areas across different profiles. We discussed recommendations related to these findings for teacher education programs, especially for identity development and nurturing the civic motivations of PSTs who aspire to use their teaching to improve their communities.

Relationship between nurses’ perception of professional shared governance and their career motivation: A cross-sectional study

ObjectivesThis study aimed to investigate the level of professional shared governance and career motivation and their relationship among nurses in Egypt. MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted. A total of 724 nurses working in inpatient medical, surgical, and critical care units in Alexandria Main University Hospital were recruited from May to August 2022. The Index of Professional Nursing Governance (IPNG) version 3.0 and the Career Motivation Scale were used for evaluation. ResultsThe IPNG version 3.0 total score was 109.18 ± 22.76, that nurses perceived had a low level of professional shared governance; the access to information dimension achieved the highest average mean score (2.81 ± 0.76), followed by the ability to set goals and conflict resolution dimension (2.75 ± 0.53). On the other hand, the dimension of participation in the committee structure achieved the lowest average mean score (1.65 ± 0.37). The total score of career motivation was 69.82 ± 9.70 this reflects that nurses perceived a moderate level of career motivation. The career insight dimension achieved the highest average mean score (3.56 ± 0.34), while the career resilience dimension achieved the lowest average mean score (3.07 ± 0.49). Male nurses, less than 30 years old, had a bachelor’s degree in nursing sciences, and worked in the ICU had higher total scores of the IPNG and career motivation (P < 0.001). There was a positive correlation between the IPNG version 3.0 score and the Career Motivation Scale score (r = 0.239, P = 0.003). ConclusionsThe study’s findings can serve as a theoretical foundation for nursing managers to re-plan the management model and develop appropriate methods to give better career planning for nurses.

The Impact of the 5E Learning Model Improved with Concept Maps on Motivation

The examination of students’ motivation towards lessons is an important aspect of educational studies. The constructivist approach significantly impacts the improvement of students’ motivation. The present study aims to examine the use of the 5E learning model with concept maps to support students’ motivation and compare the 5E approach and the classical approach to teaching chemistry in terms of motivational dimensions. The main subject of this study is an assessment of students’ motivation using the 5E learning model, which promotes student-centred teaching. The study was conducted with 100 8th-grade lower secondary school students who attended a school in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) during the spring semester of the 2018/19 school year. The study was conducted with two randomly selected groups: experimental (EG) and control (CG). The lessons of the EG were taught using the 5E Learning Model Improved with Concept Maps, while lessons of the CG were conducted using the current, conventional teaching method. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) was applied as a data collection tool in the study. Descriptive statistics and Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) were used in data analysis. As a result, it was determined that the EG students’ motivation scores showed a significant difference from the CG students’ motivation scores. Furthermore, a significant difference was established between the EG and CG students’ intrinsic goal orientation and test anxiety post-test scores. Although the EG students’ averages for other sub-dimensions were higher than the CG students’ averages, no significant difference was found between the groups.

Combination of Digital and Conventional Intervention for Sexually Transmitted Infections Prevention among Female Sex Workers.

Female sex workers (FSWs) are at a high risk of contracting sexually transmitted infection (STI). Mobile health (m-health) is one intervention that is easily accessible to everyone online and offline, allowing two-way communication through the program. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of m-health on STI prevention behavior among FSW. The study was conducted using quasi-experimental design. It included the treatment group and the control group, each of which included fifty-four (54) FSWs selected by purposive sampling. The m-health intervention was conducted in the form of a short comedy movie on YouTube, combined with offline assertive communication training to improve skills in negotiating the use of condoms to the intervention group. Meanwhile, the control group received regular counseling from the local community health center. The Mann-Whitney test was used to compare the knowledge, attitudes, motivation, and behavior among the two study groups. Intervention for six months in the treatment group increased FSWs knowledge score by 4.0 (p=0.00), attitude by 3.9 (p=0.00), and motivation by 12 (p=0.00). The median knowledge, attitude, and motivation scores were 17.38 and 46, respectively. The model is effective onSTI-prevention behavior through motivational mediator variables with a p-value of 0.00. The condom consistency has the highest outer loading value in the STI-prevention behavior construct of 0.71 ≥ 0.4. A combination of digital and conventional health promotion can improve STI prevention behavior by raising knowledge, attitudes, motivation, and condom consistency behavior.

Evaluation of patient adherence with oral anticancer agents

ABSTRACT Background: The aim of the study was to measure the adherence to oral anticancer treatments in cancer patients using the Modified Morisky Scale (Modified Medication Adherence Scale 6) which has been shown to be valid and reliable in Turkish. Methods: This study was an observational, single-center study involving 300 cancer patients receiving various oral anticancer agents admitted to our outpatient clinic. Motivation and knowledge scores were calculated as per the Modified Medication Adherence Scale 6. Results: The motivation and knowledge levels of the population aged less than 65 years were found to be significantly higher than the geriatric population (≥65 years old) (P &lt; .003 and P&lt; .001, respectively). It was observed that the patients with higher education levels had significantly higher motivation and knowledge levels (P &lt; .0001 for both). There was no correlation between the motivation and knowledge levels of the patients with gender, marital status, living status, and stage of the disease (P &gt; .05). In addition, the duration of drug use &gt;12 months and the cyclical use of drugs were also found to be significantly associated with increased motivation and knowledge levels. Conclusion: Identifying adherence and related factors, informing patients in detail about the efficacy and toxicity of treatments are the simplest and most basic methods. Particular attention should be paid to patients aged &gt; 65 years, patients with a low level of education, and patients in the earlier stages of their treatments.

Motivation and student learning outcomes are still problems in Sekolah Dasar Nomor 6 Benoa, especially in the subjects of Hinduism and Moral Education. Improvements are still being carried out, which is by implementing a mind map learning strategy. The mind map learning strategy provides an opportunity for students to record the information they find during the learning process in a fun way. The purpose of this study was to analyze and explain (1) the effect of mind map learning strategies on the learning motivation of Hindu Religious Education and Characteristics of fifth-grade students at Sekolah Dasar Nomor 6 Benoa, (2) the effect of mind map learning strategies on learning outcomes of Hindu Religious Education and Characteristics of fifth-grade students at Sekolah Dasar Nomor 6 Benoa. This research was quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires and tests. Mancova was used to test hypotheses I and II. Based on the results of the analysis, the average score of students' learning motivation in the experimental class was greater than that of the control class (78.63 &gt; 69.33). In addition, the average score of student learning outcomes also shows that the average score in the experimental class is greater than the control class (78.90 &gt; 64.77). The results of the hypothesis testing show that: (1) there is a significant influence between mind map learning strategies on the learning motivation of Hindu Religious Education and Characteristics of fifth-grade students at Sekolah Dasar Nomor 6 Benoa, (2) there is a significant influence between mind map learning strategies on learning outcomes of Hindu Religious Education and Characteristics of fifth-grade students at Sekolah Dasar Nomor 6 Benoa.

Peningkatan Motivasi Belajar Matematika Siswa Menggunakan Model Teams Games Tournaments Pada SMP Parepare

Student involvement in the learning process is still minimal and the lack of student attention seems very boring. So that all these problems affect students' motivation to learn mathematics. This is caused by the teacher still carrying out the learning process which only uses the lecture method and students do not get the opportunity to be active in learning activities. Therefore, this study aims to increase students' motivation to learn mathematics using the Teams Games Tournaments model at SMP Negeri 12 Parepare.This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of two cycles and each cycle consists of 4 stages, namely planning, implementing action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this research were students of class VIII. C SMP Negeri 12 Parepare with a total of 24 students. The research data was obtained using research instruments in the form of observation sheets to determine the activities of teachers and students in using the TGT model and questionnaires to measure student motivation. The results of the analysis of students' motivation to learn mathematics from cycle I to cycle II experienced an increase. This is evidenced by the average score of students' motivation to learn mathematics in the first cycle of 66.83 in the medium category, while in the second cycle it increased to 87.33 in the high category.So that the TGT learning model can increase the motivation to learn mathematics in class VIII.C SMP Negeri 12 Parepare.

Merging Design Thinking into Translational Research in a Biomedical Engineering Laboratory (DT-TRBEL) Course

Laboratory classes offered in universities often fail to develop students’ ability to identify questions and encourage creativity to solve authentic problems. Lab exercises tend to provide clear step-by-step instructions, leaving little room for experimentation or creative thinking. Unfortunately, this approach can result in engineering students losing the skills they need to solve unprecedented challenges in their future professional careers. Biomedical engineering is particularly vulnerable to this training approach, given that students are taught to devise ideas to solve medical problems. To address this issue, the current study combined the curriculum designs of translational research and design thinking. This guided students in bringing biomaterials into the clinic and stimulated their interest in biomaterial development. The resulting course, called DT-TRBEL (Design-Thinking: Translational Research in Biomedical Engineering Laboratory Course), focuses on developing dental biomaterials, including material preparation, analysis, and cytotoxicity testing. The data was collected and evaluated through a survey of self-efficacy of creativity, student motivation, and learning scores of both the prerequisite course “Material Science” and DT-TRBEL. The study found that DT-TRBEL did not have a positive effect on overall motivation or the sense of self-efficacy regarding creativity. However, it did have a significant gender effect, benefiting female students more than male students. The discussion covers implementation and further directions for research.

Basic Psychological Needs Assessment of University Students in Bangladesh

The mental health of university students is a worldwide concern whose effects include, among others, inability to study, poor memory, reduced focus, attention, and fatigue. Mental health difficulties are also regarded as the leading cause of despair, depression, anxiety, and suicide among university students. This research aimed to assess the basic psychological needs of undergraduate students from a selected university in Bangladesh. This was a cross-sectional quantitative study conducted among 174 students who were selected randomly. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. The following dimensions were measures to assess the basic psychological needs: relatedness, competence, autonomy, positive emotion, and intrinsic learning motivation, and self-regulated learning. The overall psychological well-being of the students was found to be poor. Female students had significantly higher mean scores for competence and motivation (p &lt; 0.05). Year of study and faculty were significantly associated with relatedness, competence, autonomy, positive emotion, and intrinsic learning motivation (p &lt; 0.05). The current study emphasises the significance of perceived competence, autonomy, and self-regulated learning for the well-being of university students. The findings also suggest that relatedness may be relevant for intrinsic learning motivation.

Hand hygiene knowledge, attitude, barriers and improvement measures among healthcare workers in the Republic of Korea: a cross-sectional survey exploring interprofessional differences

BackgroundHand hygiene (HH) is a fundamental component of infection prevention and control in healthcare settings. This study aimed to identify knowledge, attitude, and barriers to HH according to occupational groups and strategies to increase the rate of HH compliance among healthcare workers (HCWs).MethodsThis cross-sectional survey was conducted in July 2018 at four university-affiliated hospitals. The survey comprised seven parts with 49 items, including self-reported HH compliance, knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, barriers to HH, and improvement strategies.ResultsA total of 1046 HCWs participated in the survey. The nursing group’s self-reported HH compliance rate was the highest, followed by other HCWs and physicians. The scores regarding knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours regarding HH were the highest in the nursing group. The nursing group also had higher internal and emotional motivation scores. Physicians and nurses found HH the most challenging in emergencies, while other HCWs considered skin problems caused by HH products the most significant barrier. Among 12 improvement measures, approximately 20% of the respondents ranked “diversify types of hand sanitisers,“ “install soap and paper towels in each hospital room,“ and “change perception through various HH campaigns” as the top three priorities. The physician group deemed the timely reminder of HH compliance as the second most critical improvement measure.ConclusionDifferences in knowledge, attitude and barriers hindering HH compliance and improvement plans were identified for each group. The findings suggest that targeted interventions tailored to the specific needs of different occupational groups may effectively improve HH compliance in healthcare settings.
