Development Of Student Entrepreneurship Skills Through The Independent Entrepreneurship Program At Gadjah Mada University 2023

Entrepreneurship plays an important role in driving economic growth and creating new jobs. Therefore, the development of entrepreneurial skills among students is very important. This study aims to analyze the development of student entrepreneurship skills through the Wirausaha Merdeka program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in 2023. The Wirausaha Merdeka program is a national program that aims to create resilient and financially independent young entrepreneurs. This research uses a qualitative approach method. Data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews with students participating in the Wirausaha Merdeka program at UGM. The results showed that this program has successfully developed various entrepreneurial skills of students, such as managerial, marketing, financial, leadership, and communication skills. Through a series of training, mentoring, and hands-on practice in building a business, students can apply the knowledge gained in real terms. The positive impact of this program can be seen from the increase in students' interest and motivation for entrepreneurship, as well as the emergence of new innovative business ideas. However, there are also challenges such as lack of initial capital and difficulties in reaching a wider market. This research contributes to providing insight into the role of the Wirausaha Merdeka program in developing students' entrepreneurial skills and provides recommendations for future program improvements.

Too Legit to Quit: Developing Cognitive Legitimacy by Reconceptualizing Failed Product Pitches

Establishing legitimacy is a key goal for new ventures. Entrepreneurs can establish legitimacy for their new ventures by attracting financial backing from investors and using those funds to build value into ventures. The professional communication-focused behavior of delivering an entrepreneurial pitch to potential resource providers represents one of the most important behaviors entrepreneurs engage in while developing a sustainable venture. Effective professional communication skills are essential not only to the development of entrepreneurs but also to those management and finance students destined to enter professional environments requiring interaction with entrepreneurs and start-up ventures. We present an assignment introducing management students to the concept of entrepreneurial pitch as a tool necessary for identifying and implementing legitimacy, framing, and entrepreneurial motivations. The pitching-failed-product-ideas assignment allows students to begin building skills necessary to communicate legitimacy of an organization to an audience of stakeholders and utilize entrepreneurial motivations of enthusiasm, preparedness, and commitment.

The Effect of Project Based Learning in Realizing Performing Arts on Entrepreneurial Motivation in Art Learning in Vocational School Students

The competence that must be possessed by Vocational School (VS) students is to be able to find business opportunities independently. Related to the subjects of art and culture, it is hoped that VS students have the motivation that can be carried out by the presence of performing arts in the form of performances that can be used as opportunities for entrepreneurship. Thus, VS students must have entrepreneurial motivation to have business opportunities in the arts and culture sector. One of the learning strategies that can be used is to use PBL. PBL can increase students' learning motivation and also facilitate students' problem-solving abilities. This study aimed to determine how the implementation of PBL in realizing performances and the influence of PBL on entrepreneurial motivation in art learning for VS students. The research method uses an experimental research method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Participants in this study were 37 students in one of the VS in the Indramayu district, and the study was conducted using a systematic sampling technique. The research instrument used an entrepreneurial motivation questionnaire. Data analysis techniques using statistical descriptions and Paired-Sample T-Test. This study concludes that PBL affects VS students' entrepreneurial motivation in art learning. PBL can motivate students to reflect on what they learn in an actual project and provide opportunities for students to think and be creative when realizing a project in the arts and culture. Students can understand that in the performance, various job descriptions can be used for business opportunities or jobs in arts and culture to conduct further research with more participants so that the results of this study can be more generalized.

Improving community vitality: spiritually informed entrepreneurial actions

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to depict how entrepreneurs improve community vitality in the economic, social and environmental dimensions. The paper joins the conversation of business spirituality as the study participants were Sri Lankan Buddhist entrepreneurs from the emerging venture context (i.e. from enterprises which are less than 1–10 years old). The aim of the paper is to introduce spiritually informed entrepreneurial actions, thus contributing to a better understanding of entrepreneurial impact on communities. Design/methodology/approach The paper involves a qualitative, interpretivist research design. Data was collected by conducting 28 semi-structured interviews with 18 Sri Lankan Buddhist entrepreneurs. Research participants were selected from diverse business sectors. The research applied inductive thematic analysis for structuring and interpreting data. Findings For Sri Lankan Buddhist entrepreneurs, improving community vitality is an essential altruistic goal of their business agenda. During the operations of their ventures, this altruistic goal is translated into altruistic actions that improve the economic, social and environmental vitalities of communities. Research findings highlight that in the case of Sri Lankan Buddhist entrepreneurs, altruistic actions are informed by compassion, which is a fundamental value in the Buddhist religion. Drawing on the findings, an integrated model of community vitality, which describes the role of compassion and the mechanisms of entrepreneurial actions in a Buddhist setting was developed inductively. Originality/value Studying entrepreneurial actions to focus on the motivations behind improving community vitality is a new research topic. The paper provides valuable knowledge on business spirituality regarding the compassionate motivations of Buddhist entrepreneurs. The integrated model of community vitality, which describes the mechanisms of entrepreneurial actions to improve community vitality in a Buddhist setting could be an essential compass not only to entrepreneurs but also research scholars in the field of business spirituality.

HOW TO IMPROVE THE ENTREPRENEURIAL MOTIVATION THROUGH ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION, ATTITUDES, AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS

Students who enter the world of entrepreneurship show extraordinary enthusiasm and initiative in developing their own businesses. They do not only focus on academic studies, but also actively seek opportunities and are ready to take risks to build independent businesses. The focus of this study is to understand how entrepreneurial motivation among students can be improved through entrepreneurial intentions, attitudes, and environmental factors. Data were collected through questionnaires, with convenience sampling techniques, and analyzed using Multiple Regression in the SPSS program. A total of 84 respondents were involved in this study. The results show that Entrepreneurial Intention and Attitude has a positive influence on entrepreneurial motivation. However, the results of other hypothesis tests revealed that Knowledge of Available Entrepreneurial Support and Perceived Barriers to Starting a Business did not affect entrepreneurial motivation. Overall, this study emphasizes the importance of strengthening entrepreneurial intentions as a key factor in encouraging entrepreneurial motivation among students.

Sustainable entrepreneurship: examining stimulus-organism-response to the nexus of environment, education and motivation

PurposeThe multidimensional decision-making framework of sustainable entrepreneurship affects student behavior in higher education institutions. Thus, the sustainable entrepreneurship environment has long attracted scholars and policymakers. Based on “Stimulus Organism Response (SOR),” this study examines serial mediation of sustainable entrepreneurial education and entrepreneurial motivation to link sustainable entrepreneurial environment and intentions. Further, it also explored the moderating role of a sustainable entrepreneurial environment.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative study was conducted with a sample of 408 students of Indian higher education institutes in NCR using a purposive sampling technique. Smart PLS-SEM was utilized for assessing the structural model, and a goodness-of-fit assessment was done with Amos 22.FindingsThe findings revealed the significant impact of a sustainable entrepreneurial environment on sustainable entrepreneurial education, motivation and sustainable entrepreneurial intentions. Furthermore, sustained entrepreneurial education has the most important influence on student motivation and considerable serial mediation. Also, the moderating role of a sustainable entrepreneurial environment was found to be significant for linkages of entrepreneurial motivation and sustainable entrepreneurial education with sustainable entrepreneurial intentions.Practical implicationsThe study will assist HEIs and scholars in understanding the role of sustainability in entrepreneurial courses to increase student intentions to start sustainable businesses.Social implicationsThis study helps policymakers and HEIs understand what motivates students to pursue sustainable entrepreneurship. This research might improve the well-being of education stakeholders and the community in achieving sustainable development goals.Originality/valueThe study is the first to analyze how sustainable entrepreneurial education and motivation serially mediate the link between a sustainable entrepreneurial environment and aspirations to establish a sustainable business and contribute to the existing literature of SOR from a new perspective.

The Effect of Technopreneur Education and Entrepreneurship Motivation on Entrepreneurial Interest with Self Efficacy as an Intervening Variable

This research aims to determine the influence of technopreneur education and entrepreneurial motivation on interest in entrepreneurship with self-efficacy as an intervening variable. This research uses a quantitative approach. The population in this study were 137 students from the Bina Karya Tebing Tinggi School of Economics who took part in technopreneur education. Sampling used purposive sampling. The results of this research show that technopreneur education has a positive effect on interest in entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial motivation has a positive effect on interest in entrepreneurship, Technopreneur education has a positive effect on self-efficacy, entrepreneurial motivation has a positive effect on self-efficacy, self-efficacy has a positive effect on interest in entrepreneurship, self-efficacy has a positive and significant effect in mediating the effect of technopreneur education on interest in entrepreneurship, Self-efficacy has a positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial motivation on entrepreneurial interest

Implicit motivations of entrepreneurial philanthropists: a historical organization studies analysis of Andrew Carnegie

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the implicit motivations of entrepreneurial philanthropists during different stages of their lives. Design/methodology/approach The authors follow a Historical Organization Studies approach by performing a psychobiographical analysis using McClelland’s Thematic Apperception Test on the autobiography of Andrew Carnegie across different stages of his life while considering the historical context. Findings The configuration of the implicit motivations of entrepreneurial philanthropists change with achievement motivation decreasing and power motivation increasing over time explaining the shift of focus from self to others. Originality/value While researchers have been theorizing and using interviews to uncover shifts in entrepreneurial motivations, this is the first paper to longitudinally uncover implicit motivations to explain why successful entrepreneurs give back later in life.

Jele Kabanja, Batuan Village, Sukawati District In an effort to increase interest in entrepreneurship among the younger generation, there are concerns and problems faced related to knowledge and motivation for entrepreneurship. The aim of the research is: To find out whether there is a simultaneous, partial, positive and significant influence between entrepreneurial knowledge and entrepreneurial motivation on teenagers' entrepreneurial interest in Banjar Jeleka, Batuan Village, Sukawati District. The number of samples determined using the saturated sample method was 87 people. Data analysis uses classical hypothesis testing, multiple linear regression analysis, analysis of the coefficient of determination, statistical analysis of the F test (F test), and statistical analysis of the t test (t test). Results show that entrepreneurial knowledge and entrepreneurial motivation simultaneously or partially have a significant positive influence on the entrepreneurial interest of the younger generation in Banjar Jeleka, Batuan Village, Sukawati District

With the technological advancements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, traditional manufacturing industries are transitioning to platform entrepreneurship utilizing AI and robotics technology. This shift contributes to national economic growth and job creation, aligning with the “Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation” initiative advocated by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in 2015, which drives the development of the platform economy. This study empirically analyzes the impact of entrepreneurial motivation, individual competencies, and entrepreneurial environmental factors on entrepreneurial behavior, with a mediating effect of business opportunity recognition, based on data collected from 515 online platform entrepreneurs in China’s four major municipalities. Using SPSS V. 24.0 and Process Macro 4.0 for analysis, the results indicate that economic and non-economic motivations, interpersonal competencies, digital utilization competencies, entrepreneurial education, financial status evaluation, and entrepreneurial support programs positively influence entrepreneurial behavior, with business opportunity recognition playing a crucial mediating role. Among these factors, financial status evaluation emerged as the most significant variable affecting entrepreneurial behavior. This finding demonstrates that an entrepreneur's ability to identify and evaluate business opportunities significantly impacts their entrepreneurial preparation and execution. Conversely, problem-solving competencies showed no direct effect on entrepreneurial behavior nor a mediating effect through business opportunity recognition. The traditional Chinese culture emphasizing guanxi (relationships) highlights the greater importance of interpersonal competencies over problem-solving or digital utilization competencies in business success. Therefore, to promote online platform entrepreneurship, it is essential to provide systematic financial education and continuous entrepreneurial support, enable networking and interpersonal skill‘s development programs, and offer practical support measures considering the impact of entrepreneurial environmental factors such as financial status evaluation on entrepreneurial behavior.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITY OF THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE AS A CONTINUOUS PROCESS OF DEVELOPMENT OF ENTREPRENEURIAL COMPETENCE IN THE HISTORICAL AND PEDAGOGICAL CONTEXT

In the scientific research the analysis of the economic activity of Ukrainians and their motivation for entrepreneurial activity in the historical and pedagogical contexts has been conducted. The authors have identified the factors influencing the formation of entrepreneurial initiative of modern Ukrainians, determined the reasons for their demotivation in engaging in entrepreneurship, highlighted the historical factor, which has a significant impact on the economic behavior, motivation, and self-motivation of Ukrainians. The article emphasizes the importance of incorporating an economic component into the training programs of future professional (vocational) education teachers, the necessity of developing their entrepreneurial competence, the need to enhance motivation and self-motivation for entrepreneurship.The study concludes that the entrepreneurial activity of the Ukrainians represents a continuous process of developing entrepreneurial competence. The authors propose considering the historical factor when designing national strategic programs, both during the current wartime period and in the post-war recovery phase for maintaining business activity within small and medium-sized enterprises. They substantiate the need to include an economic component and implement a motivation system in the training programs for future professional education teachers, who initially serve as recipients and later as providers of educational services. The necessity of integrating a motivation system and entrepreneurial practice into these programs has also been demonstrated for fostering the development of entrepreneurial competence, increasing motivation and self-motivation for entrepreneurship, enabling these future teachers to implement entrepreneurial competence in their subsequent work.

Religiosity and Entrepreneurial Intention: A Study of Strawberry Generation

This research will be conducted on the Strawberry Generation, better known as Generation Z, aimed at testing religiosity on entrepreneurial intentions mediated by self-efficacy, subjective norms, attitudes, and entrepreneurial motivation. This study uses a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling method, with a sample size of 207 respondents. The analysis tool that will be used is SEM AMOS 22. The influence of self-efficacy, subjective norms, and entrepreneurial attitudes as a mediation of the relationship between religiosity and the intensity of entrepreneurship in Generation Z is significant, meaning that someone religious makes Generation Z have the intention to entrepreneur because it has high self-efficacy, subjective norms and also high entrepreneurial attitudes. Entrepreneurial motivation apparently does not make a religious entrepreneur intend to have an entrepreneur for Generation Z.

Influencing Factors of Sustainable Rural Entrepreneurship: A Four-Dimensional Evaluation System Encompassing Entrepreneurs, Economy, Society, and Environment

The implementation of rural entrepreneurship emerges as a pivotal pathway for fostering rural economic growth. However, unsustainable entrepreneurial endeavors have posed notable ecological threats and environmental degradation. Drawing upon the triple bottom line framework, this research devised a comprehensive evaluation system for sustainable rural entrepreneurship, spanning four dimensions: entrepreneurs, economic, social, and environmental aspects. Employing the fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DANP) approach, we delineated the intricate causal relationships among influencing factors and identified key determinants along with their respective weights. Our findings underscore the prominence of economic dimensions in fostering sustainable rural entrepreneurship. Specifically, entrepreneurial motivation, type of entrepreneurship, financial backing, economic value, favorable policy frameworks, and a conducive business environment emerged as pivotal indicators. Notably, the type of entrepreneurship, financial support, economic value, and favorable policies emerged as propelling factors driving sustainable rural entrepreneurial progress. Conversely, entrepreneurial motivation and the business environment manifested as dependent factors within this causal nexus. This study offers valuable managerial implications for entrepreneurial teams and pertinent government agencies, enabling decision-makers to formulate evidence-based strategies aimed at realizing sustainable rural entrepreneurship.

Factors influencing persons with disabilities perception in entrepreneurship: The mediating effect of entrepreneurial motivation

Disability inclusion is important to ensure everybody has the same opportunities in society, which is critical in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are one of the marginalized communities and most of them are living in poverty. Disabilities encounter many challenges internally and externally due to their disabilities. They are struggling to keep their jobs due to their own self-confidence and social stigma and entrepreneurship is said to be the best option for PWDs to gain economic liberation. However, many PWDs still depend on government assistance and public donations instead of starting their own business. This study investigates the mediating effect of entrepreneurial motivation on the relationship between internal and external factors of PWDs’ perceptions of entrepreneurship in Malaysia. A quantitative approach to the survey was carried out. A sample of seventy-seven PWDs was gathered using face-to-face and online surveys through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using structural equation modelling. The results show that only internal factors influence PWDs’ entrepreneurial personal perception. Entrepreneurial motivation plays a crucial mediating role in the relationship between internal and external factors and entrepreneurial personal perception. The study is helpful for the relevant parties to assist PWDs in becoming financially independent through entrepreneurship by focusing more on their internal strengths. Proper training and coaching assist PWDs in being more resilient when facing adversity.

Fantasy of success, fear of failure and entrepreneurial choice: the moderating role of business vibrancy and failure experience

PurposeThis study investigates the impact of internal expectations, such as fantasy of success and fear of failure and external factors, such as social environment and past experiences, on entrepreneurial choice.Design/methodology/approachBased on achievement motivation and social cognitive theories, the authors construct hypotheses and use secondary data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) database and Economic Freedom Index report to empirically test the hypotheses. The authors also use propensity score matching to solve the endogeneity issue and test the robustness.FindingsInternal expectations (fantasy of success and fear of failure) on business outcomes inversely affect entrepreneurial choices, with a vibrant business environment amplifying and past failure experience mitigating these effects.Originality/valueDue to the economic recession, governments encourage small businesses. Thus, the complexity of individual entrepreneurial motivations and influencing factors necessitate deeper exploration. This study is one of the first research offering insights into entrepreneurial motivations from combined dimensions and providing theoretical support for strategies promoting public entrepreneurship.

Self-talk valence and motivational orientation for entrepreneurship: an exploratory study

ABSTRACT Self-talk is a well-researched component of self-efficacy that is frequently used as a motivational tool in sports. This study investigated how self-talk, as a component of entrepreneurship self-efficacy, relates to entrepreneurial motivation orientation. An online survey measured the self-talk valence of twenty-four entrepreneurs. Subsequently, interviews were conducted with the same entrepreneurs to collect narratives of their entrepreneurship start-up. The interview data were thematically coded and analysed. Links between the entrepreneurship motivation and the entrepreneurs’ net self-talk valence scores were plotted. The analysis suggests that those with positive self-talk typically had intrinsic motivation orientations, while those with negative scores had shared extrinsic motivational orientations. Contrary to the association of positive self-talk with motivation in sports, counterintuitively, negative self-talk’s link with motivation presents a novel finding. This finding is explained using the ‘push’ and ‘pull’ theories of entrepreneurial motivation. The study recommends deductive testing for this inductively explored relationship.

The priority of this research is that it is aimed at entrepreneurs or those who are planning to become entrepreneurs to find typology and motivation in developing a wider adventure tourism business in the Batur Kintamani area. Entrepreneurs must always have high motivation and a more positive self-concept in living their lives, even though the motivation and self-concept of each individual (entrepreneur) has different forms.
