Key performance indicators for monitoring of anemia management and iron status in children attending a pediatric dialysis unit:the experience of Ain Shams University.

Anemia in children on maintenance hemodialysis (HD) leads to poor quality of life. Our study aimed to assess and monitor anemia and iron status management in children on maintenance HD over 18 months using key performance indicators. Key performance indicators, formulated as the percentage of patients achieving the KDIGO (2012) guideline-recommended targets for hemoglobin (Hb) (11-12 g/dl), transferrin saturation (TSAT) (20-40%) and serum ferritin (200-500 ng/ml), were reported quarterly over the 18-month-period of this study. This study was carried out over an 18 month-period, from April 1st, 2020, till October 31st, 2021. A total of 78 patients (45 males and 33 females) were included; mean age 12.16 ± 3.3 years and HD duration range 3.0-140.88 months, median 16.51 months. The three most common primary causes of CKD were Congenital Anomalies of the Kidney and Urinary Tract (CAKUT) (29.5%), unknown cause (24.4%), and chronic glomerular diseases (20.5%). The quarterly reported percentages of patients achieving the recommended targets for Hb, TSAT, and serum ferritin ranges were 18.2-35.7%, 38.8-57.1%, and 11.9-26.6%, respectively. Although the mean Hb trend was nearing the KDIGO (2012) target, the key performance indicators showed that only a small percentage of our HD patients were achieving the targets for Hb, TSAT, & serum ferritin, thus alerting us to the need to revise our protocol for the management of anemia and iron status.

This study aims to understand its implications for the organization of the labor market. We conclude that, even with the use of Artificial Intelligence, it is essential to closely monitor performance indicators, as well as societal behavior.

A Bottom-Up Methodology for Identifying Key Performance Indicators for Sustainability Monitoring of Unit Manufacturing Processes

With growing environmental concerns and regulatory requirements, manufacturers are increasingly required to monitor and reduce the environmental impacts of their production processes. Despite increasing digitalization and data-collection capabilities, manufacturers are challenged in collecting the right data and framing process improvement targets. To address this challenge, this paper presents a bottom-up methodology based on the life cycle assessment for identifying performance indicators with the goal of monitoring and reducing the overall environmental impacts of a manufacturing process. More specifically, process performance indicators are defined as a set of controllable process parameters, and their suitability for sustainability monitoring is evaluated based on their sensitivity, measurability, actionability, reliability, timeliness, and human-centricity with respect to a chosen environmental impact category. The bottom-up formulation of process performance indicators is demonstrated through a real-world case study on an infeed centerless grinding process in a large manufacturing company. Results from the case study show that the process performance indicators with regards to climate change impacts included (i) reduction in grinding time, (ii) reduction in total grinding power, (iii) reduction in sparkout time, and (iv) increase in batch size.

Airlines are required to not only adapt to shifting market conditions and technological improvements, but also to rethink and construct their own corporate culture in order to stay up with the current stage of growth in the aviation industry, which is facing significant upheavals. This is vital in order for airlines to be able to keep up with the current stage of development. In addition to the pandemics-specific challenges that were brought on by COVID-19, and the war in Ukraine, the concurrent socioeconomic crisis brought about an additional focus that was of utmost significance. In order to determine the influence that the pandemic of the coronavirus disease and the war have had on the management of the corporate culture of airlines, the goal of this essay is to investigate the impact. The aim of this paper is to analyze the ways in which corporate culture influences many aspects of airline operations. These aspects include the internal interaction and motivation of employees, as well as the outward image and communications with consumers. Tools for managing airline corporate culture during a crisis include communication platforms, psychological support programs, skills training, leadership development initiatives, and airline employee opinion and feedback tools. These tools help airlines adapt to change during a crisis, maintain a healthy corporate culture, and support their employees. Setting clear goals and regular monitoring of performance indicators are important for timely adaptation of corporate culture management strategies. It is appropriate to use the KPI system of airlines for the development of corporate culture in the conditions of modern challenges. The KPI system is offered as follows: KPI 1: Level of employee engagement; KPI 2: Reducing the level of stress among employees; KPI 3: Level of training and development of employees; KPI 4: Improvement of leadership skills in management; KPI 5: Improvement of corporate culture based on feedback. There is a possibility that the study will be useful to academic scholars, analysts, and businesses. Potential route for further exploration, regarding the development of corporate culture in the face of both exogenous and endogenous unpredictability, is the digitization of the key performance indicator system that is adopted by airlines.

The urban regeneration project started under the Park Geun-hye administration and was promoted more heavily as a New Deal project under the Moon Jae-in administration. However, as the urban regeneration project progressed, problems arose that residents could not feel due to poor implementation performance and low execution ability. Accordingly, in this study, in order to establish and achieve the goals of the urban regeneration revitalization plan, a management system and performance indicators for monitoring, evaluation, and feedback are presented to systematically and comprehensively manage everything from plan establishment to performance and effect derivation, and a resident satisfaction survey to measure performance. We conducted an investigation. In order to accurately measure performance, the ‘Comprehensive Performance Index’ presented by the central government was used as a common indicator, and the ‘Local Government Performance Index’ was comprehensively analyzed and used as an auxiliary indicator. In this study, research was conducted targeting the ‘Jeonju Station Area Urban Regeneration Area’, which is currently under construction, to select indicators for performance measurement, and practical data was presented in relation to the research method.

Monitoring and forecasting usability indicators: A business intelligence approach for leveraging user-centered evaluation data

Monitoring performance indicators has become a main concern for most organizations today. While much attention has been paid to developing economic, bioinformatics, health, and social media dashboards, little or no attention has been devoted to monitoring and forecasting usability indicators. This can be of interest for analyzing the degree of perceived satisfaction and usability of interactive software products designed or just developed, being also useful as general strategic indicators in human-centered organizations. This paper presents an approach including main measures, Key Performance Indicators, trends, and forecasts to deal with usability information over time and produce new knowledge based on historical data. Also, an instance has been implemented, including data obtained from real software evaluations. Target users have evaluated the approach to validate its suitability, obtaining successful usability results that denote the adequacy of the approach presented.

Effect of Beetroot Juice Supplementation on Muscle Soreness and Performance Recovery after Exercise-Induced Muscle Damage in Female Volleyball Players.

Beetroot juice (BRJ) contains various bioactive compounds suggested to be effective in improving athlete recovery. However, the number of studies evaluating the effects of BRJ on recovery and muscle soreness (MS) indicators in female athletes is limited. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effects of BRJ consumption on the performance recovery indicators and MS after exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) in female volleyball players. Twelve young female volleyball players were evaluated in this study. We utilized a randomized, cross-over, and double-blind design during two phases with a 30-day interval (wash-out). During each phase, EIMD was performed first, followed by BRJ or placebo (PLA) supplementation for two days (eight servings of 50 mL). Recovery monitoring of performance indicators and MS was performed after EIMD. The results of wall-sit, V sit and reach (VSFT), vertical jump height (VJH), pressure pain threshold (PPT), and thigh swelling (Sw-T) tests were recorded 48 h after EIMD. Also, the Perceived Muscle Soreness was recorded using the visual analog scale (VAS) 12 (MS-12 h), 24 (MS-24 h), and 48 (MS-48 h) hours after EIMD. The data were analyzed using two-way repeated measures of ANOVA at p < 0.05. Compared to PLA, BRJ supplementation improves wall-sit performance after EIMD (p < 0.05), while reducing Sw-T and perceived muscle soreness (p < 0.05). However, no significant difference was observed between PLA and BRJ in VJH and VSFT performance after EIMD (p > 0.05). Our findings indicate that the consumption of BRJ in female volleyball players can be useful for improving some recovery indicators, such as muscle endurance, perceived muscle soreness, and tissue edema, after EIMD.

Mapping the performance indices of the entrepreneurial ecosystem

Sustainable entrepreneurship involves sustainable tools and methods. In order to successfully act on the three dimensions of sustainability – economic, ecological and social – entrepreneurs will assess their own potential and design strategic directions for companies. These processes can be streamlined by mapping the performance indices of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, which will help to understand the structure and dynamics of the business environment and to make informed decisions to improve it. By evaluating and monitoring performance indicators, weaknesses can be identified and effective strategies can be developed to stimulate innovation, economic growth and job creation. The assessed indices will include all aspects of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. This article, which is an extension of the study on the indices of sustainability of the business ecosystem, provides a summary of these indices and their categorization according to the enterprise environment components.

Various production planning models for manufacturing execution systems

Presently, many enterprises are automating all processes in their production, and the metallurgical industry is no exception. There are many software products for industrial automation on the market today. Such products allow bringing certain processes to a single management process, displaying all processes and automatically monitoring performance indicators, thereby assessing the effectiveness of the models implemented in the enterprise and the operation of the entire enterprise in general. The purpose of this study is to consider which production planning models are currently used for manufacturing execution system (MES) and highlight their features, specifically when implemented at metallurgical enterprises. The study employed the following methods: analysis, synthesis, comparison, graphical presentation of data. The information basis of this paper included the studies of Russian, European, American, Asian specialists investigating the implementation of an integrated management system (MES) in the metallurgical industry. The results of this study allowed highlighting the features of existing production planning models for manufacturing execution systems (MES) in the metallurgical industry. This study is of practical importance because it allows highlighting the major features of various production planning models for manufacturing execution systems (MES) in the metallurgical industry and based on a comparative analysis, choosing the best one to implement at the enterprise. The results of a comparative analysis of production planning models for manufacturing execution systems (MES) in the metallurgical industry can also lead to the fact that an enterprise may abandon one model that is already operating in the enterprise and switch to a new, more progressive model that meets all the requirements and development trends market in the steel industry

Sustained adherence to a delirium guideline five years after implementation in an intensive care setting: A retrospective cohort study

ObjectiveTo explore the level of sustained adherence to a delirium guideline in a university intensive care unit setting five years after cessation of a multifaceted implementation program conducted between April 2012 and February 2015. Research methodology/designA quantitative retrospective cohort study was conducted using the medical records of all eligible patients admitted to the intensive care unit from November 2019 to February 2020. SettingFour adult intensive care units in a university hospital. Main outcome measuresPrimary outcome is adherence to seven performance indicators indicated in the guideline being: light sedation days, mobilisation, physical therapy, analgesics use, delirium and sedation screening and avoiding benzodiazepines. Clinical patient outcomes such as Intensive care unit stay and prevalence of delirium were also collected. Data were compared with the results of the original implementation study’s using descriptive statistics and Kruskal-wallis and Chi-square tests. ResultsData of 236 patients were included. The most notable decrease in adherence concerned ‘number of light sedation days’ (−28 %). Adherence to three indicators had increased: ‘number of days receiving out-of-bed mobilisation’ (+11 %); ‘number of days receiving physical therapy’ (+9%); and ‘use of analgesics’ (+12 %). Comparison of clinical outcomes showed an increased intensive care unit length-of-stay from 3 to 5 days (P < 0.001). Prevalence of delirium increased over five years from 41 % to 43 % of patients while delirium duration decreased from a median of 3 days to a median of 2 days. ConclusionFive years after ceasing of implementation efforts regarding the delirium guideline, partial sustainability has been achieved. The decrease in adherence to ‘number of light sedation days’ could have contributed to the increased length-of-stay on the intensive care unit. Implications for clinical practiceAfter implementation, routine monitoring of performance indicators is required to evaluate the level of sustainment. Further, revisiting reasons for decrease in guideline adherence when contextual changes occur. Reassessment of the perceived barriers and facilitators can guide adaptations to sustain, or even improve, adherence.

Monitoring performance indicators of mechanized agricultural operations through a systemic method

Key performance indicators (KPI) are essential to decision-making in an organization, but the approach to analysis and composition used in the formulation of the KPIs can lead to errors. Analysis based only on averages does not allow for discriminating between variations that are natural to the process or special cases which require investigation. The use of control charts can identify this differentiation. However, when several charts are presented encompassing different measurement units and scales, systemic interpretation can be impaired. To assist in this interpretation, this research study aimed at proposing a method to facilitate the analysis of control charts when multiple indicators are employed in the monitoring of agricultural operations. Based on the data obtained over 26 weeks from a mechanized sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) harvesting front, six indicators were defined and analyzed through individual control charts and, systemically, through a standardized group control chart. Results show that the points identified as being outside the control zone (special causes of variation) according to the standardized group control chart were the same as those identified by the six individual charts, which demonstrates the potential of this method to summarize the information with no loss of quality of analysis.

Data-driven investment and performance management in the livestock sector.

Evidence-based decision-making is now axiomatic in many sectors and has become increasingly important in prioritising development in low- and middle-income countries. In the livestock development sector, there has been a lack of data on health and production required to establish an evidence base. Thus, much strategic and policy decision-making has been based on the more subjective grounds of opinion, expert or otherwise. However, there is now a trend towards a more data-driven approach for such decisions. The Centre for Supporting Evidence-Based Interventions in Livestock was established in Edinburgh by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2016, to collate and publish livestock health and production data, lead a community of practice to harmonise livestock-data-related methodologies, and develop and monitor performance indicators for livestock investments.

Program kolorektálního screeningu v České republice – hodnocení výkonnosti center za rok 2021

Summary: Background: Compared to other European countries, the Czech Republic has long been one of the countries with high rates of incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer. The screening program was implemented in 2000 and has become an essential part of prevention policy in the Czech Republic. Continuous monitoring of the entire screening process is necessary to ensure high quality and the resulting success of the program. The aim of the paper is to present the current results of the National Colorectal Cancer Screening Program using selected indicators in accordance with established recommendations. Material and Methods: The analysis was performed on data on preventive colonoscopies performed in Centers for screening colonoscopy (Centers) in 2021, with selected performance indicators being evaluated (number of preventive colonoscopies, adequate bowel preparation, caecal intubation rate and adenoma detection rate). The resulting performance indicators were evaluated by the published recommendations of the Czech Gastroenterological Society to point to the results of the program as a whole, not to assess individual Centers. Results: The majority (94.7%) of the Centers achieved the basic performance indicator (number of preventive colonoscopies). The performance indicator of adequate bowel preparation was met by 83.6% of Centers (the average proportion of colonoscopies with adequate bowel preparation in the Czech Republic is 93.8%). The optimal proportion of caecal intubation (90.0%) was reached by 87.2% of Centers in 2021. Only 16 Centers (8.5%) did not meet the adenoma detection rate indicator, but a high variability was observed across the Centers (11.6% to 68.2%) – a similar situation was observed in evaluation by gender and indication. A relatively low adenoma detection rate in follow-up colonoscopies after positive FOBT could be related to high and variable FOBT, which may indicate redundant colonoscopies and overburden the Centers. Conclusion: Some Centers do not reach the reference values for performance indicators according to reference values. It is necessary to continue monitoring performance indicators at the level of individual Centers to improve the quality of the entire program. Neural Component Analysis for Key Performance Indicator Monitoring

The partial least squares (PLS) algorithm is a commonly used key performance indicator (KPI)-related performance monitoring method. To address nonlinear features in the process, this paper proposes neural component analysis (NCA)-PLS, which combines PLS with NCA. (NCA)-PLS realizes all the principles of PLS by introducing a new loss function and a new principal component selection mechanism to NCA. Then, the gradient descent formulas for network training are rederived. NCA-PLS can extract components with large correlations with KPI variables and adopt them for data reconstruction. Simulation tests using a mathematical model and the Tennessee Eastman process show that NCA-PLS can successfully handle nonlinear relationships in process data and that it performs much better than PLS, KPLS, and NCA.

Carbon Sequestration and Habitat Provisioning through Building-Integrated Vegetation: A Global Survey of Experts

Carbon sequestration (CS) and habitat provisioning (HP) through building-integrated vegetation are interlinked approaches that could potentially reduce climate change and biodiversity loss attributed to the built environment. However, a practical approach is required to integrate CS and HP into building design. A two-stage approach was undertaken in this research; firstly, preparing a conceptual framework from an extensive literature review and, secondly, gauging the perspective of building industry experts on that framework through a survey. The survey was designed to determine expert opinion related to establishing the data gathering approaches, progressing to identifying strategies and methods to quantify them, and finally, monitoring performance indicators for achieving CS and HP goals. The results of descriptive analyses performed after data collection indicate a notable difference in opinions between built environment professionals (group A) and environmental scientists and researchers (group B). The findings indicate that respondents emphasized maintaining vegetation in order to maximize CS rates and biodiversity levels. Moreover, spatial ecology considerations, including landscape-level parameters (vegetative area coverage, habitat availability, quality, and connectivity) and species-specific parameters (species selection based on their CS rates and habitat requirements for keystone species), must be analyzed while designing buildings for vegetation-based CS and HP.

A research on the easy-to-use energy efficiency performance indicators for energy audit and energy monitoring of industrial compressed air systems

Compressed air systems have a high energy transfer capacity. They are widely used in the manufacturing industry due to being clean, dependable, and simple-to-use. On the other hand, these systems are among the most significant energy consumers in the manufacturing sector because they are inefficient with high electricity usage and high CO2 emissions. As a result, all kinds of the energy efficiency enhancements in these systems promote cleaner production by lowering total energy consumption and CO2 emissions in factories. In this paper, the energy-saving potential and carbon emissions of Compressed Air Systems are investigated using data from in-situ energy audits. A simple set of equations is proposed to calculate the mass flow rate of air leakage. The sound intensity (dB) obtained from ultrasonic flow measurements were used as the input of the equation set. Furthermore, two new Energy Performance Indicators have been proposed to guide energy audit evaluation and continuous monitoring of the energy efficiency of Compressed Air Systems in industrial facilities. The new evaluation criteria “Specific Compressed Air Savings” and “Specific Leakage Savings” provide a comparison tool to help decision-makers with their compressed air system investment decisions. Using the “Specific Compressed Air Savings” and “Specific Leak Savings” parameters, the analysis method is demonstrated for an example industrial plant. The facility's specific compressed air and leakage savings are calculated as 0.0067 TOE/ton and 0.0035 TOE/ton, respectively.

KPIs for Sustainable Development: The Greek Experience

After the Olympic Games of 2004, Greece was at the center of dramatic situations and faced serious economic and social problems, especially at the beginning of the 2010s. Initially, the economic and social crisis along with the memorandums and then the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic affected the development of the Greek economy at both macro and micro levels. In recent years, many efforts have been made for the overall recovery and growth of the Greek economy. Seven sub-categories have been formulated by the Greek Ministry of Development and Investment, including multiple modules of modules and actions for the development of the economy. One of these sub-categories refers to sustainable development. Public policies such as the Sustainable Development Goals, Climate Change, Adaptation Planning and others are regarded as key formative actions for any country, let alone Greece. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are applied to monitor policies relating to sustainable development. These targets are the monitoring and key performance indicators of the development strategy for public policies, whose targets monitor and attest to the development strategy course of public policies. The aim of this article is to present, through literature review, the KPIs that are applied domestically and show how they will contribute to the dynamic growth of the Greek economy. The results have turned out to be significantly important and could contribute to the further integration of specialized KPIs in the country's development via the use and exploitation of the natural environment. The development of such secondary KPIs could prove to be a challenge for the environment and climate change disciplines. The topic is crucial and the context of Critical Success Factors (CSF) and KPIs can be used by public and private sector employees, the academic community, and every researcher/theorist working on the specific topic.

Inter-Group Perceptions of Key Performance Indicators for Monitoring and Evaluating Scenic Viewpoints

This study examines the perceptions of stakeholders in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of scenic viewpoints. We statistically compare the perceptions of two different visitor groups (residents of the Niagara region and tourists) regarding key performance indicators (KPIs) for M&E at 12 different viewpoint sites in Niagara Parks. Visitor perceptions were also compared to environmental managers’ perceptions of the viewpoint sites. Results demonstrate that visitor groups do not differ in their overall perceptions of KPIs for viewpoints. Additionally, environmental managers and overall visitor groups significantly differ in their perceptions of KPIs for viewpoints. These results deepen the understanding of stakeholder perceptions of KPIs for environmental management of viewpoints, specifically the influential preferences and factors. They also highlight the importance to managers of considering diverse knowledge and values in decision-making, and ultimately enhancing efforts to manage scenic viewpoints.

Stakeholders’ Role in the Adoption of Green Practices among Star Rated Hotels along Coastal Kenya: Partnerships and Collaborations

The hospitality and tourism industry is one of the key economic sectors expected to take a leadership role in transforming the emerging green economy. Climate change impacts on ecological sustainability alongside considerable growth in the industry have raised critical concerns through increased emission of greenhouse gases, water, and energy consumption, and vast volumes of food waste. A rapid move from carbon and material-intensive ways of delivering visitor experiences with an emphasis on stakeholder involvement and ecosystem wellbeing makes tourism a leader in transforming the emerging green economy. This paper aims to determine the role of stakeholder engagement in the adoption of green practices by star-rated hotels along the Kenyan Coast. A cross-sectional survey design was applied in this study. Sample hotels for the study were identified using stratified random selection. Stratification of management tiers for selecting general managers and heads of sections was applied. Data from heads of sections were obtained using a semi-structured questionnaire while semi-structured interview schedule was used for general managers. Analysis of data included descriptive statistics in determining the frequencies, means, standard deviations, and percentages for each survey item. One sample t-test was used to test the statistical significance of Likert scale responses. Hypothesis testing was conducted using a multiple linear regression model. Qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicated that stakeholders’ engagement contributes significantly to the adoption of green practices (p=≤0.000≤0.05). Stakeholder’ engagement was also revealed as a key predictor of adoption of green practices in star rated hotels (β= .760, P - value&lt;0.05). The study concluded that stakeholders’ engagement provide new ideas, define performance indicators for monitoring, auditing, comparison, and reporting green practices adopted by the star-rated hotels. The study recommended that hotel managers, hotel associations, and government agencies need to enhance green practices by strengthening the capacity of existing institutions to partner and collaborate with key stakeholders, mobilize green climate funds, develop and review curricula, training resources, and short courses in hospitality, tourism, and environmental studies.
