CURRENT PROBLEMS OF AGRICULTURE SECTOR DEVELOPMENT IN MONGOLIA AND WAYS OF THEIR SOLUTION

This article presents strategic goals of sustainable development of agriculture sector in Mongolia. It outlines relevance of application and implementation of advanced technologies in agricultural production, including smart farming, geo information systems and satellite navigation. In recent years, the researchers of Mongolian University of Life Sciences are actively working on developing climate adaptation technologies with regard to agricultural crops, as well as application of the latest achievements of biotechnology and genetic engineering to breeding of highly productive livestock. The first results have already been achieved. The urgent and current objectives of agriculture sector development of Mongolia involve application of certain elements of the Fourth industrial revolution to livestock and plant production sector of Mongolia, and implementation of a well-thought policy and measures on introduction of new technologies aimed at increasing production of environmentally-friendly organic product and its export, as well as protection and conservation of the environment.

The purpose of this study was to reveal the preferences in ambiguity resolution of adjunct attachments in Mongolian (referred to as high vs. low attachment). The off-line questionnaire technique in Mongolian native speakers was used to collect the material. The sample comprises data from 193 monolingual Mongolian schoolchildren and university students aged from 16 to 24 years. The typical structure of Mongolian sentences with two potential attachment sites for the adjunct is as shown by the example: Гэмт хэрэгтэн тагтан дээр байсан жүжигчнийNP2 үйлчлэгч-бусгуйгNP1 буудсан (The criminal shot the maidNP1 of the actressNP2 standing on the balcony). Statistical results of responses’ analysis show that young Mongolian native speakers tend to prefer high attachment strategy (59% of total number of cases). This percentage of NP1-preference choices shows a high level of significance of the non-random strategy when Mongolian native speakers have to resolve ambiguity of high attachment of adjunct (Z = 6.77, p <0.001). For the Mongolian language, this off-line study is the first to establish such a psycholinguistic preference. Preliminarily, it is possible to claim that Mongolian may be included in the group of languages with high attachment preference (along with Japanese, Korean, Italian, Greek, German, and Russian).

We are introduced to innovate and improve outcomes about curriculum of Introduction to Cultural Studies. Other Mongolian Universities need to change the scientific study of Introduction to Cultural studies program in the current conditions of globalization is just one of problems. We assume articles introduced gateway postmodernist, de constractionist theories and approaches to innovate a curriculum to publish textbook conform to the needs and handbook. And we viewed with the same update gateway that inside the many countries in US, in Europe, Asia and Africa, as a definition of Cultural studies.

IGCP 596, Mid-Paleozoic conodonts & corals and the Mongolian Research Team in Europe

A new subproject of IGCP 596 (Climate change and biodiversity patterns in the Mid-Paleozoic) started in 2015. The Goal of the project is to increase the record of rugose coral biodiversity and to provide a high-resolution biostratigraphy especially of Devonian fossil-rich deposits in western Mongolia. A big step was achieved with the Conodont Workshop held in Graz, Austria (25.09-01.10.2015) exclusively for teaching conodont extraction techniques to colleagues from the Paleontological Center of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS) and the School of Geology and Petroleum Engineering of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST). With the knowledge provided during the workshop, in both microfossil laboratories at the MAS and at the MUST units for conodont extraction were established.

MONGOLIAN STUDENTS' DIGITAL LITERACY PRACTICES: THE INTERFACE BETWEEN ENGLISH AND THE INTERNET

ABSTRACT Over the last few decades, Mongolia has experienced social, economic, technological and political changes. Those changes have contributed to the growing cultural status of English mediated in particular through the digital literacy practices of young Mongolians. However, much of the digital and new media research takes place in predominantly Anglo-American contexts (RINSLOO & ROWSELL, 2012) and not much is known about what shapes Mongolian university students' use of digital technologies. The research reported on here aims to fill this gap. Drawing on perspectives offered by the field of Literacy Studies, which analyses literacy practices within the social and cultural contexts in which they occur, and employing a mixed methods approach, the research examines how Mongolian university students majoring in English used digital technologies, especially the internet, in their everyday lives. Data were generated through a survey of 98 students and through observations of and interviews with six case study participants who came from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. The findings indicate that most students' digital literacy practices were directed towards improving their English. They used digital technologies strategically by negotiating the issues of cost and time, and exercised agency in personalising the technologies to support their English learning and eventually to improve their social positions. However, the findings also suggest that the participants' engagement with digital technologies was shaped by contextual and structural factors which included family background, personal resources such as English proficiency, digital literacies and aspirations. The research considers how the findings may inform improvements to educational practices around the teaching and learning of English and digital literacies in Mongolian universities.

The article discusses the history of the Xiongnu monuments investigation in Mongolia, which can be conveniently divided into several stages. The first stage of initial excavations falls on the 20- 30’s of the XX c. The next stage begins in 50’s and lasts till the late 80’s. During this time the first international expeditions take place. In 1961 begins to work a Mongolian-Hungarian expedition and in 1970 a Mongolian-Soviet historical-cultural expedition with members of the Institute of History of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences. During the third stage there is a rapid growth of international expeditions. A Mongolian-French, Mongolian-American, Mongolian-Korean and Mongolian-Belgian expeditions work from the mid-90’s till the early 2000’s. From 2006 there work mostly expeditions of Mongolian Universities, Academic Centres, the Institute of history and archeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, Museums and several Mongolian- Russian international expeditions. On the whole, within the territory of the Western, Central, Northern and Eastern parts Mongolia about 70 burial complexes were found. About 5000 tumuli and burials were excavated. 400 of them appeared to be burials of a common people, while 22 of tumulus burials belong to the princes’ household.

Spatial distribution of trees on light taiga plots before selective thinning

Since 2009 the School of Agroecology and Business, Institute of Plant and Agricultural Sciences of the Mongolian University of Life Sciences in Darkhan has established research plots in two research areas in the Selenge aimag. The establishment was conducted in close cooperation with development organisations (FAO, GIZ) and the University of Goettingen. The purpose of the research initiative is to combine capacity development and monitoring of forest structure in the mountain forest steppe zone and taiga zone. Here we report results on the horizontal spatial structure of forest stands. We analysed the spatial distribution of trees on birch and larch plots of the research area «Altansumber» before a selective thinning took place on some plots in 2009. The research area is situated in the mountain forest steppe zone. The forests belong to the light taiga. The selected stands approach a chronosequence. The results showed that the tree distributions were mainly irregular («clumped»).Random spatial tree distribution occurred especially in the medium-aged birch stand. We found no indication of regular tree distributions in any of the plots. We assume that the disturbance regime and successional processes are the driving factors leading to the specific tree distribution pattern on the plots. Due to different regeneration strategies and life span of the dominating species the birch stands and the larch stands seem to differ slightly concerning the chronological occurrence of clumped and random spatial tree distribution. We finally conclude that a better control of the disturbance regime would not only support an undisturbed forest succession to riper forest stands but also result in less forest stands with irregular spatial distribution. The Impact of Globalization: A Case of Mongolian Universities

The challenges of globalization have hit Mongolia at a time when the country started reforming the entire education system. During the 1990s, the Mongolian higher education sector was fully shaped in terms of ownership, governance, funding, and academic curriculum. By 2004, there were 183 higher education institutions, of which 47 were public, 129 private, and 7 foreign. About 82 percent of private and 61 percent of public institutions were not accredited. The government of Mongolia found higher education the most promising sector for cost sharing and shifted a part of its fiscal burden to institutions and recipients of services (i.e., students). Direct funding of universities and colleges ceased in 2003. Currently, 95 percent of the institutional budget relies on the tuition fees of students. About 60 percent of students obtain loans and grants on the basis of merit and needs. In this changing environment, higher education institutions have been challenged to embrace global forces and compete for resources, particularly for research funding, qualified faculty, and students.

Drug susceptibility and homologous analysis on Corynebacterium striatum strains isolated from inpatients

To explore the molecular epidemiological features and in vitro susceptibility profile of Corynebacterium striatum strains isolated from different sites of inpatients, and further provide new data and idea for clinicians to better get knowledge of the clinical significance of Corynebacterium striatum. Fourty-five strains of Corynebacterium striatum isolated from different sites of inpatients from November, 2013 to March, 2014 in Affiliated hospital of Inner Mongolian medical university, and microdilution method was employed to do in vitro antibiotics susceptibility test. Saline-cotton swab method was used to sample the surrounding environmental surfaces for Corynebacterium striatum carrying patients, and suspected colonies were further identified and in vitro drug susceptibility test were performed. Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis(PFGE) method was used to do molecular typing for 41 isolates of Corynebacterium striatum. Fourty-five isolates of Corynebacterium striatum strains were mainly isolated from neurosurgical unit(21 isolates), respiratory unit(8 isolates) and intensive care unit(8 isolates), 39 isolates of which were isolated from lower respiratory tract. The 45 isolates presented an aggregate distribution in the following 3 months, which were December 2013, January 2014 and February 2014.In vitro antibiotics susceptibility test showed that MIC90 for penecillin, erythromycin, tetracycline, ciprofloxacin and clindamycin were 64 µg/ml or higher and the MIC90 for gentamicin, vancomycin and rifampicin were all 0.5 µg/ml. Only one isolate was sensitive to all of the antibiotics tested, except clindamycin. PFGE typing results showed that 41 isolates were divided into 7 genotypes, among which 0002 type and 0006 type were the predominant types and accounted for 63% (26/41) and 22% (9/41), respectively. The isolates from different patients showed high homology, which were isolated from the same unit during the same periods.For surrounding surfaces sampling, Corynebacterium striatum isolating rate was 40% (8/20). The isolates from environmental surfaces and those from the corresponding patients showed identical drug susceptibility profiles. Corynebacterium striatum isolated from inpatients show multi-drug resistant profile, and different isolates from different patients are highly homologous. Specific units, such as neurosurgery unit, respiratory unit and intensive care unit, should reevaluate the clinical significance of Corynebacterium striatum and its relationship with clinical treatment measures supplemented.

Design and Analysis of a POS Tag Multilingual Dictionary for Mongolian

In this paper, we report a multilingual parallel electronic dictionary, named MPEDM. The MPEDM dictionary covers the languages in Chinese and Mongolian, including TM (traditional Mongolian), TODO (Mongolian TODO) used in China, and NM (New Mongolian Cyrillic character) used in Mongolia. The average coverage evaluation of MPEDM among different systems of Mongolian was conducted by applying the Cosine similarity measure.To build MPEDM, 80 thousands of NM words were selected by linguists. Then, a part-of-speech (POS) and Chinese word pairs were added to MPEDM by manually referring to a standard version from Inner Mongolian University and supported by NSFC of China. After that, the traditional and TODO Mongolian words were paralleled automatically based on parsing process of the Mongolian multilingual parallel corpus. It is believed that the MPEDM dictionary can be applied in many tasks, such as multilingual word searching and interpreting a word in its reading and grammatical form on line.The experimental results demonstrate that the average coverage of different texts achieves 85.2%. In addition, the relativity evaluations of MPEDM between different systems show that the similarity of TM and TODO and TODO and NM pairs are 0.72 and 0.86, respectively. Finally the best F-score of 0.67 is attained when converting Mongolian NM texts to TODO ones.

University English Teachers’ Identity in Minority Area: A Case Study of a Trilingual Teacher in China

Teacher identity is a very hot topic attracting lots of researchers’ attention in teaching and teacher development since it treats teachers as whole persons in and across social and contexts who continually reconstruct their views of themselves in relation to others, workplace characteristics, professional purposes, and cultures of teaching. As one aspect of teacher identity, minority teachers’ identity has begun to gain great interest in this area. The present study investigates Mongolian English university teachers’ identity formation in minority area. The study addressed the following three research questions: What is the identity of Mongolian English teachers at university? How do Mongolian English teachers at university perceive their identity? What are the factors influencing their identity formation? The findings suggest that Mongolian English teacher’s identity is complex and multifaceted, which is influenced by various factors, among which the subject’s learning experiences as being a third language learner play very crucial role in constructing her identity.

An Investigation of Teacher and Learner Beliefs About English Teaching and Learning for Mongolian University Student

It has been widely agreed that the approaches teachers apply to language teaching, the attitudes students have, their motivation and target language proficiency are directly influenced or determined by their beliefs about language teaching and language learning respectively. This paper reports on a study which explored Mongolian teacher, Han teacher and Mongolian learner beliefs about the English teaching and learning of Inner Mongolian university students, with particular focus on the students' second language ability, the languages for classroom instruction and materials development. The results of the study indicate that there are belief differences among teachers and students; in particular, the beliefs of the Han teachers differ from those of Mongolian students. This study concludes that in order to improve Mongolian students' English teaching and learning, it is of vital importance to fill the belief discrepancy between teachers and students with regard to L3 acquisition, which is regarded as one of the crucial factors influencing the teaching and learning of English for Mongolian students in multilingual contexts in Inner Mongolia, China.

December 25, 1994 marked the 70th anniversary of birth and 47 years of scientific, pedagogical and social activities of a prominent representative of the Kazan pathophysiological school, Honored Scientist of Tatarstan, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Tatyana Borisovna Tolpegina. After graduating from the Kazan Medical Institute in 1947, T. B. Tolpegina completed her postgraduate studies at the Department of Pathological Physiology under prof. A. D. Ado and in 1952 defended her thesis on the topic "On the pathogenesis of bradycardia in typhoid fever." From 1954 to 1956, she was sent by the Ministry of Health of the USSR to work at the Mongolian University as the head of the Department of Physiology. The subsequent years of work as an assistant and associate professor at the Department of Pathophysiology of the Kazan Medical Institute ended in 1967 with the defense of a doctoral dissertation on the topic Some mechanisms of an allergic reaction of the gallbladder.
