A New Procedure for the Fabrication of Custom Ocular Prosthesis – A Case Report

AbstractThe eye is a vital organ and an important component of facial expression. Loss of an eye has a crippling effect on the appearance and psychology of the patient. Surgical removal of the eye is therefore normally followed by fabrication of an ocular prosthesis to improve esthetics. A cosmetically acceptable prosthesis is that which reproduces the natural color, contour, size and iris orientation. A sequence of steps for the construction of custom made ocular prosthesis is outlined in this case report using a modified impression technique.

A modified impression technique for mandibular implant-retained overdenture

This study was conducted on impression technique on overdenture implants. The overdenture impression records the soft tissue supporting areas including retained roots or implants. Simultaneously with accurate positioning of the implant components for optimal distributions of functional loads, registering the soft tissue in functionally formed impression can be useful. The resultant master cast from this technique is accurate in terms of soft tissue detail, position of implant components, and relationship between soft tissue and implants.

Finger prosthesis with an alternative approach.

This report describes the case of a 42 years old male patient whose one right hand finger was partially lost as a result of occupational trauma. A modified impression technique was used for impression making and wax pattern was fabricated using the normal hand of the same patient. A special type of wax was formulated to make a pattern which was easily molded and carved. Two indexed casts were used to determine the length of fingers. Intrinsic and extrinsic staining was also done to match the adjacent skin colour. A ring was used as a retentive method. The patient was highly appreciative of the social acceptance after he started wearing the finger prosthesis.

Implant‐Supported Obturator Overdenture for Extensive Maxillary Resection Patient: A Clinical Report

This clinical report presents an implant-retained obturator overdenture solution for a Prosthodontic Diagnostic Index Class IV maxillectomy patient with a large oronasal communication and severe facial asymmetry, loss of upper lip and midfacial support, severe impairment of mastication, deglutition, phonetics, and speech intelligibility. Due to insufficient bone support to provide satisfactory zygomaticus implant anchorage, conventional implants were placed in the body of the left zygomatic arch and in the right maxillary tuberosity. Using a modified impression technique, a cobalt-chromium alloy framework with three overdenture attachments was constructed to retain a complete maxillary obturator. Patient-reported functional and quality of life measure outcomes were dramatically improved after treatment and at the two-year follow-up.

Electrocontact heating in a Sn60–Pb40 solder alloy

The behaviour of electrocontact heating is investigated in a Sn60–Pb40 alloy by using the modified impression technique and dc electric current in the range from 0 to 2.5 A at 298 K. The localized temperature increases with the increase in electric current, and the temperature rise on the surface at thermal equilibrium state is proportional to the square of the electric current. The increase in the temperature is consistent with the results from the finite element simulation, taking account of the effect of the oxide layer and thermal contact resistance on the contact surface. The simulation results show that the thickness of the oxide layer has a strong influence on the thermal equilibrium state of the electrocontact heating. Microstructural observation indicates that the current stressing has no effect on the evolution of microstructures under the experimental conditions.

An accurate impression method for implant prosthesis fabrication

The long-term success of an implant prosthesis depends not only on the development of osseointegration, but also on the maintenance of osseointegration after the prosthetic phase. To achieve this, a passive superstructure must be fabricated. Errors that result from the impression transfer method of implant position during the impression procedures often made it necessary to section and solder metal frameworks repeatedly. This article presents a modified impression technique intended to deal with the problems of more traditional impressions with the aim of achieving a more accurate master cast.

A modified impression technique for implant-supported restoration

An impression technique is proposed for construction of implant-borne restorations that uses a modified autopolymerizing resin custom tray to allow splinting of the impression copings directly to the tray. This method eliminates the use of the dental floss-autopolymerzing resin complex, thus decreasing resin distortion and simplifying the clinical procedures.
