The article discusses the methodology for assessing the energy efficiency of locomotives under operating conditions according to data recorded by on-board microprocessor control systems of modern locomotives. It is based on the energy approach, which allows to estimate the losses in each element of energy conversion on the locomotive. The coefficient of efficiency of equipment operation and the energy resource overrun coefficient are proposed, which make it possible to assess the energy efficiency of the operation of traction equipment and the locomotive as a whole under operating conditions, as well as the resulting cost overrun of energy resources due to the predominance of operating modes other than nominal. The energy efficiency of the traction equipment of diesel locomotives 2TE25KM and TEP70BS was assessed.
