Tanfīż Istirātījiyyah Muṭābiqah Biṭāqah Fihris (Index Card Match) liṭullāb al-Ma’had

This study aims to explain increased student learning outcomes and activeness by applying the Index Card Match strategy to the Nahwu lessons. This research is called Classroom Action Research. This research was carried out twice with four steps: planning, preparation for teaching in class, implementation of the teaching process in class, observation of students' conditions, and reflection by researchers to analyze the results of observations. The research location is the Al-Khair Ponorogo Modern Islamic Boarding School in class 2, with 20 students. In collecting data, researchers interviewed school principals and teachers to obtain information regarding student and school conditions. In the observation, the researcher recorded the conditions before and after implementation. In tests prepared by teachers related to nahwu. The data analysis used is quantitative and qualitative. The results of this study show that student learning outcomes increased by 20%. And increase student activity with a ratio of 12.5% ​​increase in student activity.

ISLAM, WESTERNIZATION AND THE ROOTS OF MODERNISM IN MUSLIM LAND

This paper Islam, westernization and the roots of modernism in Muslim land is aim at providing the need insight and the causes of the negative effects of the western modernism among Muslims. The paper discussed the western and Islamic modernization and how both of the civilization contributed to the progress of humanity and how the western modernization has negatively affected the Muslim Ummah around the world. It was discovered that Muslim elites has contributed to the infiltration of the western world into Muslim land either due their quest for power in their various countries. It is also revealed that imitators of the western life styles by Muslims most especially those who have traveled to study in either Europe and America only returned to imitate and spread such tendencies in their societies. It was discovered that Islam follows the wind of change once it is not against the true teachings of Islam and moral values as of Islam. The researchers employed desk review method as a mode of data and information for this research where major literary work was utilised. The paper concluded that, Islam accepted any change that comes it way in as far as it does not go social, economic, political and moral system of Islam as taught in the Qur’an and Sunnah of the Prophet (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Model of Educational Leadership Management in Boarding Schools

Islamic boarding schools have a wealth of knowledge that can be researched and analyzed from various scientific aspects, so research on Islamic boarding schools will be available. This study will focus on the management pattern of pesantren leadership education by choosing the largest pesantren in the country, namely the Darussalam Gontor Modern Islamic Boarding School. A qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were obtained from key informants, Islamic boarding school documents and books, journals and articles as support related to the management of leadership education in the era of globalization. Data analysis in this study used content analysis techniques. The results of the study found that the management of leadership education in the form of regeneration in the style of the Gontor Islamic Boarding School was classified into six: briefing, training, assignment, habituation, control and role modelling. The revival of leadership values at the Gontor Islamic Boarding School includes education of ibrah, habituation, mauidzah, discipline, independence and exemplary. The pattern of leadership in Darussalam Gontor Islamic Boarding School is collegial (Trimurti). The administration of the Trimurti pesantren Darussalam Gontor became the central figure of the pesantren in the leadership of three kiai. With this collective leadership model, the Gontor Islamic Boarding School will eventually become a modern institution whose survival does not depend on a single kiai as the supreme leader. Thus, Islamic boarding schools are expected to be able to foster and produce Islamic human resources.

Ramadan, Lived Religion, and the Celebration of Ambiguity

In this paper, I demonstrate how the lived practice of Ramadan in the UK signifies a tolerance and celebration of ambiguity in everyday life. I position my work against Bauer’s (2021) argument that Muslims have become increasingly unaccepting of ambiguity and that this “intolerance of ambiguity in modern Islam is a phenomenon of modernity” (29). Rather, my participants tolerated seemingly contradictory ideas, embracing subjectivity and contrasting a post-Enlightenment emphasis on certainty and objective truth. I demonstrate these subjective and ambiguous attitudes and practices through several examples. Firstly, participants displayed an ambiguous approach to sacred times. This is explored in the context of variant methods of moonsighting – to determine the start and end of Islamic months – and the perceived unknowability of one of the most sacred times of the year, Laylatu-l-qadr (The Night of Power). Secondly, participants expressed paradoxical attitudes towards food, simultaneously shunning and rejoicing in bodily desires. My paper contributes to several contemporary understandings of Islam – including the works of Thomas Bauer (2021) and Shahab Ahmed (2016) – which tend towards the idea that Muslims today have become increasingly intolerant of ambiguity and subjectivity instead adopting more rigid and binary positions. I contrast such arguments, displaying particularly how the everyday, often domestic, practice of Islam is more nuanced and complex than public discourses might reveal. Furthermore, I argue that studies of everyday, mundane aspects of religion are vital in illuminating our understanding of Islam in the modern world.

Islamic modernism in India in the second half of the 19th century and Sayit Ahmed Khan

In the 19th century, when the industrial revolution was taking place in Europe, and the major powers were colonizing the world continent, there were religious changes in the Indian subcontinent. These processes are closely related to the above two factors. Because in 1857, India officially came under British rule. During this period, the Muslims, who were a minority in the Indian subcontinent, were under the pressure of the Christianization of the British authorities on the one hand, and the Indian missionaries on the other hand. Muslims lost their political power in the Indian country, which they had ruled for centuries, and the Islamic education system collapsed. Indian Muslims sought a way out of this difficult situation from religious traditionalism, religious fundamentalism, and also religious modernism. It is the latter that interests us in this article. Modernists sought to reform religious dogmas on the basis of rationality and reason. They believed that the way out of the deadlock was to return to the basic, that is, to the Qur'an. Modernists divided the Qur'anic rulings into two types: permanent, which must be fulfilled, and transitory, which is not considered mandatory. Indian modernists criticized medieval Muslim scholars and encouraged the Muslim community to benefit from Western science and technology. And in political matters, they often supported the British government or took a passive position. The article comprehensively covers the innovative ideas of 19th-century Indian modernists on religion, Islamic law, and Islamic history, including the views of Sayyid Ahmed Khan, considered the leader of Islamic modernists in India. We will also focus on the critical views of groups such as Deobandism and Hadithism, which were against the modernist direction.

Perspectives on Modern Islamist Political Theology

This paper addresses the notion of political theology by way of accounting for modern manifestations of transnational Islamism with a particular emphasis on the establishment of theocratic rule through the contemporary political spheres of praxis in Twelver-Shiism (Shīʿa Ithnā-ʿAsharīyya). This is undertaken by way of giving some principal highlights concerning the conceptual aspects that can be accounted for from the standpoint of political theology in the broad context of Islamist fundamentalist movements. A more detailed focus is also presented in this context on the eschatology that underpins the theocracy of contemporary Twelver-Shiism in terms of its religious outlooks on history, and the conduct of its communal affairs along with the organization of its associated politicized institutions.

Persepsi Santri Terhadap Kegiatan English Club Dalam Meningkatkan Motivasi untuk Berbicara Bahasa Inggris

In order to prevent other languages, such English, from receiving less attention or from developing as much for pupils at Islamic boarding schools, they are typically required to utilize Arabic in daily communication. The purpose of this study is to boost students' desire to use English through English Club activities. At the Thawalib Gunung Padang Panjang Modern Islamic Boarding School, Joint Field Practice or PLB students from the English Language Education Study Program at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar conducted this English Club activity. Three steps make up this English Club activity: the first stage involves supplying the necessary materials; the second stage involves practice and student performance; and the third stage involves evaluating the activity by speaking with students who have participated in English Club activities. The interviews revealed that many students were encouraged to speak English by English club activities, that some terms were challenging to read, and that English was not used frequently enough in daily life while they were attending the Islamic boarding school. Based on the results found in this research shows how important English Club activities are if carried out in Islamic boarding schools because apart from being able to speak Arabic, students can also master English.

Implementation of the Profile Matching Algorithm to Identify Outstanding Students at Pesantren Modern Misbahul Ulum

This research aims to design a decision support system to identify outstanding students at the Misbahul Ulum Modern Islamic Boarding School. Although determining outstanding students is done by taking the average score from all aspects of the criteria, the evaluation process which is still carried out manually takes quite a long time. Therefore, a computerized decision support system is needed to help make decisions more efficiently and accurately. This system was developed using the PHP programming language. The aim of this research is to overcome obstacles in recognizing outstanding students at the Misbahul Ulum Modern Islamic Boarding School by applying the Profile Matching Algorithm. This method can provide the best data by comparing alternative values and predetermined criteria. This research contributes to the development of educational technology and facilitates the introduction of outstanding students at the Misbahul Ulum Modern Islamic Boarding School. By determining the criteria aspects, determining the weight value of each aspect, finding the GAP value, and carrying out a ranking process, this research produces objective results. Involving 252 students from grades 7-11, this research produced a final grade for each student. The calculation results show that Zikril got the highest score, while Asma Biwi got the lowest score.

The influence of Islamic modernization on Islamic education in Egypt in the early 19th century

Education is essential in the life of a society because, through it, people can learn science and technology. Modernization in Islamic education needs to be carried out to catch up with backwardness in all fields in Egypt. This article aims to describe the history of Islam and the modernization of Islamic education in Egypt. Starting from modern ideas from the West brought by the colonizing nation, Egypt was able to rise from adversity and catch up by giving birth to modern reformers. Reforms in education made Al Azhar a leading center for studies in the Middle East.

Modernization as the Basis for Democracy in Indonesia

The role of Islamic modernization as the basis of democracy in Indonesia. Against the backdrop of sensitive ethnic, linguistic, religious and geographic diversity, this country requires a wise approach to maintain unity and integrity. The author links democracy with the modernization of Islam, discusses the history of democracy in Islam, especially during the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, and links it to the concept of the caliphate. In the context of Indonesian democracy, research highlights restrictions on government action, tolerance, equality before the law, free elections, freedom of political parties, respect for people's rights, and respect for minority rights. This research criticizes the view that democracy only succeeds after an era of authoritarianism, while trying to raise public awareness about their role in maintaining democracy. The research discusses the risks of political Islamization in the democratic party in Indonesia. This is highlighted as a challenge to the modernization of Islam, where Islamic political parties are often misunderstood as sources of radicalism. However, research emphasizes that the modernization of Islam as a pillar of democracy must be directed at tolerance, social justice, and a positive relationship between Islamic religion and politics, without ignoring the risk of political Islamization which could damage democracy. This research concludes that Indonesia needs a democratic approach based on Islamic modernization to achieve unity, tolerance and social justice. However, it is necessary to avoid the politicization of Islam which has the potential to damage stability and democracy.

Islamic Civilization and Theological Causes of the Social Underdevelopment: A Traditionalist Reading of Modernist Theses

This paper analyzes the theory of Islam as a religion that could have formed a rationalistic civilization, based on scientific progress, individualism and democracy. One of the representative studies on this topic is the work of Mustafa Akyol Reopening of Muslim Minds, in which the author uses the method of counterfactual analysis, posing the fundamental question: what would Islamic civilization look like if in the Sunni majority had not prevailed Ash’ari theology, but rationalistic, Mu’tazili theology? Although it could be said that the author of this study does not err when he concludes that Ash’ari occasionalism stopped the development of science in Islam, he nevertheless errs when he claims that the doctrines of voluntarism, predestination, and uncreatedness of the Qur’an, were generators of injustice in Islamic society. In this paper we tried to analyze the metaphysical foundations of these doctrines, re-examine the validity of the hypothesis about their harmfulness, and re-examine whether the observed harmful effects come from Islamic tradition or from the more recent attempts of modernization of Islam.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIRECTED WRITING TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' ABILITY TO WRITE THE ARABIC PARAGRAPHS AMONG STUDENTS IN THE FIFTH SEMESTER AT MISBAH AL-ULUM MODERN ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL.

The title of this research is “The effectiveness of Insya’ Muwajjah in improving students’ ability to write the Arabic paragraph among students in the fifth at the Misbahul Ulum Modern Islamic Boarding School - Lhokseumawe.” The problem of the research is the students’ errors in writing the Arabic paragraph in terms of their formation and composition of the Arabic sentences. Hence, The research aims to determine the effectiveness of directed writing in improving students’ ability to write the Arabic paragraph at the Misbahul Ulum Modern Islamic Boarding School. The research method that the researcher relied on in this research is an experimental method and the method of collecting data is by using pre-test and post-test. The results of the research are that the directed writing teaching in teaching the Arabic paragraph writing at the Misbahul Ulum Modern Islamic Boarding School is effective in improving students’ ability to write Arabic paragraphs, the pre-test is 59.00 with a standard deviation of 11. 53. The result of the post-test was 79.00, with a standard deviation of 8.56.

Empowerment of Santri’s Healthy Lifestyle in Salafi and Modern Islamic Boarding School through Knowledge of Probiotic Food and Beverages

This empowerment is related explicitly to empowering the healthy lifestyle of students in Salafi and modern Islamic boarding schools through knowledge about probiotic food and drinks. This empowerment was carried out for one month, from January 2023 to February 2023. The location of this empowerment was Islamic boarding schools, both Salafi and modern, in Pemalang Regency and Tegal Regency. Data collection techniques in this study will be carried out using questionnaires and test instruments in the form of questions related to the problem. Data processing was carried out quantitatively through statistical tests and qualitatively. For quantitative data processing, statistical tests were used: The test applied was hypothesis testing through the chi-square distribution and hypothesis testing using the Kologorov-Smirnov method. This community empowerment includes several steps or activity procedures carried out as follows: Entrance, Diagnosis, Action Planning, Intervention (Action taking), Evaluation (Assessment), Reflection, and Exit. The results of empowering students in both Salafi and modern Islamic boarding schools can make them adopt a healthy lifestyle through probiotic food and drink accompanied by a holistic understanding of probiotics. Henceforth, these students can pass on this empowerment to other students through the application of peer tutors.

Bimbingan Pengembangan Belajar Bahasa Inggris Santri Kelas 3 KMI di Pondok Pesantren Modern Nurussalam

Islamic boarding schools (Pesantren) are pivotal in Indonesian Islamic education, with a history spanning centuries and notable contributions to Indonesia's independence struggle. Amidst evolving challenges and stimuli from the Muslim reformist community, this study examines the educational approaches at Nurussalam Modern Islamic Boarding School. Key findings reveal that: 1) The conceptual framework for learning development at Nurussalam is primarily influenced by the ideologies of its caretakers. 2) The advancement of English language education is rooted in the belief that Muslims globally contribute to the dissemination of Islamic teachings. This study focuses on enhancing English language proficiency among third-grade KMI students at Nurussalam, employing the Direct Method and Question-and-Answer Technique. This educational development initiative is conducted by students from Nurul Huda University, emphasizing practical language skills crucial for global religious discourse.

Taḥlīl al-Akhṭā’ al-Naḥwiyyah wal al-Ṣarfiyyah wa al-Imlāiyyah fī Kitābah al-Insyā’ bi al-Ma’had

The aims of this study were: 1. To find out the forms of grammatical, morphological and spelling errors in writing papers, 2. To know the analysis of grammatical, morphological and spelling errors in writing, 3. To demonstrate how to solve problems with grammatical, morphological and spelling errors in essay writing. The research approach used is qualitative research. And data collection techniques used by researchers are observation, interviews, and documentation. The research was conducted at the Ar Risalah Modern Islamic Boarding School. The results of the study: there are three forms of errors, namely: 1) morphological errors, 2) grammatical errors, 3) spelling errors. In the analysis there were 73 errors: 14 in morphological form, and grammatical errors there were 23 errors. As for overcoming the problem of morphological and grammatical errors in writing essays, namely: 1) explaining the material again, 2) giving examples of grammar, 3) repeated exercises and practices, 4) choosing learning methods

The Kyai’s Strategy to Develop Cadres with Islamic Characters

This article aims to explain the Islamic character regeneration model in Islamic boarding schools and the strategy of the kyai as the highest leader in developing Islamic character regeneration for students. The location of this research, namely Arrisalah Modern Islamic Boarding School Ponorogo, is unique from other sites because of the curriculum or general subjects at the Islamic boarding school, which is famous for its salaf curriculum, which is integrated with Islamic values typical of Islamic boarding schools. This study uses an interpretive paradigm through a qualitative approach, a case study type. The primary data were obtained from caregivers, madrasa heads, teachers, students, and other parties involved, using data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The analysis technique used is the Miles and Huberman data reduction models, data display, and verification. Checking data validity using triangulation: credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The study results show that the cadre model at Arrisalah Modern Islamic Boarding School is a reduction or transfer of the Islamic boarding school's Islamic character and values. The kyai's strategy in creating cadres with Islamic character is actualized in several aspects, including the kyai's example, curriculum, 'Ala Manhaj Rabbaniy education system, organization, Pondok discipline, and compulsory service. So, this research provides a lot of valuable insights into the cadre model in Islamic boarding schools, and it cannot be denied that there are still various opportunities for more in-depth and broad future research.

 This research aims to explore the concept of exemplary education implemented by Shalahuddin Al-Ayyubi and its relevance in the context of modern Islamic education. The research methodology employed was literature review to examine sources related to the life and education of Shalahuddin Al-Ayyubi. The findings indicate that the exemplary education implemented by Shalahuddin Al-Ayyubi has a significant impact on character formation, moral leadership development, and the strengthening of religious identity among students. The implication of this research is the need for the implementation of exemplary education in the context of modern Islamic education to nurture a generation that is of high quality, ethical, and committed to Islamic values. In the complex contemporary era, an education approach based on the exemplariness of Shalahuddin Al-Ayyubi can serve as a guide in facing the social, moral, and spiritual challenges encountered by students. By understanding and adopting the principles of traditional Islamic education implemented by Shalahuddin Al-Ayyubi, modern Islamic education can enrich educational approaches to produce individuals of dignity, noble character, and commitment to Islamic teachings.
 
 
 

The Ideological Evolution of the Tunisian Islamist Movement Ḥarakat al-Nahḍa

Abstract This essay reconstructs and analyses the ideological evolution of Ennahda, from its beginnings in the mid-1960s to 1987, when the movement adopted an official document about its “Ideological vision” (al-Ruʾya al-fikriyya), confirmed in 2012 as the movement’s main religious, creedal and methodological text. The history of Ennahda’s ideological evolution and the analysis of its doctrinal platform shows how the movement had rich, articulated and often conflicting ideological components, which evolved over time through a continuous internal debate and in mutual interaction with the tradition of Islamic modernism and the domestic and international cultural and political context.

Boarding School and Economic Change in Modern Islamic Boarding School Nurul Ikhlas, Tanah Datar Regency (1990-2015)

The establishment of the Nurul Ikhlas Modern Islamic Boarding School in Nagari Panyalaian brought changes to the local community's economy. Economic changes can be seen from people's livelihoods from the agricultural to non-agrarian sectors. The condition of society before the existence of Islamic boarding schools was more focused on agriculture and animal husbandry. The Islamic boarding school provides space for the local community to open businesses related to the needs of the students. These new job opportunities can help people fulfill their needs and alleviate economic problems. This article aims to determine the influence of Islamic boarding schools in changing the economy of the Nagari Panyalaian community. This research is historical research which consists of four stages with steps: heuristics, source criticism, synthesis, and writing (historiography). Apart from using archives, this research uses data collected through interviews and observations. The Nurul Ikhlas Modern Islamic Boarding School has sufficient resources and capital to serve as a basis for economic empowerment of the people. With these resources and capital, Islamic boarding schools can carry out various activities oriented towards the economic empowerment of local people.
