Interpersonal Communication Model of Breadwinner Moms in Building a Harmonious Household in Bandar Klippa Village, Percut Sei Tuan Subdristrict, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatera, Indonesia

This research aims to analyze the communication process, role exchange, and interpersonal communication model of breadwinner mothers in building a harmonious household in Bandar Klippa Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The method used in this research is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach so that the data is then explained in sentence form. Researchers used interviews and documentation techniques to collect data from informants and triangulation. The results found by researchers include that the communication process continues because there is an element of mutual love and need for each other, the exchange of roles that occurs is contrary to functional structure and cultural norms, so the word "boru" appears. For Batak husbands who help with household work, the communication model that occurs is the Schramm model combined with the theory of the division of roles and needs from the discipline of psychology.

Survivors’ perspectives on saying goodbye: Implications for end-of-life engagement across the lifespan and grieving process

Family members are often unaware of their loved ones’ final wishes and underestimate the need to talk about them before parents reach end-of-life (EOL). The benefits of engaging in EOL conversations alleviate needless suffering and can allow an opportunity to say goodbye in a meaningful way. We examined final conversations 13 adults recalled having with their aging parents through the lens of the opportunity model for presence (OMP) during the EOL process, a communication process model based on engagement in the dying process from diagnosis through bereavement, to understand the process from the survivor’s perspective, looking at content of conversations and where they occurred in the dying process. Findings illustrate final conversations that align with the socio-cultural space of the OMP before the knowledge that a parent was dying, and when entering imminent death engaging in the critical moments, have implications for the grief and bereavement.

Examining Extreme Rainfall Forecast and Communication Processes in the South-Central United States

Abstract Extreme rainfall events are hazardous and costly. They have increased in parts of the United States, and climate models project that trend to continue. Effective communication of potential threats and impacts associated with extreme rainfall events is one of the foci of a weather forecaster’s job and aligns with the National Weather Service (NWS)’s mission to protect life and property. This research investigated how NWS forecasters processed and communicated information about extreme rainfall events that occurred in the south-central United States between 2015 and 2019. The study also explored forecasters’ perceptions of the relationship between the events and climate change and whether those perceptions impacted the forecasts, including how forecast information was communicated. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 21 NWS forecasters about how they internally processed and externally communicated model outliers and anomalous rainfall events. Thematic analysis of the interview data identified components of sensemaking and decision-making conceptual frameworks as well as principles of forecasting. These components were then combined to create an extreme event forecast communication process model to illustrate the findings. Although forecast and communication processes are complex and vary between offices and forecasters, the communication process model presents a high-level conceptualization of how forecasters translate highly technical and disparate material into usable information for their audiences within the context of rare meteorological events. Significance Statement This study presents an extreme event forecast communication process model that helps to explain how National Weather Service forecasters process and communicate extreme rainfall events. Forecasters were interviewed about their experience with extreme rainfall events. Effective communication of such events is important because they can lead to significant, and sometimes deadly, impacts. In the future, the extreme event forecast communication process model might provide a framework for best practices and be incorporated into forecaster training materials. Additional research is needed to determine whether the model applies to regions outside the south-central United States.

A Critique of Transmission Communication Models in Introductory Management and Organizational Behavior Textbooks

Shannon and Weaver’s communication process model is a dominant model used to understand communication between a sender and receiver. The model is used to explain communication in management and organizational behavior textbooks. Despite its proliferation, few studies have examined this model’s role in introductory management and organization behavior texts or critiqued its use in foundational business courses. This paper investigates the role that transmission models such as Shannon and Weaver’s play in communication textbooks and argues that this model, and the way it is used, can be limiting for students when they are trying to understand the dynamic nature of communication in organizations. The authors call for more critical reflection on teaching communication to management students.

Organizational Resilience: Case Study of SGPROD medical IT Company

Organizational resilience has become a crucial topic in management literature (Cyrulnik and Jorland 2012) as organizations face an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environment (Boulay et al. 2021). In such an environment, organizations that are resilient are more likely to survive and thrive, while those that are not at risk of failure (Giordano-Spring et al. 2022). While organizational resilience is a multidimensional and interdisciplinary concept, one important aspect is the role of individuals in the resilience management process, specifically the levers of the manager-leader and associated behaviors (Frimousse and Peretti 2021). The objective of this working paper is to examine and analyze a case study of organizational resilience, with a focus on the role of individuals, particularly managers (Nekka and Assens 2020), in the resilience management process. The study is based on the author's personal experience of managing an SME medical IT company for over 20 years. The author highlights the importance of effective communication, emotional intelligence, and ethical leadership in building a resilient organization. This case study presents a comprehensive synthesis of empirical data from the author's experience and highlights key factors that contributed to the success of the organization. These factors include: Effective communication: The author emphasizes the importance of communication in building a resilient organization. He stresses the need for active meetings, a broad language specific to humans, and emotional intelligence that allows individuals to anchor their "employee experience" and "collective experience." The author notes that positive and ethical emotions can imprint relationships, define behaviors, and build a reassuring psychological environment (Brillet and Nicolas 2014). Ethical leadership: The author highlights the importance of ethical leadership in building a resilient organization. He suggests that ethical leadership generates a very powerful organizational resilience capable of resisting violent attacks, such as attempts to poach talents from the organization (Bruna and Jahmane 2020). Emotional intelligence: The author notes that emotions play a crucial role in building resilience in organizations (Berghmans 2018). He suggests that if emotions are positive and ethical, they can create a cultural bath that reveals talents and inspires individuals to work together towards common goals (Sghari et al. 2015). The research also proposes a new section of the process communication model to align management communication 3.0 with the specific expectations of Generation Z (Dalmas 2019). The article suggests that this is important in preparing for future challenges and ensuring organizational resilience. Overall, the paper aims to provide insights into the mechanisms of organizational resilience and the role of individuals, particularly managers, in building and maintaining resilient organizations (Weppe et al. 2013). It also aims to highlight the importance of effective communication, ethical leadership, and emotional intelligence in creating a positive and reassuring environment that can withstand challenges and inspire individuals to work together towards common goals (Albertini and Berger-Remy 2019).

Seeing the forest or the tree depends on personality: Evidence from process communication model during global/local visual search task.

In everyday life, we are continuously confronted with multiple levels of visual information processes (e.g., global information, the forest, and local information, the tree) and we must select information that has to be processed. In the present study, we investigated the relation between personality and the ability to process global and local visual information. Global precedence phenomenon was assessed by a standard global/local visual search task used in many visuo-spatial precedent studies, and the 77 participants were also presented with the standard Process Communication Model (PCM) questionnaire. Results suggest that the ability to process global and local properties of visual stimuli varied according to the Base type of participants. Even if four among six Base types (Thinker, Persister, Harmonizer and Promoter) presented a classical global visual precedence, the two other Base types (Rebel and Imaginer) presented only an effect of distractors and an effect of global advantage, respectively. Taken together, these results evidenced that each human being does not equally perceive the "forest" (global information) and the "tree" (local information). Even if objectively presented with similar visual stimuli, individual responses differ according to the Base, an inter-individual variability that could be taken into account during daily life situations.

Процессуальная модель конструирования кластеров по обучению речевой коммуникации на занятиях по иностранному языку в вузе

The aim of the study is to work out a process model of designing clusters for teaching foreign language communication at the university. In this research paper the notions ‘cluster’, ‘educational cluster’ and its content specificity have been considered. The process model of cluster training foreign speech communication to university students has been introduced. The examples of clusters to teach speech com-munication to students at the university are given. The novelty of this research consists in the substantia-tion of the model for the organizing of foreign language clusters designing process by students to com-municate in a foreign language at the university. As a result, the role of cluster approach for the partici-pants of educational process such as a teacher and students learning a foreign language is defined.

Identification Efficiency in Dynamic UHF RFID Anticollision Systems with Textile Electronic Tags

The study on the numerical model of communication processes implemented in RFID systems, in which textile electronic (RFIDtex) tags are used, is presented in the paper. The efficiency analysis covers the case of dynamic identification of a large amount of RFIDtex tags that are located in a spatial interrogation zone of a typical Internet of Textile Things (IoTT) application. Simulations carried out in order to verify the efficiency of the identification process are confirmed by measurements on the dedicated laboratory stand. Since the application of the experiment is located in the area of a maintenance-free store to detect and distinguish textile products, particular attention is paid to reconstruction of conditions and object arrangements that are typical for this type of space. The model and experiment are developed on the basis of RFIDtex transponders that are restricted under the patent claim PL231291. The obtained results prove that within the scope of the assumed number of RFIDtex transponders, the user has great freedom in choosing the parameters of the communication protocol.

Computer-assisted modeling of Quorum sensing in bacterial population exposed to antibiotics

A mathematical model for bacterial growth and control by antibiotics treatment, including Quorum sensing as a special kind of communication, is introduced. We aim in setting up a flexible model structure allowing for fast simulations and overview about the general behavior. The deterministic approach can be used for in silico studies of bacterial cooperative behavior in the special case of Quorum sensing. Since antibiotic treatment is the basic and vital way to fight pathogenic bacteria, in the present study, we propose a modification of a reaction-diffusion model of communication processes in a bacterial population exposed to antibiotics. The dynamical biological system is formalized by a system of semilinear parabolic PDEs. The numerical solution of the 2D problem is based on a hybrid computing procedure, which includes a finite difference method combined with a Monte-Carlo simulation of population dynamics. Computational experiments are performed to describe space-time distributions of key chemical compounds characterizing Quorum sensing during the growth of a bacterial population and its decrease resulting from the predetermined strategy of antibiotic treatment.

Communication of Crisis or Crisis of Communication

All over the world, scientists and governance systems are currently challenged to assess and strategically communicate information towards the public to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. Spurred by the global outbreak of COVID-19, affecting all areas of social and economic life the interest of management and organization scholars into the topic of crisis has rekindled. However, little is known about how organizations communicate to monitor, detect, prevent, and/or control crises, that are characterized by high levels of uncertainty and complexity. In our empirical study we investigate the communication of the Robert Koch-Institute, a federal institution of the German government, throughout the early stages of the pandemic in 2020. Thereby, we seek to understand how organizations perform such mission-driven communication, by drawing on speech act theory and the concept of performativity. Finally, we develop a process model of a process-model of performative communication.

Bureaucratic Reform Strategy In Improving The Quality Of Public Services By Implementing Bureaucratic Communication Model in Cimahi City

This study aims to look at the bureaucratic reform strategy for improving public services in Cimahi City. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, namely interview data collection techniques, literature study, and observation. Research result; mapping of the condition of the Cimahi City Regional Government in terms of institutions, management, bureaucratic ethics, a description of the reasons why bureaucratic reform is needed, and the formulation of general guidelines for bureaucratic reform strategies that refer to the Grand Design of bureaucratic reform through 8 (eight) areas of change, namely: Mental Apparatus, Legislation -Invitation, Performance Accountability, Management, Supervision, Institutional, Apparatus HR, and Public Services. And the formation of a model of government bureaucratic communication. The bureaucratic communication model is expected to be able to accelerate the process of bureaucratic reform in government. The models are SR (Stimulus-Response) model, Aristotels Linear communication model, Linear development communication model (Shannon and Wever), SMCR Communication Model (Sender, Message, Channel, and Receiver), Bureaucratic Communication Process model, and Bureaucratic communication model. With the government bureaucratic communication model in public services, it is expected to create quality and effective communication.

Autosuggestion Phonological Ways of Teaching English Senior Pupils

The objectives of our article are: to show the essence of communicative learning techniques, according to which the learning process is a model of communication process; to achieve communicative activity of pupils by the way of providing some laws; to describe the definition of the term «communicative competence»; to describe four components that make up the communicative competence (grammatical competence, sociolinguistic competence, the competence of the statement, the competence of a speech strategy); to show the methods of studying foreign languages according to the Communicative Approach in Contemporary English Language Methodology; to describe some important auto-suggestive methods of teaching English which are Phonetic teaching strategies and auto-suggestive phonological ways of teaching English senior pupils. The following theoretical methods of the research were used to solve the tasks formulated in the article: a categorical method, structural and functional methods, the methods of the analysis, systematization, modeling, generalization. The results of the research. In the senior classes there is an actualization (accentuation) of pupils’ knowledge in determining their choice of their own educational path. A reflexive component of schoolchildren’s facilitative interaction is of great importance. In this case, the principle of dialogic reflection, based on the analysis of things, objects or phenomena from different points of view, sometimes is opposite and completely incompatible, becomes especially important. This principle is considered by us as a principle of additionality, and therefore strengthening (intensification) of auto-suggestive interaction of pupils at school should be based not on antagonism of internal and external dialogues, but on their combination, which emphasizes the importance of modeling dialogue, dialogic interaction, dialogic influence and dialogic culture. Conclusions. Thus, we’d like to analyze the psychoanalytic and cultural-historical determinants of the organization of the educational process in secondary education through auto-suggestive interaction. We believe that auto-suggestive interaction is based on the principles of unconscious content, when the frames or scripts that are updated, are not actually realized by the individual. According to this, all the experience is concentrated in the collective unconscious items. This experience is accumulated by mankind throughout the history of its existence, and this experience can not be leveled, but it can only be pushed into the realm of the unconscious. It is in the unconscious content of ancient peoples – the myths – you can see a large number of plots that give the Child a special purpose: he/she plays the role of the Messiah, for him/her there are subjects with the most secret knowledge. Thus, it becomes largely understandable such amazing knowledge that the child in a young age and does not try to master. Thus, we’ve to note that children’s speech is characterized by a large degree of egocentrism, when the child does not care about the partners of communication, that is does not try to be understood by others and only speaks for himself/ herself – his/her speech is purely monologue. In addition, the child’s speech is not fully socialized, self-directed, and it is based not only on the syncretism of reasoning, which is closely related to the syncretism of understanding. The child, given some clear words of the partner of communication, creates some image of the topic, sometimes it is wrong, because the words are not always logically related, and on the basis of this holistic scheme for himself/herself masters new material, trying to explain it by analogy with certain, well-known things. As a result, the child, becoming an adult, increasingly becomes involved into the public life, his/her speech becomes universal that is it loses its internal orientation, moving to a form of purely external speech.

EFEKTIFITAS KOMUNIKASI KONSELING TERHADAP ORANG DENGAN HIV/AIDS (ODHA) DALAM MEMPERPANJANG HARAPAN HIDUP (Studi Kasus Konselor Di Komite AIDS HKBP)

The purpose of this study was to analyze the communication process, communication barriers and effective communication on HIV / AIDS counseling in the HKBP AIDS Committee. The theory used is Communication theory, Communication Process Model Shannon and Weaver, Interpersonal Communication Theory, Johari Window Theory This research uses qualitative descriptive method and case study. The data was collected for three months through observation and in-depth interviews of two counselors, two people living with HIV and one community leader. Data analysis using interactive model The important finding of this research is the communication process in HIV / AIDS counseling is the process of delivering HIV / AIDS information by counselor to ODHA client whose purpose is to provide support and strengthening. The form of communication in HIV/AIDS counseling is interpersonal communication.

Обґрунтування стратегічних рішень управління при виборі методології управління ефективною системою комунікацій підприємства

Abstract. Introduction. In recent years, along with the growing role of marketing, the role of marketing communications has increased. Effective communication with consumers has become a key factor in the success of any organization. Modern marketing requires much more than creating a product or service that meets customer needs. Businesses should communicate with customers, and there should be nothing accidental in the content of communications. Purpose. The aim of the work is to study and substantiate strategic management decisions when choosing a management methodology for an effective communication system of the enterprise. Results. Based on the results of the analysis of known communication models, two different approaches to their description have been established and a model of communication process has been built. As a methodological basis of the management process, a hierarchical model of communication goals and effects has been proposed. To control the key stages of the communication process, management decisions, a system of performance indicators has been proposed. The proposed method of goal formation and management mechanism provide scientific novelty and will allow companies to analyze the effectiveness of their communication strategy, develop an effective strategy, improve the organizational and functional management structure, improve the implementation of management decisions on marketing communications and move to planning the company's communications system. Conclusions. The organization of the proposed changes will help improve communication between business and consumers, increase market share, ensure consumer awareness, improve the company's image and provide effective feedback. The effectiveness of assessing the implementation of communications, in our opinion, will determine how satisfied the information and communication needs of both management and control subsystems, as well as the external environment, and on this basis the company's management will be able to make informed decisions. It is possible to predict the probability of successful implementation of communication measures based on the coefficients of management adequacy and consent in the team.

Initiating a cross-sector interorganizational collaboration: lessons from a failed attempt at following appreciative inquiry practice

ABSTRACT Appreciative Inquiry is a theory of intentional collective action which provides a model of communication processes for recognizing existing organizational strengths, as opposed to problems, as the basis for action plans. This paper reports on a case where Appreciative Inquiry was improperly applied to an all-day workshop that was aimed at initiating a new interorganizational collaboration (IOC) among 18 different agencies from public transportation and health sectors. We analyze why and how the workshop participants could not envision their potential IOC. The analysis reveals several issues related to the design elements of the workshop, caused in part by the facilitator’s overreliance on Appreciative Inquiry’s 4D model and lack of consideration of the communicative needs in the specific context (i.e. pre-IOC interactions among unfamiliar organizational representatives that have not worked together previously). The paper concludes with suggestions for applying Appreciative Inquiry in IOCs.

Communicating our way to engaged volunteers: A mediated process model of volunteer communication, engagement, and commitment.

Retaining productive volunteers is an essential issue nonprofit organizations face, as volunteers help extend nonprofits' services to their target populations. The current study examined two facets of communication, perception of voice (i.e., upward communication) and satisfaction with communication (i.e., downward communication), as well as training, as important volunteer management practices with respect to facilitating volunteer engagement and commitment using both psychological contract and social exchange theories as the framework. One-hundred and seventy-one volunteers from two nonprofit organizations were surveyed to assess their satisfaction with the communication processes at their respective agencies, as well as their level of engagement, commitment, and perception of the training they received for their volunteer roles. Volunteer perceptions of both upward and downward communication were found to be indirectly related to organizational commitment through engagement. In addition, results indicated that volunteer training practices moderated the effects of upward and downward communication on engagement and commitment. Findings suggested that upward and downward communication are important predictors of volunteer engagement and commitment. Furthermore, providing training may help to strengthen these indirect effects.

Communication Challenges in the Military Institution

This paper examines communication challenges within the military institution in Botswana. There seems to be rigid ways of delivering messages which in the end impede smooth communication practices between senior personnel and their subordinates within the institution. This study adopted the qualitative analysis to interrogate issues underlying communication practices from military classrooms for three years. The target group was middle ranking officers in institution who take Communication and Study Skills course as a requirement for their study at the University of Botswana. Data were collected using open ended questionnaires, interviews and group discussions in the classrooms. The model of communication process and new media were used to benchmark the practices within the institution against what the concepts say. The findings indicated that indeed communication processes were marred with problems that hinder smooth transition of messages from the sender to the receiver and ended up frustrating the subordinates. The study concluded that revamping and sanitizing communication practices within the military institution was necessary through educating the leadership to address the barriers encountered.

Application of marketing communication technologies in coding information

The purpose of the article is to reveal the types of communication technologies, generalize their essence, describe the components of the model of information and communication process, highlight the application of marketing communication technologies in coding appeals in building effective communications with target audiences. Methodology of research. The solution of the goals and tasks set in the article is realized with the help of appropriate general scientific special research methods: analysis and synthesis, systematization and generalization, logical approach. Findings. The understanding of the importance of communication technologies in the planning of marketing communications has been adapted. The essence of the model of information and communication process is revealed; attention is focused on highlighting an additional filter through which information necessarily passes, namely – the internal psychological limitations of the recipient in the perception of the sent information, barriers in the perception of information, low level of trust in communication messages. Based on this, it is established that in the conditions of oversaturation of information space, greater practical education of consumers and not finding in most communication messages of qualitative content, the more professional application of communication technologies in creating communication appeals becomes relevant. In particular, the use of the following communication technologies in the coding of marketing messages is proposed: communicative technology of linguistic manipulation; technology of symbolism, in the form of myth-making and mystification; behaviorism technology; gestalt psychology technology; technology of cognition; neuromarketing technology; humanization technology. A critical assessment of the practical application of color as a communication technology and the feasibility of using the term “25th frame” in characterizing the types of communication technologies. Practical value. It is recommended to apply the main scientific provisions of the article when planning marketing communications, reproduction of the set ideas in high-quality information content, establishing two-way communication with target audiences.
