Baryon-number — flavor separation in the topological expansion of QCD

Gauge invariance of QCD dictates the presence of string junctions in the wave functions of baryons. In high-energy inclusive processes, these baryon junctions have been predicted to induce the separation of the flows of baryon number and flavor. In this paper we describe this phenomenon using the analog-gas model of multiparticle production proposed long time ago by Feynman and Wilson and adapted here to accommodate the topological expansion in QCD. In this framework, duality arguments suggest the existence of two degenerate junction-antijunction glueball Regge trajectories of opposite C\\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \\usepackage{amsmath} \\usepackage{wasysym} \\usepackage{amsfonts} \\usepackage{amssymb} \\usepackage{amsbsy} \\usepackage{mathrsfs} \\usepackage{upgreek} \\setlength{\\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \\begin{document}$$ \\mathcal{C} $$\\end{document}-parity with intercept close to 1/2. The corresponding results for the energy and rapidity dependence of baryon stopping are in reasonably good agreement with recent experimental findings from STAR and ALICE experiments. We show that accounting for correlations between the fragmenting strings further improves agreement with the data, and outline additional experimental tests of our picture at the existing (RHIC, LHC, JLab) and future (EIC) facilities.

The U-Matrix geometrical model for multi-particle production in high-energy hadronic collisions

Inspired by the picture portraying the KNO scaling violation as an extension of the geometrical scaling violation, the current study proposes a phenomenological model for multi-particle production in hadron collisions based on the geometrical approach and using the U-Matrix unitarization scheme of the scattering amplitude. The model has been fine-tuned and all parameters have been derived from optimal fits to various hadronic multiplicity distributions data in p + pp¯\\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \\usepackage{amsmath} \\usepackage{wasysym} \\usepackage{amsfonts} \\usepackage{amssymb} \\usepackage{amsbsy} \\usepackage{mathrsfs} \\usepackage{upgreek} \\setlength{\\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \\begin{document}$$ p\\left(\\overline{p}\\right) $$\\end{document} collisions across a broad range of energies. The results have revealed that our model furnishes a reasonable description of diverse multiplicity distributions at various energies. Besides, they have demonstrated a pronounced violation of the geometrical scaling, which eventually resulted in a significant violation of the KNO scaling. The study has also analyzed the higher-order moments of the multiplicity distribution. We have observed an unexpected overestimation of the fluctuations and correlations between final state particles with increasing energy, particularly above LHC energy. It is claimed that this overestimation is due to statistical fluctuations embedded in the U-matrix scheme. The findings of this study have shed light on the key role of the U-matrix scheme in the impact of collision geometry on multi-particle production processes at high energy.

Multipomeron Model with Collective Effects for High-Energy Hadron Collisions

We propose the generalized multipomeron exchange model for multiparticle production in high-energy proton–proton, proton–nucleus and heavy-ion collisions. For all of these systems, we consider collectivity effects based on the quark–gluon string fusion concept, where new types of particle-emitting sources—strings with higher tension—are produced. We obtained the model parameters using the data on the multiplicity dependence of the mean transverse momentum of charged particles in pp and pp¯ collisions over a wide energy range (from ISR to LHC). We calculated the yields of strange, multi-strange and charm particles as a function of multiplicity for pp, p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC energy and compared the results with the experimental data.

Multiperipheral final states in crowded twin-jet events at the LHC

The 13 TeV run of the LHC has provided a unique opportunity to explore multi-jet final states with unprecedented accuracy. An interesting region for study is that of events where one jet is tagged in the forward direction and another one in the backward direction and a plethora of low energy mini-jets populate the possibly large rapidity span in between them. Since the number of these events is very high, it is possible to introduce stringent constraints on the transverse momentum of the two leading jets which can be kept in small windows not very different from each other, defining what we call “twin jets”. The associated “crowd” of mini-jets can also have a restricted span in transverse momentum. The study of these events for a fixed multiplicity is an ideal playground to investigate different models of multi-particle production in hadron-hadron collisions. We set up an exploratory analysis by using an ancient model of Chew and Pignotti to describe the gross features one can expect for the structure of single and double differential-in-rapidity cross sections and for particle-particle rapidity correlations when the longitudinal phase space completely decouples from the transverse degrees of freedom.

Anomalous features of particle production in high-multiplicity events of pp collisions at the LHC energies

Prevalent models of multiparticle production in relativistic $pp$ collisions at pre-LHC energies fail to provide convincing explanations of certain significant features of the final-state charged particles in high-multiplicity $pp$ events at the LHC. In this article we study these features---which are usually interpreted as the collective behavior of particle production in relativistic heavy-ion collisions---in the framework of the hydrodynamic epos3 model, emphasizing a quantitative comparison between the data and model-based simulations in the same kinematic ranges for better understanding of the data. The work reveals a quantitative mismatch between the data and the model.

Ridge effect and three-particle correlations

Pseudorapidity and azimuthal three-particle correlations are studied based on a correlated-cluster model of multiparticle production. The model provides a common framework for correlations in proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions allowing easy comparison with the measurements. It is shown that azimuthal cluster correlations are definitely required in order to understand three-particle correlations in the near-side ridge effect. This is similar to the explanation of the ridge phenomenon found in our previous analysis of two-particle correlations and generalizes the model to higher-order correlations.

Weibull model of multiplicity distribution in hadron-hadron collisions

We introduce the Weibull distribution as a simple parametrization of charged particle multiplicities in hadron-hadron collisions at all available energies, ranging from ISR energies to the most recent LHC energies. In statistics, the Weibull distribution has wide applicability in natural processes involving fragmentation processes. This gives a natural connection to the available state-of-the-art models for multi-particle production in hadron hadron collisions involving QCD parton fragmentation and hadronization.

Unified thermal freeze-out model and its parameters at RHIC

The variation of the parameters (thermal freeze-out temperature, transverse collective flow velocity parameter, distribution width and the nuclear transparency parameters a and b ) of the unified statistical thermal freeze-out model of multi-particle production with the center of mass energy, s NN have been studied at RHIC. We find that the transverse collective flow velocity parameter increases with the increase in s NN . The thermal/hydro-dynamical freeze-out temperature is found to decrease with the increase in s NN . It is found that the freeze-out of doubly and triply strange particles occur at somewhat earlier times compared to non-strange and singly strange hadronic species during the evolution of the fireball at each energy. The value of “ a ” is found to increase with the decrease in energy while as the value of “ b ” is found to increase with the increase in center of mass energy.

A hadronization model for few-GeV neutrino interactions

We present a detailed description of a new hadronic multiparticle production model for use in neutrino interaction simulations. Its validity spans a wide invariant mass range starting from the pion production threshold. This model focuses on the low invariant mass region which is probed in few-GeV neutrino interactions and is of particular importance to neutrino oscillation experiments using accelerator and atmospheric fluxes. It exhibits reasonable agreement with a wide variety of experimental data. We also describe measurements that can be made in upcoming experiments that can improve modeling in areas where uncertainties are currently large.

Correlator analysis of multiparticle events

A procedure for the evaluation of correlators of any order in a reasonable computer time is presented. Connection between correlators and fluctuations of the event mean values of observables is discussed. Extension of the procedure to event-by-event approach is suggested. The usefulness of the method is demonstrated using the events simulated within various models of multiparticle production.

An eikonal model for multiparticle production in hadron-hadron interactions

We introduce an eikonal Monte Carlo model (running in conjunction with HERWIG) for simulating multiparticle production in hadron-hadron interactions. We compare our simulated data to the CDF Tevatron measurement of the underlying event activity in hard inelastic proton-antiproton scattering at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV. By fixing the only free parameter in our model, the total hadron-hadron cross section, we find that our model describes the data better than either the HERWIG Underlying Event model or the Hard Multiparton model.

UNDERSTANDING THE NATURE OF PROTON–AIR CROSS-SECTIONS AT VERY HIGH ENERGIES AND THE IMPLICATIONS

The purpose of this paper is to focus on the possible effective role of two relatively less-known models in analyzing comprehensively the very up-to-date data on proton–air inelastic cross-sections at high and ultra high energies. The standard versions of all the familiar simulation-based multiparticle production models, which nowadays normally claim front-ranking positions, address on the contrary, only a small part of the cross-section data for a very limited or sectional range of energy values. Against this background, the relevance and impact of the present study have finally been highlighted.

Chemical fluctuations in high-energy nuclear collisions

Fluctuations of the chemical composition of the hadronic system produced in nuclear collisions are discussed using the Φ-measure which has been earlier applied to study the transverse momentum fluctuations. The measure is expressed through the moments of the multiplicity distribution and then the properties of Φ are discussed within a few models of multiparticle production. A special attention is paid to the fluctuations in the equilibrium ideal quantum gas. The system of kaons and pions, which is particularly interesting from the experimental point of view, is discussed in detail.

Erraticity analysis of the NA27 data

An erraticity analysis is performed for the data of 400 GeV/ c pp collisions. The new erraticity measures χ( p, q), χ q ′, ω q , μ q ′ and r q are applied and compared with the results presented by Z. Cao and R.C. Hwa. A similarity is seen. This means that the Monte Carlo model ECOMB is a soft-interaction multiparticle production model which can reproduce the fluctuations of the spatial patterns of the final states of high-energy hadronic collisions.

New explanation of the strange baryon rapidity distributions in ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions

A model of multiparticle production in hadronic collisions at ultra-relativistic energies, based on the assumption of independent string fragmentation, reproduces the rapidity spectra of Λ and Λ in sulphur-sulphur collisions reported by the NA35 Collaboration. This is achieved after a reconsideration of the intermediate multi-string states and the structure of the diquarks. Nuclear stopping power is also studied through the computation of the p- p rapidity spectra.

Statistical model analysis of multiparticle correlations ine+e−annihilation

A new statistical model for multiparticle production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation is proposed based on the idea of the longitudinal phase space with limited transverse momentum. The longitudinal rapidity space is divided into cells of equal size in order to take into account the Bose-Einstein correlations(BEC) with a finite correlation length $\delta y$. The maximum entropy method is used to determine the probability distributions of the final state pions (or $\rho$ mesons) for a given mean multiplicity, mean transverse momentum and mean total energy. Event simulation based on our model is performed in two extreme cases, a $\pi$-model and a $\rho$-model. The $\pi$-model assumes that only pions are produced directly. On the other hand, the $\rho$-model assumes that only $\rho$ mesons are produced directly and they decay into pions. A good overall fit to experimental data from PETRA to LEP energy regions is obtained for $\delta y$ ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 in the $\pi$-model. We found that the BEC plays a very important role to reproduce various correlation data. In some correlation data, resonance effect and conservation laws are also important.

Monte Carlo model for multiparticle production at ultrarelativistic energies.

The Monte Carlo parton string model for multiparticle production in hadron-hadron, hadron-nucleus, and nucleus-nucleus collisions at high energies is described. An adequate choice of the parameters in the model gives the possibility of recovering the main results of the dual parton model, with the advantage of treating both hadron and nuclear interactions on the same footing, reducing them to interactions between partons. Also the possibility of considering both soft and hard parton interactions is introduced. Comparison to the available experimental data on nucleon and nuclear collisions, together with predictions for mean multiplicities, net baryon rapidity distributions, and the temporal evolution of meson densities for heavy ion collisions at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (194A) GeV) and the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (200A GeV) are presented. Furthermore, predictions for charm production at these energies are given.

Energy dependence of inelasticity and gluon activity in high-energy reactions

The correlation between inelasticity and cross section is discussed for a sample of theoretical models of multiparticle production which address the question of inelasticity and its energy dependence. In particular, assuming the gluonic origin of the growth of cross section, the two-component valon-gluon model (VGM) is formulated and the energy dependence of inelasticity is derived. It is pointed out that the resultant decrease in inelasticity arises as a consequence of the increase with energy of the abundance of gluonic collisions.

Analytical description of hadronic integral spectra of cosmic-ray superfamilies with Feynman scaling breaking.

We describe charged hadronic energy spectra of the cosmic-ray superfamilies named Ursa Maior and P3'-C1-B90, detected by the Chacaltaya and Pamir Emulsion Chamber Collaborations, respectively, using analytical solutions for the diffusion equations. We obtain a very good description of these events incorporating Feynman scaling breaking in the multiparticle production model of our cascading formalism. Centauro exotic events are also investigated.
