Educational Mobile Apps Enhancing Communication Skills in Children With Autism in Arab Countries

This exploratory literature review investigates the landscape of educational mobile applications designed for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Arab countries, with a specific focus on their efficacy in improving communication skills. After a comprehensive search of academic databases and digital libraries, nine studies were reviewed. These studies discussed seven Arabic-language applications designed for ASD children. Consistent with previous research findings, these applications were found to be effective in enhancing communication skills among ASD individuals. By shedding light on the few existing Arabic-language educational mobile applications for ASD children in Arab countries, this comprehensive review contributes significantly to the discourse surrounding ASD interventions. Additionally, it highlights the immediate need for linguistically and culturally sensitive educational applications, designed for a specific population of Arab children with ASD.

Integration of Gamification and Mobile Applications to Promote Inclusive Education: a Techno Pedagogical Approach

Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze, through a document-based synthesis of existing literature, the integration of gamification and mobile applications in inclusive education, focusing on their potential to support the academic development of students. Theoretical Framework: The research presents key concepts and theories that underpin the implementation of gamification and mobile applications in the context of inclusive education, providing a solid theoretical framework that aids in understanding the study's context. Method: Through the review of 20 scientific articles, several effective strategies for implementing various technological tools (mobile applications) in the teaching-learning process are identified, with a special focus on inclusive education. Results and Discussion: It was shown that the use of playful elements and technological resources enhances active student participation, particularly for those with special educational needs, facilitating the development of soft skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, and self-efficacy. Research Implications: The implications of this research span various areas of education, highlighting the need to integrate innovative pedagogical approaches that promote equitable access and inclusion. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by analyzing innovative approaches to the integration of gamification and mobile applications in emerging educational models. Its value lies in the need to develop projects that break educational monotony, promoting interactive experiences that empower both learners and educators.

Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial on the Development and Effectiveness of an Educational Mobile Application Using an Integrated Change Model to Prevent Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors

Background: An effective approach to preventing cardiovascular issues is the use of mobile health applications to improve modifiable risk factors. This protocol for a randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the development and effectiveness of an educational mobile app that employs an integrated change model to reduce risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) among individuals aged 20 to 69 years. Methods: This study will be a parallel, randomized, single-blind clinical trial utilizing the randomized block design involving 430 participants. The participants will be divided into a control group receiving standard clinical care and an intervention group receiving standard clinical care along with app-based education, over approximately 6 months. Conclusion: This application has been designed to enhance motivation, awareness, and positive habits to reduce risk factors in individuals at increased risk of ASCVD. Consequently, the results could improve cardiovascular health knowledge, manage biological risk factors, and modify cardiac behaviors through mobile applications. This research is expected to present a promising approach to utilizing mobile apps for managing cardiovascular health and contribute to the growing body of research on digital health interventions.

A Comparative Study of Maze Generation Algorithms in a Game-Based Mobile Learning Application for Learning Basic Programming Concepts

This study evaluates several maze generation algorithms applied to generate mazes in a game-based Android mobile application designed to support children in learning basic programming concepts and computational thinking. Each algorithm is assessed for its ability to generate solvable and educationally effective mazes, varying in complexity and size. Key findings indicate that Wilson’s and Aldous–Broder algorithms were identified as the most time inefficient. In comparison, Sidewinder and Binary Tree algorithms perform best for smaller mazes due to their straightforward traversal methods. The Hunt-and-Kill and Recursive backtracker algorithms maintain higher ratios of longest paths, making them suitable for the more complex maze generation required for advanced game levels. Additionally, the study explores various maze-solving algorithms, highlighting the efficiency of the recursive algorithm for simpler mazes and the reliability of Dijkstra’s algorithm across diverse maze structures. This research underscores the importance of selecting appropriate maze generation and solving algorithms to balance generation speed, path complexity, and navigational characteristics. While the study demonstrates the practical applicability of these algorithms in a mobile educational application, it also identifies limitations and suggests directions for future research.

The Feasibility and Acceptability of a Mobile Application for Oral Health Education Among Adults in Rwanda.

Mobile technology health application (mobile Apps) can assist people manage their health and wellness, encourage healthy lifestyles, and provide valuable information whenever necessary. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a mobile App for oral health education among adults in Rwanda. This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. A total of 111 adult participants evaluated the acceptability and feasibility of the BrushDJ mobile App after using it for three months. At the end of this period, an online survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire consisting of questions on demographics, habitual oral health, assessing acceptability, and assessing the feasibility of the mobile App. Descriptive statistics were performed to analyse demographic characteristics, the feasibility and acceptability of the mobile App. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test was performed to detect significant associations amongst the variables. The response rate was 81% (n=90) of 111 participants who took part in the study, with the majority of participants 44.44% (n=40) aged between 18 and 27 years old. Just over half of the participants were male 51.11% (n=46). The mobile App was found to be highly acceptable (87.78%; n=79) and considered highly feasible (84.44%; n=76) by most of the participants. The differences in acceptability and feasibility across education levels were statistically significant (p=0.000 for acceptability and p=0.038 for feasibility). The study revealed that the mobile App for oral health education (BrushDJ) was highly acceptable and feasible among the participants. The mobile App had a user-friendly interface and comprehensive guidance on oral hygiene procedures facilitated by its diverse and well-integrated functions.

The Growth of Mobile Learning Applications in Language Education: A Bibliometric Overview

The rapid advancement of mobile technology has transformed education, with mobile learning applications (m-learning) becoming integral to language education. This study provides a bibliometric analysis of research on mobile learning applications in language education, examining trends, types of research, and key themes from 2010 to 2023. Data were collected from major academic databases, including Scopus, Web of Science, SINTA, and Google Scholar, using keywords related to mobile learning and language education. The findings reveal a significant increase in publications over the past five years, reflecting the growing academic interest in m-learning. Qualitative research methods have been predominantly used, focusing on user experiences and the contextual nature of mobile learning. Critical thinking skills have emerged as a key area of focus, indicating a shift towards using mobile learning for deeper cognitive processes. The study also highlights the central role of students as research subjects, while noting a gap in research on other stakeholders, such as teachers and administrators. Data collection has primarily relied on tests to measure cognitive outcomes, but the study suggests incorporating a variety of methods to capture a more holistic view of the learning experience. The conclusion emphasizes the need for ongoing research to optimize the use of mobile learning applications in language education, advocating for a broader inclusion of stakeholders and diverse research methodologies. This bibliometric overview contributes to the understanding of mobile learning's impact on language education and offers insights for future research directions.

Enhancing Diabetic Elderly Health Diet Education Through Mobile Application: An Interdisciplinary Conceptual Framework

The increasing incidence of diabetes among the elderly has heightened the demand for effective healthcare solutions, with mobile applications emerging as promising options for managing healthy diet education. However, age-related declines in cognitive, physical, and sensory functions may reduce elderly's willingness to learn new technologies. This study aims to examine the dietary needs of diabetic elderly, identify factors influencing their learning habits, and explore key elements in designing and accepting mobile applications. Using a four-step approach—identifying target users, reviewing literature, pinpointing key variables, and developing a conceptual framework—the study found that exercise, BMI, and a healthy diet attitude significantly shape dietary habits. It also identified appearance, functionality, and interface design as critical factors for mobile applications. Additionally, perceived ease of use, usefulness, safety, and enjoyment were found to be important for acceptance. These elements should guide future research in designing mobile applications for diabetic elderly healthy diet education.

The effect of education through a mobile application on self-care behavior in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary: A randomized clinical trial

Background & Aim: Patients who receive percutaneous coronary interventions often display inadequate levels of self-care actions, which could create difficulties in managing the disease and achieving favorable treatment results. This study investigates the impact of using an educational mobile application on self-care behaviors in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. Methods & Materials: A randomized clinical trial was conducted with 110 patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions at Shahid Rajaei Hospital in Karaj, Iran, in 2023. The study enrolled and assigned them to either the intervention group (n=55) or the control group (n=55) by block randomization. In addition to training upon discharge, the experimental group received educational resources via a mobile phone application. The data collection instruments included MSCBS. Patients completed the MSCBS before the intervention and 4 weeks later. The data were analyzed with SPSS 21. The study's level of significance was set to P<0.05. Results: Before the intervention, there was no significant difference in the self-care scores and the subscales between the two groups (P<0.05). Nonetheless, After the intervention, a significant difference was observed in the self-care scores and the subscales between the control and intervention groups, (p=0.001), and the difference in scores between the control and intervention groups increased significantly after the intervention and the scores of the intervention group had a significant increase compared to the scores of the control group. Conclusion: The study showed that the mobile phone educational application could improve self-care behaviors in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions. Therefore, it can be recommended that nurses working in medical centers use this educational application to enhance self-care in these patients.

The use of mobile applications in higher education institutions to enhance the quality of the educational process

The article reveals the possibilities of mobile applications and experimentally proves the practicality of their use in the professional training of specialists. The popularity and significance of various mobile applications in the modern educational process have been demonstrated. The spectrum of mobile applications was analyzed, the content of mobile applications was revealed, and the most effective of them were considered, which can be useful in teaching pedagogical, natural, and humanitarian disciplines and can be used in distance learning conditions to support and motivate learning. The didactic principles that educational mobile applications must comply with are highlighted, and their advantages and disadvantages are shown. Specific forms, methods, and ways of introducing mobile learning into the educational process of a higher school were considered, which should be actively applied by teachers in the educational process of a higher school. The conducted experimental research on the importance and necessity of using mobile applications in education shows that mobile learning has become popular among young people and most university students are psychologically and technically ready for the use of educational mobile programs in education and require the mandatory use of mobile applications in the educational space of a higher school.

Artırılmış gerçeklik, son yıllarda tıp, askeri, sağlık, mesleki eğitim, farklı kademelerdeki öğretim süreçleri, turizm, tıp ve görsel medya gibi alanlarda kullanılmaktadır. Eğitimde artırılmış gerçeklik uygulamaları öğrencilerin hayal gücünün ve yaratıcılıklarının gelişmesine destek olarak ve gerçek dünyayla olan etkileşimini artırarak etkili bir öğrenme şekli sunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada İlkokul 3. sınıf öğrencilerinin İngilizce derslerine yönelik Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı müfredatına uygun şekilde yardımcı materyal olarak kullanılabilecek bir materyal tasarlanması amaçlanmıştır. Bu çalışma kapsamında etkinlik tasarımında öğrencilerin eğlenerek öğrenebilecekleri, dikkat çekici öğrenme ortamı sunabilen artırılmış gerçeklik teknolojisi tabanlı, Unity 3D ve Vuforia SDK ile mobil uygulama gerçekleştirilmiştir.

AUGMENTED REALITY AS A WAY TO PRESENT EDUCATIONAL CONTENTIN THE MOBILE APPS

This article deals with the issue of implementing the capabilities of augmented reality in learning mobile applications, which is very topical for modern education. The aim of the article is to consider the application of augmented reality in the learning content of mobile applications. This article is devoted to the main aspects of the educational mobile technologies and practical application of the research results in the educational process of the general education institutions. The article deals with the application of the educational content of the mobile application module with the application of augmented reality on the example of teaching the subjects ―Informatics‖ and ―Digital literacy‖ in the secondary general education schools of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The basic definitions associated with educational mobile applications and augmented reality technologyare given, an analysis of the subject area is carried out. The international experience of applying this technology in the educational process is considered. The stages of studying the subjects ―Informatics‖ and ―Digital Literacy‖ using mobile technologies of educational direction, such as mobile applications for the organization of the learning process and assessment of knowledge, skills and abilities of students are described. As a result of the experiment, the mobile application was practically realizedand the adapted author's program ―Application of mobile technologies at the lessons of informatics and digital literacy‖ was developed. The received results of application of mobile technologies in studying of a school course of computer science and digital literacy confirm the relevance of the carried out research.

Quantifying Dwell Time With Location-based Augmented Reality: Dynamic AOI Analysis on Mobile Eye Tracking Data With Vision Transformer.

Mobile eye tracking captures egocentric vision and is well-suited for naturalistic studies. However, its data is noisy, especially when acquired outdoor with multiple participants over several sessions. Area of interest analysis on moving targets is difficult because A) camera and objects move nonlinearly and may disappear/reappear from the scene; and B) off-the-shelf analysis tools are limited to linearly moving objects. As a result, researchers resort to time-consuming manual annotation, which limits the use of mobile eye tracking in naturalistic studies. We introduce a method based on a fine-tuned Vision Transformer (ViT) model for classifying frames with overlaying gaze markers. After fine-tuning a model on a manually labelled training set made of 1.98% (=7845 frames) of our entire data for three epochs, our model reached 99.34% accuracy as evaluated on hold-out data. We used the method to quantify participants' dwell time on a tablet during the outdoor user test of a mobile augmented reality application for biodiversity education. We discuss the benefits and limitations of our approach and its potential to be applied to other contexts.

Needs analysis study was conducted to see the need for the development of pedagogy digitization mobile applications for Primary School Visual Art Education. Pedagogy digitization based on Information and Communication Technology as a medium for delivering digital learning. The digitization of pedagogy is in line with the development of the current era of globalization of education in line with Industrial Revolution 5.0. The learning medium is based on mobile applications that can spark students' interest in teaching and learning by applying interactive multimedia elements in the delivery of learning materials. The purpose of this study is to analyze the need to develop pedagogical digitization mobile applications for the subject of Visual Arts Education in Primary Schools. This is in the form of a quantitative study using a questionnaire instrument. The respondents of the study consisted of 300 Visual Arts Education teachers who teach in primary schools. The data obtained was analyzed descriptively using SPSS software to measure the need for the development of mobile pedagogy digitization from the perspective of knowledge level, the level of frequency, the level of skill and the level of need. The results of data analysis show a high interpretation of the need for the development of a mobile pedagogical digitization application for Primary School Visual Arts Education to meet the challenges of the digitalization era of education. The impact of the study shows that the digitization of mobile pedagogy integrated with technology for the subject of Visual Art Education in Primary School can have a good impact on students and teachers.

Using mobile technologies in distance learning: A Scoping Review

The technical capabilities of mobile devices today make it possible to use them in the educational process. High-speed Internet and the capabilities of mobile applications allow students to have access to the necessary information at a convenient time for them. The purpose of the systematic review was the analysis and synthesis of publications on the topic of using mobile learning. In the course of the work, 34 publications of original research were analyzed, which were selected according to the requirements for narrative reviews. The search for sources for the review was carried out on the Scopus and Web of Science platforms, and specific keywords were used: mobile learning, "m-learning", "higher education", "on-site learning". For review, we selected only articles from 2019-2024. In this way, we got acquainted with the issues of introducing mobile learning into the educational process today. According to the results: the issue of the impact of mobile learning was studied by scientists most often and accounted for 43% of the studied literature sources. The issue of students' perception of mobile learning in the publications we studied accounted for 23%, in 19% the goals that were set during the implementation of mobile learning were studied. In 10.5%, experts determined the factors that affect the success of mobile learning, and 5% of the publications contained information about the devices that are used when using mobile educational applications. To systematize the studied literature, we used the program PRISMA Conclusions. The use of mobile learning improves academic success, reduces anxiety and cognitive load, improves motivation and satisfaction with learning.

A mobile application for postoperative education of caregivers of children with congenital hypospadias: Requirement analysis.

Hypospadias, a congenital anomaly, can have long-term effects on sexual, urinary, and reproductive functions, making proper postoperative care essential for desirable outcomes, which could be facilitated through a mobile application for diseases with long-term complications. The aim of this study was to investigate the data and functional requirements or minimum data set of a postoperative education mobile application for caregivers of children with hypospadias. A literature review of papers published until April 2023 using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement was conducted to determine the data and functional requirements of a mobile application that provides postoperative education to caregivers of children with congenital hypospadias. Based on the results, a questionnaire was prepared, and its content validity and reliability were evaluated by CVI and CVR. Additionally, data was examined by 30 residents, specialists, and subspecialists in pediatric surgery using the Delphi approach. The study identified 28 data elements in three main categories: demographic data, clinical data, and application function. Functional requirements of the mobile application were suggested for use in designing the application. Also, the most critical data elements included the definition of disease, the importance of treatment, surgical preparation, bandage, hygiene, symptoms and infection, bleeding, and emergency condition. The study will pave the way for developing postoperative educational applications for caregivers of children with congenital hypospadias. M-Health app developers and clinician specialists can utilize these findings to design practical applications that assist caregivers in managing the care of hypospadias patients.

The Impact of Mobile Applications on Quran Education: A Survey of Student Performance and Satisfaction

Mobile applications have emerged as innovative tools in Quranic education, presenting opportunities to enhance learning experiences and engage students effectively. This study aims to assess the impact of mobile applications on Quranic education through a comprehensive survey-based investigation. The research method involved designing a structured questionnaire to gather data on various dimensions, including application usage patterns, effectiveness ratings, contributions to educational improvement, perceived impacts on students' understanding and retention of Quranic knowledge, enhancement of student performance, and comparisons between traditional and mobile application-based learning methods. The population for this study consisted of students enrolled in online university programs with a focus on Quranic education, with a sample size of 60 respondents contributing valuable insights. Quantitative data analysis encompassed descriptive statistics and inferential methods, enabling a thorough examination of survey responses and relationships between variables. The findings reveal diverse usage patterns of Quranic education applications, with respondents attributing significant value to mobile applications in enhancing Quranic education. Positive perceptions regarding the effectiveness of mobile applications in improving student performance and understanding of Quranic knowledge were prevalent among participants. Additionally, a clear preference for mobile application-based learning emerged over traditional methods. The study underscores the importance of leveraging mobile technology to enrich Quranic education and highlights avenues for future research in this domain. Overall, the research contributes to advancing knowledge on the role of mobile applications in Quranic education and informs pedagogical practices in digital learning environments.

Web-based applications in higher education: revolutionising language learning in the digital age

This research article aimed to examine the utilisation of web applications in higher education, specifically focusing on their presentation and usage. Methodology: a mixed approach was used in the study. The results showed that by analysing how these applications are used and discussing user perspectives, the study shed light on the interplay between technical functionality and social engagement in information and communication technologies. Students in higher education view educational web applications as supplementary resources, utilising them for tasks such as translation and pronunciation practice. It can be concluded that the active and productive use of educational mobile applications by students in Ukraine has notably increased, particularly in the context of war. The key benefits reported by students included the accessibility and convenience of web-based educational tools. These applications serve as both learning aids and motivational tools, addressing challenges such as remote learning and limited English-language materials. The widespread use of web applications during times of war has proven instrumental in maintaining educational access and quality in Ukraine.

An experimental study on the influence of instructional mobile applications in enhancing listening comprehension of rural students in India

IntroductionMobile learning (M-learning) is integral to language education, offering accessibility, portability, and diverse resources. It offers real-life language use with synchronous learning, flexibility, and an opportunity to engage with the global community. It allows learners to practice language skills from anywhere. This study aims to evaluate linguistic instructional mobile applications' effectiveness on listening comprehension among Indian rural students.MethodsPedagogic mobile applications were employed in an experimental study with 149 tertiary-level students from rural colleges in Tamil Nadu, India. Participants were divided into control (n = 75) and experimental (n = 74) groups. Pre and post-tests assessed listening comprehension levels, considering demographic variables. Different types of audio files were used in the intervention to improve the listening skills of the experimental group.ResultsStatistical analyses, including paired t-tests, independent t-tests, and ANOVA, revealed significant improvement in listening skills for the experimental group. Gender, locality, and parental income were considered as significant variables, showing that students from diverse backgrounds benefited from mobile applications.DiscussionThe results indicate that M-learning effectively aids rural students in overcoming language barriers, emphasizing the potential of mobile applications in language education.
