Design of the Ladder Multi-slot Fractal Split Growth Array Antenna

According to the performance requirements of the ultra-wideband multi-band compatible antennas for microwave band multi-network integration systems, the present paper originally combines the structure of ladder multi-slot, “Embedded” slot fractal iteration and the split growth array, designs a ladder multi-slot fractal split growth array antenna. The result of test indicates that this antenna can completely cover all working frequency bands of the mobile communication system, the frequency bands of the radio frequency identification system, the frequency band of the ultra-wideband system and the frequency band of the mobile digital TV system. With the advantages of small size, high radiation intensity and stable radiation characteristics, it can be applied to large-scale applications in the multi-network system of microwave frequency band.

Design of the Tree Growth Array Ultra Wideband Antenna

According to the performance requirements of the antenna for multi-network wireless communication terminal equipment, the present paper originally combines the structure of inductive multi-line antenna with the tree growth array, designs a tree growth array ultra-wideband antenna, and we also complete the production and the test of antenna samples. The measured results show that the antenna has stable ultra-wideband performance and can work in mobile communication systems, radio frequency identification systems, ultra-wideband communication systems and mobile digital TV systems at the same time. It has excellent compatibility and it is also a performance microwave frequency band multi-network and one terminal device antenna.

Mobile Digital TV Induction Array Four Helix Antenna

According to the performance requirements of the mobile digital TV system, the present paper originally combines polygonal four helix antenna, induction array antenna, dielectric constant gradient film, graphene conductive ink and nano silver conductive ink, designed a mobile digital TV inductive array four helix antenna. The result of test indicates that this antenna has completely covered the frequency band of the mobile digital TV system. This antenna has strong corrosion resistance and damage resistance, stable physical and mechanical performance and radiation performance, small size, thin thickness and large working bandwidth, so it has broad application prospects.

Design of the Photonic Crystal Slot Fractal Array Ultra Wideband Antenna

According to the performance requirements of the multi band compatible antennas for the mobile communication system, the radio frequency identification system, the ultra wideband system and the mobile digital TV system, the present paper originally combined photonic crystal structure, embedded slot fractal, rectangular array antenna, relative dielectric constant gradual thin film, potassium tantalum niobate thin film, Fe-based nanocrystalline alloy coating and graphene conductive ink, and designed a photonic crystal slot fractal array ultra wideband antenna. The result of test indicates that this antenna has strong anti-EMI capability, large performance redundancy and ultra wideband operation capability. This antenna completely covered all working frequency bands of the second generation to the fifth generation mobile communication, the frequency bands of the radio frequency identification system, the frequency band of the ultra wideband system, and the frequency band of the mobile digital TV system. This antenna has small size, high radiation intensity, stable and reliable operation performance; it is a microwave band multi network integration antenna with excellent performance.

Gradual Dielectric Constant Induction Array Fractal Antenna Used for Mobile Digital TV System

According to the requirements of the mobile digital TV system, the present paper creatively combined cross fractal antenna, induction array antenna, gradual dielectric constant film, graphene conductive ink and nano silver conductive ink, designed a gradual dielectric constant induction array fractal antenna used for mobile digital TV system. The result of test indicates that this antenna completely covered the working frequency band of the mobile digital TV system. This antenna has the advantages of small size, wide bandwidth and more redundant performance, and it has stable radiation performance and excellent physical and mechanical performance. This antenna can ensure the good transmission quality of wireless signal in mobile digital TV system in various harsh electromagnetic environments.

Design of the Gradual Patch Spiral Dipole Complementary Gap Composite Ultra Wideband Antenna

According to the performance requirements of the multi band compatible antennas for microwave frequency band multi network integration system, the present paper originally combines gradual patch spiral dipole antenna, complementary gap antenna, polyethylene terephthalate film, ceramics thin slice and ferrite coating, designed a gradual patch spiral dipole complementary gap composite ultra wideband antenna. The result of test indicates that this antenna has a better anti-jamming ability. When the antenna is placed near metal objects and various microwave signal sources, the radiation performance of the antenna is almost unaffected and the antenna can work normally. This antenna completely covered all working frequency bands of the second generation to the fifth generation mobile communication, the frequency bands of the radio frequency identification system, the frequency band of the ultra wideband system, and the frequency band of the mobile digital TV system. This antenna has high radiation intensity and large performance redundancy, so it has broad application prospects.

A UHF CMOS Variable Gain LNA with Wideband Input Impedance Matching and GSM Interoperability

A UHF CMOS variable gain low-noise amplifier (LNA) is designed for mobile digital TV tuners. The proposed LNA adopts a feedback topology to cover a wide frequency range from 474 to 868 MHz, and it supports the notch filter function for the interoperability with the GSM terminal. In order to handle harmonic distortion by strong interferers, the gain of the proposed LNA is step-controlled while keeping almost the same input impedance. The proposed LNA is implemented in a 0.11 mm CMOS process and consumes 6 mA at a 1.5 V supply voltage. In the measurement, it shows the power gain of greater than 16 dB, NF of less than 1.7 dB, and IIP3 of greater than -1.7 dBm for the UHF band.

高兼容性分形阵列仿生天线设计

本文针对移动通信系统、射频识别系统、超宽带系统、移动数字电视系统对天线的性能要求，创造性的将蝶形仿生天线与希尔伯特分形阵列相结合，设计了一款高兼容性分形阵列仿生天线，制作了天线样品并测试了天线的辐射特性。测试结果表明，该款天线完全覆盖了第二代至第五代移动通信所有工作频段、射频识别系统频段、超宽带系统频段和移动数字电视系统频段。使用该天线的智能终端将兼具手机通信、射频卡读写、超宽带传输和移动数字电视等多种功能，该天线有较大的应用潜力。 According to the requirements of the mobile communication system, radio frequency identifica-tion system, ultra wideband system and the mobile digital TV system to the antenna’s perfor-mance, the present paper originally combined butterfly shaped bionic antenna and Hilbert fractal array, designed a high compatibility fractal array bionic antenna, fabricated the antenna sample and tested the radiation characteristics of the antenna. The result of test indicate that this antenna completely covered all working frequency bands of the second generation to the fifth generation mobile communication, the frequency bands of the radio frequency identification system, the frequency band of ultra wideband system, and the frequency band of the mobile digital TV system. The smart terminal using this antenna will have many functions, such as mobile communication, radio frequency card read and write, ultra wideband transmission, mobile digital TV and so on, and this antenna has great potential for application.

A 85-mW Multistandard Multiband CMOS Mobile TV Tuner for DVB-H/T, T-DMB, and ISDB-T Applications with FM Reception

A fully integrated multistandard multiband CMOS mobile TV tuner with small silicon area and low power consumption is proposed for receiving multiple mobile digital TV signals and FM signal. In order to reduce the silicon area of the multistandard multiband receiver, other RF front-end circuits except LNAs are shared and a local oscillator (LO) signal generation architecture with a single VCO for a frequency synthesizer is proposed. To reduce the low frequency noise and the power consumption, a vertical NPN BJT is used in an analog baseband circuits. The RF tuner IC is implemented in a 0.18-mm CMOS technology. The RF tuner IC satisfies all specifications for DVB-H/T, T-DMB, and ISDB-T with a sufficient margin and a successful demonstration has been carried out for DVB-H/T, T- DMB, and ISDB-T with a digital demodulator.

Temporal video transcoding from H.264/AVC-to-SVC for digital TV broadcasting

Mobile digital TV environments demand flexible video compression like scalable video coding (SVC) because of varying bandwidths and devices. Since existing infrastructures highly rely on H.264/AVC video compression, network providers could adapt the current H.264/AVC encoded video to SVC. This adaptation needs to be done efficiently to reduce processing power and operational cost. This paper proposes two techniques to convert an H.264/AVC bitstream in Baseline (P-pictures based) and Main Profile (B-pictures based) without scalability to a scalable bitstream with temporal scalability as part of a framework for low-complexity video adaptation for digital TV broadcasting. Our approaches are based on accelerating the interprediction, focusing on reducing the coding complexity of mode decision and motion estimation tasks of the encoder stage by using information available after the H.264/AVC decoding stage. The results show that when our techniques are applied, the complexity is reduced by 98 % while maintaining coding efficiency.

Preferences and Concerns Regarding Mobile Digital TV in Brazil

In this paper it is listed some findings of a research conducted in Brazil that tried to identify the preferences, constrains and concerns in real life use of a mobile Digital TV (DTV). The research was conducted in the beginning of 2014, when mobile digital service were already consolidated, in technological terms, but with a lack of adoption by the mobile market. To achieve the research objective, it was chosen two research techniques: Diary of Usage and a usability testing.

Folding method for bandwidth and directivity enhancement of meandered loop ultra‐high frequency antenna for heart failure detection system

A wideband antenna with unidirectional radiation is designed for lower ultra-high frequency (UHF) band, which is utilised in medical diagnostic systems, in addition to telecommunications, such as UHF television channels, WiMax, cognitive radio, radio frequency identification, mobile digital TV and CDMA/GSM800. In medical imaging, there are additional antenna design requirements, such as compact size, wide operating bandwidth and unidirectional radiation. A combination of dual monopole feeding, meandering and folding techniques is used to realise the required frequency band and directivity for the antenna, while reducing its size. The final design has the compact size of 0.23λ × 0.08λ × 0.08λ (λ is the wavelength of the lowest measured operating frequency of the antenna), a wide measured operating bandwidth of 50% (590–985 MHz), a peak gain of 3.6 dBi and a measured efficiency of more than 89% over the band of operation. The designed antenna is then used with a compact microwave transceiver, and proper data acquisition and processing algorithms to build a system for the early detection of congestive heart failure. The system is tested using a realistic artificial human torso.

Semi-Automated Mobile TV Service Generation

Mobile Digital TV (MDTV), the hybrid of Digital Television (DTV) and mobile devices (such as mobile phones), has introduced a new way for people to watch DTV and has brought new opportunities for development in the DTV industry. Nowadays, the development of the next generation MDTV service has progressed in terms of both hardware layers and software, with interactive services becoming one of the future trends. However, current MDTV interactive service generation process relies too much on commercial solutions, resulting in most parts of the process being proprietary. In addition, this has increased the technical demands for developers and the cost of producing and maintaining MDTV services. In light of the aforementioned situation, this paper proposes an innovative MDTV service generation solution, which introduces a semi-automatic creation mechanism to facilitate a less technical and more efficient interactive service creation process. By employing open-standard technologies including XHTML and Java ME for the service presentation the proposed work benefits are twofold. Firstly it helps in reducing the technical demands of MDTV service production for service creators. Secondly it improves the inter-compatibility of the created service application amongst different MDTV standards. Initial test results indicate that the proposed solution allows for a faster and more effective MDTV interactive service generation.

Limits to the regulatory state in the rule-making of digital convergence: a case study of mobile TV standards governance in the European Union and China

This paper addresses limitations of the regulatory approach to standardisation of infrastructural information and communication technology (ICT) in the European Union and China. Specifically, by analysing the governance of digital mobile TV in the each policy, the paper discusses to what degree respectively the European Commission’s ‘New Approach’ and the Standardization Administration of China’s increasingly market-oriented standardisation process, after accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), are able to cope with issues specific to technological convergence.

Path Loss Prediction for Mobile Digital TV Propagation Under Viaduct

By the end of 2009, the service for in-vehicle mobile digital TV has been successively carried out in many cities around the world. Viaducts over roads are common in urban areas. In this paper, a 3-dimension six-ray tracing model reveals the fading law of UHF wave for in-vehicle digital TV system under the impact from viaducts, subject to transmitting antenna being higher than viaduct deck. The model takes into account the six rays that undergo line-of-sight (or viaduct transmission) propagation, ground reflection, as well as edge diffraction. In order to obtain more accurate knowledge of path loss law in an actual moving TV system, the 90th percentile of path loss values within the space 10 m have been analyzed. It has been illustrated that factors that influence path loss law include wave polarization, height of two antennas and the horizontal distance between transmitting antenna and viaduct deck axis. The path loss law predicted by the six-ray model shows a reasonable match with measurement results which have a great disparity in those estimated by the popular used propagation models.

A Single-Chip RF Tuner/OFDM Demodulator for Mobile Digital TV Application

This paper presents a single-chip RF tuner/OFDM demodulator for a mobile digital TV application called “1-segment broadcasting.” To achieve required performances for the single-chip receiver, a tunable technique for a low-noise amplifier (LNA) and spurious suppression techniques are proposed in this paper. Firstly, to receive all channels from 470MHz to 770MHz and to relax distortion characteristics of following circuit blocks such as an RF variable-gain amplifier and a mixer, a tunable technique for the LNA is proposed. Then, to improve the sensitivity, spurious signal suppression techniques are also proposed. The single-chip receiver using the proposed techniques is fabricated in 90nm CMOS technology and total die size is 3.26mm × 3.26mm. Using the tunable LNA and suppressing undesired spurious signals, the sensitivities of less than -98.6dBm are achieved for all the channels.

Development of ATSC-MH receiver for mobile digital TV services

ATSC-MH is an emerging standard for mobile digital TV services in the U.S. From broadcaster's point of view, core competitive advantages that broadcasters have relative to the other technologies for enabling mobile broadcast TV services include substantially lower capital requirements, as well as low cost and routine access to broadcast content. From customer's point of view, on the other hand, they can enjoy information rich services in mobile environment because ATSC-MH incorporates various technologies that have proven successful in other mobile broadcast TV standards. In this paper, therefore, we introduce an implementation of ATSC-MH receiver, especially for mobile handsets. The proposed solution is in full support of the ATSC-MH signaling system that uses OMA-BCAST SG in combination with the signaling information embedded in the ATSC-MH transport streams.

Propagation model for mobile digital TV coverage under viaduct

[1] Viaducts over roads are common in many cities. In this paper, a three-dimensional multiray tracing model for in-vehicle mobile digital TV was used to explore the propagation properties of ultrahigh frequency waves under viaducts, subject to the transmitting antenna being higher than viaduct deck. The model is based on geometrical optics, physical optics, geometrical theories of diffraction, and especially the uniform theory of diffraction. The model takes into account direct propagation, ground reflection, transmission, as well as wedge diffraction to reveal the law of signal path gain under viaducts. Validation results show good agreement between calculated and measured data. The prediction for linearly, especially vertically polarized wave propagation provided by a six-ray model may be more helpful than that provided by a four-ray model.

Power, interface, and integration: handset chipset design issues

In this work, we address key design aspects of mobile wireless terminal chipsets with practical examples. Significant expansions in capability, in conjunction with market demands for compactness, reasonable price and longer battery life, place substantial pressure on handset component technologies. To achieve these mutually conflicting goals with available implementation technologies, specialized design skills are necessary for power saving, chip-to-chip interface and subsystem integration in mobile phone chipsets. The inter-related design and verification issues are discussed with lessons learned from our professional experiences in designing third-generation cellular modems, mobile digital TV, and mobile WiMax system-on-a-chip development.
