Eighteen species of mosses are reported for the first time from mainland China, including Bryocrumia andersonii, a species heretofore known only from eastern North America. In 1984 He, Su, and Redfearn participated in a Sino-American botanical expedition to Yunnan Province where they collected over 2,300 specimens of bryophytes. Most of these came from Cang Shan Mountain Range west of Dali County. In 19861987 Wu and Redfearn participated in another botanical expedition, to Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. While the 1984 expedition collected both vascular plants and bryophytes, the 1986-1987 expedition collected only bryophytes. Other bryologists participating in the second expedition included J.-S. Lou and M.-Z. Wang from the Institute of Botany in Beijing, and Marshall Crosby and Robert Magill from the Missouri Botanical Garden. Although less than half of the collections from these expeditions have been studied, a significant number of interesting taxa have already been discovered that are not included in the Catalog of the Mosses of China (Redfearn & Wu 1986). Since it may be some time before all the collections are cataloged and examined, it seems appropriate that the new records be reported now. Some records come from earlier, unidentified collections made in Xishuangbanna by W.-X. Hsu. BRYOCRUMIA ANDERSONII (Bartr.) Anderson.-YUNNAN PROV. Yangbi Co.: On boulders, in broadleaf evergreen forest on steep slope; west slope of Diancang Shan mountain range, vicinity of Xueshanhe above the village of Zhongshan, 25.430N, 100.020E, ca. 2,300 m, Redfearn, Su & He 278 (CINC, DUKE, FH, KUN, MICH, MO, NY, PE, SMS), determined by S. He, duplicate examined by L. E. Anderson; 647 (DUKE, HIRO, KUN, MO, PE, SMS), 971 (CANM, CAS, DUKE, FA, H, MO, NAN, NY, PC, SMS, UT). Like the North American collections of this species, no sporophytes or inflorescences are present. Recently Buck (1987) suggested that this species may be the same as Bryocrumia vivicolor (Broth. & Dix.) Buck from southern India. Bryocrumia andersonii may be added to the list of significant disjunctions between eastern North America and eastern Asia. ENTODONTOPSIS PYGMEA (Par. & Broth.) Buck & Ireland.-YUNNAN PROV.
