Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-Adolescent-Restructured Form (MMPI-A-RF) characteristics of ADHD in a Korean psychiatric sample.

Global rates of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have risen. In Korea, ADHD is associated with functional impairments and comorbidity with other psychological disorders. This study examined the correlates of ADHD in a psychiatric sample of Korean adolescents on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-Adolescent-Restructured Form (MMPI-A-RF). In a clinical sample of 247 adolescents, MMPI-A-RF scores from 46 patients diagnosed with ADHD were compared to the remainder of the clinical sample and to the Korean MMPI-A-RF norms. Results demonstrated significantly different scores for the ADHD group on scales indicating externalizing concerns and behavior dysfunction compared with the clinical group with other disorders and to a normative sample. Notable differences were also observed between clinical groups on scales reflecting interpersonal functioning. Relative risk ratio analyses demonstrated that an MMPI-A-RF T-score of 55 was generally most effective for predicting risk for an ADHD diagnosis in the clinical sample.

Measurement of Eating Pathology Using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3)

Eating disorders are prevalent among college student populations. Although previous iterations of the instrument did not include specific measurement of eating pathology, the Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory-3 (MMPI-3) now includes a specific scale (i.e., Eating Concerns [EAT]) to assess problematic eating behaviors. The current study examined the MMPI-3 assessment of eating pathology among 249 undergraduate women. A pattern emerged where symptoms of internalizing psychopathology on the MMPI-3 were generally associated with symptoms of eating disorder. However, the newly included EAT scale demonstrated the strongest associations with most areas of eating dysfunction. Further, hierarchical regression analyses suggested that the EAT scale added substantial incremental predictive utility (up to 23%) over other MMPI-3 scales combined in assessing eating pathology. Classification accuracy statistics yielded high sensitivity and specificity coefficients when predicting eating disorder risk at an EAT scale score cutoff of 75 T or higher. These findings support the use of the MMPI-3 in assessing eating pathology in college women, although its performance with men and with women not of college age remains to be studied.

Comparative MMPI-2 Norms between Free and United Methodist, Catholic Priest, Episcopal, and Presbyterian Ministry Candidates

The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2) is often utilized to assess the suitability of ordination candidates by a religious organization. Published MMPI-2 scale scores for Roman Catholic priest, Episcopal, Presbyterians, and United Methodist ministry samples exist. However, previous research has not provided MMPI-2 scale scores for Free Methodist ordination candidates and has not provided a statistical comparison of scale scores between religious groups. The this study reports on MMPI-2 scale scores for Free Methodist ordination candidates and compares this group’s scores to Roman Catholic priests, Episcopal and Presbyterian ordination candidates, and a United Methodist sample. We found statistically significant differences between Free Methodist and Catholic Priests, Episcopal, Presbyterian ordination candidates on MMPI-2 Hs, Pd, Pt, and Sc scales and L, Pd, Mf, Pa, Pt, Sc, and Ma differences between Free and United Methodist groups. These results seem to indicate that Free Methodist candidates have fewer non-organic health concerns, less obsessive thoughts, positive social relationships, and more readily submit to authority when contracted with other comparative ordination candidates or ministry sample.

DRUGS USE HABITS AND PERSONALITY TRAITS OF SYNTHETIC DRUGS USERS: A DESCRIPTIVE CROSS - SECTIONAL STUDY

Background and objectives: Several studies in the world showed that distinctive personality traits linked to an increased risk of substance abuse than the general population. In addition, personality also played an important role in treatment outcome in patients with substance use disorders. Objectives: 1. To describe drugs use habits of synthetic drugs users. 2. To investigate personality traits by Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - 2 in the participants. Subjects and methods: This is a descriptive cross - sectional study on 40 inpatients with using synthetic drugs at the Department of Mental Health, Hue Central Hospital and Psychiatric Hospital. Using a designed questionnaire to assess synthetic drug use habits in the participants. Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory – 2 (MMPI -2) was used to investigate personality in the subjects. Using ICD – 10 diagnostic criteria to identify mental and behavioral disorders due to drug use. Results: The meanage of first drug use in the participants was 26.6 ± 5.9 years old. 85% of patients used multiple drugs, 82.5% of patients used drugs from 2 to 5 times per a week and 82.5% of patients used drugs at different locations. There were 37.5% of patients with harmful or dependent alcohol use, and 30 patients, accounting for 75%, were smokers.The personality traits in the participants were paranoia personality trait (42.5%), schizophrenic personality trait (37.5%), hypochondriasis personality trait (32.5%), psychasthenia personality trait (27.5%), deviant personality (25%), hypomanic personality (20%), hysterical personality 15%, depressive personality trait (2.5%). There were no cases of gender deviation and social introvert personality. Most of the patients had 2 or more personality disorder traits (72.5%).There were 3 patients accounting for 7.5% without any personality disorder traits. Conclusion: synthetic drug users often used multiple drugs, several times per a week and in different locations. schizophrenic and paranoia personality traits account for the highest rate in the participants. Investigation of the psychological disorders of the drivers admitted to maxillofacial surgery ward of Bahonar hospital in Kerman, Iran, in 2016

Background and objectives: Despite using various devices to improve the safety of motor vehicles, traffic accidents are still among the leading causes of maxillofacial injuries. Understanding the etiology and mechanisms of these injuries may be helpful in trauma prevention. The present study is aimed to investigate the psychological disorders in drivers admitted to the maxillofacial surgery ward. Materials and Methods: The present study is a case-control study in which 120 patients admitted to the maxillofacial ward of Bahonar Hospital in Kerman from June 2016 to Aguste 2016 were investigated. The case group included 60 drivers admitted to the ward due to maxillofacial injury, and the control group included 60 non-drivers (driver assistant or pedestrian) admitted to the ward. A random convenient sampling method was used. Patients were asked to carefully complete Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory -71 (MMPI-71) scale. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS software. Results: Mean age of participants in the case and control groups were 25.83 + 4.08 and 24.95 + 4.40 years, respectively, which showed no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). Differing associations between measures of somatic symptom reporting, personality, and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI)

Objective: Somatic complaints are known to complicate recovery after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), but the construct is poorly understood due to evolving definitions of associated disorders and uncertainty related to its position within the broader construct network of psychopathology. Methods: To better understand measures of somatic symptom reporting widely used with mTBI patients, we examined relationships between the Brief Symptom Inventory-18 Somatization (SOM) scale, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form Somatic Complaints (RC1) scale, other measures of psychological and personality functioning, and mTBI in both athlete concussion (n = 100) and civilian trauma (n = 75 mTBI, n = 79 orthopedic injury) samples. Results: The association between post-injury SOM and RC1 was moderate (r=.37–.46) and similar to associations between these inventories and depression and anxiety symptoms. In civilians with mTBI, RC1 was more strongly associated with diverse personality dimensions than SOM. mTBI athletes reported increases in somatic symptoms from pre- to post-injury, with larger group effect sizes on SOM (ηp2 = 0.34, p < .001) than RC1 (ηp2 = 0.09, p = .003). Civilian mTBI patients showed a trend for somewhat higher post-injury RC1 scores than orthopedic trauma controls (ηp2 = 0.02, p = .068). Conclusions: Findings add to the current knowledge of the influence of somatic complaints in mTBI. BSI-18 SOM and MMPI-2-RF RC1 are not interchangeable, as they are only modestly correlated and demonstrate differing associations with other clinical outcomes and mTBI.

Physiological Predictors of Mental Disorders Among Police Officers in Indonesia.

Police officers may be at a higher risk of suffering from mental disorders (MDs) compared with other occupations. This study aimed to examine the physiological predictors of MDs among police officers in Indonesia. The mental health status of each participant was examined using a standardized Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) tool and underwent several laboratory examinations including hematology, urine, serology, and electrocardiogram tests. A logistic regression was performed to calculate the odds ratio. Of the 4590 participants, 2.14% were diagnosed with MDs. The study found 19 physiological variables are potential predictors of MDs. In multivariate analysis adjusted for body mass index, sex, and age, the concentration of ketones, protein, and specific gravity in urine and the amount of lymphocyte in the blood are among important predictors of MDs. This suggests that carefully examining the results of urinalysis and hematology tests can help us detect early cases of MDs among police officers.

Childhood Obesity and Maternal Personality Traits: A New Point of View on Obesity Behavioural Aspects

The epidemic spread of childhood obesity in Western society has interested many researchers, who agree in defining it as a multifactorial disease in which not only eating habits and sedentary lifestyle play a role, but also genetic predisposition. The aim of this study was to analyze the personality profile of a group of mothers of children with obesity and to compare this profile to that of a group of mothers of children without obesity. A total of 258 mothers participated in the study (126 mothers of children with obesity and 132 mothers of children without obesity). Weight and height were measured and the body mass index was calculated. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory second edition (MMPI-2), evaluating personality and psychological disorders, was used to evaluate the personality profile. The results suggested that mothers of children with obesity score higher than the mothers of children without obesity in all MMPI-2 subscales. In most of these subscales, the differences between the two groups of mothers were statistically significant and with a medium to high effect size. These data suggest a new perspective on childhood obesity, identifying it as a multifactorial pathology that requires a multimodal and multidisciplinary approach that also takes care of caregivers to ensure optimal therapeutic efficacy.

Patient Factors Influencing Outpatient Retention in Patients with Affective and Anxiety Disorders: A Retrospective Study.

ObjectiveThe aim of the present study is to identify the factors that affect retention in outpatients with psychiatric disorders as indicators of treatment adherence, including Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) scores.MethodsThe medical records of 146 patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, or anxiety disorder for at least 10 years and discharged were retrospectively reviewed in the present study. The subjects were categorized based on the duration of outpatient treatment as < 6 months (L6) or ≥ 6 months (M6) groups and reclassified as < 36 months (L36) and ≥ 36 months (M36) groups. The demographic, clinical, and personality characteristics of the groups were compared.ResultsPatients in M6 and M36 groups were more likely to have a higher educational level compared with those in the L6 and L36 groups, respectively. Patients in the M6 group showed significantly lower hypomania (Ma) scores on the MMPI test than did patients in the L6 group.ConclusionThe association between high Ma score on the MMPI test and early discontinuation of treatment suggests that impulsivity, hostility, and disinhibition confer higher risk of nonadherence.

A-138 The Correlation between Inattentiveness and Depression in an Adult Population Sample

Abstract Objective To test if there is a correlation between the inattentive domain of the Conners Continuous Performance Task 3rd Edition (CPT-3) and depression scale of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2). Method Adult mixed psychiatric clinical sample was derived from a large de-identified database through a SPSS descriptive statistics analysis. Participants (n = 256) were a diverse distribution of race (62.1%Caucasian,16%Latinx,12.9%African American, and 9%Other), gender (60.5%female, 39.5%male), age (27.25-years average), and education (16-years average). Each participant was administered the Conners CPT-3 to evaluate the inattentive domain which consisted of Detectability, Omissions, Commission, Hit-Reaction-Time (HRT), HRT-Standard-Deviation, and Variability; and the MMPI-2. A bivariate correlation was run to determine significance. Results The CPT-3 and MMPI-2 were correlated at p &amp;lt; 0.01 significantly on Variability with the K-Scale (r = −1.69) and VRIN-Scale (r = 0.177). They were correlated at p &amp;lt; 0.05 significantly on Variability with the TRIN-Scale (r = 0.126) and 2-Scale (r = 0.152); on HRT-Std-Dev with the TRIN-Scale (r = 0.127) and 1-Scale (r = 0.128); on Omissions with the VRIN-Scale (r = 0.151) and 9-Scale (r==0.126); and on Commissions with the 7-Scale (r = −0.124) and 8-Scale (r = −0.124). Conclusion Mitchell et al. (2013) conducted a study to assess the relationship between ADHD and negative automatic thoughts associated with depression in adults which found that inattentive ADHD significantly associated with negative automatic thoughts. Although the current analysis found some correlation between the measures, there was a lack of significant correlation between inattentiveness and depression. These findings are important as they contradict a criteria for depression. Further research is needed to understand the dynamic between the two measures.

A Comparison of MMPI-2 Profiles Between Parental Alienation Cases and Custody Cases

The present study aimed at understanding the personality features of mothers and fathers engaged in parental alienation—a family dynamic in which one parent behaves in a way that foments a child’s unfounded emotional rejection of the other parent. The process is considered a complex form of child psychological maltreatment, with significant negative consequences. In cases of conflictual separation and divorce, parental alienation can be difficult—yet important—to identify. In this context, use of psychological assessment to understand parents’ personality characteristics may facilitate the early identification of parental alienation and related abuses. A comparative analysis of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 profiles of 41 couples engaged in parental alienation and 39 control couples (i.e., not involved in parental alienation) was used to assess the personality characteristics of mothers and fathers engaged in parental alienation. The results indicated that mothers who were classified as alienating presented a faking-good defensive profile, denied hostile and negative impulses, blamed others for their problems, and displayed excessive sensitivity. On the other side, fathers who were classified as targets of alienating behaviors were adapted to chronic depressive states, social isolation, and interpersonal conflict. The results suggest that the personality profile of parents involved in parental alienation may provide useful insight for custodial cases, prevent further abuse, and contribute to improving psychological and rehabilitative programs. Clinical and forensic implications are discussed.

Gender Differences in Cognitive and Personality Functioning in Patients With Substance Use Disorder

Objectives: Substance abuse is associated with impairments in cognition and many serious physical and behavioral consequences both in men and women. Gender differences, however, are not clear. The aim of this study was to examine gender differences in specific neuropsychological measures and personality variables in a sample of single and polysubstance patients. Methods: A total of 164 hospitalized patients—97 men and 67 women—underwent neuropsychological tests of verbal capacity, attention, speed of processing, perceptual reasoning, memory and learning, executive functioning, and inhibitory capacity. Personality was measured using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory. Associations between neuropsychological measures, personality variables, and gender differences were studied using multiway analysis of covariance controlled for regular substance use in years, onset age of regular substance use, polysubstance use, and education level. Results: After adjustment, all the differences between men and women disappeared in the neuropsychological tests. Men reported higher values of somatisation and emotions of depression and anxiety than women. Men were also more suspicious and elicited more disturbed thinking than women. Conclusions: Contrary to previous studies, women are not more vulnerable to the effects of substance use compared with men. Notably, men are more vulnerable to negative emotions than women.

A safety study of laparoscopic single-anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass with gastric plication (SADI-GP) in the management of morbid obesity

BackgroundBariatric surgery is more effective in the management of morbid obesity and related comorbidities than is conservative therapy. Pylorus-preserving single-anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-SG) is a modified duodenal switch technique. Gastric plication (GP) is an alternate to SG.MethodsMorbidly obese (BMI of > 40, or > 35 in the presence of diabetes or prediabetes) patients were recruited and operated on to perform SADI with GP. Complications related to surgery were recorded to assess the feasibility of the procedure. Weight-loss outcomes were analysed to determine efficacy. Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2 (MMPI-2) was recorded after 1 year of follow-up, and test scales were used to describe physiological phenomena.ResultsSeventeen middle-aged (mean: 40 years) patients were involved in our study; 15 of them were females. The mean duration of surgery was 205 min. There were no complications of conversion, death, bleeding, VTE or 30-day readmission to hospital. We did experience CD4a (pulmonary insufficiency due to chronic lung disease) and a CD3b (anastomosis leakage treated laparoscopically) complications. Vomiting occurred in three cases (CD1). Obesity-related comorbidities showed favourable resolution rates (77.8% for hypertension, 81.2% for dyslipidaemia, 100% for diabetes at the 1-year follow-up). Weight-loss outcomes were favourable (53.20 EWL%, and 35.58 TWL% at 1-year follow-up). Greater weight loss caused significantly higher levels of Depression (t(13.958) = − 2.373; p = 0.00; p < 0.05) and Low Positive Emotions (t(13.301) = − 2.954; p = 0.00; p < 0.05) and Introversion/Low Positive Emotionality (t(13.408) = − 1.914; p = 0.02; p < 0.05) in MMPI-2 data.ConclusionAccording to our safety study, SADI-GP is a promising malabsorptive procedure, but a long-term high-volume case series or a randomised controlled trial is necessary to evaluate complication rates and weight-loss outcomes. Emotional dysregulation is common among bariatric surgery patients according to personality inventory data; therefore, psychological follow-up and psychotherapeutic support are necessary for weight-loss maintenance.

Evaluating the performance of the MMPI-3 over-reporting scales: Sophisticated simulators and the effects of comorbid conditions

Objective We examined the utility of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) to detect feigned over-reporting using a symptom-based coaching simulation design across a control group and three diagnostic conditions: posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), minor traumatic brain injury (mTBI), and comorbid PTSD and mTBI. Method Participants were310 college students who wererandomly assigned to one of the four conditions. For participants in the feigning conditions, they were provided with a descriptionof their respective disorder condition throughout the duration of the session and asked to feign according to their condition while completing the MMPI-3. Results MMPI-3 over-reporting scales perform well at classifying feigning. There is low sensitivity, high specificity, and effect magnitudes are medium to large range (1.12 − 2.47). There are no differences in scales assessing over-reporting between diagnostic conditions with dissimilar symptoms. Conclusions Findings provide initial support for the use of the MMPI-3 overreporting scales for detecting feigned PTSD, mTBI, and comorbid PTSD and mTBI. Further, individuals feigning different disorders, namely PTSD, mTBI, and comorbid PTSD and mTBI, feign predominantly general psychopathological symptoms, making Fp the strongest scale in terms of detecting these feigned disorders. Future research will benefit from establishing relevant diagnostic comparison groups to contrast with this study and utilizing known-group designs withboth PVT and SVT administration.

The Influence of Rehabilitation on Quality of Life in Breast Cancer Survivors: A Clinical Study.

Background: Breast cancer survivors report negative impacts of cancer, augmented by specific vulnerabilities to body changes, negative self-assessment, and quality-of-life concerns. The main objective of our work was to test the effect of a rehabilitation program on breast cancer patients by evaluating the change in their physical well-being during an outpatient rehabilitation setting and, subsequently, in a home rehabilitation setting, considering the individual personality profile. Methods: Patients who underwent total mastectomy with breast prostheses or tissue expanders were enrolled. Outcome assessments (Pain, Quality of Life, Personality traits for the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2) before treatment (T0), at the end of the rehabilitative treatment (T1 = 10 sessions 2/week, one hour/each), and after two months of follow-up (T2) were performed. Results: The data of 38 included patients were analyzed. The quadratic trend of the Visual Analogue Scale can be explained by the fact that patients have a strong reduction in the perceived pain immediately after rehabilitation in the clinic. This reduction remains constant for the home period of the rehabilitation. The personality profiles of all the participants were substantially valid. Only three patients obtained scores higher than 65 points. Conclusions: The study evidenced that in the initial phase of the rehabilitation, psychological traits such as anxiety, depression, and preoccupation could have a strong association especially with the autonomous functions and the perceived physical symptoms. However, during the therapeutic process, this association decreased and these decrements were higher when patients performed their rehabilitation at home, in a more familiar and comfortable setting.

Associations between MMPI-3 scale scores and the DSM-5 personality disorders.

The current study examined associations between Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) scales and self-reported DSM-5 Section II personality disorder (PD) symptoms. A priori hypotheses were generated for which MMPI-3 scales would be most highly associated with each PD. We used a large sample (n = 489) of university students, who completed the MMPI-3 and two established self-report measures of personality disorders. The results were generally consistent with theoretical expectations and previous research utilizing the MMPI-2-RF. Specifically, most hypothesized MMPI-3 scales exhibited meaningful associations with relevant PD variables, although there were some notable exceptions. The regression models revealed significant predictors for each PD which were generally consistent with expectations and previous research. Overall, the MMPI-3 appears well situated to cover a range of DSM-5 Section II PD-related psychopathology, and three of the new MMPI-3 scales appear to have added utility for assessing personality pathology.

The Relationship between Stress, Personality, Dopamine Transporter, and Serotonin Transporter Level with Internet Addiction in Secondary School Students in Padang

BACKGROUND: The unpleasant stress can cause a variety of mental disorder that will lead children to run away from real life and one of the way is using excessive internet. In the past few years, more interested in studying the negative effect of the internet. The development of internet has been very rapid and used to play games and make friendship, but it also has negative impact on people’s lives. Young refers to some of the symptoms of internet addiction that resembles the symptoms of substance addiction, causing physical and psychological problems. Several studies have tried to show a relationship between dopamine and internet addiction by measuring the level of dopamine transporter (DAT). Lee et al. (2008) showed that one homozygous short allele from the serotonin transporter (SERt) gene 5-hydroxytryptamine transporter (5 HTT)-linked polymorphic region is more frequent in excessive internet users. AIM: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between stress, personality, DAT, and SERt level with internet addiction in secondary school students. METHODS: Methods applied in this study were a cross-sectional comparative design conducted in secondary school students in January 2016–March 2017 in Padang. The stress level was assessed using the depression anxiety and stress scale. Personality tests were measured using Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory for Adolescent. Internet addiction was assessed using the Young Internet Addiction Test. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to determine peripheral blood DAT and SERt or 5 HTT levels from the students who were diagnosed with stress. RESULTS: The results showed that personality was negatively associated with internet addiction (P = 0.271). Positive significant relationship of internet addiction was showed by association with levels of DAT (P = 0.001) and SERt (P = 0.001) in blood serum. DAT levels showed high relationship effect of stressed students become addicted to the internet. CONCLUSION: It is suggested that students were addicted to the internet as a coping mechanism against stress. Personality questionnaire tests failed to identify students who became addicted to the internet. The peripheral blood DAT and SERt level was predictive to identify students addicted to internet use. The present study supported the hypothesis that the DAT plays an important role in internet addiction.

Hypochondriasis and Personality Traits of Patients with Chronic Plaque Psoriasis

Background: Plaque psoriasis has been associated with anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation and various personality traits. However, studies on hypochondriasis, i.e. the belief of serious illness despite having no or only mild symptoms, are currently scarce. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess hypochondriasis and personality traits in psoriasis patients using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2). Methods: We conducted an observational study on patients with plaque psoriasis who underwent MMPI-2 testing. Demographic and clinical data, including comorbidities, alcohol consumption, and smoking, were collected. Results: A total of 136 consecutive psoriatic patients were included. The mean age (±SD) was 53.7 (±13.5), mean PASI (Psoriasis Area Severity Index) was 12.4 (±9.9), and mean disease duration was 23.3 (±15.7) years. Pathologically elevated scores in the Hypochondriasis scale were observed in 27.9% of patients. Furthermore, in a few other MMPI-2 scales (Anxiety, Fears and Negative Treatment Indicators) ≥25% of patients obtained pathologically elevated scores. Conversely, the scales that had the highest proportion of low scorers were Ego Strength and Dominance. At regression analysis, higher psoriasis severity and female gender were associated with higher scores in the Hypochondriasis scale (p = 0.03 and 0.001). Finally, 72.8% reported any alcohol consumption and 8.1% heavy alcohol consumption. Conclusion: About one third of patients with psoriasis have high scores in the MMPI-2 hypochondriasis evaluation scale. Poor individual coping resources also appeared to be distinctive psychological features in a significant proportion of psoriatic patients.

Detecting suicidal risk using MMPI-2 based on machine learning algorithm

Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) is a widely used tool for early detection of psychological maladjustment and assessing the level of adaptation for a large group in clinical settings, schools, and corporations. This study aims to evaluate the utility of MMPI-2 in assessing suicidal risk using the results of MMPI-2 and suicidal risk evaluation. A total of 7,824 datasets collected from college students were analyzed. The MMPI-2-Resturcutred Clinical Scales (MMPI-2-RF) and the response results for each question of the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) suicidality module were used. For statistical analysis, random forest and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) techniques were used with suicidal ideation and suicide attempt as dependent variables and 50 MMPI-2 scale scores as predictors. On applying the random forest method to suicidal ideation and suicidal attempts, the accuracy was 92.9% and 95%, respectively, and the Area Under the Curves (AUCs) were 0.844 and 0.851, respectively. When the KNN method was applied, the accuracy was 91.6% and 94.7%, respectively, and the AUCs were 0.722 and 0.639, respectively. The study confirmed that machine learning using MMPI-2 for a large group provides reliable accuracy in classifying and predicting the subject's suicidal ideation and past suicidal attempts.

Incremental Validity of the Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire in the Preemployment Assessment of Police Officer Candidates

Guidelines for screening public safety personnel candidates, including law enforcement positions, incorporate the use of separate psychological tests for assessing normal and abnormal functioning. We evaluated the incremental validity of the Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire (MPQ)—a measure of normal personality traits—beyond the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory–2 Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF), a measure of psychopathology, using a sample of 1,687 candidates for law enforcement positions. They were clinically rated on 10 psychological suitability dimensions. For a subset of those who were subsequently hired as police officers ( n = 397), we also had post-hire outcome data. Using hierarchical nonlinear regression analyses, we found that the MPQ scales incremented the MMPI-2-RF scales in the prediction of 17 of 19 variables in this study. Our results indicate that the MPQ, as a measure of normal personality, provides unique information about psychological suitability and predicts negative post-hire outcomes in police candidates.
