The paper highlights the importance of designing a mine water control system during the feasibility study stage of a proposed large mining project. A review of the analytical techniques available for the prediction of mine water inflow quantities is given. These techniques incorporate idealised conceptual models of shaft, surface and underground excavations. Analytical formulae for predicting mine water inflows are detailed, together with the conditions under which each equation is valid. Numerical applicatons of these models are also included.
