I had the feeling of anger and discouragement after reading the Supplement to the Newsletter of the American Academy of Pediatrics for December 15, 1970, in which the committee chaired by Dr. Lloyd J. Filer, Jr., recommended formula with iron supplement for the first 12 months of life. After reading the comments of the group, one could only wonder if Dr. Filer had worked for a milk company sometime during his pediatric career. A few weeks later, this fear was suddenly reinforced as the representatives of several milk companies brought forth copies of the Newsletter recommending milk the first 12 months of life.
