On the other hand Constructivism which is avant-garde formative movement with Russia revolution, constructed 'sculpture' with the formative principles as tectonic. Tectonic's Formative characteristics can draw a conclusion with of tectonic characteristics of constructivism sculpture, space of logos will be realized through its study. Other hand, The pavilion, as symbol space, can be analyzed by tectonic properties, Pavilion, meaning the space is expressed in a variety of tectonic expression. As tectonic construction, fundamental ideology and symbolization of space is revealed metaphorically and visually.

Life Cycle Environmental Assessment of Temporary Building Constructions

The paper analyses the impact of embodied energy over a building's life cycle as an important factor in construction planning, particularly for temporary structures. In fact, a choice of low-embodied energy construction materials, technological components, and construction systems is essential to guarantee a very high-energy performance of those constructions. Temporary buildings are exempted from the application of the minimum requirements to reduce energy in use as set by the European directive 2010/31/EU due to their short expected service life. Hence, it becomes even more important to consider the impact of their embodied energy and the one of their end of life. Results from a case study, a temporary building designed for Milan Expo 2015, are presented to compare embodied energy of construction materials, including scenarios for their end-of-life, and predicted energy consumption at use stage.

Waterway e sviluppo del territorio: nuova mobilità e turismo sostenibile

In most cases origin of first urban settlements, waterways have been the main source for human life and the tool for the exchange of goods and cultures. Thanks for their crossing the territory, they have always been places of intersection of different aspects of the urban life bringing together environment, planning, architecture, transport but also art, culture, education and tourism. Due to this aspect, waterways have a great potentiality for the development of a territory with regard to both, mobility – of people and goods – and sustainable tourism. Their regeneration allows to recover a role of public space as rural, urban and tourism landscape of great quality; at the same time, as places for tourism, cultural, gastronomic and leisure uses, they generally induce quality of life. After decades of neglect and indifference, a renewed interest toward the valorization of waterways for culture and tourism is emerging in Italy – particularly in the Nord part of the Country – encouraged also by European directives. Even if with a delay comparing to other European Countries that, since many years, are developing different ways of using waterways, Italy is now showing a new sensibility and approach to look at waterways as an important tool for environmentally sustainable development and to reconnect with a forgotten cultural identity. A selection of projects and initiatives are presented, mostly devoted to the re-launch of water transport for leisure activities and to the rediscover of waterways with a ‘slow’ and ‘soft’ approach. The valorization of architecture, nature and local culture and the proposal of alternative itineraries combining different modalities of transportation are the core of North Italian proposals along the rivers Po, Mincio, Adda, Piave, Limena and the canals network of the Venice lagoon. In particular, the project referred to the Po river, includes the navigation for leisure from Locarno, Switzerland, to Venice, through Milan and the Navigli network. This spectacular trip, every two years realized as a demonstration by the promoting bodies, could be a mid-term goal – at least for part of its length – in view of the Milan Expo 2015: an alternative way of transportation and connection and a tool for the discovery of a less known cultural heritage. Furthermore, the Piave river, in the past main way of communication and witness of many event of the First World War, needs now serious interventions to become more accessible and to be protected from energy production uses. Thanks to the applications of innovative technologies and of new sources of energy, waterways can also act as the best laboratory for sustainable development, at urban and environmental scale. Waterways can represents the chance for a new understanding of urban and natural landscape, in the balance between safeguard and innovation.

Learning from Ruhr: spunti di riflessione per i grandi eventi previsti a Milano (e a Torino)

Learning from the Ruhr: ideas for thought on the great events planned in Milan (and in Turin) - The Iba Emscher Park event is examined to assess its legacy, showing how it continued, after its conclusion in 1999, through the Konzept Ruhr project with a strategy for urban and regional development until 2030. It provides many ideas for discussion on the Milan Expo: the geographical and chronological extension of the event with the involvement of regional and inter-regional areas; the synergies between public administrations, businesses, citizens and other stakeholders; the attention to the planning of outdoor spaces and the relationship between landscape and infrastructures. The events planned for the 2015 Milan Expo could extend to include bordering regions, by seeking synergies with initiatives already planned for 2011, such as the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy in Turin and Piedmont

Un'archeologia del futuro urbano: tempo e forma del progetto per i grandi eventi

The conference 20th Century Great Events addressed this subject over two days, by proposing a series of case studies set in a historical perspective. These were then supplemented with an interpretation of the effects of these events on an urban and regional scale. The four geographical contexts of Barcelona, Athens, Switzerland and the Ruhr region were then considered in an attempt to draw provisional conclusions and above all to acquire useful suggestions for the coming Milan Expo. A very interesting picture emerged in which the following factors seemed to be decisive: control of timing, programming and implementation; the implementation of projects capable of producing side-affects on the form of the city and of triggering innovative and widespread processes in planning culture; the desire to create new geographical relations, broadening the scale of plans to include the landscape dimension; the capacity to combine both implementation and legacy management processes which are often awkward after the event.

The prospects for the Milan Expo 2015: a high risk gamble - The great events organised in recent years (Barcelona, Seville, Lisbon, Valencia, Saragossa), as opposed to those in the past, display a growing difficulty in setting an exceptional event within the framework of the urban planning decisions made at the time, so that they contribute to the development of new public works and new buildings capable of enhancing an urban image. The City of Milan has always been criticised for the weakness of its urban development policies and for the freedom allowed for speculative private sector initiatives. It now risks missing out on an opportunity to trigger a virtuous process of urban regeneration.

The sustainability of great events. From the experiences of international cases to programmes for the Milan Expo 2015 - Despite the widespread use of the concept of sustainable development, the great events studied for doctoral theses and those presented at the international conference «20th Century Great Events: Architecture, Planning and Urban Development» often tend to set unsustainable solutions side-by-side with others that are more virtuous. It is a situation seen also in the programmes and projects that have been proposed to-date for the Milan Expo 2015, even if some margins for an increase in the sustainability of the expected side-effects on the city and region can still be identified at the current stage in the planning and design of the final event.

Milano, Forum Expo 2015

- The Forum for debate and observations on the forthcoming Expo in Milan proceeds apace with the publication of talks given at the international convention titled Grandi eventi: effetti territoriali a confronto per una riflessione su Expo Milano 2015 (Major Events: A comparative study of their effects on local areas and communities for a reflection on the Milan Expo 2015). The conference, which took place at the Milan Polytechnic on 24 October 2008 and was promoted by staff and students of the doctoral degree course in ‘Urban and Environmental Planning', sought to assess the possible after-effects of Expo 2015. Several local experts evaluated the results of four similar cases. The first of these were Valencia and Zaragoza in Spain, the former having been the location of three major events which leave speaker Fernando Gaja i Diaz somewhat dumbfounded, while the latter, which played host to Expo 2008, is judged positively by Javier Monclus. We can add to these Turin (Winter Olympics 2006) and Genoa (a number of important events between 1992 and 2004), both of which come in for praise from Chito Guala and Francesco Gastaldi, who underline the positive results of urban regeneration and local upgrading. These considerations provide the basis on which the debate on the opportunities and risks of the Milan Expo can be reopened.
