Biofuels look “much more interesting [now] than when gasoline cost $0.39 per gallon,” says Raul Cano from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif., a convener of the special interest symposium, “Microbial Production of Biofuels: the New Frontier,” during the 108th ASM General meeting, held last June in Boston, Mass. “Bioenergy is a problem that we must solve,” adds symposium participant Arnold Demain from Drew University, Madison, N.J. “There's not a lot of wizardry involved. I see a bright future ahead.”
