Numerical spectral approach for studying activation energy behavior in viscoelastic fluid flow through non-Darcian medium

The work examines the effects of MHD incompressible viscoelastic fluid under nonlinear thermal radiation while flowing in a non-Darcy porous medium. The utilization of the Darcy-Brinkmann-Forchheimer model has thus been implemented in the formulation of the momentum equation. The study posits the existence of a chemical phenomenon which involves elements A and B as two chemical species. The diffusion coefficient of chemical species exhibits inequality when considered for viscoelastic fluid. Numerical solutions are generated using SRM, spectral relaxation technique for governing flow problems. The current algorithm is formulated and implemented using the computational software MATLAB. The results exhibit a considerable degree of agreement with formerly established numerical outcomes within the framework of a specific scenario. The observations from this study provide evidence that chemical species B operates as a catalyst in a subsurface environment that is oriented horizontally. As a result, the connection between the homogeneous-heterogeneous scheme can be observed in the context of isothermal cubic autocatalytic occurrences and processes of the first order, subsequently. The utilization of the heterogeneous reaction parameter offers notable advantages in reducing the concentration of the bulk-fluid while simultaneously enhancing the concentration of the catalyst situated over the surface. The current findings contribute to the exploration of the computational study of diffusivities in MHD viscoelastic fluid flow. Specifically, this research inquires the effects of nonlinear thermal radiation and homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions.

Effect of sinusoidal pressure gradient on MHD flow of viscoelastic fluid in a channel

Unsteady Hydro Magnetic oscillatory flow of incompressible viscoelastic fluid in a channel packed with porous material is investigated under the influence of oscillatory pressure gradient. Moreover, the applied magnetic field of moderate strength interacts with electrically conducting fluid, to generate a resistive volumetric body force. In addition to it, viscoelastic fluidity, characterizing the non-Newtonian behavior in conjunction with permeability of the medium as well as sinusoidal sheared flow due to imposed favorable pressure gradient, contribute to the novelty of the study. The previous work was confined to constant motion of the lower plate but the present work includes the sinusoidal motion of the lower plate in addition to the constant motion. The importance lies with the fact that the coupling effect of sinusoidal fluctuation and viscoelastic fluidity go hard in industrial applications, particularly in process industry. The governing equations characterizing the flow are solved analytically. The striking results of this study are: the formation of inverted boundary layer in case of oscillatory lower plate with moderately escalated time span but such instability leading to flow reversal, does not appear in case of constant motion of the lower plate. Hence, it is recommended that for stability of flow and to avoid flow reversal, higher frequency of oscillation as well as larger time span is not desirable. The elastico-viscosity property reduces the volume flow rate which may be useful to control the efflux and differentiates the state of motion (resulting low skin friction) and state of rest (resulting high skin friction) in respect shearing effects at the bounding surfaces.

Heat and mass transport of MHD viscoelastic fluid flow towards a permeable stretching cylinder

Heat and mass transport of MHD flow of viscoelastic Maxwell fluid due to a stretching cylinder on a porous medium with the impact of curvature parameter, Schmidt number, Deborah number and chemical reaction are investigated. Radiation, MHD, Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects are also considered for modelling. A set of (PDEs) partial differential equations was used to define the mathematical description of the flow. These equations were turned into nonlinear (ODEs) ordinary differential equations via similarity transformations. Since these PDEs are challenging to solve via the analytical method, we compute the solutions using the RK45 technique using inbuilt software bvp4c. This article's critical findings and novelty present the answers for the various physical parameters in two distinct geometries; among them, one represents the cylinder (curvature parameter αc = 1), and other represents the horizontal plate (curvature parameter αc = 0). The Maxwell fluid parameter elevates the temperature and concentration contour for both the plate and cylinder. Further, the velocity of the viscoelastic fluid displays inconsistent behaviour for the Deborah number and curvature parameter. In addition, we compared the acquired numerical result to existing work and discovered that the current numerical results are in remarkable agreement.

EMHD flow of second-grade fluid through a heated permeable disk with space dependent heat source

In this article, von Kárman MHD viscoelastic fluid flow with second-grade model through a heated permeable disk on electric field is examined thoroughly. The effects of viscous dissipation and elasticity on fluid motion around the disk, temperature and space-dependent heat source/sink are also examined. Governing partial differential equations are transmitted into ordinary differential equations with similarity functions. Later, nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations was solved with the help of Galerkin finite element method. Accuracy and validity of the method were noticed by comparing our results with the previous literature. Simulations are performed in order to capture the dynamics of the physical situations against the variation of the pertinent parameters. Nature of heat flux and stresses of the physical parameters are discussed. Physical influence of heat flux, heat transfer is exhibited graphically at the surface of disk and increases when the values of Prandtl number are increased, whereas there is a decreasing trend in the rate of heat transfer when the value of Eckert number is increased.

Slip Effects on Unsteady MHD Free Convective Flow of Rivlin-Ericksen Fluid in the Presence of Heat Source/Sink

In the present work, an investigation on MHD flow of viscoelastic fluid of Rivlin-Ericksen type across a semi-infinite plate in the presence of heat source/sink under free convection is conducted. The plate is moving with constant velocity subjected to periodic suction along with slip conditions. Further, the free stream velocity is taken of oscillatory in nature. The transport equations governing the flow are solved using perturbation analysis. The solutions obtained for the required fields viz. velocity, temperature, and concentration which characterizes the flow are discussed graphically for varying situational parameters appeared in the flow. The presence of heat source/sink in the vicinity of considered fluid has significant effect on the velocity near the plate. Further, the drag at the plate, Nusselt and Sherwood number, are evaluated for varying situational parameters which are compiled in the tabular format.

Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects on MHD flow of viscoelastic fluid over stretching/shrinking sheet in the presence of thermal radiation and chemical reaction

AbstractThe study covers the robust viscoelastic fluid stream across a stretchable surface. The analysis is conducted taking into account Brownian movement, chemical reactions, and thermophoresis. The dominant partial differential equations become regular differential equations. The method used to solve nonlinear systems is homotopy analysis. The solutions are graphically designed to illustrate the impact on speed, temperature, and concentration profiles of different parameters. The Mathematica code contains a graphical representation of the effects of different variables on speed, temperature, and distribution profiles. It is seen that, Fluid speed decreases with increases in K and M. From graphical representation, the friction of the skin on increasing K is seen to decrease. Sherwood number improves and Nusselt reduces with an increase in Nb. It is also mentioned.

Soret, Dufour and radiation effects of a viscoelastic fluid on an exponentially stretching surface using the Catteneo–Christov heat flux model

PurposeIn this paper, we studied the steady flow of a radiative magnetohydrodynamics viscoelastic fluid over an exponentially stretching sheet. This present work incorporated the effects of Soret, Dufour, thermal radiation and chemical reaction.Design/methodology/approachAn appropriate semi-analytical technique called homotopy analysis method (HAM) was used to solve the resulting nonlinear dimensionless boundary value problem, and the method was validated numerically using a finite difference scheme implemented on Maple software.FindingsIt was observed that apart from excellence agreement with the results in literature, the results obtained gave further insights into the behaviour of the system.Originality/valueThe purpose of this research is to investigate heat and mass transfer profiles of a MHD viscoelastic fluid flow over an exponentially stretching sheet in the influence of chemical reaction, thermal radiation and cross-diffusion which are hitherto neglected in previous studies.

Impacts of Newtonian heating, variable fluid properties and Cattaneo–Christov model on MHD stagnation point flow of Walters’ B fluid induced by stretching surface

Numerical treatment for MHD viscoelastic fluid flow with variable fluid properties and viscous dissipation

Numerical and theoretical examinations of the viscous dissipation phenomenon on the viscoelastic fluid flow of type Walters’ liquid B model which is passing over a stretching sheet are described. The significance of both slip phenomenon and magnetic field in stimulating the heat transfer process is the main cause for considering them in this study. On the other hand, to gain high precision in our numerical study, some of fluid properties are assumed to depend on the fluid temperature. Since, both the viscosity and the conductivity of the fluid which are changing with temperature are taken into consideration, therefore, our obtained results are much more reliable than those the similar previous researches. In addition, this described physical problem is governed by three partial differential equations. After introducing suitable dimensionless variables, two differential equations are created: the first is of fourth order, whereas the second one is of second order. These two equations along with appropriate boundary conditions are then numerically solved via the shooting technique. Finally, in the light of the prominent outcomes, for both the viscoelastic and viscosity parameters growth, the enhancement of the sheet velocity is remarkable, whereas the drastically drop for the sheet velocity was observed for the magnetic parameter.

Soret and Dufour effects on MHD flow of viscoelastic fluid past an infinite vertical stretching sheet

AbstractHeat and mass transmission taking place in a magnetohydrodynamics fluid of substantial viscosity via a permeable object has been currently a subject of study inviting research. This transmission takes place along an infinite expanding vertical surface showing Soret and Dufour effects. Differential forms of nonlinear nature such as energy, momentum, and equations defining concentration are ascertained by means of similarity transformation with the existing buoyancy force, and by making use of the homotopy analysis method, the equations have been analytically resolved. The impacts arising out of applied factors on temperature, velocity, and concentration forms have been appropriately designed and established.

Thermal Radiation, Chemical Reaction and Viscous Dissipation Effects on Unsteady MHD Flow of Viscoelastic Fluid Embedded in a Porous Medium

In this paper the effect of unsteady, incompressible, magneto hydrodynamics filled with electrically conducting viscoelastic fluid in an infinite vertical Couette porous channel wall embedded in a porous medium is analyzed. A uniform magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the channel wall. The temperature of the moving channel wall varies periodically and the temperature difference between the two infinite vertical channel walls is high due to thermal radiation. The Eckert number is the ratio of the kinetic energy of the flow to the temperature difference of the channel walls. The solution of the governing equations is obtained using regular perturbation techniques. These techniques are used to transform partial differential equations that are difficult to solve in closed form. These equations are reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations in dimensionless form so can be solved analytically. The effects of physical parameters Viz. Hartmann number, Viscoelastic parameter, Eckert number, Permeability of porous medium, Chemical reaction parameter, thermal Grashof number for heat transfer, modified Grashof number for mass transfer, frequency parameter and Schmidt number on flow parameters Viz., velocity, temperature and concentration has been discussed and shown graphically. The theoretical results have been supported by MATLAB code simulation study. The results show that velocity decreases with increasing values of frequency, Hartmann number and viscoelastic parameter but reverse effect is observed with temperature, thermal Grashof number, modified Grashof number and permeability of porous medium. Furthermore, The result shows that an increment in both thermal radiation parameter and Eckert number results in decrement of temperature near the moving porous channel wall while it approaches to a zero in the region close to the boundary layer of the stationary channel wall,. An increment in both chemical reaction and Schmidt number results in decreasing concentration. The velocity of fluid increases as Grashof number and modified Grashof number increases.

ANALYSIS OF SECOND-GRADE FLUID FLOW IN POROUS CHANNEL WITH CATTANEO-CHRISTOV AND GENERALIZED FICK’S THEORIES

This attempt executes the combined heat mass transport features in steady MHD viscoelastic fluid flow through stretching walls of channel. The channel walls are considered to be porous. The analysis of heat transport is made by help Cattaneo-Christov heat diffusion formula while generalized Fick’s theory is developed for study of mass transport. The system of partial differential expressions is changed into set of ordinary differential by introducing suitable variables. The homotopic scheme is introduced for solving the resultant equations and then validity of results are verified by various graphs. An extensive analysis has been performed for the influence of involved constraints on liquid velocity, concentration and temperature profiles. It is noted that the normal component of velocity decreases by increasing Reynolds number while retards for increasing viscoelastic constraint. Both temperature and concentration profiles enhanced by increasing combined parameter and Reynolds number. The presence of thermal relaxation number and concentration relaxation number declines both temperature and concentration profiles, respectively.

Interplay of chemical reacting species in a fractional viscoelastic fluid flow

Fractional MHD viscoelastic fluid flow has been discussed in this study. Two dimensional and two directional unsteady flow field is more critically analyzed via non-integer time derivatives. Three memory parameters are incorporated to explore the viscoelastic characteristics of the model. Variations in concentration occurred due to homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions in the flow domain. Change in concentrations consequently leads to one of the lasting chemical species. Heterogeneous reactions are observed at the boundary while homogeneous reactions are seen in the flowing region. We consider different orders of diffusion coefficients of chemical reacting species to tackle the wider class of physical and chemical processes. Governing equations are nonlinear in nature. Hence a recently established finite difference technique along with “L1 algorithm” is used for discretization and solution of governing fractional partial differential equations. Presence of chemical reactions in flow process made the simulations valuable for chemical industry.

Impact of cross diffusion on MHD viscoelastic fluid flow past a melting surface with exponential heat source

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose the knowledge of thermal transport of magneto hydrodynamic non-Newtonian fluid flow over a melting sheet in the presence of exponential heat source. Design/methodology/approach The group of PDE is mutated as dimension free with the assistance of similarity transformations and these are highly nonlinear and coupled. The authors solved the coupled ODE’s with the help of fourth-order Runge–Kutta based shooting technique. The impact of dimensionless sundry parameters on three usual distributions of the flow was analyzed and bestowed graphically. Along with them friction factor, heat and mass transfer rates have been assessed and represented with the aid of table. Findings Results exhibited that all the flow fields (velocity, concentration and temperature) are decreasing functions of melting parameter. Also the presence of cross-diffusion highly affects the heat and mass transfer performance. Originality/value Present paper deals with the heat and mass transfer characteristics of magnetohydrodynamics flow of non-Newtonian fluids past a melting surface. The effect of exponential heat source is also considered. Moreover this is a new work in the field of heat transfer in non-Newtonian fluid flows.

The boundary layer flow, heat and mass transfer of an electrically conducting viscoelastic fluid over a stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium has been studied. The effect of transverse magnetic field, non-uniform heat source and chemical reaction on the flow has been analyzed. The Darcy linear model has been applied to account for the permeability of the porous medium. The method of solution involves similarity transformation. The confluent hypergeometric function (Kummer’s function) has been applied to solve the governing equations. Two aspects of heat equation namely, (1) prescribed surface ure and (2) prescribed wall heat flux are considered. The study reveals that the loss of momentum transfer in the main direction of flow is compensated by increasing in transverse direction vis-a-vis the corresponding velocity components due to magnetic force density. The application of magnetic field of higher density produces low solutal concentration and a hike in surface temperature.

Steady laminar MHD flow of visco-elastic fluid through a porous pipe embedded in a porous medium

An attempt has been made to study the effect of elasticity, suction/injection, porous matrix, inlet flow Reynolds number on the flow of a visco-elastic (Walters B′) fluid through a porous pipe. The novelty of the study is to consider the entire flow domain without boundary layer approximation in the governing equations vis-à-vis the fully developed solutions of the velocity field are obtained. Further, we have discussed the viscous and non-conducting flow as particular cases by omitting the effect of elasticity and magnetic field. It is interesting to note that elasticity property of the fluid in presence of porous matrix and suction reduces the skin friction at the plate which is a desirable outcome of the present study.

Numerical Study of MHD Viscoelastic Fluid Flow with Binary Chemical Reaction and Arrhenius Activation Energy

Abstract Here we address the influence of heat/mass transfer on MHD axisymmetric viscoelastic fluid flow developed by an elastic sheet stretching linearly in the radial direction. Constitutive relations of Maxwell fluid model are utilized in mathematical formulation of the problem. Non-linear radiation heat flux is factored in the model which accounts for both small and large temperature differences. Chemical reaction effects with modified Arrhenius energy function are analyzed which are not yet explored for viscoelastic fluid flows. Highly accurate numerical computations are performed. Our computations show S-shaped profiles of temperature function in case of sufficiently large temperature differences. Species concentration increases when activation energy for chemical reaction is increased. However, both chemical reaction rate and temperature gradient tend to reduce the solute concentration.
