The article highlights little-known facts from the biography and scientific restoration activities of O. Minzhulin, related to the restoration of underwater archeology. The paper describes the first methodology of restoration and conservation of materials of underwater archeological researches of Ukraine initiated by Minzhulin. This methodology involves: This methodology gradually included: placing the lifted objects in an alkaline aqueous solution, applying the method of intensive washing in deionized water, the method of desalination with sesquicarbonate, the method of alkaline-sulfite treatment of iron, the involvement of an ultrasonic device with frequency wave control and more. Innovative were the methods of restoration of underwater archaeological ferrous metal. An underwater volcano is named after the outstanding restorer.

Disinfection and conditions associated with thermo-assisted drying and decontamination inconsistently produce negative PRRSV rRT-PCR results on metal surfaces

Because contaminated livestock trailers are a significant risk for transmitting viruses between herds, various methods of washing, disinfecting, and thermo-assisted drying and decontamination (TADD) have been evaluated for their effectiveness in inactivating porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) on contaminated surfaces. Information on when to expect negative qRT-PCR results after adequate trailer sanitation is lacking. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether there are conditions associated with washing-disinfectant-TADD procedures that will consistently produce a negative qRT-PCR result for the purpose of monitoring compliance with trailer sanitation and decontamination protocols for PRRSV on metal surfaces. 144 diamond plate aluminum coupons were spiked with PRRSV or phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and treated with a designated disinfectant protocol. Disinfectants evaluated included multiple accelerated® hydrogen peroxide (AHP) disinfectants and a quaternary ammonium and glutaraldehyde combination disinfectant. Disinfectant was applied for 5 or 60 minutes of contact time at either 20 °C or −10 °C in a matrix of feces or PBS. All coupons were heated until the surface temperature of the coupon reached 71 °C and then held for 10 minutes to simulate TADD under field conditions. Post-treatment swabs for all treatment groups, except negative control groups, were positive by PRRSV qRT-PCR. Under the conditions evaluated in this study, consistently negative qRT-PCR results after treatments were not found. Therefore, for the purpose of monitoring compliance with trailer sanitation and decontamination protocols for PRRSV, alternatives to qRT-PCR should be explored.

Mutfak Departmanı Personelinin Kişisel Hijyen Bilgi ve Uygulamaları: Şanlıurfa İli Konaklama İşletmelerinde Bir Uygulama

One of the important perceptions in evaluating the competitiveness of tourism enterprises is hygiene. Hygiene includes elements that prevent diseases and eliminate existing dangers for body integrity and health. Food-borne diseases become a common health problem in the event that personnel working in the kitchen departments of accommodation businesses lack personal hygiene knowledge and practices. In this study, it was aimed to determine the hygiene knowledge and practices of the personnel working in the kitchen departments of the accommodation establishments of different statuses, including hotels, hostels, apart hotels and boutique hotels, operating in Sanliurfa City Center. Within the scope of the research, 17 accommodation establishments were reached and a questionnaire form was applied to 207 kitchen personnel. The questionnaire form consists of three parts and a total of 40 questions. As a result of the analysis made; Although the personnel participating in the research know the effects of body bath in terms of cleanliness, the method of hand washing in accordance with the hygiene rules, dental health, and the correct application for nasal cleaning; It was concluded that she did not know the way of cutting her finger and toenails and the best application for cleaning her hair and feet.

Fabrication of pure-drug microneedles for delivery of montelukast sodium

Dissolving microneedle (MN) patches are usually formulated with a blend of drug and excipients added for mechanical strength and drug stabilization. In this study, we developed MNs made of pure drug to maximize drug loading capacity. MN patches were fabricated for transdermal delivery of montelukast sodium (MS) which is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. We developed three different fabrication methods - solvent casting, melt casting, and solvent washing - and determined that filling molds with MS powder followed by a solvent washing method enabled MS to be loaded selectively to the MNs. Drug localization was confirmed with Raman imaging. MNs were able to penetrate in vitro and ex vivo skin models, and maintained strong mechanical properties during 6months' storage at 22°C. MS was also stable and compatible with the formulation used for the patch backing layer after 3months' storage at 40°C. MS delivery efficiency into skin was 55%, which enabled delivery of 3.2mg MS into porcine skin ex vivo, which is in the range of MS doses in human clinical use. We conclude that the solvent washing method can be used to prepare MNs containing pure drug, such as MS at milligram doses in a ~ 1 cm2 MN patch.

Biodiesel fuel purification in a continuous centrifugal contactor separator: An environmental-friendly approach

Wet washing is the most common method for biodiesel purification, but higher water consumption, longer purification time, and high expenses bring limitations on the use of this process. One of the suitable methods to remove such limitations is to use new techniques for purification. In this study, biodiesel purification was evaluated in a novel continuous centrifugal contactor separator (CCCS) at 0.5:1, 1:1, and 1.5:1 (V/V%)water to biodiesel ratio; 10 Hz, 20 Hz, and 30 Hz device working frequency; and 25 °C, 40 °C, and 55 °C temperatures. A mathematical model for the wet-washing process of biodiesel and energy consumption of the CCCS device using the response surface method is proposed. A 0.8:1 (V/V%) water to biodiesel ratio, 10 Hz working frequency, and 35 °C temperature were found to be the optimal conditions in the experiment. At this point, the biodiesel yield and the amount of energy consumption were reported to be 96% and 17 kJ, respectively. The results showed that compared to the traditional wet washing method, the biodiesel purification method using CCCS is cost-effective and consumes more than 75% less of water.

Effect of semen washing methods on diminishing the transmission of viral infections in artificial reproductive technology

Seminal infections were considered to be an etiologic factor of male infertility. Semen washing is used as an appropriate technique in artificial reproductive technology (ART) for serodiscordant couples when the partner of male is contaminated. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of semen washing methods in reducing the transmission of viral infections in ART. In this narrative review we investigated accessible information from Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, IranMedex, Irandoc, Magiran, SID, MEDLIB and Scientific Information Database until 2019. The MeSH terms of semen washing, HIV, assisted reproduction, serodiscordant, and virus transmission were used. According to the search strategy, 89 articles were discovered. After checking the titles, abstracts and manuscripts, a collection of 45 papers were chosen pursuant to the suitability indexes. The studies were performed around different categories of semen washing (swim up, density gradient) in serodiscordant couples. Some studies highlighted that semen washings can completely prevent viral transmission, but a few do not believe this claim. However, scientific researchers have revealed that sperm washing may diminish the possibility of infection in serodiscordant couples where the male partner is infected. Swim up in combination with density gradient is a suitable method to diminish the transmission of infections.

The Effects of Storage on Nutrient Composition and Mycoflora of Stored Guinea Corn (Sorghum bicolor) Grains

Aims: This research work aims to determine the changes in nutritional (proximate, mineral) composition and mycoflora of Sorghum bicolor grains stored for 5 months in order to determine its fitness in meeting nutritional demand. 
 Study Design: Experimental study design was carried out
 Place and Duration of Study: Department of Microbiology, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, from February 2017 to August 2018.
 Methodology: The grain was procured from Usi market in Usi-Ekiti. It was further sundried for seven days and stored in an airtight container in the laboratory at room temperature. They were visually examined for external changes on the caryopsis and cultured to determine the spoilage fungi. Mineral and proximate analyses were routinely carried out to determine the changes in nutrient composition. These analyses were carried out monthly for five months to determine the changes in physicochemical properties and mycoflora associated with Sorghum bicolor on storage. Results: During storage, spoilage such as external mouldiness, discoloration, musty odour and progressive depletion of external caryopsis were observed on the grain. Seven species of fungi namely Penicillium glabrum, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium spp., Fusarium spp., Alternaria spp., Aspergillus niger and Saccharomyces cerevisiae were isolated using a combination of direct plating, dilution and washing method. The colony count of the mycoflora population increased from 6 to 16 spore-forming units per gram. The proximate component comprising ash, moisture, crude protein, fat and fiber content decreased but an increase in carbohydrate content was recorded. A negative Pearson correlation (r = - .990) between crude protein and carbohydrate content was recorded. This was attributed to the presence of resistant starch in Sorghum bicolor and the use of alternative source(s) of carbon for energy by the fungi. The entire mineral component decreased during storage. Copper was the barest mineral while magnesium was the most stable mineral in the stored grain.
 Conclusion: Sorghum bicolor grains contain vital minerals and nutrients. Prolonged storage of Sorghum bicolor increased the mycoflora population and consequently decreased the nutrient composition excluding the carbohydrate component. Some minerals and proximate components of the grain were relatively stable while others experienced pronounced depletion. Nutritionally deficient grains may lead to malnutrition especially in growing animals and human populations were adequate minerals and nutrients are required for rapid growth.

Evaluation of biofilm-forming abilities of Listeria monocytogenes (ATCC 19115) and efficacy of different washing methods for removal of biofilm on apple

Fresh produce can be contaminated at any stage along the food supply chain. In this study, apple was chosen to determine the time course of biofilm formation by Listeria monocytogenes (ATCC 19115), as well as to compare the efficacy of different household washing methods such as scrubbing with hands under running tap water, soaking with and without commercial vegetable wash with different treatment times in removing the biofilm formation by L. monocytogenes on apple surface. The biofilm formation was quantified using crystal violet assay and the result showed that L. monocytogenes took 18 hrs to form matured biofilm on apple surface. Besides, scrubbing apples with hands under running tap water for 30 s and 60 s were the most effective method which significantly removed (P<0.05) biofilm formed on the apple surface with approximately 5.93 log reduction. Soaking apples with vegetable wash for 5 mins and 10 mins were also found to be significantly effective (P<0.05) in reducing L. monocytogenes biofilm. Since L. monocytogenes can form matured biofilm on fresh produce, therefore efficient washing step is important before consuming fresh produce to lower the risk of foodborne illness.

In-situ grown inorganic layer coated PVDF/PSF composite hollow fiber membranes with enhanced separation performance

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membranes are widely employed for water treatment but mainly limited by their hydrophobic properties that increase the separation resistance. To make hydrophilic PVDF membranes, inorganic layer coated PVDF blend hollow fiber membranes are reported here. PVDF/polysulfone (PSF) blend hollow fiber membranes with pore size of ~110 nm were fabricated using PolarClean as a green solvent. Then, a facile and green method was employed to in-situ grow an inorganic layer (including TiO2 and Al2O3 layers) on these high strength membranes. Pluronic L61 was used as a dispersing agent to distribute the precursors in isopropanol, and enhanced adhesive strength between the polymer membrane and inorganic particles as characterized by XPS. The inorganic layers on the PVDF/PSF membrane surface both improved the mechanical strength from 7.7 MPa to 9.2 MPa and decreased the membrane roughness from ~50 nm to ~10 nm. The water permeance of the composite membranes can be finely tuned from 50 to 500 Lm−2h−1bar−1. In addition, the resulting membranes simultaneously enhanced the separation performance and anti-fouling performance characterized by bovine serum albumin (BSA) rejection behavior and flux recovery rate (FRR), respectively. The best BSA rejection and FRR of the PVDF/PSF-inorganic composite membranes reach 95% and 72.2%, respectively. The anti-fouling performance of composite membranes is mainly attributed to the decreased membrane roughness and enhanced hydrophilic properties compared with pristine PVDF/PSF membranes. Furthermore, the in-situ grown inorganic layers on the PVDF/PSF membrane surface effectively prevent foulants from blocking the pore channels as they are easily washed by the hydraulic washing method.

Descriptive Study on Urinary Tract Infections among Children

Abstract Background: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most prevalent bacterial infections affecting approximately 1.7% of boys and 8.4% of girls. Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine different variables that are associated with an increased risk of UTI in children. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study conducted on 150 convenient urine samples were obtained from Child’s Teaching Hospital in Baghdad city from children under 12 years during period of September 20, 2021–December 20, 2021. The inclusion criteria include children between 1 and 12 years old for both sexes with clinical evidence of UTIs diagnosed by physicians attending this hospital. The exclusion criteria were children under 1 year and those with genetic defect of UTI. Results: Highest rates of UTIs were in the age group (<1–4 years); 77 (51.3%) of them were male with a male-to-female ratio of 1.05:1. About 16.7% of children whose mothers had primary education were diagnosed with UTIs. Twenty-two percentage of positive culture tests occur in those wiping from the front as compared with 27.3% wiping from the back from behind. The positive culture test was found in 33.7% of those not circumcised in comparison with 19.4% of those undergone circumcision. Escherichia coli was detected in 31 (20.7%) of the studied sample. Conclusion: UTIs are most prevalent among boys under 12 years, in particular those who did not undergone circumcision. E. coli is among the highest frequent bacteria detected in the urine cultures of children. It is recommended to educate mothers during pregnancy and after delivery regarding the importance of circumcision to boys and proper washing methods.

Tissue Engineering Scaffold Materials to Repair Sports Cartilage Injury

With the continued development of sports in China, sports sometimes cause cartilage damage. The purpose of this research is to study the tissue engineering scaffold material for sports cartilage damage repair. In this study, mesenchymal rat bone marrow stem cells (to put it simply, stem cells are a type of cell with unlimited or immortal self-renewal capacity, capable of producing at least one type of highly differentiated progeny cells) were obtained by the total bone wash method. The cells were inoculated into the cell culture bottle. When the primary cultured cells proliferated to about 80% of the culture bottle area, the cells were digested with trypsin to open the cell link, then the medium containing 10% serum was added to terminate the cell digestion, and then the passage expansion was carried out according to the cell density. PLGA/NHA and PLGA were heated to 65°C under ultrasonic vibration until uniform PLGA/NHA and PLGA solutions were obtained. Then, the samples were added to the tube mold and then heated and cooled to obtain the composite porous scaffold of mesenchymal stem cells. 10 μl MSCs cell suspension was extracted with a microinjector, and the needle was injected from the inside of the scaffold, and the cell suspension was added outside the scaffold to ensure that there were composite cells inside and outside the scaffold. The subcutaneous tissue of the skin was cut along the medial side of the knee joint and the capsule of the switch segment was cut. The scaffold materials were filled into the osteochondral defect to observe the cartilage healing. The mechanical strength of 0.5% PLGA-MSCs composite porous scaffold was increased to 1.1 MPa, and the cell density was high. The repair of cartilage in rats was the best. The results showed that the porous scaffolds designed in this study have good compatibility and are beneficial to repair sports cartilage injury.

Remediation of hydrocarbon contaminated soil using alkyl benzene sulfonate: preliminary study

This work was aimed to remediate petroleum contaminated soil by soil washing method. This method is among alternative remediation used to remove petroleum pollutant or contaminant from soil using aqueous chemical surfactan. This studi was preceeded to the characterization of contaminated soil to classify the soil including gain size, oil and gease and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH). Laboratory scale experiment was done to investigate the effect of aqueous chemical surfactan Alkyl Benzena Sulfonate (ABS). The effect of surfactant and bulking agent to TPH removal was observed by varying the ratio of contaminated soil (g) to bulking agent (silica soil) in g /g units, with the ratio 50:50; 35:65 and 25:75 in variations of surfactant solution . 0%; 0.25%; 0.5%; 0.75% and 1.0% (mL/mL). The results showed that the soil washing was influenced by bulking agent ratio. The higher the ratio of the bulking agent, the higher the TPH reduction. The highest percentage of TPH removal achieved 92 %, at surfactant concentration of 0.25% and ratio of soil/bulking agent of 25 : 75.

Removal of Pb, Zn, Ni and Cr from industrial sludge by biodegradable washing agents: Caboxyethylthiosuccinic acid and itaconic-acrylic acid

Chemical washing is considered an effective technique for removing heavy metals (HMs) from industrial sludge. However, traditional washing methods have the potential to cause secondary environmental pollution. In this study, a new chemical washing strategy that circumvents the risk of secondary contamination by using two organic acid polymers—Caboxyethylthiosuccinic acid (CETSA) and itaconic-acrylic acid copolymer (IA-AA) were introduced to remove Pb, Zn, Ni and Cr from industrial sludge. The quantity of HMs removed from the sludge increases as a function of increasing agent concentration, Solid-to-liquid ratio, and washing time, while various trends were observed in response to increasing pH. In addition, response surface analysis showed that CETSA concentration significantly affected HM removal; and IA-AA concentration, pH, and washing time showed evident impacts on washing efficiency. Optimal washing specifications using CETSA, with respect to agent concentration, pH, and washing time, were 66.76 g/L, 2.76, and 248 min, respectively; while those of IA-AA were 100 g/L, 2, and 360 min, respectively. CETSA and IA-AA removed 69.04% and 98.31% of total HMs, respectively, and decreased the labile fractions of Zn and Ni. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis suggested that the hydroxyl, carboxyl, carbonyl might contribute to the heavy metal extraction. Overall, CETSA and IA-AA should be seriously considered as reliable washing agents for use in HM removal from sludge.

Remediation of zinc-contaminated soils by using the two-step washing with citric acid and water-soluble chitosan

Remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil with appropriate washing agents is crucial to the decline in the harmfulness of contaminated soil by heavy metals to the environment and human health. In this study, citric acid (CA) and water-soluble chitosan (WSCS) as natural and degradable washing agents were used to remove Zn in the soil by two-step washing method. Results indicated that the two-step washing with CA and WSCS were found to be suitable for the removal of Zn from the contaminated soils, which significantly decreased the total concentration of Zn in the soil. After the remediation process with two-step soil washing, the contents of Zn in different chemical species decreased, especially for the carbonate-bound fraction. Therefore, the two-step soil washing with CA and WSCS was advisable for the remediation of Zn-contaminated soils. The washing mechanism could include the acid dissolution, ion exchange and complexation reaction between zinc ions and functional groups such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, amine and amide groups. This study provided the theoretical support for the exploitation and application of suitable washing agents used for the remediation of contaminated soils by heavy metals.

THE IMPACT OF EMERGENCIES ON THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE DISEASES OF FARM ANIMALS IN THE REPUBLIC OF KHAKASSIA

In the conditions of the Shirinsky District, monitoring was carried out for the first time for the change in number of helminthic diseases before and after fires. Fires have led to changes in the properties of the ground cover, soil, and simplification of communities; the complex of soil-dwelling arthropods has undergone a number of significant changes, which are manifested in a decrease in number and species diversity. The aim of the study is to determine the prevalence of various parasites in farm animals after large-scale fires on the example of the Shirinsky District of the Republic of Khakassia. The study subject was eggs, larvae and helminths of the studied animals. The study object was farm animals. The studies were carried out by the method of sequential washing of fecal samples. Based on the study results of 786 fecal samples from various animals, we received the following results. We have proved that the fire had a great impact on the parasitofauna of animals in the Shirinsky District; the number of invasive diseases first decreased after fires and then increased again. We found out that the decrease in number of parasitic diseases was associated with the following: fires had an adverse effect on the ecological state of the environment and changed the existence conditions of living organisms. The fire destroyed eggs, larvae and definitive hosts of the parasites.

Selective adsorption and separation of dyes from aqueous solution by a zirconium‐based porous framework material

A water‐stable zirconium‐based metal–organic framework, MOF‐808, has been applied in selective adsorption and separation of the dyes (anionic fluorescein sodium [FS] and cationic rhodamine B [RhB]). Single‐component adsorption experiments indicate the superior adsorption of FS with a maximum adsorption capacity of 480.2 mg g−1, almost four times of the capacity for RhB. Further separation study shows that separation of these dyes can be achieved at a wide pH range of 3.5–8.5 and continuous separation is feasible in a simulated chromatographic column. Besides, this material can be well regenerated through acid washing method. Pore sieving effect is considered to be the key factor for the highly efficiency separation, and the host–guest interactions including H‐bond, π–π stacking, and coordination interactions are the main driven forces for the adsorption. Thus, this work demonstrates that MOF‐808 not only is a promising material for efficient separation of FS and RhB but also provides a new perspective for developing adsorbent with the help of distinct pore and chemical properties of MOFs.

Role of nitrogen deficiency on growth and development near isogenic by E genes lines of soybean co-inoculated with nitrogen-fixing bacteria

Nitrogen deficiency is a limiting factor in increasing efficiency of crop production in terrestrial ecosystems, and the transformation of inert nitrogen to forms that can be assimilated by plants is mediated by soil microorganisms. Symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria and roots depend on each other and have developed various mechanisms for symbiotic coexistence. The aim of this work was to investigate the role of nitrogen deficiency on growth and development near isogenic by E genes lines of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.): short-day (SD) line with genotype Е1е2е3(Е4е5Е7), and photoperiodic insensitive (PPI) line with genotype е1е2е3(Е4е5Е7) grown from seeds inoculated with active strains of Bradyrhizobium japonicum against the background of local populations of diazotrophs of the genus Azotobacter spp. and establish how the soybean – Bradyrhizobium symbiosis will develop as the genes of both microsymbionts and macrosymbionts are responsible for the formation of the symbiotic complex. Plants were grown in a vegetation chamber, in sand culture. To assess the quantitative composition of microorganisms in the rhizosphere and rhizoplanes, 6 plants were selected from each soybean line, then separation of the zones of the rhizosphere and rhizoplanes was performed using the method of washing and the resulting suspension was used for inoculation on dense nutrient media (mannitol-yeast agar medium and Ashby medium). The results of study showed that seed inoculation and co-inoculation provides faster formation of the symbiotic soybean – Bradyrhizobium complex. Differences in nodulation rates between the short-day line with genotype Е1е2е3(Е4е5Е7), and a photoperiodic insensitive line with genotype е1е2е3(Е4е5Е7) were identified. Determination of the amount of B. japonicum on the medium of mannitol-yeast agar in the rhizosphere and rhizoplane showed that inoculation by B. japonicum strain 634b caused a significant increase in the amount B. japonicum in the rhizosphere and rhizoplane in both soybean lines, comparison with non-inoculated seeds. Then, co-inoculation by B. japonicum strain 634b + Azotobacter chroococcum significantly increased the amount of B. japonicum only in the rhizoplane and decreased their number in the rhizosphere. Determination of the amount of A. chroococcum on the Ashby elective medium in the rhizosphere and rhizoplane showed that the inoculation by B. japonicum strain 634b caused a significant decrease in the amount of A. chroococcum both in the rhizosphere and in the rhizoplane of the PPI line of soybean, and in the rhizosphere the SD line, in comparison with non-inoculated seeds. That can testify to the competitive interaction of these microorganisms. However, the co-inoculation by B. japonicum strain 634b + A. chroococcum in the SD line significantly increased the number of A. chroococcum in the rhizoplane and decreased their number in the rhizosphere, in the PPI line their number decreased in the rhizoplane and increased in the rhizosphere, in comparison with non-inoculated seeds. Probably, the E genes (their dominant or recessive state) of soybean isogenic lines affect the regulation of the content and distribution of sugars. It was established that the nitrogen deficiency stimulated development of the root system of plants and the synthesized sugars were distributed predominantly to the root system growth. We suppose that the seeds’ inoculation had extended sugar consumption to the symbiont, due to which it compensates the lack of nitrogen, but leads to a slower growth of the root system.

RESEARCH OF THE IMPACT ON PRODUCTIVITY OF PARAMETERS AND OPERATING MODES OF THE VIBRATION MACHINE DRIVE FOR CLEANING AND WASHING CONTAMINATIONS BY SUBMERGTD STREAM JET WITH SOLID PARTICLES

Analyzed the methods of cleaning and washing, the design of machines with a vibration drive. The choice of a specific method of cleaning and washing is determined depending on the type and properties of contaminants, on the requirements for the cleanliness of products, and the type of production. The scheme of operation of a vibrating machine for cleaning and washing machine parts in a pulsating flow of liquid with solid particles is considered and parameters that affect its performance are determined. The results of studies of physical phenomena during the formation of a pulsating submerged jet are presented, and the influence of design parameters and modes of the drive robots on the maximum jet pressure is determined. An analytical dependence of the maximum instantaneous pressure of the jet has been obtained experimentally, which makes it possible to determine the optimal ratios of parameters when designing a vibration machine for cleaning and washing contaminants.

Different denim washing methods have been developed and used on various fabrics to produce a wide number of designs for fashionable denim garments and jeans over the last few decades. This study focused on the washing of denim fabrics with bleach and its effects on the denim fabrics. There were a total of three samples of three different structures of denim and bleached each sample in three different shades; light, medium, and dark. Among these samples, two samples were an indigo blue color, the composition of 98% cotton, 2% spandex, GSM–350 and 99% cotton, 1% spandex, GSM–330 respectively. KCI bleach for these two samples has found a good result. Another sample was black, 100% cotton, GSM–290. KCI bleach also applied on it but the result was not desired, bleaching results in a reddish effect over the fabrics, washed the remaining portion of the fabrics in caustic soda and got the desired result.

Batch and Column Extraction of Lead from Al-Doura Oil Refinery Soil

The aim of this research is to investigate the extraction of lead (Pb) from soil of Al-Doura oil refinery in Baghdad/Iraq. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt (Na2EDTA) and Hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution were used as extractants. Soil washing method was practiced in two ways, batch extraction and column extraction experiments. A set of batch experiments were carried out at different conditions of extractant (Na2EDTA, HCl) concentration, contact time, pH and agitation speed. From the batch experiments, the maximum removal percentages of Pb that have been obtained were 70 % using Na2EDTA (0.1M) at pH 4 , agitation speed 200 and at equilibrium time 4 hours and 65 % using HCl (1M) at pH 1.08 , agitation speed 200 at equilibrium time 5 hours. 
 Column experiments were conducted at different conditions of extractant (Na2EDTA, HCl) concentration, contact time and flow rate. The maximum removal percentages of Pb were 78% using Na2EDTA (0.1M) at pH 4 , flow rate 30 ml/hr and equilibrium time 8 hours and 75% using HCl (1M) at pH 1.08, flow rate 20 ml/hr and equilibrium time 10 hours. 
 The column extraction proved that the extractant volume required to achieve high removal efficiency is less than that of the batch extraction, but requires a longer contact time.
 The experimental data of batch and column extraction were applied in four kinetic models; first order, parabolic diffusion, two constant and Elovich model to find best fit model for extraction system. For batch extraction, the parabolic diffusion and two-constant models gave the best correlation {coefficient of determination (R2)} with experimental data using HCl and Na2EDTA respectively. While for column extraction, Elovich model gave good correlation with experimental data.
