Influence of Celebrity Endorsement for Social Causes in India

Most advertisers utilize celebrity endorsement as a marketing strategy in their advertising. Many firms are only well-known for their use of celebrities in their advertising. The spectator was forced to really consider our societal challenges via social marketing. Through a forceful advisory message, social advertising's main goal is to inform the general public. Nowadays, celebrity endorsement is frequently used to raise public awareness of the social problems that our society is currently facing. Privacy preserving monitoring protocol for Cyber–Physical System

Cyber–Physical Systems integrate computational and physical systems that can interact with humans in various ways. Due to less research on location privacy, building a monitoring protocol for the CPS system is challenging. Location privacy is becoming a major issue in the CPS, where the actual source and its messages are kept avoided by an attacker. The attacker follows the incoming message’s route to reach the source’s location. To hide the location of the source from attackers and increase their safety period, this research proposes a Multi-Ring protocol. A complete theoretical and mathematical analysis is discussed to check the model’s complexity and performance. The message delivery delay, throughput, energy consumption, and safety time ratio metrics are used for performance comparison. The simulation results confirmed that the proposed protocol increases the source safety period and network lifetime compared to the existing protocols.

Developing the Message Assessment Scale for Tobacco Prevention Campaigns: Cross-sectional Validation Study.

BackgroundMass media campaigns are effective for influencing a broad range of health behaviors. Prior to launching a campaign, developers often conduct ad testing to help identify the strengths and weaknesses of the message executions among the campaign’s target audience. This process allows for changes to be made to ads, making them more relevant to or better received by the target audience before they are finalized. To assess the effectiveness of an ad’s message and execution, campaign ads are often rated using a single item or multiple items on a scale, and scores are calculated. Endorsement of a 6-item perceived message effectiveness (PME) scale, defined as the practice of using a target audience’s evaluative ratings to inform message selection, is one approach commonly used to select messages for antitobacco campaigns; however, the 6-item PME scale often does not produce enough specificity to make important decisions on ad optimization. In addition, the PME scale is typically used with adult populations for smoking cessation messages.ObjectiveThis study includes the development of the Message Assessment Scale, a new tobacco prevention message testing scale for youth and young adults.MethodsData were derived from numerous cross-sectional surveys designed to test the relevance and potential efficacy of antitobacco truth campaign ads. Participants aged 15-24 years (N=6108) responded to a set of 12 core attitudinal items, including relevance (both personal and cultural) as well as comprehension of the ad’s main message.ResultsAnalyses were completed in two phases. In phase I, mean scores were calculated for each of the 12 attitudinal items by ad type, with higher scores indicating more endorsement of the item. Next, all items were submitted to exploratory factor analysis. A four-factor model fit was revealed and verified with confirmatory factor analysis, resulting in the following constructs: personally relevant, culturally relevant, the strength of messaging, and negative attributes. In phase II, ads were categorized by performance (high/medium/low), and constructs identified in phase I were correlated with key campaign outcomes (ie, main fact agreement and likelihood to vape). Phase II confirmed that the four constructs identified in phase I were all significantly correlated with main fact agreement and vape intentions.ConclusionsFindings from this study advance the field by establishing an expanded set of validated items to comprehensively assess the potential effectiveness of advertising executions. This set of items expands the portfolio of ad testing measures for ads focused on tobacco use prevention. Findings can inform how best to optimize ad executions and message delivery for health behavior campaigns, particularly those focused on tobacco use prevention among youth and young adult populations.

Designing Reinforcement Learning Algorithms for Digital Interventions: Pre-Implementation Guidelines.

Online reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms are increasingly used to personalize digital interventions in the fields of mobile health and online education. Common challenges in designing and testing an RL algorithm in these settings include ensuring the RL algorithm can learn and run stably under real-time constraints, and accounting for the complexity of the environment, e.g., a lack of accurate mechanistic models for the user dynamics. To guide how one can tackle these challenges, we extend the PCS (predictability, computability, stability) framework, a data science framework that incorporates best practices from machine learning and statistics in supervised learning to the design of RL algorithms for the digital interventions setting. Furthermore, we provide guidelines on how to design simulation environments, a crucial tool for evaluating RL candidate algorithms using the PCS framework. We show how we used the PCS framework to design an RL algorithm for Oralytics, a mobile health study aiming to improve users' tooth-brushing behaviors through the personalized delivery of intervention messages. Oralytics will go into the field in late 2022.

Promoting hotel upselling: The effect of message appeal and delivery setting on consumer attitude and purchase intention

This study investigated the effectiveness of rational and emotional appeals in online and offline hotel upselling messages on customer attitude and purchase intention. The study employed a 2 (rational appeal: rational vs. non-rational) × 2 (emotional appeal: emotional vs. non-emotional) × 2 (message delivery setting: online vs. offline) between-subjects design with a sample size of 578 respondents. The findings revealed that, for offline upselling, rational appeal is the most effective for increasing both customer attitude and purchase intention. On the other hand, for online upselling, emotional appeal was the most effective for improving customer attitude, while none of the appeals direabsctly improved. The current study extends the literature by providing a better understanding of hotel consumer attitude and purchase intention toward upselling and helps hotel professionals strategically utilize the upselling technique.

Age Differences in Preferred Methods of Obtaining and Understanding Health Related Information During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Australia.

Methods of communications and the nature of messaging are critically important in influencing public behavior. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in major disruptions to all aspects of life globally and has triggered multiple approaches of health messaging to the general public to communicate COVID-19 preventative measures. This study aimed to identify: (1) differences between age groups in the main avenues used by people to obtain COVID-19 related information; and (2) whether age and information sources were associated with correct interpretation of government messaging relating to how people understand or interpret the terms “self-isolation” and “social distancing.” An online survey was conducted in 2020. Participants were aged over 18 years and grouped into age group decades. Differences in sources of COVID-19 information were compared visually between age groups. Logistic regression was used to determine whether age and each of the various methods of communication of COVID-19 information were independently associated with correct response to the self-isolation, or the social distancing statements. There were 3,300 survey respondents 85% female; age sub-groups: 18–29 (7.4%); 30–39 (10.6%); 40–49 (17.6%); 50–59 (22.9%); 60–69 (25.9%); 70–79 (13.9%); and 80+ (1.7%). People accessed public health messaging information from a wide variety of sources that changed as they aged (e.g., older people were more likely to be exposed to COVID-19 information via television news programs and less likely via social media platforms). Age was frequently associated with whether the message key terms were interpreted correctly or incorrectly, but in some cases, it promoted more correct responses whereas in others, fewer correct responses. There was no difference between being exposed to COVID-19 information via mainstream media, compared with social media, or compared with Government sources of information, in terms of whether COVID-19 messages were interpreted correctly. In order to improve future public health messaging, there is a need for multiple avenues of communication to meet the needs and preferences across and within age groups. Further investigation is warranted into the clarity of the content and method of delivery of public health messages, to ensure optimal understanding of public health messages by vulnerable populations and across the community.

Why are people antiscience, and what can we do about it?

From vaccination refusal to climate change denial, antiscience views are threatening humanity. When different individuals are provided with the same piece of scientific evidence, why do some accept whereas others dismiss it? Building on various emerging data and models that have explored the psychology of being antiscience, we specify four core bases of key principles driving antiscience attitudes. These principles are grounded in decades of research on attitudes, persuasion, social influence, social identity, and information processing. They apply across diverse domains of antiscience phenomena. Specifically, antiscience attitudes are more likely to emerge when a scientific message comes from sources perceived as lacking credibility; when the recipients embrace the social membership or identity of groups with antiscience attitudes; when the scientific message itself contradicts what recipients consider true, favorable, valuable, or moral; or when there is a mismatch between the delivery of the scientific message and the epistemic style of the recipient. Politics triggers or amplifies many principles across all four bases, making it a particularly potent force in antiscience attitudes. Guided by the key principles, we describe evidence-based counteractive strategies for increasing public acceptance of science.

Adaptive and Optimized Control Channel Utilization in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are counted as a state-of-art technology which can be considered to provide reliable communication which is increase the safety and convenience of drivers in the road. Due to channel congestion occurrence in both highway and urban scenario, many VANET’s safety applications face degradation in their quality of service especially in a high-density environment. To improve the performance, reliability, and safety of VANETs, message overhead on the standard wireless channel dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) should be alleviated to guarantee safety-related applications. To this end, this paper proposes an approach to optimize the utilization of the control channel (CCH) and make the control channel interval (CCHI) adaptive to the emergency cases in the vehicular scenarios. More precisely, when there is an emergency cases, a part of service channel interval (SCHI) is exploited to ensure the guarantee of emergency message delivery. When a vehicle intended to transmit the safety message to the surround vehicles, the proposed method granted that CCH is allocated to meet the traffic safety demands; then, the safety messages disseminate properly to the transmission range. A part of the service channel interval (SCHI) is exploited to ensure the guarantee of emergency message delivery, Then, applying the laying chicken algorithm (LCA) to solve the derived CCH optimized utilization. Finally, extensive simulations are carried out to validate the proposed optimized CCH utilization. To validate the performance of the proposed adaptive congestion control approach (ACCA), we used the network simulator Ns-3 [35] to simulate the vehicle’s environment, after generating vehicles’ mobility traces of the nodes using the network simulator for urban mobility (SUMO) with OpenStreetMap (OSM). The simulation indicates that our congestion algorithm (ACCA) performs better service quality than other existing algorithms. We got a better network connection regarding safety messages, beacon rate with time, and packet length for different vehicles’ densities.

Novel Implementation Strategy to Electronically Screen and Signpost Patients to Health Behavior Apps: Mixed Methods Implementation Study (OptiMine Study).

BackgroundBehavior change apps have the potential to provide individual support on a population scale at low cost, but they face numerous barriers to implementation. Electronic health records (EHRs) in acute care hospitals provide a valuable resource for identifying patients at risk, who may benefit from behavior change apps. A novel, emerging implementation strategy is to use digital technologies not only for providing support to help-seeking individuals but also for signposting patients at risk to support services (also called proactive referral in the United States).ObjectiveThe OptiMine study aimed to increase the reach of behavior change apps by implementing electronic signposting for smoking cessation and alcohol reduction in a large, at-risk population that was identified through an acute care hospital EHR.MethodsThis 3-phase, mixed methods implementation study assessed the acceptability, feasibility, and reach of electronic signposting to behavior change apps by using a hospital’s EHR system to identify patients who are at risk. Phase 1 explored the acceptability of the implementation strategy among the patients and staff through focus groups. Phase 2 investigated the feasibility of using the hospital EHR to identify patients with target risk behaviors and contact them via SMS text message, email, or patient portal. Phase 3 assessed the impact of SMS text messages sent to patients who were identified as smokers or risky drinkers, which signposted them to behavior change apps. The primary outcome was the proportion of participants who clicked on the embedded link in the SMS text message to access information about the apps. The acceptability of the SMS text messages among the patients who had received them was also explored in a web-based survey.ResultsOur electronic signposting strategy—using SMS text messages to promote health behavior change apps to patients at risk—was found to be acceptable and feasible and had good reach. The hospital sent 1526 SMS text messages, signposting patients to either the National Health Service Smokefree or Drink Free Days apps. A total of 13.56% (207/1526) of the patients clicked on the embedded link to the apps, which exceeded our 5% a priori success criterion. Patients and staff contributed to the SMS text message content and delivery approach, which were perceived as acceptable before and after the delivery of the SMS text messages. The feasibility of the SMS text message format was determined and the target population was identified by mining the EHR.ConclusionsThe OptiMine study demonstrated the proof of concept for this novel implementation strategy, which used SMS text messages to signpost at-risk individuals to behavior change apps at scale. How to garner public support for carbon capture, utilization and storage? Comparing narrative and statistical frames among Chinese citizens

To develop an effective communication frame for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) with the public, this study conducts four experiments in China to compare the effectiveness of narrative versus statistical messages in garnering public support for CCUS. The experiments dissect the impact of message types on public acceptance by revealing the mediating effect of perception and the moderating role of delivery modalities and involvement. The findings demonstrate that narratives significantly increase warmth perception, and statistics lead to more competence perception. When the messages are transmitted in text mode, statistics garner more support for CCUS than narratives. In the audio mode, narratives are more effective than statistics. However, the interaction effect between message types and delivery modalities is confined to the recipients with moderate involvement. This study can help optimize the communication strategies of CCUS and provide insights into emerging technologies with limited public awareness.

Effect of oral health promotion interventions on pregnant women dental caries: a field trial

BackgroundDental caries is a costly and very common disease, especially in pregnant women. Reasons such as not paying attention to oral health, poor diet and also lack of adequate education in this regard cause this to happen. Performing well-designed educational interventions using primary health system’s forces, can improve oral health of pregnant women and help control this disease. We conducted this study to evaluate the effectiveness of some oral health interventions on pregnant women dental caries.MethodsA field trial study was done in comprehensive Health Centers in Varamin, Tehran, Iran to assess 439 mothers’ dental health status from pregnancy up to 2 years after delivery in intervention (n = 239) and control groups (n = 200). Mothers in intervention groups received oral health-related education consisted of nutritional and behavioral messages via either of four methods: A: comprehensive method including all following methods together (n = 74), B: group discussion by dentists (n = 59), C: face to face education by primary health care providers (n = 53), and D: social network applications (n = 53); while those in control group only received routine maternal and oral health care. We used a questionnaire to collect mothers’ demographic, socioeconomic and dental care behavior data and also performed oral examinations to assess their DMFT at baseline and 24 months after delivery to evaluate the effectiveness of these educational oral health interventions.ResultsFrom 454 mothers participated the examination session, 18 pregnant women discontinued during the follow-ups and 439 were remained with mean age of 27.47. In the intervention group, the frequency of daily brushing among women increased from 64% at baseline to 85.6% at the last follow-up and the mean D significantly decreased nearly 1unit at same period (P < 0.05). Most and least dental caries changes were in comprehensive intervention group and social network intervention group compared to other intervention groups, respectively.ConclusionsPerforming educational interventions during and after pregnancy using various message delivery methods and messengers (oral health professionals and trained PHCPs), could improve oral health status and behaviors of pregnant and lactating mothers in a feasible and applicable manner.

Channel capacity optimization scheme for safety applications in vehicular ad hoc networks

SummaryVehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) have attracted significant attention due to their safety, traffic management, and infotainment applications. However, vehicular communication suffers from network congestion caused by high vehicle density, which raises numerous challenges for efficiently disseminating emergency messages in vehicular safety applications. This paper aims to solve the problem of capacity optimization of the control channel (CCH) during the delivery of emergency messages. Hence, we propose a novel channel capacity optimization scheme for safety application (CCOSSA). The performance of the CCOSSA scheme is evaluated by performing comprehensive traffic and network simulations regarding various parameters such as the probability of reception, channel busy time (CBT) ratio, and average delay. CCOSSA scheme is compared with the state‐of‐the‐art schemes under varying vehicle density and distance from the source in which the proposed scheme shows an improvement in the performance.

An intelligent edge enabled 6G‐flying ad‐hoc network ecosystem for precision agriculture

AbstractUnmanned aerial vehicle based precision agriculture is a predominant research area. The modern flying ad‐hoc network leverages the advanced low latency vehicular communication and intelligent computing paradigms that help the ecosystem to grow up to the next level. In this work, we propose an ecosystem for precision agriculture that leverages the use of the opportunistic MQTT protocol in an edge‐enabled intelligent drone network for sensing and performing crop prediction using an intelligent ensemble machine learning model. The proposed approach leverages the edge computing system that requires low energy devices and also exploits the ultra‐low latency opportunistic message transfer methodology. The experimental results show the maximum of 0.9 message delivery ratio and a minimum of 600 ms latency is achieved by opportunistic MQTT protocol in an ultra‐low latency sparse network scenario. A weighted ensemble model is deployed onto the edge enabled devices or the drones. An accuracy of 96.5% is achieved in predicting the type of crops that can be grown in the soil about the selected area of interest.

Reassessing Clarification Request Strategies within English-Speaking Japanese Business Discourse: Clarification of Message Delivery and Pragmatic Ambiguity

Objectives: English communication skills are becoming more important in the business context of Japan. To realise smooth communication, the use of clarification requests is considered facilitative. Many companies in Japan have introduced corporate in-house English training as a part of their English-speaking Human Resources development, and many focus on training in the use of clarification requests. However, not much has been understood about how the pragmatics are employed within the English-speaking discourse community by Japanese businesspeople. This study looks at how clarification requests are used by Japanese businesspeople and addresses how they can contribute to realising effective communication in English-speaking business discourse in Japan. Methods: The researcher analyses data retrieved from stimulated role-play. The participants are requested to engage in collective decision-making in their corporate in-house English training. There were 24 participants involved in this study, and they were placed into four teams for cross-sectional comparison. The interaction of the participants was videorecorded and later transcribed to allow for text-based discourse analysis. Results: Our data show that the use of clarification request strategies was observed in all teams. Participants used clarification requests for various kinds of discourse pragmatic functions. Conclusions: It was concluded that teaching clarification request strategies is beneficial for many Japanese businesspeople who wish to develop their English communication competence. However, the potential face-threatening aspect of the use of clarification requests by Japanese speakers of English has been overlooked. This aspect should be taken into consideration when designing/implementing corporate in-house English training in Japanese companies in the future.

Increasing HPV Vaccination Rates Using Text Reminders: An Integrative Review of the Literature.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection among youth in the United States. Although HPV vaccinations are readily available, HPV immunizations remain lower than target rates. The purpose of this review is to consider text message reminder system efficacy to improve HPV vaccination rates in eligible children. A literature review was conducted using Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature and PubMed databases to search articles illustrating the effect of text message reminder systems. Research is primarily conclusive of improved HPV vaccination rates through text message reminder systems, indicating the need for practice guidelines directed at text message delivery and text message content. This integrative review synthesizes and highlights available literature on implementing text message reminder systems to improve HPV vaccination rates. Once the text message reminder system is in place, automatic arrangement of preventive care service is hassle-free for practices.

Peran Media Pembelajaran dalam Komunikasi Instruksional Sekolah Vokasi Pariwisata di Jawa Barat

Learning media as a tool to convey messages or information in the instructional communication process should be able to stimulate attention, interest and improve student memory. For this reason, designing and using learning media is important so that the delivery of learning messages can be achieved effectively. This study aims to find out the importance of the role of learning media in the instructional communication process in the field of tourism expertise in several vocational schools, vocational schools and universities in West Java. The research was conducted qualitatively with the aim of obtaining open and detailed data from informants who expressed their opinions about the learning media used by their teachers/lecturers. The key informants consisted of 24 students from six vocational schools and four universities in West Java, while data triangulation was carried out to 10 lecturers/teachers. The results of the analysis of the four aspects studied show: a. Students really feel the benefits and functions of learning media. b. The availability of learning media in three schools is complete and institutionalized, but in the other seven schools it still depends on the initiative of each teacher. c. Student/student responses to learning media greatly encourage the spirit of learning, it is easier to understand and remember learning materials. d. Barriers to the provision of learning media: limited educational background and experience of teachers/lecturers in the field of pedagogy, limited initiative and creativity of certain teachers/lecturers, not yet requiring teachers to provide media in every lesson, limited school facilities, such as internet networks and LCD projectors. This condition illustrates that this tourism vocational school has not fully designed its learning media properly, because there are differences in the availability of learning media between schools and between teachers, including differences in the level of attractiveness, diversity, suitability and creativity of lecturers/teachers in providing and using them. As a tourism vocational school whose graduates must be ready to work with work competencies that include knowledge, skills and professional work attitudes with a hospitality spirit formed in schools through the learning process. There are three schools that have achieved this well, while the other seven schools still need to improve the quality of learning. through appropriate learning media and based on the competencies and needs of the world of work. The results of this study are expected to be an important input for the implementation of West Java tourism vocational schools.

Sosialisasi dan Analisis Bahaya Hate Speech di Lembaga Kursus &amp; Pelatihan AL-AMIN Tentang

At this time, one of the things that dominates human life is the existence of social media. The free delivery of information, comments, and messages can trigger social media users to make hate speech. At the Al-Amin Course &amp; Training Institute (LKP) which coincided in Garut, almost all of the training participants had social media, so socialization activities were established to prevent them from uttering hate speech. Hate speech is personal designations and epithets that are so vulgar that they can create problems for theory and practice directed against race, religion, ethnicity, gender or preference. Prior to the presentation of the material, a pre-test was carried out and after the training the material was given a post-test to the participants. The results of the pre-test and post-test scores increased understanding and knowledge by 18% related to hate material. From this activity, the training participants received material related to hate so that the trainees could accept and understand everything about hate on social media.

Generic Framing of Strategic News in the Program Transformasi Negara (GTP)

The media and the government are two institutions that need each other to carry out the responsibilities and needs of both parties. The mediahas its own agenda and the government has a policy agenda to be disseminated to the public. The two agendas coupled with the people's agenda are complementary as ultimately the aim is to convey messages on government policies to the public. Government policy must be communicated to the people in a wise manner because the continuity of the leadership of a government also depends on the people's understanding of their well -being and the rights that can be owned. This research will focus on three agendas andtechniques of message delivery through framing to realize the agenda by examining the aspects, words, phrases and sentences used by the media in producing strategic news on government policy. The ultimate goal of this study is to identify the level of effectiveness of strategic news on government policy to the people. This study uses qualitative content analysis method and a total of three newspapers namely Berita Harian, Utusan Malaysiaand Malaysiakini were selected for analysis using the Critical Metaphor Analysis (CMA) approach. The findings of this study found that journalists and newspaper editors use certain words, phrases and sentences to implement generic framing in an effort to facilitate reader comprehension. The formation of this generic framinghelps readers focus their reading even when journalists and editors write on a very heavy issue, which is government policy but can be understood after the reader reviews the strategic news writing. THE QUR'ANIC THERAPEUTIC SPIRITUAL COMMUNICATION ON THE PATIENT'S SPIRITUAL PROBLEMS IN NURSING CARE

This paper discusses the Qur'anic therapeutic, spiritual communication, which is used as an approach to dealing with spiritual problems experienced by patients. In suffering from illness, patients, in addition to needing medical treatment, also need help, guidance, and spiritual services to overcome the psychological shock they experience and support their illness's healing process. This research is library research using a descriptive-analytical approach. Research data is sourced from literature books, journals, books of interpretation, and others that correlate with the discussion. The results of this study indicate that the therapeutic Qur'anic spiritual communication becomes a model for healing the patient's spiritual problems. Delivery of messages containing Qur'anic spirituality by nurses to patients who are strengthened by the ability to express words that are clear, evocative, polite, gentle, helpful, and pleasant, as well as profound experiences of spiritual healing will be a healing power for patients' spiritual problems. Moreover, the spiritual maturity of nurses is no less critical, which is reflected when providing services to patients in the form of showing care, compassion, listening, sincerity, being friendly, smiling, and being patient with the patient's condition. Likewise, do not be arrogant, arrogant, rude, find fault, or indulge in patient disgrace and the like.
