The research study investigates the factors contributing to the low participation of female voters in the 2018 general elections in Tehsil Barikot, District Swat,through 50 unstructured interviews with political representatives and activists. Thematic analysis reveals a variety of obstacles, including cultural barriers, lack of awareness, limited women candidates, restricted polling station access, traditional social norms, gender-based discrimination, security issues, socioeconomic constraints, and more. Despite its specific focus, the study provides valuable insights into the challenges faced by women from diverse backgrounds. Recommendations sare made to address these barriers and promote greater female electoral participation, including cultural awareness campaigns, increased women candidate representation, improved access to polling stations, political education, gender equality measures, and support initiatives.
