Click to increase image sizeClick to decrease image sizeThe thermo-mineral water resources of the Lower Adour, exploited in the "Landes" Department of Southwest France, occur in deep, folded and faulted sedimentary rocks cut through by salt diapirs, part of the Pyrenean foreland structures. The impact of drawing off water for thermal springs, drinking water, geothermal energy, irrigation and for industry, combined with the occupation of underground space for gas storage, generates conflicts in terms of usage. In order to gauge the thermal and salinity effects and to be able to compare the various piezometric measurements within the same hydrodynamic frame of reference, a calculation using an equivalent sweet water load has been undertaken. It shows that in the Dax region there exists a major virtual piezometrie "sink" where, despite this, thermal effects enable waters to rise. This "sink" represents a particularly sensitive area. It is thus proposed to set up a protection zone, establish a steering committee, management procedures and the necessary actions to bring together the various parties concerned with the objective of organising resource exploitation fulfilling the temperature and quality demands of all users.
