Systematization Toward a Tourism Collaboration Network Grounded in Research-Based Learning. Lessons Learned from an International Project in Ecuador

ABSTRACT This article presents the systematization of an international research project between the Universities of Cuenca, Ecuador, and KU Leuven, Belgium, and how records were kept of the process and lessons learned beyond the specific content and results of the project. The project focuses on research-based learning as an approach to support tourism as a means of sustainable development in southern Ecuador. The initiative encourages the application of critical thinking and involves professors, students, communities, and decision-makers. The systematization process relies on verification documents, such as minutes, reports and recordings, which evidence the decision-making and implementation processes to elaborate the project successfully over several years. Through the systematization, it is evident how learning and cooperation relationships have been produced and how a platform has been developed to facilitate research, dissemination and transfer. Therefore, the experiences obtained through this systematization are valuable and transferable to other development projects and research teams.

THE EFFECTS OF ECOTOURISM ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN IRAQ

Tourism is one of the most essential elements of the modern service sector and contributes significantly to countries' economies, including Iraq. It also plays a vital role in increasing national income and improving the balance of payments in foreign exchange. It aims to provide job opportunities for the workforce and implement development programs. The research problem is identifying Ecotourism's effects on sustainable development in Iraq. The main objectives of the research are: What is the meaning and concept of Ecotourism and sustainable development, and what are the requirements for its application? What is the importance of Ecotourism as the most critical type of modern tourism? How do ecotourism dimensions impact sustainable development in Iraq? The most crucial search results: 1- The dimensions of sustainable development were represented in the environmental dimensions, social and political dimensions, economic dimensions 2- The research results showed that ecotourism principles take into account nature - ecological sustainability - environmental culture - and tourism satisfaction. 3- The environmental impact of Ecotourism on development was represented in (Ecotourism efforts lead to the continued reduction of energy and natural resource consumption) - The state should be able to reduce the problem of pollution as long as it has the financial and technical, and human resources to ensure the use of cleaner technologies and fewer resources - An ethical and ethical approach to Ecotourism.

Arahan Sistem Pertanian Ideal Berbasis Potensi Sumberdaya Lahan: Komponen Dasar Cukilan Smart Village

In recent years, the concept of smart villages has gained increasing prominence as a means of encouraging sustainable development in rural areas. This is particularly relevant in the agricultural sector, where the potential of land resources is crucial. Cukilan Village, located in Suruh District, Semarang Regency, Central Java, is primarily an agricultural area, with over 80% of its land designated for agricultural purposes. The village government has expressed a desire to develop Cukilan as a smart village through an FGD process. Based on this background, a community service program was implemented with the aim of designing Cukilan Village as a smart village in stages, to enhance economic growth and prosperity by leveraging the potential of agricultural resources and human resources, as well as accelerating the village development process. The method for implementing this PKM (Community Service) program utilized the Assets-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which involved outreach, discussion, mapping of agroecological zones, as well as land suitability and evaluation. As a result of this initiative, the Cukilan Village government received guidance for an ideal agricultural system based on land resource potential, which serves as a basic component towards the realization of Cukilan Smart Village.

Implementation of Environmental Education Based on Madura Local Wisdom to Increase Student Scientific Literacy

Environmental Education is a lecture process that provides insight to students regarding the understanding and awareness of the environment as a means of sustainable development. Environmental education lectures can be used as a means to improve students' science literacy skills. Science literacy skills can increase in learning associated with local wisdom. Local wisdom has an important relationship with education, this is important for the development of education, so the educational process must be conducive to connecting learning with the environment. Therefore, local wisdom needs to be associated with learning, one of which is with environmental education lectures. The purpose of this research is to improve students' science literacy skills applied to Environmental Education lectures based on Madura local wisdom. This research is a quantitative descriptive research. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, documentation and tests. Then, the data obtained was analyzed using quantitative descriptive data analysis. The results showed that science literacy in the science process domain for indicators identified scientific problems by 7.6%, explained scientific phenomena by 7.4%, and used scientific evidence by 66%. The achievement of science literacy in the science content domain was 78% (good category). Science literacy in the realm of students' attitudes towards science as a whole reached 76.3% (good category). The average result of students' overall science literacy achievement was 72% (sufficient category). Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that research on the Implementation of Environmental Education Lectures Based on Madura Local Wisdom to Improve Student Scientific Literacy can improve students' science literacy skills and teach environmental conservation and local wisdom on Madura Island

Considering the large-scale aggravation of the global environmental problem, despite the nearly thirty-year implementation of the Concept of Sustainable Development, developed in Rio de Janeiro (1992),it needs additional researchand justification today. The very fact of a large-scale aggravation of the global environmental problem makes one doubt the methodological correctness of the concept. Since the consumption of natural resources, and, therefore,the ecological state of the environment dependsto a large extent on the understanding of the ecological essence of energy relations in ecosystems, it is worth focusing on the scientific provisions of the domestic school of physical economy, elaborated inthe works of Serhiy Podolinskyi, VolodymyrVernadskyi,Mykola Rudenko, Viktor Pysmak . It is in accordance with these provisions that the system of criteria-indicators of sustainable development requires revision. A new vision of the theoretical foundations for the development of such indicators is proposed.The authors saturate the modern, post-industrial understanding of the meaning of sustainable development with noospheric content. Evolution of the spatiotemporal pattern of China's grain production in the past 20 years and its driving mechanism.

Food security is a goal and means of global sustainable development, and an important component of China's national security. Based on grain production data from 2000 to 2020, 31 provinces (cities, autonomous regions) in China were used as research units to analyze the spatiotemporal differences and driving forces of grain production in China using a combination of local correlation index, center of gravity transfer model, and geographic detector. The results as follows, ① During the research period, China's total grain production showed a decrease followed by an increase, and the yield per unit area of grain showed an increasing trend. Corn has become the "largest staple food" in China; ② During the research period, the focus of China's grain production continued to shift northward, with Heilongjiang, Henan and Shandong provinces becoming the main grain production areas, with Henan being the province where China's grain production center was located. Among the factors affecting grain yield, the effective irrigation area (0.971) has the strongest explanatory power. Finally, countermeasures and suggestions were proposed from five aspects, stabilizing grain production, reducing grain inventory pressure, implementing regional grain security responsibilities, improving grain circulation efficiency, promoting high-quality grain engineering construction, adjusting grain production structure, strictly implementing farmland protection responsibilities, scientifically applying pesticides, fertilizers and other production materials, emphasizing agricultural infrastructure construction and stabilizing the number of agricultural labor force.

AR-Based Food Traceability as a Means for Sustainable Development

This paper focuses on traceability as a means to ensure sustainability during food development by using augmented reality and addressing the needs of farmers/producers, development and retail companies, and consumers. After reviewing related work, the needs are outlined for an application with a highly visual interface that lets all involved parties insert, explore, and view data about food products, starting from their origin and dietary/heritage value until their placement in a market. In this direction, the research questions examined the usability of such an application along with its validity concerning whether customers would choose healthy food products based on certain criteria, ensuring sustainability at all levels. Data are selected from predefined lists where possible and propagated without disruption from farmers to markets to avoid errors. The analysis led to the AR application, FoodTrace, whose design and prototype implementation are also presented. The evaluation was encouraging as the research goals were largely met regarding both usability and content value and will help further develop the application.

Abstract Internet of Things (IoT) in the context of Smart Homes has been an emerging area of study. IoT technology-enabled provides Integrated and centralized monitoring and control system where the inhabitants can remotely adjust access in the house, temperature and lighting etc., but also functions of the smart TV, refrigerator, oven etc. A step forward to this, Smart 2.0 can be achieved by integrating greeneries maintenance atomization, energy and water conservation, etc., with the IoT technologies to maintain a healthy indoor environment. The study focus on how IoT enabled Smart Homes can contribute, enabling a new era of development and growth aimed at achieving Sustainability. A critical literature review and factors are identified that will align the development catering to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, 2015 and the UN-Habitat New Urban Agenda, 2016 which are today’s International Agendas aimed at achieving Sustainable Development. Well-planned and well-managed IoT enabled Smart Homes in the context of urbanization, can be a powerful tool for sustainable development for both developing and developed nations. Achievement of SDGs especially, Goal 3, 6, 7 and 11 is impossible without the role of technology. With the proper delivery and implementation of IoT enabled Smart Homes, safeguarding the sustainability of Cities and Communities is possible. IoT in Smart Home keep the power, water, temperature, ventilation systems, solar power, greeneries and waste in check which in turn leads to sustainability. An IoT enabled Smart Home model for Sustainability has been proposed.

System for Monitoring the Safety and Movement Mechanics of Users of Bicycles and Electric Scooters in Real Conditions in the Context of Social Sustainability

Sustainable development means taking care of the environment, which also means promoting green transport, which involves the systematic development of personal transport in its broadest sense. The positive aspects associated with cheap and convenient electric transport are intertwined with the problem of collisions and accidents. While developing road infrastructure for electric vehicles such as scooters, bicycles, and others, research should be conducted in parallel to ensure the highest possible level of safety for users. There is also an increase in the number of people using bicycles and electric scooters, which develop significant speeds. The problem of accidents among users of classic and electric bicycles and scooters is evident, and post-accident injuries pose a serious challenge to medical practitioners. The literature is rich in statistical analyses of accidents among users of scooters and bicycles, but there are no studies where the behaviour of users of bicycles, scooters, etc. is analysed. The authors of this study set out to develop a measurement system to assess the traffic safety of people using bicycles and scooters. The device uses LIDAR to record the speed of the vehicle and a camera, the images of which are processed by an algorithm in order to classify the user as being on a bicycle or scooter and using or not using head protection with a helmet. It is also possible to analyse the behaviour of the vehicle users under study. The article describes the built measurement device and presents the results of the initial measurements made by the device.

Contribution of the Halal Industry to Sustainable Economic Development in Indonesia: A Bibliometric Analysis

This study aims to investigate how the development of the halal industry promotes sustainable economic growth in Indonesia using bibliometric methods. The research employs bibliometric analysis with Publish or Perish and VOSviewer to map the literature and provide an overview. Based on the results of a systematic literature review, the researchers identified 500 Google Scholar articles from 2015 to 2023 through searches using Publish or Perish. The data was analyzed using VOSviewer to map the contribution of the halal industry to sustainable economic development. The results of the mapping are divided into three clusters: cluster 1 for economic development and growth, cluster 2 for the halal industry, and cluster 3 for halal tourism. The findings indicate that the halal industry in Indonesia plays a strategic role in economic growth. The halal industry can serve as a means for economic empowerment, employment expansion, and sustainable development, thereby enhancing the country's industrial competitiveness and boosting the national economy.

The objective of this research paper is to explain the Vedic knowledge in the context of the sustainable development as a modern concept and to find the facts related to environment and development. The research is qualitatively designed using available secondary sources of information and knowledge of Vedas, Upanishads, Purans and Niti Sholkas related to environment and sustainable development. To make it more informative, interviews were carried out with key informants as primary sources of data. As mentioned in the Atharvaved, earth is assumed as mother and all creatures are her children, which showed the positive attitude of environment protection. The emphasis on the purity and protection of river, jungle and air needs to be revived and only then the concept of sustainable development can be meaningful. Vedic literature will be much useful to understand the concept of development in a comprehensive way. It is notable fact that the earth is useful for humans as well as for all creatures of the world and for the whole universe. Only the way to protect the universe from tensions, pollutions, war and conflicts is Vedic concept that regards the universe as a family. Only by incorporating Vedic knowledge into the concept of modern development can we meet the standards of sustainable development.

Research on the Recyclable Design of Wooden Furniture Based on the Recyclability Evaluation

With the rapid development of the economy and the change in people’s aesthetic concepts, the renewal of furniture has become more and more frequent. Among the huge amount of used furniture, solid wood and wood-based panel furniture account for the vast majority, but the imperfective recycling system and insufficient recycling efforts result in serious waste, which is contrary to the low-carbon transition and sustainable development means. Based on the whole life-cycle theory of products, the recyclable designability of wooden furniture at all stages of design, manufacturing, sales, use, and recycling was researched and analyzed, and feasible suggestions to the government, enterprises, and consumers were proposed respectively. In particular, an evaluation index system and evaluation model for the recyclability of wooden furniture were established with an aim of quantitatively analyzing the recycling of wooden furniture, which will provide certain references not only to achieve reasonable recycling and disposal of used furniture but also to solve the furniture recycling issues from various levels.
