Implanted Rhombus Ring Partial Inset-Fed Circularly Polarized Microstrip Monopole Antenna for WBAN Applications

In the present article, a design approach to accomplish circular polarization-based rhombus ring microstrip-fed monopole antenna working at 5.8 GHz for wireless body area network (WBAN) applications is proposed. The input impedance calculation using an electromagnetic theory of transmission line in a travelling wave coupled to the parallel-plate inductor model is conducted. Radiated electric field pattern calculation of the conventional square ring microstrip patch antenna (MSPA) using Biot and Savart’s law is reported. The circular polarization of the proposed antenna is accomplished by loading the radiating path with a capacitive element sectioned in the neighbourhood of the feed line. The proposed planar monopole antenna of volume 0.38λ0×0.38λ0×0.029λ0 (λ0 is evaluated at the resonant frequency of 5.8 GHz) achieves a -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 86.20% in the band (3-8 GHz) with a stable real gain of 8.29 dBic in circular polarization at the resonant frequency of 5.8 GHz and axial ration bandwidth of about 32.75% in the (5-6.9 GHz) band. Specific absorption rate (SAR) evaluation of the studied antenna is computed numerically on a part of the human phantom model to justify its use in WBAN applications. It is noted that the maximum amount of radiation absorbed by a part of the human phantom model is limited to a maximum SAR value of 1.45 W/kg and 0.754 W/kg on 1 g and 10 g of tissue mass, respectively. The prospective design has been fabricated and tested, and the experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation outcomes.

The effect of frequency (64-498MHz) on specific absorption rate adjacent to metallic orthopedic screws in MRI: A numerical simulation study.

The imaging of patients with implanted electrically-conductive devices via magnetic resonance imaging at ultra-high fields is hampered by uncertainties relating to the potential for inducing tissue heating adjacent to the implant due to coupling of energy from the incident electromagnetic field into the implant. Existing data in the peer-reviewed literature of comparisons across field strengths of tissue heating and its surrogate, the specific absorption rate (SAR), is scarce and contradictory, leading to further doubts pertaining to the safety of imaging patients with such devices. The radiofrequency-induced SAR adjacent to orthopedic screws of varying length and at frequencies of 64 to 498MHz was investigated via full-wave electromagnetic simulations, to provide an accurate comparison of SAR across MRI field strengths. Dipole antennas were used for RF transmission to achieve a uniform electric field tangential to the screws located 120mm above the antenna midpoints, embedded in a bone-mimicking material. The input power to the antennas was constrained to achieve the following targets without the screw present: (i) E=100V/m, (ii) B1 + =2 μT, and (iii) global-average-SAR=3.2W/kg. Simulations were performed with a spatial resolution of 0.2mm in the volume surrounding the screws, resulting in 76-137 MCells, noting the maximum 1g-averaged SAR value in each case. Simulations were repeated at 128 and 297MHz for screws embedded in muscle tissue. The peak SAR, occurring at the resonant screw length, substantially increased as the frequency decreased when the input power to the dipole antenna was constrained to achieve constant electric field in background tissue at the screws' locations. A similar pattern was observed when constraining input power to achieve constant B1 + and global-average-SAR. The dielectric properties of the tissue in which the screws were embedded dominated the SAR comparisons between 297 and 128MHz. The study design allowed for a direct comparison to be performed of SAR across frequencies and implant lengths without the confounding effect of variable incident electric field. Lower frequencies produced substantially larger SAR values for implants approaching the resonant length for the worst-case uniform incident electric field along the screws' length. The data may inform risk-benefit assessments for imaging patients with orthopedic implants at the new clinical field strength of 7Tesla.

Local SAR management strategies to use two-channel RF shimming for fetal MRI at 3 T.

This study evaluates the imaging performance of two-channel RF-shimming for fetal MRI at 3 T using four different local specific absorption rate (SAR) management strategies. Due to the ambiguity of safe local SAR levels for fetal MRI, local SAR limits for RF shimming were determined based on either each individual's own SAR levels in standard imaging mode (CP mode) or the maximum SAR level observed across seven pregnant body models in CP mode. Local SAR was constrained either indirectly by further constraining the whole-body SAR (wbSAR) or directly by using subject-specific local SAR models. Each strategy was evaluated by the improvement of the transmit field efficiency (average |B1 + |) and nonuniformity (|B1 + | variation) inside the fetus compared with CP mode for the same wbSAR. Constraining wbSAR when using RF shimming decreases B1 + efficiency inside the fetus compared with CP mode (by 12%-30% on average), making it inefficient for SAR management. Using subject-specific models with SAR limits based on each individual's own CP mode SAR value, B1 + efficiency and nonuniformity are improved on average by 6% and 13% across seven pregnant models. In contrast, using SAR limits based on maximum CP mode SAR values across seven models, B1 + efficiency and nonuniformity are improved by 13% and 25%, compared with the best achievable improvement without SAR constraints: 15% and 26%. Two-channel RF-shimming can safely and significantly improve the transmit field inside the fetus when subject-specific models are used with local SAR limits based on maximum CP mode SAR levels in the pregnant population.

Terahertz Microstrip Patch Antenna for Breast Tumour Detection

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among Malaysian women. It is critical to discover strategies to detect the tumour early on. Terahertz (THz) frequency provides excellent qualities for detecting tumours such as low photon energy and non-ionising radiation as compared to prior methods such as mammography, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that use optical to X-ray frequencies. The purpose of this work is to analyse and locate a breast tumour as well as to compute the maximum specific absorption rate (SAR) value. It was designed a THz rectangular microstrip patch antenna with an inset feed. To improve the antenna's performance, graphene was used for the patch and polyimide for the substrate. This antenna covered a bandwidth of 31.6 GHz and worked in the frequency range of 0.283-0.599 THz. To identify the location of a tumour, compute the SAR value, and localise the tumour, SAR simulation was used. The maximum SAR shifted to the tumor's position due to greater absorption rate around its tissue due to higher dielectric constant features. It was calculated that 1e-05g of average mass is required to be less than total tissue mass, which is 2.0063e-05g. SAR study revealed a maximum SAR value of 2.49391e+06 W/kg, which was not more than the overall absorption rate for human body safety. The SAR calculation result revealed that the tumour is within the range of the tumor's initial location.

Specific Absorption Rate and Temperature Distributions in the Human Head with Implanted Deep Brain Stimulation Subjected to Mobile Phone Electromagnetic Radiation

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), also known as the brain pacemaker, has gradually evolved from a scientific experiment into an effective clinical treatment for movement disorders as a method of improving movement disorders. At present, there are few studies on the effects of 5G mobile phone antenna radiation on the heads of adult patients implanted with DBS. In this study, COMSOL Multiphysics was used to establish a mobile phone model with a 5G/4G patch antenna, a real human head, and the DBS models. Then, we calculated the specific absorption rate (SAR) of various layers of the head tissues with the mobile phone at different distances from the human head, as well as the temperature change rule of the head and the DBS irradiated by the antenna for 30 min. The simulation results showed that when the frequency is 3500 MHz, the electromagnetic radiation of the phone to the patient’s head is generally greater than that of the 2400 MHz. When at 3500 MHz, the distance between the phone and the head is inversely proportional to the SAR value; thus, when the distance between the phone and the head is 1 cm, the maximum SAR value—which is 1.132 W/kg—appeared in the skin layer of the head with implanted DBS. But it is worth noting that the largest temperature rise appeared in the brain layer at 2400 MHz and at a distance of 1 cm, which is 0.2148 °C. Although the SAR values and temperature rise obtained from all simulations are below the limits of 2 W/kg and +1 °C specified by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), we still recommend that patients with implanted DBS maintain a distance when using the phones.

Functional analysis in the body environment for a circularly polarized hybrid reconfigurable textile antenna

This paper presents the functional analysis of a hybrid reconfigurable circularly polarized (CP) textile antenna in different on-body environments. The Tai-Chi sign inspires the current textile antenna design, where the primary radiator and ground elements are sickle-shaped structures. Hybrid reconfigurability was achieved by successfully operating two RF PIN-Diodes in the basal ground plane’s elliptical and rectangular structures. Thus, four switching states are attained by operating the textenna at 3.5, 4.5 and 5.4 GHz in the S1. 4.39 and 5.8 GHz in S2, 5 and 5.9 GHz in S3 and 2.4, 4.3, 5.8, and 9.4 GHz in S4 state. The reconfigurable textenna was devised to function on the human body. Its functional behavior in proximity to the human body was rigorously validated through testing involving bending at various vertical and horizontal angles. Additionally, a Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) analysis was conducted using a three-layered human phantom. The results revealed that the maximum SAR value is below 1.6 W Kg−1 for 1 gram of tissue and 2 W kg−1 for 10 grams of tissue. These findings establish the safe operational parameters for the proposed model. The developed antenna functionalities were also tested in other circumstances like body sweating environment and interaction with body fluids (Blood, Plasma, SBF and DMEM). In these body fluid conditions, a peak gain of 4.88 dBi at S1, 6.97 dBi at S2, 7.99 dBi at S3, and 4.13 dBi at S4, was observed while interacting with Plasma, and the measured efficiency in the above configuration is between 77%–79%. The textenna durability analysis was measured using an electrochemical workstation while interacting with different body fluids. All these results confessed the applicability of the developed antennas for on-body wireless communication applications in different on-body conditions.

Hyperthermia Efficacy of PEGylated-PLGA Coated Monodisperse Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

Magnetic nano hyperthermia (MNH) is a promising technique for the treatment of a variety of malignancies. This non-invasive technique employs magnetic nanoparticles and alternating magnetic fields to generate local heat at the tumor location, which activates cell death pathways. However, the efficacy of MNH is dependent on the physicochemical properties of the magnetic nanoparticles, such as size, size distribution, magnetic properties, biocompatibility, and dispersibility in the medium. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the heating capacity of poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid)-poly (ethylene glycol) di-block copolymer (PLGA-b-PEG) coated monodisperse iron oxide nanoparticles (IONs) as an effective mediator for MNH application. For this purpose, monodisperse IONs with a narrow size distribution and a mean particle size of 8.6 nm have been synthesized via the thermal decomposition method. The resulting IONs were then coated with the PEGylated-PLGA polymer and homogeneously dispersed in the polymeric matrix, which had a clearly defined spherical shape. Additionally, the specific absorption rate (SAR), reflecting the amount of heat dissipation from the NPs to the surrounding medium, was calculated for different concentrations (10, 5, 2.5, and 1.25 mg/mL) of PEGylated-PLGA-IONs. At 5 mg/mL PEGylated-PLGA-IONs (125 μgFe/mL) were found to have a maximum SAR value of 313 W/g. In conclusion, the homogenous dispersion of IONs in PEGylated-PLGA matrix may be one of the critical parameters to enhance the SAR value for MNH-based cancer therapy.

Parachute shape ultra‐wideband wearable antenna for remote health care monitoring

SummaryWireless body area networks (WBAN) is used to measure patients' health conditions continuously. Different kinds of sensors are required to measure health conditions. When such types of antennas are used on the human body, they are flexible with the movements. The usage of wearable devices is currently increasing in the biomedical field. The presented wearable antenna is suitable for biomedical applications. The presented ultra‐wideband (UWB) flexible parachute shape wearable antenna is fabricated on a jeans textile substrate. The prototype antenna has a −10 dB measured impedance bandwidth of 5800 MHz (7 to 12.8 GHz) with average radiation efficiency of 75.28%. The prototype antenna's size is 40 × 40 mm2 (1.32 × 1.32 at centre frequency 9.9 GHz) and a peak gain of 4.5 dB at 12.33 GHz. The fabricated antenna is suitable for biomedical applications in X‐band frequencies and can be implemented with a low‐cost manufacturing process. The radiating element is made by conductive copper tape. Muscle‐equivalent phantoms are used to analyze the body effect on antenna performance. The radiation effect emitted by the presented antenna on the human body is calculated by the specific absorption rate (SAR) value. The maximum SAR value of the proposed antenna is 1.84 W/kg at 12.33 GHz. This leads to promising results for wearable applications related to remote health care monitoring, such as biotelemetry and mobile health with a sensor‐driven approach.

FDTD-based SAR calculation of a wearable antenna for wireless body area network devices

AbstractWireless-connected wearable electronics are finding extensive usage for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes after the globally spread pandemic disease of COVID-19. Although they are undoubtedly helpful for keeping physical distance, their health effects are still under investigation from different aspects and are still a concern for the end-users. In this study, a custom M-shaped wearable antenna covering the wireless body area network and wireless local area network frequencies is designed, built, and measured. A beret cap made from a 2 mm thick textile is used as a substrate. The specific absorption rate (SAR) in a realistic human-head model due to electromagnetic energy produced by the antenna is evaluated using the finite-difference time-domain method. The SAR distributions for 1-g and 10-g tissues are calculated at 2.4 and 5.8 GHz. It is shown that the obtained maximum SAR values for 1-g and 10-g tissues at each frequency of interest were less than the limits determined by IEEE RF exposure guidelines and standards.

Hyperthermia of Magnetically Soft-Soft Core-Shell Ferrite Nanoparticles

Magnetically soft-soft MnFe2O4-Fe3O4 core-shell nanoparticles were synthesized through a seed-mediated method using the organometallic decomposition of metal acetyl acetonates. Two sets of core-shell nanoparticles (S1 and S2) of similar core sizes of 5.0 nm and different shell thicknesses (4.1 nm for S1 and 5.7 nm for S2) were obtained by changing the number of nucleating sites. Magnetic measurements were conducted on the nanoparticles at low and room temperatures to study the shell thickness and temperature dependence of the magnetic properties. Interestingly, both core-shell nanoparticles showed similar saturation magnetization, revealing the ineffective role of the shell thickness. In addition, the coercivity in both samples displayed similar temperature dependencies and magnitudes. Signatures of spin glass (SG) like behavior were observed from the field-cooled temperature-dependent magnetization measurements. It was suggested to be due to interface spin freezing. We observed a slight and non-monotonic temperature-dependent exchange bias in both samples with slightly higher values for S2. The effective magnetic anisotropy constant was calculated to be slightly larger in S2 than that in S1. The magnetothermal efficiency of the chitosan-coated nanoparticles was determined by measuring the specific absorption rate (SAR) under an alternating magnetic field (AMF) at 200-350 G field strengths and frequencies (495.25-167.30 kHz). The S2 nanoparticles displayed larger SAR values than the S1 nanoparticles at all field parameters. A maximum SAR value of 356.5 W/g was obtained for S2 at 495.25 kHz and 350 G for the 1 mg/mL nanoparticle concentration of ferrogel. We attributed this behavior to the larger interface SG regions in S2, which mediated the interaction between the core and shell and thus provided indirect exchange coupling between the core and shell phases. The SAR values of the core-shell nanoparticles roughly agreed with the predictions of the linear response theory. The concentration of the nanoparticles was found to affect heat conversion to a great extent. The in vitro treatment of the MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cell line and HT-29 human colorectal cancer cell was conducted at selected frequencies and field strengths to evaluate the efficiency of the nanoparticles in killing cancer cells. The cellular cytotoxicity was estimated using flow cytometry and an MTT assay at 0 and 24 h after treatment with the AMF. The cells subjected to a 45 min treatment of the AMF (384.50 kHz and 350 G) showed a remarkable decrease in cell viability. The enhanced SAR values of the core-shell nanoparticles compared to the seeds with the most enhancement in S2 is an indication of the potential for tailoring nanoparticle structures and hence their magnetic properties for effective heat generation.

Low-profile high gain circularly polarized CRLH transmission line inspired antenna with artificial magnetic conductor for wearable applications

AbstractIn this work, a compact, wideband, circularly polarized wearable antenna is proposed using asymmetric coplanar strip feeding for wireless health monitor applications in the ISM frequency band. The proposed antenna consists of a composite right/left transmission line (CRLH TL) inspired structure to achieve compactness and a rectangular ring slot is created in the metallic ground to enhance the CP radiation of the antenna. A 5 × 5 artificial magnetic conductor unit cell-based metasurface is designed which is operating at 2.4 GHz as a ground plane for the CRLH-based CP antenna. Implementation of AMC-based metasurface as a ground plane results in enhancement of radiation characteristics of CRLH TL antenna. The proposed antenna has a small footprint of 50 × 50 mm2 with measured impedance bandwidth of 2.3–3.2 GHz. The 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 2.36–2.78 GHz with peak gain of 5.89 dBi. Simulation and experimental results show that proposed AMC-based antenna is robust in terms of structural deformation. Further, to validate the performance of the antenna for biomedical applications, we have simulated the proposed antenna with human phantom model. The proposed antenna exhibits stable scattering and radiation characteristics with the phantom body environment and due to the inclusion of AMC structure, the proposed design satisfies maximum specific absorption rate value given as per the IEEE standard safety guidelines.

ANALYSES OF SOME CALL FACTORS AFFECTING SAR LEVELS OF GSM MOBILE PHONES USED IN GHANA.

In response to mounting radiofrequency health concerns, this study was constituted to provide critical scientific data and assess any potential exposure from global system for mobile communication mobile phones. Specific absorption rate (SAR) from phones approved by the regulator and untested/unapproved phones were measured with a ComoSAR system. The maximum 10 g SAR (0.51 W/kg) and 1 g SAR (0.99 W/kg) measured were 25 and 62% of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection and Federal Communication Commission limits, respectively. The approved phone produced statistically significant higher SAR values relative to the untested phone. SAR values of the right ear were relatively higher. All maximum SAR values were recorded on the right ear. The regulatory approval status of the phone, phone's orientation to the head, operating frequency channel and in which ear (right or left) the phone is used influenced the SAR measured. The SAR values of the approved phone compared favourably with similar studies while the unapproved phone does not.

A Novel Approach of a Low-Cost UWB Microwave Imaging System with High Resolution Based on SAR and a New Fast Reconstruction Algorithm for Early-Stage Breast Cancer Detection.

In this article, a new efficient and robust approach—the high-resolution microwave imaging system—for early breast cancer diagnosis is presented. The core concept of the proposed approach is to employ a combination of a newly proposed delay-and-sum (DAS) algorithm and the specific absorption rate (SAR) parameter to provide high image quality of breast tumors, along with fast image processing. The new algorithm enhances the tumor response by altering the parameter referring to the distance between the antenna and the tumor in the conventional DAS matrices. This adjustment entails a much clearer reconstructed image with short processing time. To achieve these aims, a high directional Vivaldi antenna is applied around a simulated hemispherical breast model with an embedded tumor. The detection of the tumor is carried out by calculating the maximum value of SAR inside the breast model. Consequently, the antenna position is relocated near the tumor region and is moved to nine positions in a trajectory path, leading to a shorter propagation distance in the image-creation process. At each position, the breast model is illuminated with short pulses of low power waves, and the back-scattered signals are recorded to produce a two-dimensional image of the scanned breast. Several simulations of testing scenarios for reconstruction imaging are investigated. These simulations involve different tumor sizes and materials. The influence of the number of antennas on the reconstructed images is also examined. Compared with the results from the conventional DAS, the proposed technique significantly improves the quality of the reconstructed images, and it detects and localizes the cancer inside the breast with high quality in a fast computing time, employing fewer antennas.

A novel SAR reduction technique for implantable antenna using conformal absorber metasurface.

In this paper, a conformal absorber metasurface has been designed and used for reducing the specific absorption rate (SAR) of an implantable antenna. SAR reduction of implantable antennas is one of the significant design aspects to be considered for their use in modern-day healthcare applications. The introduction of the absorber metasurface restricts the back radiation of the antenna to control the SAR value. This technique decreases the maximum SAR value by 24% and also reduces the average SAR distribution significantly without affecting the desired antenna gain. A reduction in SAR value indicates the decrease in radiation absorption by human tissue, and thus, decreases the possibility of health hazards due to EM radiation. Later, this antenna-absorber system is designed as a capsule module for increased mobility and less-invasiveness. The redundancy of invasive surgery increases acceptance of the capsule module designs of implantable antennas and devices for various biomedical usages. In vitro testing of the fabricated prototype has been carried out inside a multi-layer porcine slab to verify the effectiveness of this unique SAR reduction technique.

Low-SAR Back Cover Mobile Antenna

A novel antenna design with a low specific absorption rate (SAR) is introduced. The antenna has a very low profile and it is designed to be placed on the back cover of a mobile device at around 2 GHz. The solution is based on nested loops which distribute the field over a large volume so that the maximum SAR value remains relatively low in the user’s tissue. The proposed design also provides relatively good efficiency, considering the extremely low profile, and the close proximity of lossy human tissue and the phone’s main body. The manufactured prototype exhibits almost 50 % lower maximum SAR than a patch antenna used as a reference.

An Investigation Using Specific Absorption Rate Analysis to Diagnose Early- stage Breast Tumor using UWB Antenna.

This work was focused on the detection of early-stage breast tumors and their location. The most frequently seen disease progression and mortality in women's lives is Breast Cancer. Because of breast cancer/tumors, the risk of mortality for women has risen exponentially. From the 2020 deadline for breast cancer, women who died from carcinoma were 123.8 cases per lac women between 2006-2010. This problem is also overcome by the early identification of the tumor using different detection procedures like X-ray mammography, computerized tomography, ultrasound imaging technique, Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), microwave imaging. Researchers carried out multiple studies in these areas. To detect early-stage breast tumors and their location using SAR analysis. The major dielectrical difference between cancerous breast tissues and normal tissues in this technique is the microwave frequency range. The term Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) describes the amount of energy which is absorbed (W/kg) in the breast tissue. This segment illustrates the usefulness to diagnose the tumor position in the breast by means of maximum SAR value coordinates. Changes in breast and tumor size are important for the risk of diagnosis. The power absorbed in connecting with a normal breast and a tumor breast is measured and equivalent for different breast masses. The maximum SAR is also analyzed at distinct tumor locations at various frequency ranges. It is observed that max SAR coordinates are very close to the actual tumor location. So, the maximal value of SAR coordinates indicates the existence of a tumor in the breast phantom. The simulated data above strongly suggests that the Max SAR values were higher in the breast phantom with tumor as compared to the breast without tumor. With different tumor radius (3 mm and 5 mm) analyzed with different resonant frequencies like 3GHz, 4GHz and 5GHz at the actual tumor location of (0, 0, 35). Even though a model representing the real properties of breast tissue is required to assess the validation of any imaging process, so the real-time development of an equivalent breast phantom and its execution is needed.

Human Body Specific Absorption Rate Reduction Employing a Compact Magneto-Dielectric AMC Structure for 5G Massive-MIMO Applications

A compact artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) structure for the application of specific absorption rate (SAR) reduction is presented in this paper. A magneto-dielectric (MD) structure as a host of AMC substrate is used to miniaturize the AMC size. The magneto-dielectric has been designed with a low-profile spiral loop in a way to have a high permittivity and permeability for the desired center frequency of 3.5 GHz. Simulation results confirm the zero-degree reflection phase of the proposed AMC unit cell. Moreover, a 70% reduction has been achieved in comparison to the conventional AMC. To validate the simulation results, a prototype of the board is fabricated and measured with a coplanar waveguide (CPW) antenna for the reflection coefficient. The measurement results display an excellent agreement with the simulation ones. A VOXEL model of a human body is utilized to determine the SAR value of the proposed structure. Considering the maximum SAR value for an average of 10 g human tissue, more than 70% SAR reduction is verified for the CPW antenna with the recommended MD-AMC structure compared to a conventional single CPW antenna.

In Vitro Evaluation of Hyperthermia Magnetic Technique Indicating the Best Strategy for Internalization of Magnetic Nanoparticles Applied in Glioblastoma Tumor Cells

This in vitro study aims to evaluate the magnetic hyperthermia (MHT) technique and the best strategy for internalization of magnetic nanoparticles coated with aminosilane (SPIONAmine) in glioblastoma tumor cells. SPIONAmine of 50 and 100 nm were used for specific absorption rate (SAR) analysis, performing the MHT with intensities of 50, 150, and 300 Gauss and frequencies varying between 305 and 557 kHz. The internalization strategy was performed using 100, 200, and 300 µgFe/mL of SPIONAmine, with or without Poly-L-Lysine (PLL) and filter, and with or without static or dynamic magnet field. The cell viability was evaluated after determination of MHT best condition of SPIONAmine internalization. The maximum SAR values of SPIONAmine (50 nm) and SPIONAmine (100 nm) identified were 184.41 W/g and 337.83 W/g, respectively, using a frequency of 557 kHz and intensity of 300 Gauss (≈23.93 kA/m). The best internalization strategy was 100 µgFe/mL of SPIONAmine (100 nm) using PLL with filter and dynamic magnet field, submitted to MHT for 40 min at 44 °C. This condition displayed 70.0% decreased in cell viability by flow cytometry and 68.1% by BLI. We can conclude that our study is promising as an antitumor treatment, based on intra- and extracellular MHT effects. The optimization of the nanoparticles internalization process associated with their magnetic characteristics potentiates the extracellular acute and late intracellular effect of MHT achieving greater efficiency in the therapeutic process.

Analysis of a Compact Multi-Band Textile Antenna for WBAN and WLAN Applications

A dual-band wearable antenna is designed on a textile material. The design operates at ISM bands available for Wireless Body Area Network and Wireless Local Area Network with an input match better than -15 dB. The antenna is designed by using Computational Electromagnetic Software (CEMS) based on finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. A three-layer phantom model including skin, fat and muscle has been considered to compute the specific absorption rate (SAR). The maximum value of SAR averaged over 1g and 10g of tissue is less than 1.6 W/Kg and 2 W/Kg, respectively, when the maximum incident power of the antenna is 63 mW. These values are incompliance with the international electromagnetic safety standards.

A Wideband Circular Polarization Implantable Antenna for Health Monitor Microsystem

A compact implantable antenna is proposed for wireless health monitor microsystem, which is operated in frequency of the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band. A circular radiator is cut four L-shaped slots and loading a shortpin between the radiator and ground plane to implement the circular polarization. Two crossed rectangle slots are etched on the ground plane so that the impedance and axial ratio (AR) bandwidths have been expanded at the same time. In addition, to further verify the performance of the antenna for biomedical application, we simulate a microsystem that monitors human health; and establish the simulation environment of the human heart and head. Then, we evaluated the performance of the microsystem in the human tissue simulation environment. The maximum specific absorption rate value satisfies the IEEE standard safety guidelines. The experiment results indicate that the impedance and AR bandwidths of proposed antenna are 2.25–2.78 GHz and 2.32–2.63 GHz, respectively. The total dimensions of π × 42 × 1.27 mm3 are obtained, which is equivalent to π × 0.032 λ 02 × 0.0102 λ 0 ( λ 0 is the free-space wavelength at 2.4 GHz). This compact size is very suitable for the application in health monitoring microsystem.
