In general, the mathematical representation skills of students in Indonesia are still relatively low, this is indicated by the number of students who still have difficulty in working on problems in the form of images, symbol, and verbal. One of the factors that affect the ability of mathematical representation shiva is the independence of learning. This research aims to find out the mathematical representation skills in solving set problems and learning independence. The type of research used in this research is qualitative research. The subjects in the study were class VIII students of the 2020/2021 school year who were at Kelurahan Sukagalih, which amounted to 3 people using purposive sampling techniques. The data collection techniques used are learning independence questionnaires, representation skills tests, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that students mathematical representation abilities in learning independence had medium and low categories seen from students mathematical representation abilities on image and symbol, so that students are able to solve problems. Some students are only able to solve problems to convey their mathematical ideas in their own language.
