The Effect of Traditional Congklak Game Method on Students' Learning Outcomes in Learning Mathematics in Elementary Schools

Every level of education includes mathematics as one of its disciplines. However, due to ineffective teaching, children find mathematics less interesting in elementary school. Therefore, teachers must be able to choose the best teaching strategy for their students. By utilizing the classic congklak game, researchers hope to deliver learning media that teachers can use using a literature review study approach from various sources and related media. The analysis findings show that, in addition to helping children learn to count and recognize numbers, the classic congklak game also helps children develop moral principles and good behavior, such as the ability to act honorably, wisely, and obediently. The traditional congklak game can increase students' interest in learning. The traditional Congklak game is also considered one of the most effective ways of improving students' mathematical abilities. So, this game can be used as a reference for teaching mathematics methods. Thus, the traditional congklak game changes mathematics into something exciting and fun to learn.

Impact of Digital Game-Based Learning on STEM education in primary schools: a meta-analysis of learning approaches

Enhancing learning outcomes in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects for primary school students remains a challenge. This meta-analysis, guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), explores Digital Game-Based Learning (DGBL) interventions as a potential solution. Eighteen empirical studies published from 2010 to 2020 were analyzed to identify effective DGBL approaches. Key factors examined include subject disciplines, control treatment, game type, platforms, and intervention duration. Findings reveal significant positive effects of DGBL interventions on learning outcomes, particularly in mathematics, language, and science. The study underscores the importance of optimizing gameplay design and platform choices for DGBL effectiveness and highlights the potential benefits of incorporating DGBL into primary STEM education. Future research should further investigate contributing factors like game genres, technologies, implementation strategies, and specific game components to promote optimal learning processes in diverse educational settings.

Enhancing mathematical learning outcomes through a low-cost single-channel BCI system

This study investigates the effectiveness of a Low-Cost Single-Channel BCI system in improving mathematical learning outcomes, self-efficacy, and alpha power in university students. Eighty participants were randomly assigned to either a BCI group receiving real-time neurofeedback based on alpha rhythms or a sham feedback group. Results showed that the BCI group had significantly higher mathematical performance, self-efficacy, and alpha power compared to the sham feedback group. Mathematics performance, alpha wave intensity, and self-efficacy showed significant positive correlations after training, indicating that neurofeedback training may have promoted their interaction and integration. These findings demonstrate the potential of BCI technology in enhancing mathematical learning outcomes and highlight the importance of considering pre-test performance and self-efficacy in predicting learning outcomes, with implications for personalized learning interventions and the integration of BCI technology in educational settings.

The Effect of Problem Based Learning Models and Analysis Skills on Mathematics Learning Outcomes in Primary Schools

This research aims to determine the effect of the problem based learning model and analytical skills on elementary school students' mathematics learning outcomes. This type of research is quantitative research using experimental methods with a research design using a 2x2 factorial design. The research was carried out at SDN 3 Lenek Daya. Data collection techniques use tests to determine learning outcomes and students' level of analysis. The results of the research show that 1) there is a difference in the mathematics learning outcomes of students who are taught using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) and the learning outcomes of students who use the Cooperative Think-Pair-Share (TPS) model, indicated by the difference in Fhitung values ​​greater than Ftable by (17,991 > 3.44). 2) there is an interaction effect between the PBL and analytical skills on students' mathematics learning outcomes, as evidenced by the Fhitung value being greater than Ftable (4.549 > 3.44) with a Sig value < α value (0.029 < 0.05). 3) there are differences in mathematics learning outcomes for students who have a high analysis of learning using PBL and TPS, this is because Fhitung is greater than Ftable (6.472 > 3.44), as well as the sig value < α value (0.030 < 0.05). 4) there are differences in mathematics learning outcomes for students who have low analytical skills who are taught using the PBL and TPS models, because the Fhitung value is greater than Ftable (19,950 > 3.44) while the sig value < α value (0.001 < 0.05)

Integration of Calculator.oi Application in Improving Mathematics Learning Outcomes of Students in Elementary Schools

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Calculator.oi application integration in improving students' mathematics learning outcomes in Elementary Schools. This study focused on fourth-grade students at SDN 22 Ketapang and used a quantitative approach with an experimental method. In this study, the experimental method was applied to compare the differences in students' learning outcomes before and after using the Calculator.oi application. Learning outcome data were collected and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test, after the normality test showed that the data were not normally distributed. The results showed a significant increase in students' mathematics learning outcomes after using the Calculator.oi application. Analysis of the differences between pre-test and post-test scores revealed that all students experienced significant progress in their understanding and achievement in mathematics. The significance value obtained from the statistical test was below 0.05, indicating that this application had a significant positive impact and was effective in improving students' learning outcomes. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the Calculator.oi application be integrated more widely into the mathematics learning process in Elementary Schools. The use of this application is considered an innovative and effective learning medium in supporting the understanding of mathematical concepts. Further research is recommended to involve a larger sample size and different class variations in order to obtain more comprehensive and representative results. In addition, exploration of students' perceptions regarding the use of this application as a learning tool is also important. This will provide a deeper understanding of how the Calculator.oi application can be accepted and utilized in a broader learning context.

Think Pair Share Learning Assisted By Wordwall On Mathematics Learning Outcomes

Mathematics is a mandatory subject that plays an important role, therefore the lack of adjustment to learning models and supporting media in the learning process can be one of the factors causing low learning outcomes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of think pair share supported by wordwall on the mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at Elementary School. The research was conducted at SDN Batu Ampar 02 Pagi in the second semester of the academic year 2023/2024. The research method used was quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design. The sampling system used non-random sampling of 30 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class. The instrument used was an essay test that had been validated and tested for reliability. In data analysis, tests for analysis requirements were conducted through tests of normality (Kolmogorov-Smirnov) and homogeneity, while hypothesis testing used independent sample t-test with SPSS version 29.0.0.0. Based on the analysis, it was found that the average learning outcomes of the experimental class using think pair share supported by wordwall were 79.75, which was significantly better than the average learning outcomes of the control class students using conventional learning, which scored 70.25. The t-test result obtained a sig value (2-tailed) of 0.003 (0.003 < 0.005), hence Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that in this study, there is an influence of the think pair share supported by wordwall learning model on the mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade elementary school students.

Teachers’ Perceptions towards Practical Instruction Approach in Teaching Mathematics: A case of Selected Teachers in Ugandan Secondary Schools

Globally, there is a need to address learners' academic achievement, which has historically been poor, particularly in underdeveloped countries. Practical instruction (PI) approach has been perceived by many teachers as a better teaching strategy. Students in Ugandan secondary schools have consistently performed poorly in their O'Level national mathematics examinations. This has been attributed to teachers' failure to teach these students with practical approach in some examinable topics, making the subject very abstract to candidates. This qualitative case study analyzed teachers' perceptions of the practical instruction approach to teaching mathematics and its impact on students' academic achievement in mathematics. Sixteen teachers from chosen secondary schools in Kigezi and Ankole regions were interviewed for the study in order to understand more about their opinions on the value and use of practical instruction in the teaching and learning of mathematics. The data gathered were analyzed using thematic analysis. The study showed that teachers regard PI as one of the best teaching methodologies since it incorporates components that help improve students' creativity and critical thinking. The study also indicated that teachers' perceptions of practical instruction approaches for teaching mathematics are diverse and influenced by a variety of circumstances. Creating supportive settings, offering professional development opportunities, and providing access to resources can assist teachers in effectively incorporating practical instruction methodologies into their teaching practice, resulting in improved student learning outcomes in mathematics. It is recommended that teachers should be well prepared before commencing the teaching and learning process, including all PI components.

Upaya Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar Matematika Materi Bangun Datar dengan Pendekatan Matmatika Realistik di Kelas V SDN 101766 Bandar Setia

The purpose of this research is to see the results of learning mathematics on flat shapes material after using a realistic mathematics approach in class V of SD Negeri 101766 Bandar Setia. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The CAR model used consists of 4 stages, namely planning, action, review (observation), and reflection. The subjects in this study were 22 students of class V-B of SD Negeri 101766 Bandar Setia, consisting of 10 male students and 12 female students. The data collection technique used in this study was observation and test analysis. The results of the study from the implementation of two cycles showed that the percentage of student learning activities increased by 60% in cycle I to 88.5% in cycle II. The percentage of student learning outcomes also increased from 59% (good) in cycle I to 86% (very good) in cycle II. Based on the results of the data analysis obtained, it can be concluded that the realistic mathematics approach can improve student learning outcomes in the mathematics subject of flat shapes material in class V of SD Negeri 101766 Bandar Setia

Fostering Inclusivity: A Critical Emancipatory Approach to Dyscalculia in Primary School Mathematics

This research endeavoured to revolutionise primary school mathematics education by implementing an active learning approach tailored to addressing dyscalculia. The study used a critical emancipatory framework as the theoretical foundation, and participatory action research as the chosen methodology. The researcher employed purposive sampling to select two mathematics teachers, one school-based teacher, a district education psychologist, two learners displaying dyscalculia symptoms, and two parents. The research collaboratively engaged participants to identify challenges, crafting interventions, and reflecting on outcomes through the lens of the critical emancipatory framework and participatory action research,. The researcher assessed the effectiveness of the active learning strategy to enhance students’ mathematical abilities, self-efficacy, and attitudes toward mathematics. Critical discourse analysis shed light on the potential of active learning strategies to improve mathematical learning outcomes and create a supportive learning atmosphere. The results indicated that the implemented active learning strategy offers effective pedagogical practices for learners with dyscalculia by influencing positive changes in their attitude towards mathematics and the learning environment. The participating teachers gained insights into understanding the behaviour of learners with dyscalculia and the role of active learning in intervention strategies. The study’s findings can guide educators, policymakers, and researcher in developing inclusive mathematics instruction for diverse learners in primary school classrooms.

Searching for differential effects of the dynamic approach to teacher professional development: a study on promoting formative assessment

ABSTRACT The Dynamic Approach (DA) to Teacher Professional Development (TPD) stresses the importance of identifying specific needs and improvement priorities for each teacher. A framework measuring teacher assessment skills was used and teachers were classified into three stages. The skills identified at each stage were used to make decisions in relation to the focus and content of the TPD course. A study in four European countries (i.e. Belgium, Cyprus, Greece and the Netherlands) was conducted. Teachers (N = 206) were randomly allocated into two groups (experimental and control group). A questionnaire measuring teachers’ skills in assessment and tests measuring students’ learning outcomes in mathematics (cognitive and metacognitive) were administered at the beginning and the end of the course. The DA was effective in improving the assessment skills of teachers at all stages. Differential effects of DA on promoting student learning outcomes in mathematics were identified. Implications of the findings are discussed.

Mental imagery in education: What impact on the relationships with visuospatial processing and school performance in junior high school students?

This study examined the relationship between mental imagery, visuospatial processing, and academic performance among junior high school students. The influence of these variables on learning outcomes in Italian, mathematics, art, and music was also investigated. Third-year students were tested using the Mental Imagery Test and Raven's Progressive Matrices. Gender differences were explored, revealing no significant differences in mental imagery and visuospatial processing. Higher mental imagery correlated with better academic performance, particularly in Italian and mathematics. Visuospatial processing mediated the relationship between mental imagery and academic performance in Italian and mathematics, suggesting its significant role in these subjects. However, this mediation was not significant for music and art, suggesting the involvement of alternative cognitive mechanisms. These findings highlight the importance of mental imagery and visuospatial processing in academic success, particularly in abstract subjects, and advocate for educational strategies targeting these cognitive domains to enhance not only student performance but also creativity and thinking skills.

Penggunaan Media Papan Pintar untuk Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar Siswa Kelas 3 pada Materi Bilangan Cacah di SDN 1 Babakan

This research was motivated by the low learning outcomes of Mathematics in addition and subtraction materials in grade 3B students at SDN 1 Babakan. This shows that the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) set by the school, which is 70, has not been achieved. The purpose of this study is to determine the improvement of Mathematics learning outcomes of addition and subtraction materials using smart board learning media. This study uses the Classroom Action Research (PTK) method based on the theory developed by Kemmis and McTaggart which includes the process of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research was carried out in class 3B of SDN 1 Babakan, Sumber District, Cirebon Regency with a total of 29 students (14 women and 15 boys). Data collection techniques are carried out through observation and tests. Data analysis was carried out descriptively on all research data. The results of the study show that student learning outcomes in learning have improved. In the first cycle, student learning outcomes reached 62% and in the second cycle, student learning outcomes reached 83%. The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that the use of Smart Board Media can improve student learning outcomes in Mathematics learning in grade III of SDN 1 Babakan

Pengaruh Model Kooperatif Tipe Make A Match Terhadap Hasil Belajar Siswa Kelas V SDN Sumbertanggul 2 Kabupaten Mojokerto

This research is quantitative research. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of implementing the make a match type cooperative learning model on students' learning outcomes in mathematics in multiplication material for class V SDN Sumbertanggul 2. The design of this research is one group pre-test post-test. The sample used in this research was class V students at SDN Sumbertanggul 2, totaling 25 students, 13 male students and 12 female students. The sampling technique used is saturated sampling. Data collection techniques in research include interviews, questionnaires, tests, documentation, teacher and student observations. The results of this research show that there is an influence from the application of the make a match type cooperative learning model on student learning outcomes in mathematics in multiplication material for class V at SDN Sumbertanggul 2, Mojokerto Regency. This is shown in the t count results obtained in the paired sample t - test, namely the t count has a negative value which indicates rejection of h0, with t count results of -27, 107 and t table 2.068, so t count < - t table which means h0 is rejected and h1 is accepted. The significance value obtained is 0.00 < 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is an average difference between the pre-test and post-test results.

The Effectiveness and Relationship of Student Responses toward Learning Outcomes Using Interactive Multimedia-Based E-Modules in Elementary Schools

An interactive multimedia-based e-module is an enhanced version of conventional modules incorporating information technology. It integrates navigation buttons and user instructions, enabling independent use by those at any location and time. This phenomenon facilitates the optimal implementation of learning in the digital literacy era. This study employed a quantitative design utilizing the pre-experimental design research method. It specifically utilized a one-shot case study research form to examine the effectiveness of learning. Additionally, it employed the correlation analysis method to investigate the relationship between student responses and learning outcomes. This effort is achieved by utilizing interactive multimedia-based e-modules focused on the topic of building space in elementary school. A total of 24 fifth-grade students were included as research subjects. Moreover, the employed instruments consisted of tests of learning outcomes and questionnaires. The research data were evaluated using descriptive statistics, the N-Gain, and the correlation test. The findings indicated that using interactive multimedia-based e-modules for teaching space-related content yielded significant positive effects on learning outcomes. The research data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, N-Gain, and correlation tests. The findings revealed that: 1) the utilization of interactive multimedia-based E-Modules for teaching space-related content is quite effective, resulting in significant improvements in learning outcomes falling within the medium category; and 2) there exists a strong and close relationship between student responses to the implementation of interactive multimedia-based E-Modules and their learning outcomes in mathematics learning at the elementary school level.

PENGARUH METODE PEMBELAJARAN GQGA TERHADAP HASIL BELAJAR MATEMATIKA MATERI PEMBAGIAN UNTUK SISWA KELAS II SDN NGADI

This study aims to determine the effect of the Giving Question and Getting Answer (GQGA) learning method on the Mathematics learning outcomes of class II students at SD Negeri Ngadi. The study was conducted through the experimental method of pretest-posttest Control Group design. The subjects of this study were 30 students, with class IIA as the experimental class totaling 15 students and class IIB as the control class also totaling 15 students. The data collection tool used was a learning outcome test on division material. The data analysis technique used statistical analysis pair sample T-test. The results of the study showed a significant value of 0.00 <0.05. So H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, it can be concluded that there is an effect of learning outcomes in the experimental group on the ability to achieve Mathematics learning outcomes on division material among class II students who use the GQGA learning method.

PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN ALAT PERAGA SMART STICK TERHADAP HASIL BELAJAR MATEMATIKA MATERI BANGUN RUANG PADA SISWA KELAS V SEKOLAH DASAR

Smart Stick teaching aids are teaching aids made of wooden sticks used to make spatial geometry frames. This study aims to determine the effect of using smart stick teaching aids on spatial geometry material on Mathematics learning outcomes of grade V at elementary school. This research method uses True Experimental with Post-test Only Control Design. The sampling of this study used a random sampling technique consisting of two classes, namely class VB and VC, totaling 45 students. Based on the results of the average value obtained by class VB of 84.35 and class VC of 70. Hypothesis testing of this research data uses an independent sample t-test, obtained with a value of tcount> ttable, obtained 3.62> 1.68 and sig. (2 tailed) = 0.001 <0.05. It can be interpreted that there is an effect of using smart stick teaching aids on spatial geometry material on Mathematics learning outcomes at grade V in SD Negeri 21 Palembang.

PERBANDINGAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN TGT DAN TGT MENGGUNAKAN PERMAINAN BINGO TERHADAP HASIL BELAJAR MATEMATIKA PESERTA DIDIK

The aim of this research is to compare the learning outcomes of students' mathematics learning models taught using the TGT learning model and the TGT learning model using the bingo game as media. This research conducted by quantitative experimental research. The subjects in this research were all class IV students at SD GMIT 01 Kalabahi, totaling 50 students, who were obtained using a saturated sampling technique. The students were divided into two population groups, namely the control and experimental class populations, each consisting of 25 students. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling. Data analysis used in this research is normality, homogeneity test and t test on two unpaired samples. The research results showed that the average value for the control class was 64.27, while for the experimental class it was 80.40. the results of hypothesis testing using the t test on two unpaired samples, obtained a value of t = 17.52 with t table = 1.64. Thus, it can be concluded that the TGT learning model using bingo game media is better than without using it.

PENGGUNAAN KERTAS ORIGAMI UNTUK MENINGKATKAN HASIL BELAJAR PADA MATERI BANGUN DATAR SISWA KELAS III SD

The study aims to determine the effectiveness of using origami paper in improving the learning achievement of grade III elementary school students. The research method used is classroom action research (CAR) which is carried out in two cycles. Data collection is carried out through observation sheets and comprehension tests. The results of the study found that although the average academic achievement of students in the "very good" category in cycle I with an average of 80.9, there were still 10 students who were not fully academically capable. After improvements were made in cycle II, the average score of students in the special category increased significantly to 93.1 with all students achieving completion. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the use of origami as a learning medium effectively improves the learning outcomes of Mathematics in flat geometry material for grade III students. Origami media can express abstract Mathematical concepts so that they are easier for students to understand. In addition, the use of origami supports increases student involvement and enthusiasm in learning.

PENERAPAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN DIRECT INSTRUCTION TERHADAP HASIL BELAJAR SATUAN WAKTU SISWA KELAS II SD

This study aims to describe the improvement of learning outcomes of grade II elementary school students in Mathematics through the direct instruction model on the material of time units. The study adopted Classroom Action Research (CAR) with four (4) stages, namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subjects of the study were 44 grade II students of Elementary School 1 Lembursawah, consisting of 24 female students and 20 male students. Data collection tools used repeat tests and observations. The data analysis technique used was the recapitulation of students' pretest and posttest scores from cycles I and II. The results of the study showed that the implementation of the direct instruction model can improve Mathematics learning outcomes of grade II students. It can be seen from the students' completeness in cycle I of 68% increasing to 84% in cycle II. It means that student learning outcomes increase gradually from cycle I to cycle II by 16%. Therefore, direct instruction model can improve students' understanding of the content of time units in the Mathematics subject of grade II elementary school.
