Maternal and fetal cardiovascular and acid-base changes resulting from spinal hypotension and methoxamine administration were observed in 7 pregnant ewes near term. Spinal hypotension resulted in fetal signs of placental hypoperfusion. Administration of methoxamine corrected hypotension while the fetal condition further deteriorated with increasing hypoxia, hypercarbia, and metabolic acidosis.
