Trifluoromethylsulfenylation of Masked Carbonyl Compounds

Incorporation of fluorine and fluorine containing groups such as trifluoromethyl and trifluoromethylthio moieties considerably enhances the biopharmacological properties of the parent precursors. Trifluoromethylsulfenylation of masked carbonyl functions, such as the enamines using N-(trifluoromethylthio)phthalimide is described in this communication.

Acetyl substituted benzenes. Useful cores for the synthesis of dendrimeric polyketones

Benzylation of acetyl substituted benzenes is an efficient route to dendrimeric polyketones. A benzyl bromide possessing a masked carbonyl group is the key reagent for the dendrimeric growth. π-Stacking in the crystals of the first generation from 1,4-diacetylbenzene is observed.

Abstract Fused ring systems, containing two or three five membered rings, were constructed by utilizing 1-(cyclopent-1-enylcarbonyl)vinylphosphonates which function as versatile annulating agents. Facile synthesis of αß-carbocyclic fused γ-lactones was provided by the reaction of α-phosphono- λα,ß-butenolide with carbon nucleophiles containing the carbonyl or the masked carbonyl group at a γ or δ-position.

Syntheses of Bicyclic Pyridine Derivatives from 3-Substituted 2-(Phenylethynyl)pyridines

2-(Phenylethynyl)pyridines substituted in the 3-position with a carbonyl or masked carbonyl group were converted to various bicyclic pyridine derivatives (quinoline, furo[3,4-b]pyridine, and pyrrolo[3,4-b]pyridine derivatives) by intramolecular cyclization under basic conditions.

Preparation of α-Halovinyl Sulfides by Eliminative Deoxygenation of α-Halosulfoxides

Abstract Vinyl sulfides are useful synthetic intermediates1 which have received increasing attention recently both as masked carbonyl moieties2 and in carbon-carbon bond forming reactions.3 With regard to the latter, vinyl sulfide derivatives which are substituted in the α-position with halogen, tin, selenium, etc., are particularly useful due to the ready formation of anions upon treatment with a variety of organometallic reagents.3 d − 1 We report here that synthetically useful halovinyl sulfides can be produced in high yield by the eliminative deoxygenation of the corresponding α-halosulfoxides induced by electrophilic silicon reagents.
