Age Differences in Marriage in Hawaii

Analysis of 16,532 marriages performed in Hawaii reveals significant variations in age differences between partners when classified by age level, ethnic stock, previous marital status, place of residence, and occupation of either bride or groom. Wide differences in age were particularly frequent for older persons, grooms of Filipino stock, farm laborers, remarriages, and interracial unions. No clear reasons are evident for many of the differentials.

De acuerdo con los registros oficiales, los matrimonios entre personas de distintas razas represenum el 37.0 por cienlo de todos los matrimonios habidos en Hawai en 1961 y 196'2,frente a un 24.1 por ciento en 1936–40 y a un 11.5 por ciento en 1912–16. Las tasas de malrimonio con personas de olras razas en 10 que respecta a los novios fluctuan entre un 14.9 por ciento entre los japoneses y un 84.9 por ciento entre los hawaianos; y respecto de las novias, entre un 20.2 por cienlo entre las caucasicas y un 84.0 por ciento entre las hawaianas. Las tasas son mas elevadas entre los grupos etnicos mas pequenos.
