Lactone Derivatives from the Marine-Derived Fungus Penicillium sp. PSU-F44

Two new fungal metabolites, penicipyrone (1), and penicilactone (2), were isolated from the marine-derived fungus Penicillium sp. PSU-F44 along with three known macrolides, (+)-brefeldin A (3), (+)-brefeldin C (4), and 7-oxobrefeldin A (5). Their antimicrobial activities against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus SK1 and Microsporum gypseum SH-MU-4 were examined.

8'-Hydroxyzearalanone and 2'-Hydroxyzearalanol: Resorcyclic Acid Lactone Derivatives from the Marine-Derived Fungus Penicillium sp.

Two new 14-membered resorcyclic acid lactone derivatives, 8'-hydroxyzearalanone (1) and 2'-hydroxyzearalanol (2), and four known zearalanone derivatives (3-6) were isolated from the marine-derived fungus Penicillium sp. The structures of compounds 1-6 were elucidated by spectroscopic methods.

Penisporolides A and B, Two New Spiral Lactones from the Marine-derived Fungus Penicillium sp.

In our continued screening on bioactive constituents from marine-derived fungi, two novel compounds containing a rare spiral-lactone skeleton were isolated from lyophilized culture broth of the marine-derived fungus Penicillium sp. The structures of penisporolides A and B were elucidated on the basis of extensive 1D and 2D NMR as well as HRESI-MS spectroscopic data analysis. The relative stereochemistries of the compounds were assessed by analysis of NOESY data together with the comparison with data from previous literatures.

Griseusin C, and novel quinone derivative from a marine-derived fungusPenicillium sp

A novel quinone derivative, Griseusin C (1), along with a known quinone, Naphthoquinone C (2), was isolated from the lyophilized culture broth of the marine-derived fungus Penicillium sp. The structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive 1 D- and 2D-NMR, as well as HRESI-MS, spectroscopic analysis. The relative stereochemistries of the compounds were assessed by NOESY analysis.

New polyoxygenated farnesylcyclohexenones, deacetoxyyanuthone A and its hydro derivative from the marine-derived fungus Penicillium sp.

New polyoxygenated farnesylcyclohexenones, 7-deacetoxyyanuthone A (1) and its 2,3-hydro derivative (2), were isolated together with the known farnesylquinones (3, 4) from a marine isolate of the genus Penicillium. The structures of the new deacetoxyyanuthone A (1) and its 2,3-hydro derivative (2) were assigned by spectroscopic methods, including 2D NMR and CD for the Cotton effect of alpha-epoxyketone experiments. Compounds 1 and 3 showed moderate in vitro cytotoxicity in a panel of five human tumor cell lines, and 1 also exhibited mild in vitro antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant and multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MIC, 50 microg/mL).

A radical scavenging farnesylhydroquinone from a marine-derived fungus Penicillium sp.

Farnesylhydroquinone (1) has been isolated from the mycelium of a marine-derived fungus of the genus Penicillium. The structure of the compound (1) has been elucidated by spectral method. The compound 1 exhibits potent radical scavenging activity (IC50 12.5 microM) against the DPPH.
