The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies by using the technology organizational environment framework: The mediating role to manufacturing performance in a developing country

AbstractThe study aspires to identify the factors conditioning the adaptation of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) within the manufacturing industries in Bangladesh, embracing Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technology led by the technology‐organizational‐environment (TOE) framework that links a number of conditioning variables in the manufacturing industries of Bangladesh. I4.0 is going to drastically change the landscape of the extended TOE framework to relate demographics with research variables for implementing I4.0 technology in a developing country. The findings of the study are analyzed using SMART PLS SEM 4.0 and SPSS 29 in order to diagnose technological contexts (IT resource availability, technology readiness, and relative advantage), organizational contexts (strategy and leadership, organizational capabilities, and technology infrastructure), and environmental contexts (market pressure, government support, and technology innovation decision making). The study's data, which were collected with a bootstrap confidence range of 95%, offered evidence in favor of both proposed mediating effects. A statistically significant indirect effect of adaptation of I4.0 technology on manufacturing/industry performance was seen in the analysis. This study is conducted to examine the mediating function of manufacturing performance, which enhances the comprehensiveness of the study. Through the application of the TOE framework, this study investigates the impact of I4.0 technology adoption on manufacturing performance. The theoretical framework of the study has been validated by the TOE model, which aims to heighten manufacturing performance by integrating I4.0. The practical implications of this study, organizations, governments, and practitioners engaged in the implementation of I4.0 technologies within developing nation contexts.

Improving Quality, Productivity, and Cost Aspects of a Sewing Line of Apparel Industry Using TQM Approach

Total quality management (TQM) is a methodical strategy to minimize defects through six processes including choosing the manufacturer, gathering information, identifying the issues, analyzing the current situation, and coming up with solutions, putting the plan into action, data collection, and result analysis. The study investigates how quality, productivity, and cost aspects of a sewing line can be improved by implementing (TQM) approach in an apparel manufacturing industry in Bangladesh. This research concentrates on reducing four primary types of faults in the sewing department of DMC Apparels Ltd., such as uncut thread, up-down, broken stitch, and joint stitch. Proper information on several stitching errors was provided by the operators and helpers and those are used to assess the study in the next step. Performing the Pareto analysis and histograms to identify the primary concerns are part of the analyzing process. Moreover, using the 10 TQM pillars, the implementation step entails establishing the TQM mindset in the sewing line of the apparel industry. Several data-gathering methods are utilized to analyze primary data throughout the study’s final phase. To analyze the acquired data, Microsoft Excel was employed. The percentage of defect per hundred unit was decreased by 1.51% after optimization, as the recommended solutions’ impact on the defect level in the section was found to be quite significant. Significant parameters such as efficiency, quality, and cost aspect were analyzed and showed positive changes after implementing the TQM approach. The new technical layout also allows for the saving of five employees and a 3,000-min labor expense reduction. Finally, the research was completed by analyzing the basic pitch time graph and calculating the overall equipment effectiveness.

Supply Chain Collaboration during Disruption through Sales & Operations Planning: A Study in a Manufacturing Industry

The study is based on primary and secondary data which unlocks a sequential supply chain disruption that occurred due to the pandemic and subsequent occurrences, including geopolitical tensions involving Ukraine and Russia, as well as Palestine and Israel. The geopolitical landscape is contingent upon the comprehensive strategic choices made by global leaders representing the United States, Russia, Turkey, India, the European Union, and Middle Eastern countries. There are several attempts made by researchers and industry practitioners to appropriately synchronize the demand and supply during this disruption. Substantial research has been conducted and literature is available in the field of supply chain collaboration. However, collaboration can’t be ensured unless the end-to-end SCM is synchronized through the Sales & Operations (S&OP) planning. Achieving smooth collaboration poses a formidable challenge, particularly amid disruptions and volatile conditions as seen today. This research undertakes a comprehensive examination by conducting a systematic literature review on various facets of sales and operations planning (S&OP), coupled with a survey utilizing a self-administered questionnaire across 24 manufacturing industries in Bangladesh. The primary aim of this paper is to assess S&OP best practices by evaluating different aspects applied in the industry, to ensure seamless connectivity, collaboration, and establishing criteria for measuring performance in the S&OP process. The authors underscore the significance of integrating S&OP and ultimately propose an innovative approach that integrates 10 attributes of supply chain performance measurement (SCPM) to fortify the S&OP process, enhancing its overall performance and effectiveness. This study not only paves the way for researchers and academia to investigate deeper into collaboration and risk management within supply chain management (SCM) operations during disruptions but also recommends industry practitioners novel concepts to enhance overall efficiency and provide substantial visibility into business operations.

Determinants of Industrial Automation Adoption in Bangladesh’s Manufacturing: An Empirical Study

This study analyzes the potential factors that determine the adoption of industrial automation in the manufacturing industry in Bangladesh using modern time series econometric methodologies from 1991 to 2022. The empirical results indicate that the production volume is a potential determinant of automation adoption in the manufacturing sector. However, increasing per capita income levels may limit the adoption of automation. On the other hand, rapid industrial automation is expected to increase import volume while necessitating significant investment. This study suggests that although automation will improve export performance, further improving manufacturing export performance through product diversity is a prerequisite for an import-dependent economy, as frequent adoption of automation will result in increased import volume, and higher exports will help to stabilize the country’s trade imbalance. For responsible implementation of automation technology in Bangladesh, it is necessary to prioritize strategic planning, invest in education and training, and implement supportive policies. Collaboration between the government, businesses, and educational institutions is crucial to creating a favorable environment for adopting automation technologies. By doing so, Bangladesh can balance the challenges and opportunities for industrial automation utilization in manufacturing industries.

Ownership Structure and Financial Distress: Investigating the Moderating Effect of Audit Quality

The study examines the effect of ownership structure and the moderating role of audit quality on the likelihood of firms’ financial distress. 144 DSE-listed manufacturing companies were chosen to design the sampling frame for performing the research. Ten manufacturing industry categories were selected, and data from 1310 firm-year observations were collected during the research period 2012-2021 from several sources, including annual reports of the companies, the World Bank Database etc. Using the Two-stage-least-square (2SLS) model estimation technique, the study disclosed that managerial ownership, foreign ownership, ownership concentration, and government ownership have a significant negative influence on the likelihood of firms’ financial distress, whereas institutional ownership and public ownership are positively correlated with the financial distress. It is also evidenced that firms’ shareholders’ influence and GDP growth rate have a noteworthy negative influence on distress possibilities. In contrast, firm size is positively correlated with the financial distress of the firms. No significant effect of firm age and inflation rate on financial distress was identified. The study period covered only 12 years, from 2012-2021, and focused on the manufacturing industries of Bangladesh. The study offers robust evidence on the role of ownership structure on the stability of manufacturing companies using a multidimensional approach of ownership structure and moderating effect of audit quality, which has financial, legal, and social implications in the context of emerging economies like Bangladesh.

Assessment of Critical Barriers to Industry 4.0 Adoption in Manufacturing Industries of Bangladesh

Purpose: Regardless of the potential benefits of Industry 4.0, firms are still experiencing difficulties in properly integrating new technologies into their business. This study focuses on addressing critical barriers to implementing Industry 4.0 in the manufacturing industries of Bangladesh with a view to exploring readiness. The paradigm of adopting new technologies is yet to be unlocked in Bangladesh, which serves as this study's motivating force. Approach: In order to accomplish the research objectives, "Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM)" analysis is used, which identified and outlined the most significant barriers to adopting Industry 4.0. This was also combined with MICMAC analysis, which categorized the barriers based on their driving and dependent power. To evaluate the industries' preparedness, "cross-tabulation and frequency analysis" is performed using SPSS. Key findings: According to the findings, “Lack of technical knowledge about industry 4.0” has been identified as the most crucial barrier. Limitations of the study: To address the firm’s preparedness, we looked at responses from management personnel. Nevertheless, if we could do this on a larger scale, a better scenario of Bangladesh's manufacturing industries toward Industry 4.0 might be shown. Practical implication: The study's findings will be conceptually linked to relevant aspects of I4.0, particularly for strategic planning, decision-making, future opportunities, and formulating policy-related guidelines. Originality: While several studies concentrate on particular sectors adopting Industry 4.0, no study has been conducted on manufacturing industries focusing on the industry's preparedness, which makes this study distinctive.

Adoption of green supply chain management in developing countries: role of consumer cooperation, eco-design, and green marketing.

This study investigates the influence of consumer cooperation, eco-design, and green marketing on the adoption of green supply chain management in developing countries. The mediating role of innovation in this relationship is also examined. A survey method was employed, using a questionnaire adapted from previous studies. The sample comprised 250 respondents who were employees of small and medium size and multinational manufacturing industries in Bangladesh. Smart partial least squares (PLS) are currently being used for data analysis, while PLS-structural equation modeling is being employed to assess measurement and structural models. The findings reveal that consumer cooperation, eco-design, and green marketing significantly affect innovation. Furthermore, innovation acts as a mediator between these variables and the adoption of green supply chain management. This study identifies green supply chain management practices that have the potential to enhance organizational performance and motivate companies to implement strategic and operational changes, leading to significant economic, social, and environmental impacts. The research holds significant importance for emerging economies and green supply chain adoption considering the constraints at both organizational and government levels. It provides a framework for a synergistic combination of asset-based elements, innovation, and green supply chain management, benefiting small and medium size organization, multinational corporations, and the supply chain sector in achieving sustainable development goals. The implications of this study extend to supervisors and managers in the corporate world, assisting them in making informed decisions. By expanding the existing literature on the consumer cooperation, eco-design, and green marketing model to include green supply chain management, this study contributes to the field. However, it should be noted that the findings and recommendations may be influenced by contextual factors, and therefore, future research should explore other countries to identify regional and specific sectors, enabling a broader perspective and comparisons as well as green related aspects and performances.

Implementation of Total Productive Maintenance in a Jute Bag Industry:a Case Study

In this competitive world, manufacturing industries are suffering from several problems such as breakdown of machine, production adjustments, poor working of defective equipment, poor maintenance and management, unhealthy working area and this lead to low productivity, increasing wastage, fire damage and major losses in the company’s growth. Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) approaches can be promising solution to overcome these problems. Therefore, this study attempts to evaluate the contributions TPM initiatives towards improving manufacturing performance in a Jute bag manufacturing industry in Bangladesh. Specific objectives of this study are identification and reduction of major losses by using TPM tools and evaluation of the effectiveness by analyzing Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE). The correlations between various TPM implementation dimensions and manufacturing performance improvements have been evaluated and validated by employing overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) in the jute bag plant. In this study TPM tools such as 5S, Autonomous Maintenance, Kobetsu Kaizen, Planned Maintenance and Education and Training have been implemented in the selected company. The equipment failure losses are reduced 3.85% through continuous improvement concept. The defect rate is reduced by 1.84% by taking preventive action. An assessment of efficiency and productivity analysis of manufacturing industries in Bangladesh

This empirical study employs stochastic frontier analysis to evaluate the Total Factor Productivity (TFP) growth and technical efficiencies of the manufacturing sector in Bangladesh. The study draws data from five rounds of surveys conducted between 1982/83 and 2012. TFP growth is decomposed into efficiency growth, scale component, and technological progress to identify the sources of growth. The technical efficiency of the manufacturing industries in Bangladesh averages 80%, with export-oriented industries exhibiting higher efficiency than non-export industries. Small-scale industries show higher TFP growth than medium- and large-scale industries. The study estimates the TFP growth in Bangladesh's manufacturing sector at approximately 5.5% during the review period, with technological progress being a key driver of growth. The results also indicate TFP growth convergence over time among the manufacturing industries in Bangladesh. The study highlights the potential for productivity improvement and income growth in Bangladesh's manufacturing sector. Further investigation into TFP and efficiency is necessary to achieve this potential fully. The study's findings suggest that policymakers in Bangladesh should focus on promoting technological progress and improving the efficiency of manufacturing industries, especially in medium- and large-scale industries. Moreover, the government should develop policies that support export-oriented industries to improve their efficiency.

Cash conversion cycle and financial performance: evidence from manufacturing firms of Bangladesh

PurposeThe purpose of the present study is to determine how the cash conversion cycle (CCC) affects the financial performance of manufacturing companies in Bangladesh.Design/methodology/approachThe authors have collected data of 61 Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE)-listed firms from the 10 distinct manufacturing industries of Bangladesh for 18 years, from 2003 to 2020. The data have been analyzed through the two-steps system generalized method of moment (GMM) regression model, using profitability indicators return on asset (ROA) and earnings per share (EPS) as dependent variables, while CCC has been used as the independent variable, whereas asset turnover (ATO) and financial leverage (LEV) were used as control variables to assess the relationship between the CCC and financial performance.FindingsThe findings indicated that CCC has a negative connection with profitability – ROA and EPS, with the connection between CCC and EPS being highly significant. This indicates that reducing the inventory conversion time, reducing the period of receivable collection and making payments to creditors with potential delays might help Bangladeshi manufacturing firms boost their profitability. In addition, the firm-specific characteristics, namely ATO and LEV significantly affect the firm's profitability.Research limitations/implicationsThe research was based only on secondary sources and information was scarce. This research was conducted to determine the impact of the CCC on the corporate profitability of the manufacturing sector solely. There might be many other working capital variables that are still unexplored through this study.Practical implicationsThe current study's findings are consistent with the traditional rule that minimizing the firm's days of the cash cycle may optimize financial performance. The results of this research have added to the existing body of knowledge on the topic of working capital management (WCM). Future research endeavors can be initiated for assessing the impact of the CCC on the firm's profitability in other industrial sectors or to identify other working capital variables that have much impact on corporate profitability.Originality/valueThis study is an original work of the researchers and adds value to the current literature in the domain of WCM and corporate profitability. The present study is the first one that covers firms in all the manufacturing industries in Bangladesh. The corporate managers, creditors, investors and other concerned stakeholders will be benefited from the findings of the present study.

Measurement of CSR Performance in Manufacturing Industries

The study aims to measure what factors influence corporate social responsibility (CSR) in manufacturing industries and how organizational strategic planning (OSP) instigates the factors to achieve better CSR performance. Structural equation modeling (SEM), along with exploratory factor analysis (EFA) has been used to analyze the data collected from the different levels of employees from the manufacturing industries of Bangladesh. The study finds that the OSP has a significant impact on social accountability and social investment (SASI), ethics and human resources (EHR), environmental protection and sustainability (EPS), and green practices and performance (GPP). The findings of the study suggest that the policymakers and stakeholders of the manufacturing industries should be more conscious of formulating sound strategic planning to ensure better CSR performance.

Optimization in apparel supply chain using Artificial Neural Network

Labour costs in the apparel manufacturing industry in Bangladesh have increased dramatically. Hence, there is no alternative way to optimize the apparel supply chain to survive in the competitive market. In this study, we implemented artificial neural networks (ANN) in apparel manufacturing organizations to optimize the supply chain by convergent on the right supplier selection by analyzing their performance criteria. Moreover, data was collected from three different factories to analyze the efficiency and profit-loss status of their units. Furthermore, analyze the supplier selection criteria of three suppliers in order to select the right supplier at the right time in the apparel manufacturing industry. This study shows that it can save 18% of the total cost. Additionally, the mathematical analysis has been performed to validate the data analysis for the right supplier selection based on the performance criteria.

Supply Chain Management Practices and Supply Chain Performance in the Manufacturing Industries of Bangladesh

Purpose: The paper aims to examine the association between supply chain management practices (SCMP) and supply chain performance (SCP) in the manufacturing industries of Bangladesh. SCMP was classified as strategic supplier partnership (SSP), customer relationship (CR), information sharing level (IS), information quality level (IQ), and postponement (POS). 
 Methods: It is a quantitative research based on a survey questionnaire. Supply chain management practices were measured by items adapted from Li, Nathan, and Rao (2006), while supply chain performance was measured by using key supply chain performance indicators suggested by Ambe (2013). Using convenience sampling technique, data were collected from 203 executives involved in supply chain activities working in different manufacturing organizations in two major cities of Bangladesh (Dhaka and Chittagong). Descriptive statistics, bivariate correlation, and regression analysis were used to analyze the data. 
 Results: Results demonstrated a positive correlation between supply chain management practices and supply chain performance (r=0.67**). However, strategic supplier partnership, customer relationship, and postponement are more strongly related to improving supply chain performance than information sharing level and information quality level. 
 Implications: A significant implication of the study is that manufacturing organizations should develop supply chain management capabilities to improve supply chain performance and they should begin with developing their level of information sharing and level of information quality.
 Limitations: The use of the convenience sampling technique limits the generalizability of the findings. The small sample size (n=203) also warrant caution in interpreting the results.

Theoretical debate on minimum wage policy: a review landscape of garment manufacturing industry in Bangladesh

The purpose of this research is to adapt to the monopsony theory and disregard the neoclassical economic theory with regard to minimum wage policy. The other purposes of this study are to analyze the present minimum wage policy in Bangladesh. Is minimum wage system really effective? If so, what should be the standard for effective application of minimum wage legislation? The methodology of this study is qualitative. I have created a theoretical debate and developed hypotheses in this scholarship. The hypothesis developed from the debate of neoclassical theory clarified that the minimum wage law might not have an adverse effect. Instead, a standard minimum wage law, along with an appropriate implementation process, may have a positive effect on society. This study finds inadequate mechanisms to implement minimum wage provisions under the Bangladesh labor legislation. Therefore, the present minimum wage policy has not been implemented to its fullest as required to protect workers’ right in Bangladesh. This paper also shows that a minimum wage policy will have an effect if strict adherence to the standard of ILO Conventions is complied with. This study also creates a balancing test between neoclassical theory and monopsony theory on the application of the minimum wage system. Finally, this manuscript has taken a stanch with monopsony theory favoring the application of minimum wage law in the garment manufacturing industry. It is an original research paper. The strength of this type of research is that it benefits the practitioner and the pertinent stakeholder to gain new insight.

Factors Influencing Green Performance in Manufacturing Industries

The study aims to examine the factors that influence green performance in the manufacturing industry as it has become a burning topic in recent times.Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) has been used as a tool to analyze the data collected from different management levels of employees from the manufacturing industries in Bangladesh. The study shows that environmental performance (ENP) is the most significant factor affecting green performance (GP) in the manufacturing industry. Moreover, economic performance (ECP), operational performance (OP), social performance (SP) and corporate governance performance (CGP) are also significant influential factors of green performance. However, the study found no significant relation between innovation performance (IP) and GP. The findings of this study provide policymakers as well as the industries’ authority valuable insight and help take necessary actions regarding green performance.

Empirical Investigation of Barriers and Driving Forces for Efficient Energy Management Practices in Non-Energy-Intensive Manufacturing Industries of Bangladesh

Improved energy efficiency is being considered as one of the significant challenges to mitigating climate change all over the world. While developed countries have already adopted energy management and auditing practices to improve energy efficiency, the developing countries lag far behind. There are a limited number of studies which have been conducted in the context of developing countries, which mostly revolve around highly energy-intensive sectors. This study looks into the existence and importance of the challenges to and motivating forces for the adoption of energy management practices in Bangladesh, a developing country, focusing on the non-energy-intensive manufacturing industries. Conducted as a multiple case study, the results indicate the existence of several barriers towards adopting and implementing the management of energy practices in the non-energy-intensive industries of Bangladesh, where among them, “other preferences for capital venture” and “inadequate capital expenditure” are the most dominant. This study also identified a number of driving forces that can accelerate the acceptance of energy efficiency practices, such as the demands from the owner, loans, subsidies, and a lowered cost–benefit ratio. Findings of this study could assist the concerned stakeholders to develop beneficial policies and a proper regulatory framework for the non-energy-intensive industries of developing countries like Bangladesh.

E-HRM Practices and its impact on Organizational Performance: A study on the Manufacturing industry in Bangladesh

Electronic Human Resource Management (E-HRM) is a relatively new term for developing countries like Bangladesh. Its practice is relatively low for the manufacturing industry since most of the manufacturing industry is labor-intensive, so E-HRM is ignored. With the new era of the twenty-first century where most of the work will get automated, the scale of production will increase and human resource management will become dramatically complex, so E-HRM is the solution. In this research, we find the current level of E-HRM practices on the manufacturing industry in Bangladesh and its impact on organizational performance. There are three levels of E-HRM named “Informational, Interactional and Transformational”. For measuring organizational performance, we look at Six dimensions namely ‘’ Effectiveness, Efficiency, Quality, Timeliness, Finance’’. For measuring E-HRM practices we chose nine components which are “Recruitment System, Employee System, Information Management System, Salary Management System, Learning and Training System, Idea and Creativity Exchange System, Assessment System, Welfare System, and Career Development System”. We took NO E-HRM practicing organization as base performance and compare it with E-HRM performing organization to see whether organizational performance increase or not. We found that Informational E-HRM practicing organization performance increases 73%, Interactional E-HRM practicing organization performance increases 197% and finally, Transformational E-HRM practicing organization performance increases 242% than No E-HRM practicing organization. We also compare nine E-HRM practices with organizational performance to see whether there is a significant relationship exist or not. We found that ‘’Learning and Training System, Salary Management System, Assessment System, Welfare System, Recruitment System, and Career Development System have a positive relationship with organizational performance. On the other hand, Idea and Creativity Exchange System, Information Management System, Employee System have a negative relationship with organizational performance. The more humanistic approach is required in case of idea and creative exchange system and Employee management system since there is a transition period going on in HRM. Information Management is negative due to the size of the organization. Most of the organization in Bangladesh is not large enough to reap the benefits of the information management system. So, in case of a smaller organization, it acts as a burden. Overall There is a significant relationship between E-HRM practices and Organizational performance. E-HRM benefits to cost must be compared when Implementing E-HRM. Organizations need must consider before implementing E-HRM. Most importantly remember E-HRM is just the advancement of HRM functionality based on sophisticated information, communication, and technology. So, a study must be conducted before implementing E-HRM to see whether the expense worth it or not. Effects of Dyes on Pulmonary Functions in Male Spray Dye Workers in Dhaka, Bangladesh

There are many steel product manufacturing industries in Bangladesh where chemical dyes are used for coating the steel made product. The spray dye workers are continuously exposed to chemical dyes. Prolong exposure of these dyes can cause pulmonary disorders of the workers. This cross-sectional study was done to evaluate pulmonary functions of male dye workers. This study was carried out in the Department of Community Medicine in Dhaka National Medical College from September 2013 to September 2014. Out of 60 subjects, 30 apparently healthy male spray dye workers were taken from different steel manufacturing factories as study group and 30 apparently healthy male subjects who are not exposed to spray dye were taken as control. Sample was taken by convenient type of non-probability sampling. Auto spirometer (AS-507) was used to measure the lung functions of both groups. Forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) and FEV1/FVC% of all subjects were recored by using a digital spirometer. Unpaired t-test were performed for analysis of data. The mean percentage of predicted value of FEV1, FVC and FEV1/FVC% were significantly lower (p < .001) in spray dye workers than control group. From the result of this study it can be concluded that spray dye may have harmful effects on some pulmonary functions.

Facility location selection for plastic manufacturing industry in Bangladesh by using AHP method

In present’s, the location selection problems play an important role for the top-level manager or entrepreneur for opening a new manufacturing company or relocate or expand their operation. As an engineered material, the plastic is used for manufacturing a wide variety of domestic products. For this reason, the plastic manufacturing industries are growing in Bangladesh through the last two eras. This paper might be helpful to select a new location or expansion of the existing one in Bangladesh for the plastic manufacturing company. In this study, we have taken five commercial districts as location and ten criteria for deep consideration from all promising sites of Bangladesh.For this purpose, data has collected through surveying and questionnaires. Then, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) has used to make a preference measure to select the best location for plastic manufacturing industries. From the comparison value of the composite weight, it can be found that Mongla is the best alternative location for the decision problems.

Investigation of Waste Water Quality Parameters Discharged from Textile Manufacturing Industries of Bangladesh

Textile manufacturing sector is the strongest root of the economy of Bangladesh while pollution by inappropriate management of waste water from textile dyeing industries is one of the major environmental problems. Textile processing employs an assortment of chemicals, contingent upon the idea of the crude materials and items. Environmental problems caused by the the textile industry are mainly the discharges of waste water. The wellspring of waste water contamination are the wet handling steps which incorporate measuring, desizing, scouring, bleaching, mercerizing, coloring, printing etc. The present study was aimed at physico-chemical evaluation of waste water discharged by some garments industries. While in some waste water high pH values have been recorded, the pH values of the waste water before and after treatments were found in between the standard range. The Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Dissolved Solid (TDS) and Total Suspended Solid (TSS) values for waste water before treatment were found to be much higher than the permissible limits. For some industries the BOD, COD, TDS and TSS values of the outlet water from effluent treatment plant (ETP) were also found beyond the standard limits.
