Quantitative changes in certain important cell constituents of the fungus Colletotrichum capsici after exposure to lethal amounts of manganese ethylene bisdithiocarbamate (maneb) are reported for the first time. Changes in certain bound and free amino acids, organic acids, purines, pyrimidines, phosphorus, and nitrogen were noted. In particular, marked increases in succinic acid and free aspartic and glutamic acids and a loss of orthophosphate and nitrogen to the external medium indicate a blocking of the succinic acid dehydrogenase enzyme system and an alteration in cell membrane permeability.
