Leadership Rooted in Community-Based Local Wisdom Values

Leadership in tourism villages that implement community-based tourism governance presents distinct challenges compared to company leadership. Tourism village leaders often encounter complex socio-cultural issues and conflicts, so leadership strategies and approaches are required to align with the local community's character and values. The research focuses on applying leadership that prioritizes local wisdom in community-based tourism management in tourism villages. The research method employed is qualitative, utilizing a grounded theory approach. The approach is used to dig the data from nine informants or participants. The participants in this research include heads of tourism villages who have successfully managed their villages for more than five years. The research results indicate that: (1) leadership based on local community wisdom values is a key element in ensuring the successful management and development of tourism villages. Effective leaders can mobilize and motivate the community, shift the mindsets, accommodate the volunteers, and optimize the community's social role. This leadership fosters a sustainable tourism village, positively impacting the economy and community welfare. (2) An inclusive, participative and deliberation-oriented approach becomes the leadership characteristic which prioritizes local wisdom values. This approach unites the community's vision and mission, listens to and accommodates aspirations, makes decisions democratically, and organizes active community participation effectively. (3) The success of leadership based on local wisdom values is measured not only by financial achievements but also by the ability to enhance community happiness, preserve the environment, ensure active community participation, and achieve predetermined goals. (4)The leadership model which prioritizes local wisdom values reflects a holistic and sustainable approach in tourism management. Local values and community participation are considered as the key success factors. This leadership illustrates the commitment to maintaining the local identity while creating sustainable benefits for the community and the surrounding environment.

The Meaning of the Principle of Local Wisdom in Management and Protection Law Environment Indonesia

Purpose: The principle of local wisdom is one of the legal principles contained in the Law on Environmental Management andProtection (UUPPLH). This principle implies that environmental management is not only based on modern values or modern Western philosophyrelatedto human rights and globalization,but also places the wisdomoflocal communities or indigenous peoples, as part of it. The management and protection of the environment that has been oriented towards the principles of modern development principles has created acute problems for environmental management and conservation, namely the problems of exploration and exploitation, conservation or logging, which have resulted in environmental damage. Retracing the meaning of the principle of local wisdom, helps to explain how local wisdom becomes the lifeblood of environmental management and conservation. Through a multi-disciplinary approach or using a mixed legal approach (mixed method), namely the use of more than one approach, namely the philosophical approach, conceptual approach and statutory approach, this model is more triangulation approach. The results obtained, that the principle of Local Wisdom is not a mere formal meaning, or only textual recognition, but explains further about the way of life, mindset, values, and culture, idiology that manifests in the behavior - ethical Indonesian society, about its relationship with the environment guided by spiritual rules, or something that forms and leads to "cosmic consciousness". Through this cosmic consciousness, cultural pluralism becomes an invaluable wealth in protecting and maintaining the environment. In the midst of the onslaught of globalization and digitalization, the cosmic consciousness of indigenous peoples is the main foundation of local wisdom, which actually rests on what is referred to as "pre established harmony". Method: First is the philosophical method, which examines and analyzes the position ofprinciples in the EnvironmentalManagementand Protection Law,this methodis used to obtain the essence or meaning (essential) and function of principles for the Development of Environmental Law; (2) Conceptual method, this method helps explain theconcepts usedas the basis for research/writing by presenting currentissues related to the principles in UUPPLH, and (3) Regulatory method, this method is used to explain normatively the essence of UUPPLH, especially the substance of several provisions reviewed in this paper/research. Data analysis uses analytical triangulation, namely various analyses used to explain one particular phenomenon, namely the principle of local wisdom will be studied and dissected through philosophical analysis. Results: The principle of local wisdom in the Law on Environmental Management and Protection has several meanings that philosophically touch the inner aspects of Indonesian society, that (1) The principle of local wisdom in UUPPLH, is not just formally interpreted, but is an essential meaning that describes the reality of Indonesian people's thinking about their relationship with their lives and the environment, namely thinking that is cosmic, integral and intact. (2) The meaning of the principle of local wisdom is the driving force and struggle of the people who have struggled to get recognition from the state, that the rights of indigenous peoples are important things to continue to be protected and maintained (3) The principle of local wisdom in UUPPLH, illustrates the diversity of the values of indigenous peoples spread in many regions, is a wealth owned by the community with a diversity of cultures, values and religions that underlie their lives with the surrounding environment, which forms a plural consciousness. Pengolahan dan Pemanfaatan Sampah Rumah Tangga di Lingkungan Desa Tanjung Baru Kecamatan Indralaya Utara Kabupaten Ogan Ilir

The waste problem in Tanjung Baru Village is not a disaster if waste management is managed properly. Good waste management must of course have good environmental management wisdom as well. Environmental wisdom can be seen from how humans treat; objects, plants, animals, and anything around them. This is what is then called ecological intelligence, namely how a person's understanding and knowledge are in understanding their environmental ecosystem, so that they can care about the environment they live in. Therefore, the village asked the PKM team of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Sriwijaya University to provide some kind of guidance to the people of Tanjung Baru Village in utilizing household waste. The low level of public understanding regarding the utilization of household waste causes household waste to be simply thrown away. Household waste processing that has not received the touch of processing technology. This can be seen from the absence of households that process household waste into useful processed products. Efforts to transfer information on household waste processing and utilization technology through this PkM activity have resulted in increasing the motivation and attraction of the community to carry out an environmental care movement by processing and utilizing the household waste produced. The people of Tanjung Baru Village have started to select organic and non-organic waste. Organic waste such as vegetables and leaves are processed into organic fertilizer, while leftover food is given to pets such as chickens and ducks. For non-organic waste, it is collected and sold to collectors of used goods and some are reused for home decorations, for example plastic bottles used as a medium for planting vegetables.

Power-Domain Interference Graph Estimation for Multi-hop BLE Networks

Traditional wisdom for network management allocates network resources separately for the measurement and communication tasks. Heavy measurement tasks may compete limited resources with communication tasks and significantly degrade overall network performance. It is therefore challenging for the interference graph, deemed as incurring heavy measurement overhead, to be used in practice in wireless networks. To address this challenge in wireless sensor networks, our core insight is to use power as a new dimension for interference graph estimation (IGE) such that IGE can be done simultaneously with the communication tasks using the same frequency-time resources. We propose to marry power-domain IGE with concurrent flooding to achieve simultaneous measurement and communication in BLE networks, where the power linearity prerequisite for power-domain IGE holds naturally true in concurrent flooding. With extensive experiments, we conclude the necessary conditions for the power linearity to hold and analyze several non-linearity issues of power related to hardware imperfections. We design and implement network protocols and power control algorithms for IGE in multi-hop BLE networks and conduct experiments to show that the marriage is mutually beneficial for both IGE and concurrent flooding. Furthermore, we demonstrate the potential of IGE in improving channel map convergence and convergecast in BLE networks.

Imbuing Spirituality to Enhance the Effectiveness of Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs)

Conventional approaches of management researchers are based on economic rationality and human emotions, which are deficient in the spiritual aspects of humanity. Spirituality is an element of practical wisdom. Rationalist ethics and knowledge do not alone ensure virtues. The concept of spirituality places an ultimate or an apparent immaterial truth. It enables a person to discover the essence of their being. Spiritual practices, including prayer, meditation, and contemplation, are anticipated to enhance an individual’s inner space. They facilitate non-judgmental awareness, the ability to recover quickly from negative stimuli like stress or calmness, empathy, and increased flexibility in response. An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is an arrangement between a corporation, academic institution, or government agency and its employees that provides a variety of support programs for employees mainly dealing with work-related difficulties. The concept of the EAP originated in the 1970s to reduce substance abuse and intoxication in the workplace. Since then, EAPs have evolved to deal with various issues such as depression, marital problems, anger, anxiety, physical illness, etc. EAPs can provide daycare for employees' children and elder care for employees' parents. The relevance of spiritual wisdom in management is a widely accepted fact. This paper examines how Employee Assistance Programs can be made more effective by imbuing spiritual practices

Pengembangan Green Tourism Dengan Penerapan Green Financing Berbasis Kearifan Lokal Di Wilayah Kabupaten Mandailing Natal

This research aims to examine the potential for sustainable tourism development by implementing the Green Tourism and Green Financing approaches based on local wisdom in the Mandailing Natal Regency area. The primary focus of this study is to formulate strategies and implementation models that can enhance the positive impact of tourism on the environment and the local community. The research employs a qualitative methodology with a case study approach. Data is collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and analysis of relevant documents. Additionally, a local potential mapping and sustainability analysis approach is used to identify opportunities and challenges in developing green tourism in the Mandailing Natal Regency. The findings indicate significant potential for developing green tourism in this area by leveraging local wisdom. The implementation of Green Financing has proven to provide the necessary financial support for sustainable tourism projects. Moreover, the integration of local wisdom in tourism management can create harmonious interactions between tourists and the local community, enhancing the tourist experience and positively impacting local economic development. The results of this research offer practical guidance for local governments, tourism stakeholders, and financial institutions in building sustainable green tourism in the Mandailing Natal Regency

Discriminant analysis of ecological factors influencing sarcopenia in older people in South Korea.

This study aimed to investigate the ecological system factors that influence discrimination of sarcopenia among older individuals living in contemporary society. Data analysis included information from 618 older adults individuals aged 65 years or older residing in South Korea. To assess variations in ecological system factors related to SARC-F scores, we conducted correlation analysis and t-tests. Discriminant analysis was used to identify factors contributing to group discrimination. The key findings are summarized as follows. First, significant differences at the p < 0.001 level were observed between the SARC-F score groups in various aspects, including attitudes toward life, wisdom in life, health management, social support, media availability, sports environment, collectivist values, and values associated with death. Further, service environment differences were significant at p < 0.01 level, while social belonging and social activities exhibited significance at p < 0.05. Second, factors influencing group discrimination based on the SARC-F scores were ranked in the following order: health management, attitudes toward life, fear of own death, wisdom in life, physical environment, sports environment, media availability, social support, fear of the own dying, collectivist values, service environment, social activities, and social belonging. Notably, the SARC-F tool, which is used for sarcopenia discrimination, primarily concentrates on physical functioning and demonstrates relatively low sensitivity. Therefore, to enhance the precision of sarcopenia discrimination within a score-based group discrimination process, it is imperative to incorporate ecological system factors that exert a significant influence. These modifications aimed to enhance the clarity and precision of the text in an academic context.

Framework of managerial wisdom: an analysis using the TOPSIS and MICMAC process

PurposeBehavioral characteristics and the existence of personal knowledge and skills that are essential in forming a capable manager with specialized insight, is one of the most important evaluation processes in appointing a manager. Wisdom as a trait of a set of personal characteristics and cognitive knowledge of a capable manager will gain competitive advantages for the company and external stakeholders. The purpose of this study is to present the framework of managerial financial wisdom through qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.Design/methodology/approachThe study uses grounded theory methodology to identify factors for managerial financial wisdom and uses a MICMAC process to evaluate the power of driving and dependence among factors. MaxQDA software was used for data coding and analysis. The MICMAC process by determining the location of each of the sub-themes in the four-dimensional matrix, seeks to determine the most effective criterion in the context of the study. The method of data collection is mixed and in terms of philosophical nature, this study is inductive/comparative.FindingsThe results of the research in the qualitative part indicate the presentation of a framework based on two categories, four components, and thirty themes. The results of the quantitative part of the study also showed that the most important factor of managerial financial wisdom is market-oriented values. Finally, it was found that the social trust caused by managerial financial wisdom is considered a factor in gaining more shares in the capital market due to the positive stimulus in this dimension.Originality/valueThe study is relevant for both practitioners and academia and has significant implications. For practitioners, the structural linkages identified will help enhance managerial wisdom effectiveness and drive the critical metrics for financial decisions and shareholders' rights protection. The study may help financial market practitioners better understand future policies. Academia and researchers can take reference from methodologies used in this study for exploring factors of interest and developing matrix linkages among them.

Kearifan Lokal Dan Pendekatan Dalam Pemanfaatan Sumber Daya Alam Untuk Ekonomi Desa Sesaot

Local wisdom is a cultural heritage that has been acquired and passed down from generation to generation in a community or society. Local wisdom includes knowledge, values, technology, practices and skills possessed by the community in utilizing the natural resources around them. Wise and sustainable use of natural resources is important in the context of village economic development, especially in Indonesia which has abundant natural wealth. Research Method Observer as an instrument (human instrument) This means that the researcher himself has the function of determining the focus of the research, selecting informants as data sources, carrying out data collection, analyzing data, and making conclusions about his findings. The research results show that local wisdom in the use of natural resources for village economic development, especially in Sesaot Village, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. Local wisdom is a cultural heritage that includes knowledge, values, technology, practices and skills passed down from generation to generation in a community. Wise and sustainable use of natural resources is important in the context of village economic development in Indonesia which has abundant natural wealth. The local wisdom approach in the use of natural resources includes the knowledge, practices and expertise possessed by local communities. In Sesaot Village, the community has long developed local wisdom in utilizing the natural resources around them, including in managing forests using a customary system that has existed since their ancestors. By optimizing local wisdom, communities are able to utilize natural resources sustainably while preserving nature through environmentally friendly practices. Utilization of natural resources for village economic development provides many benefits, including increasing income, creating jobs, developing industry, strengthening the local economy, and improving the quality of life of village communities. Doing great by doing good: organizational Pao culture and its CSR effect

PurposeThis paper explores the mechanism of organizational Pao culture in an Oriental cultural context and its impact on CSR implementation and outcomes.Design/methodology/approachThree short cases are presented to reveal how the traditional Chinese Pao culture influences CSR implementation and outcomes in Chinese firms.FindingsThe findings suggest that the traditional Chinese Pao culture is the driver behind the value orientation of the norms of passing on favors and doing good deeds will be rewarded. Knowing this can help leaders in such organizations to incentivize member participation in building organizational Pao culture.Practical implicationsThrough the collaborative construction of the core of Pao culture and external evaluation standards of corporate social responsibility, enterprises can thus achieve the dual goals of self-development and social benefits.Social implicationsEnterprises and managers can be encouraged to draw management wisdom from the essence of cultural norms, so as to achieve the goal of realizing the interests of all CSR participants.Originality/valueThis paper emphasizes the dynamics and outcomes of CSR implementation in the context of the traditional Chinese Pao culture and expands the boundary of CSR research beyond a Western cultural setting.

Building Practical Wisdom in Business, Organisation and Management through Transformative Civic Education (´Bildung´)

This paper revisits the concept of Bildung as a transformative approach to civic education, aimed at renewing business and management education and organisational practices to foster both human and non-human flourishing and sustainability. It synthesises key insights from the literature on practical wisdom and wisdom learning to develop a conception of spiritually informed, embodied wiser practice in business, organisation, and management. As a component of transformative civic education, Bildung is demonstrated to have significant potential for cultivating the character traits, identity, and capabilities needed to address the profound ecological, economic, social, and cultural challenges of the Anthropocene. Specifically, the paper establishes a nexus between spirituality and embodied practical wisdom, advocating for more responsible and sustainable business practices and education. By leveraging the tradition of Bildung, both business practices and education can be rejuvenated through the development of the whole person within social praxis.

The mediating role of coping styles between nurses’ workplace bullying and professional quality of life

AimsThis study aimed to explore the relationship between workplace bullying among nurses and their professional quality of life, as well as the mediating role of coping styles between the two factors.BackgroundIn China, the overall status of nurses' professional quality of life is not optimistic, and the problems of low compassion satisfaction and high compassion fatigue persist. Workplace bullying, which is a serious global issue, can negatively impact the mental health and professional quality of nurses. However, it has still not attracted enough attention from managers.MethodsThe study used a cross-sectional research design and surveyed 297 clinical nurses from two tertiary grade A hospitals in Wuhan, China. Data were collected through an online questionnaire survey from March to May 2022. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods, including Pearson correlation analysis and structural equation modeling.ResultsThe score for nurses' workplace bullying was 38.72 ± 12.30. The scores for the three dimensions of professional quality of life were 27.56 ± 4.79 for compassion satisfaction, 30.51 ± 4.33 for burnout, and 28.47 ± 4.65 for secondary trauma stress. The scores for positive coping style and negative coping style were 34.59 ± 5.72 and 20.34 ± 5.08 points, respectively. Workplace bullying had a direct negative effect on compassion satisfaction, as well as positive direct effects on burnout and secondary traumatic stress. Coping styles played a mediating effect between workplace bullying and the pairwise relationships of compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary trauma stress.ConclusionWorkplace bullying hurts nurses' professional quality of life while coping styles plays an mediating role between workplace bullying and professional quality of life. Nursing managers can improve nurses' professional quality of life by reducing workplace bullying and enhancing positive coping style.Implications for nursing managementNursing managers can employ management wisdom and techniques to mitigate the presence and detrimental effects of workplace bullying. This, in turn, promotes a positive work environment and enhances the professional quality of life for nurses.

The Antinomy of Green Economy Implementation Towards Indigenous People in Natural Resources Management

Is Green economy practices adaptive and universally applicable? There are certain conditions where the application cannot be imposed, such as in the environment of indigenous peoples. This research aims to determine the contradiction and explore the Actualization of local wisdom among indigenous peoples in natural resource management. This research uses socio-legal methods with the conceptual, case, and statute approaches. The results showed that: Firstly, conflicts arising from differences in management techniques, concepts, claims of ownership rights, access, and objectives of natural resource management between indigenous peoples and green economy are significantly different. Secondly, Actualization and implementation in Indonesia can be done by adjusting the projection of green economy development with the wisdom patterns of each region, the participation of indigenous peoples in the policy formulation process, and the values of local wisdom in natural resource management as a limitation of the implementation of the green economy.

A review of intellectual capital measurement and reporting

The emergence of the "new economy," which is primarily propelled by knowledge and information, global competition, and evolving interpersonal activity patterns, is ascribed to the growing significance of intellectual capital (IC) as a management and research area. The claim that information and communication (IC) will play a significant role in determining enterprise value and the health of the national economy in the twenty-first century is, in fact, well supported. The drive to create new measures that can be used to track and report the value attributed to knowledge within an organization stems from this realization of the importance of know-how. The process has been accelerated by the fact that early research on intangible assets and the application of non-financial measures has been found in the accounting financial reports of Swedish enterprises. This is a major divergence from conventional wisdom in management and finance accounting.

Investigating practical wisdom in complex system management: What is it and how do we get more?

AbstractSystems are now extremely complex with the continuous involvement of multiple stakeholders and rapidly advancing technology, and a new way of viewing high‐performance system management and decision‐making is needed. This paper considers the use of practical wisdom as a promising way of revitalising system management to improve the success rate in making critical decisions. Practical wisdom has been investigated as a useful approach in many fields, including philosophy, psychology, health, education and organisation studies: however, its application to system management is sparse. Questionnaires were sent to 124 manager participants to assess their view of the importance of various practical wisdom attributes as these relate to system management success. Applying the exploratory factor analysis technique emerged the following factors: (1) practical mindset; (2) stakeholder mindset; (3) moral mindset; (4) win‐win mindset; and (5) holistic thinking mindset. Two of these factors, stakeholder mindset and win‐win mindset, have not previously emerged in practical wisdom research. The factors extracted were validated via both technical techniques and considered commentary by senior leadership practitioners. The results of this study can assist managers to develop greater insight into optimal management of increasingly complex systems via consideration of these practical wisdom factors and the interplay between them.

Evolution of Knowledge Management Towards Wisdom Management

To provide solutions to the world’s global challenges, there is an urgent demand for wise organisations, wise leadership, wise workers, and most importantly, for wise actions. Since the mid-1990s, Knowledge Management (KM) as a discipline and practice has emerged internationally, and it has passed through several phases of development. Simultaneously, in the last four decades we have experienced a growth of wisdom research and intensified discourses about Wisdom Management (WM) as a possible venue for dealing with wicked problems. The dilemma is whether the current sixth phase of KM is able to address the global problems of the world. Therefore, this conceptual paper seeks to answer the question if WM will complement or replace KM. This paper explores the evolutionary phases of KM; it presents the discourses about WM, and it discovers the presence of wisdom in the KM literature (1995–2022). The research approach is explorative and inductive. Methods of Computational Social Sciences and RStudio as an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) are utilised for analysing, visualising, and interpreting the data. This paper analyses 255 wisdom-related keywords that emerged from 39 sources written by 50 authors. The three data analyses methods are: word cloud data analysis; dictionary-based data analysis, and bipartite network analysis. The findings are presented in word clouds; keywords frequency; bipartite network, and in a synthesised framework to show the similar and different concepts of KM and WM. The novelty value of this paper is the result of the bipartite network analysis that allows to identify how authors and wisdom-related keywords are connected with the same word nodes. This paper contributes to KM because it is the first study to explore and illustrate the presence of wisdom attributes in the KM literature.

Mindfulness Practices for Ethical Leadership in a Post Covid-19 World

Does embracing a practice of mindfulness nurture and sustain ethical leadership skills in top managers? In this conceptual paper, an attempt has been made to address the question. In the aftermath of Covid-19, existing leadership practices need to be reevaluated and revitalized to meet the expectations of an increasingly interdependent, uncertain, and rapidly changing global business environment. The business environment needs top managers who are able to sustain their ethical leadership skillset, which involves strategic thinking, the capacity to learn, the capacity to change, and managerial wisdom (Boal &amp; Hooijberg, 2001). Drawing on upper echelons theory, and the ethical leadership framework, first, the characteristics of ethical leaders are outlined. Next, drawing on the theories of social and cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and medicine, the importance of mindfulness to cultivate ethical leadership qualities is highlighted. Finally, mindfulness tools are offered for managers for sustained ethical leadership.

Ecological Wisdom and Inheritance Thinking of the Traditional Village’s Water Resources Management in Taihang Mountains

ABSTRACT In the context of China’s rapid urbanization, the landscape texture and ecosystem of traditional villages are being constructively damaged, especially the water ecosystem responsible for maintaining the sustainable development of villages. It is urgent to explore the green construction technology of traditional villages. However, some traditional villages in Taihang Mountain area exist and develop in the environment of drought and flood, which contains rich ecological water resources management wisdom. Therefore, in this paper, Taihang Mountain is selected as the research area to collect data through literature analysis, field research, and in-depth interviews. This study uses ArcGIS spatial analysis and statistical functions to analyze the acquired data and explore the water resources management practices of traditional villages based on three aspects: safety, function, and spirit. Then it summarizes four key inspirations for contemporary water resources management: “adapt to local conditions, pay equal attention to water use and prevention”; “division of labor and cooperation complement each other”, “low cost, low technology, low maintenance” and “make the best use of materials and compound functions”. These advantageous insights can be offered for the preservation of traditional villages, the enhancement of the living environment, and the management and growth of urban stormwater.

The Concept of Scientific and Religious Truth (Case Study of Scientific and Religious Truth in Setu Wetan Village)

This research aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of perceptions of truth in the community of Setu Wetan Village, especially in a religious context, and how this view influences the way they seek the truth. The research was conducted in the setting of a district in Cirebon Regency. Primary data was obtained through in-depth interviews with the people of Setu Wetan Village as the main respondents. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and qualitatively with the aim of providing a comprehensive picture to the reader. The results of the analysis show that science has an inseparable role in the lives of religious communities in the village. Therefore, the development of education and knowledge is very important in improving the quality of life of the people in the Village. The research provides insights into the perceptions of truth in the community of Setu Wetan Village and how it influences their way of seeking the truth. The study emphasizes the importance of science and education in the lives of religious communities in the village. The research also highlights the relevance of local knowledge and wisdom in disaster management in Indonesia.
