The contingent influence of family managerial efficacy and related spousalperceptions on the relationship between stressor pile-up and family cohesion is described. It was found that perceived loss of managerial efficacy in conjunction with discrepant spousal perceptions of such change substantially increased the family's vulnerability to stressor pile-up. Based on these findings the components for a preventive family stress educational program are suggested.
