Quality of surveying instrument and equipment management decides the production efficiency of surveying and mapping unit, this paper discusses the design and realization of surveying instrument and equipment management system which based on VFP, in accordance with the feature of our team’s surveying instrument and equipment and surveying produce, make use of simple and high efficiency relation database model of VFP, which builds our team’s management system platform of surveying instrument and equipment. System has good function of data browse、inquiry and printout, this can laid the foundation of surveying instrument and equipment management digitalization and visualization for our team.

Study and Application of Remote Data Moving Transmission under the Network Convergence

Abstract The data transmission is an important problem in remote applications. Advance of network convergence has help to select and use data transmission model. The embedded system and data management platform is a key of the design. With communication module, interface technology and the transceiver which has independent intellectual property rights connected broadband network and mobile network seamlessly. Using the distribution system of mobile base station to realize the wireless transmission, using public networks to implement the data transmission, making the distant information system break through area restrictions and realizing transmission of the moving data, it has been fully recognized in long-distance medical care applications.

Damage Control System: an Application for Ship Safety and Security

A crucial application in naval field called Damage Control System (DCS) is the focus of this paper. DCS is an information-retrieval and equipment-control system that allows ship personnel to detect, analyze, and handle various types of situations which are hazardous for shipboard safety. The DCS is embedded in the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) and developed by researches of, Apphia s.r.l., CCII (Centro Cultura Innovativa d'Impresa) of University of Salento and Avio S.p.A..

CAN-Based Monitor and Control Platform for Battery Management System

In this paper, based on the characteristics of battery management system, a monitor and control platform for battery management system was designed, using Kvaser Leaf bus analyzer and CAN bus technology. Test shows the platform has well performance in data monitoring, control strategy optimization and hardware test.

The digital course training workshop for online learning and teaching

A primary concern with Information Technology (IT) training has been that IT-based training focuses upon the technical or point and click aspects of learning management system (LMS) platforms and pedagogy-enhancing software without any concern for the content of the courses. The Digital Course Training Workshop (DCTW) approach examined in this article addresses this concern by supporting a content-first approach. The DCTW approach--an initiative at a Midwestern University--is aimed at supporting faculty through the process of transitioning from face-to-face (F2F) courses to online teaching. Participating faculty enter the week-long seminar with traditional course content and leave with digital content transitioned into the appropriate LMS platform. This article is intended to stimulate reflections on the need for systematic faculty professional development programs and activities to help higher education faculty in the transition process from traditional to online courses.

Multi-Disease Data Management System Platform for Vector-Borne Diseases

BackgroundEmerging information technologies present new opportunities to reduce the burden of malaria, dengue and other infectious diseases. For example, use of a data management system software package can help disease control programs to better manage and analyze their data, and thus enhances their ability to carry out continuous surveillance, monitor interventions and evaluate control program performance.Methods and FindingsWe describe a novel multi-disease data management system platform (hereinafter referred to as the system) with current capacity for dengue and malaria that supports data entry, storage and query. It also allows for production of maps and both standardized and customized reports. The system is comprised exclusively of software components that can be distributed without the user incurring licensing costs. It was designed to maximize the ability of the user to adapt the system to local conditions without involvement of software developers. Key points of system adaptability include 1) customizable functionality content by disease, 2) configurable roles and permissions, 3) customizable user interfaces and display labels and 4) configurable information trees including a geographical entity tree and a term tree. The system includes significant portions of functionality that is entirely or in large part re-used across diseases, which provides an economy of scope as new diseases downstream are added to the system at decreased cost.ConclusionsWe have developed a system with great potential for aiding disease control programs in their task to reduce the burden of dengue and malaria, including the implementation of integrated vector management programs. Next steps include evaluations of operational implementations of the current system with capacity for dengue and malaria, and the inclusion in the system platform of other important vector-borne diseases.

Moreover, for a practical example, the paper introduces its application.

Research on Runtime Environment of Spacecraft Testing System

Spacecraft testing is an important phase of developing a spacecraft. In order to automate the testing process in parallel pattern, this paper presented the runtime environment architecture of testing system based on task-collaborating. In this architecture, there are three challenges: task-collaborating, task executing, resource management. Through analyzing the interference pattern between parallel test tasks, this paper proposed a collaborative strategy between parallel test tasks according to conflict detection. Then the structure of executing system and resource management platform were introduced. In prototype system, the experimental result proved effectiveness of the scheme presented in this paper.

Information Management of Data Resources in Product Design and Manufacture Process

Data is the main subject of enterprise resource planning. It is an important way to enhance economic efficiency and competitiveness, by taking advantage of information technology to implement the data/information management and ensure their objectivity, accuracy and efficiency. In product design and manufacture process, the life time of data resources are divided into production, collection, arrangement, inputting, transmission, using, etc. If data resources information management system and management platform is established, it can record, share and manage data timely and accurately. At the beginning of data management, the clear and reasonable planning is an important foundation to achieve data information management. So, the concrete problems of planning were discussed about management objective, content and mode. In the course of design and manufacture, the data types, data management user and management basic conditions were summarized, and then it was discussed about framework and process of data resource management. Finally, the concrete operation and management measures were discussed on each link of data life cycle. The paper’s idea has a great impact for reference to integration and compromise of product’s data resources, establishment data resources management platform and taking management measures.

Gestión documental en un grupo de investigación biomédica

In order to systematize the processes and improve the quality of the activities of a biomedical research group, a research, development and innovation (RDI) management system based on the Spanish norm UNE 166002:2006 has been designed and implemented. We describe the experience and results obtained during the selection and adaptation of the OpenKM document management system platform as a useful means for research group management. The usefulness of this type of platform for this purpose is demonstrated, which could be exported to other research groups.

Ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem: uma análise de três sistemas geradores de ambientes para educação a distância

The goal of this article is to contribute to the agenda of Applied Linguistic when it comes to the use of the Internet as a virtual learning environment for the process of distance learning; environments which are generated from learning management systems. We begin our text with a brief literature review trying to define the term “virtual learning environment” in the scope of distance learning. We observe the students’ interfaces available from three learning management system platforms, after a brief description of each of them. Then, we name some of the similarities and differences in the categories we have selected for our analysis. We present the analysis of the characteristics in which the platforms are similar and the ones in which they differ. Finally, we review the definition we have proposed for the term “virtual learning environment” and reflect if the three platforms match our initial premises.

Les plates-formes : une réponse aux problèmes de l’enseignement-apprentissage des langues dans le contexte universitaire ?

L’enseignement des langues étrangères dans la filière LEA1 à l’université pose un problème théorique : comment assurer le traitement cognitif des données par les apprenants dans des groupes de plus de cent étudiants ? Nous avons posé des hypothèses et mis en place un dispositif alternant tâches et interventions magistrales pour tenter de répondre aux défis du contexte. La mise en place de la plate-forme de l’université de Nantes, opérationnelle depuis septembre 2006 et baptisée MADOC2, a permis de faire évoluer le dispositif avec pour objectif de renforcer les interactions. Avec la collaboration d’une étudiante de Master 2 didactique des langues, nous avons mesuré les effets de cette évolution. Après une présentation du contexte et du dispositif, cet article se propose de faire le bilan des avancées et des limites rencontrées.

Utilización de Moodle en la gestión de información, documental y del conocimiento en grupos de investigación

Two research groups at the Inter-American School of Library Science, University of Antioquia (Medellín-Colombia), share their experience and lessons learned during the adaptation and use of the Moodle learning management system (LMS) platform as a useful means for information, documentation, and knowledge management in research projects. Moodle was developed as a tool for online course management. This ongoing adaptation has yielded important benefits to the researchers and become a model for the University. This type of technological platform, available to most universities for instructional purposes, has potential to become a key developmental tool for any research project or group.

Italian navy trends in automation of ship controls

This paper provides an overview of trends of the Italian Navy regarding automation of ship control systems. The first part of the paper describes the recent evolution of IPMS (Integrated Platform Management System) on board Italian Navy Vessels and the current status of the functional integration. Following is an overview of expected capabilities of future Ship Control Systems to reduce manning on the next generation of Navy ships.

KMD

The Keck Microarray Database (KMD) is a port of the ArrayExpress database from Oracle to the MySQL environment. The requirements for a locally available, open-source microarray database solution based on ArrayExpress are analysed in this article. The differences between the Oracle and MySQL environments are identified and the method to port to MySQL is described, providing a unified relational database management system (RDBMS) platform for both MIAMExpress and ArrayExpress. Web‐based tools for environmental management

Contemporary urban environmental management calls for dissemination of environmental information among the public. This can be achieved by using a simple, while at the same time efficient, environmental management system platform, that integrates the monitoring and modelling of environmental data. The use of such a platform enables the urban planner and the environment‐related decision maker to have direct access to the relevant monitoring data, while a library of environmental management scenarios is developed and can be enriched. This article discusses the results of the IRENIE Environmental Telematics project in Athens, Greece, including the Web‐based geographical information system and its configuration. This specific project involves the application possibilities mentioned above, while integrating environmental monitoring, modelling and mapping over the Internet. The results discussed here demonstrate a significant increase in the capabilities of relevant authorities to advance their environmental management potential and to better inform the sensitive members of the public on potential health hazards.

On the Design of Alerts for Future Platform Management Systems

There is a requirement for improved user performance with warnings and alarms within the Platform Management Systems (PMSs) on current ships. A programme has been conducted for MoD/Ship Support Agency to investigate the optimal design characteristics of all alerts for future PMS. The past approach to alarms and warnings was considered 'equipment centred' while the approach taken here is 'user centred'. The requirements for future major Royal Navy platforms were considered: the likely functionality of their PMS workstations, the means of on-line control, and concepts for the design of the human-computer interaction. Hypotheses were formulated on potentially desirable categories of information to be associated with alerts. These categories are identified as reference (including function, location and organisation), significance (covering redundancy, timeliness and hazard) and statements of quantified information including encyclopaedic material. Results from two trials with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) supported the hypotheses.

In Pursuit of Lean Manning: Ship Automation and the Value of Simulation

In both naval and commercial marine sectors, ship owners and operators are faced with the need to operate sophisticated vessels with lean-manning levels. This is graphically illustrated by the goals of the DD21 program in the US, where the target complement of95 is one of the main drivers behind a 70% reduction in operating costs. Such lean-manning policies are one motivator towards increasingly sophisticated data-driven systems being fitted on-board. The design of such systems is no longer the remit of purely control engineers, but relies heavily on both on human science and simulation.This paper outlines the changing customer requirements in advanced marine applications and the impact of these trends on a major supplier of marine systems. The development of advanced Platform Management Systems in support of cost reduction and lean manning is then reviewed in more depth, with particular focus on the role of human factors and simulation.

WIDE workflow development methodology

The development of workflows (WFs) for complex organizations to be interfaced with existing information systems requires a specific methodological approach to guarantee benefits and effectiveness of the final results. In fact, the WF should be well integrated in the organization both from the technical and the organizational point of view. While the characteristics of the Workflow Management System (WFMS) platform adopted in the implementation are relevant to establish the boundary between the workflow system and other related applications, it is also important that the analysis and design phases are developed independently of those characteristics.The WF development methodology proposed in this paper starts with an analysis phase based on UML, adopted for business process descriptions and business goals. The design phase proposes a pattern-based approach to workflow schemas design, based on the WIDE WF model. This model allows a flexible representation of the exceptions which may occur during WF execution. It also considers the interaction of the WF with external applications and information systems. Finally, the paper briefly discusses the mapping to commercial and prototype WFMSs.
