Diseases of the Salivary Glands

Drs Rankow and Polayes and the other 15 contributors from the Yale New Haven Hospital and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons have collaborated on a superb textbook for the specialist who treats salivary gland disorders and for residents in otolaryngology. Organization of the book progresses from a delightful chapter on the historical background to a detailed anatomical, physiologic, roentgenologic, and pathologic discussion of the salivary glands. The remaining 65% of the book covers the various afflictions of the salivary glands and their surrounding structures and includes sections on management of facial paralysis, reconstructive procedures following trauma and surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Highlights of the book include the chapter on salivary secretions in health and disease, where much physiologic and disease-related data is compiled from the dental and physiologic literature.
