Localization of cytochrome oxidase in mammalian salivary glands has been studied in cold microtome sections with the BURSTONE technique.1. The salivary gland duct was characterized by the highest stainability for cytochrome oxidase reaction, especially, in the striated duct epithelium.2. The acini of salivary glands showed a moderate to low activity in serous cells, while low to trace in mucous cells.3. The presence of intense activity of cytochrome oxidase in the duct systems was intersting as was the case certain hydrolytic enzymes. Mitochondrial dispositions reported by previous workers were also reviewed.
