The Relationship among Body Image, Appearance Management Behavior and Psychosocial Health of Women Defected North Korea

This study was conducted to provide baseline database by investigating the relationship among body image, general appearance management behavior and psychosocial health of women defected North Korea. From December 2014 to February 2015, total 201 participants were enrolled in this study. The data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 program. The results were as follows: 1) The score of body image was 2.65±1.02 in 5 points. Subjects had a lot of make-up and clothes behaviors. However exercise, food intake behaviors of subjects were lowerer than average. Psychosocial health score was 42.95±5.69. Whole 99.5% was high risk group. 2) There were significant correlation among the body image, general appearance management behavior, BMI and intent weight loss. In general appearance management behavior, there were significant positive correlation between sub categories. Psychosocial health revealed positive correlation with make-up and clothing management behaviors and age. Also in general characteristics, there were significant correlation among the age, BMI, intent weight loss and interest toward plastic surgery. Therefore, it would be utilized in developing programs for the positive body image building and appearance management behaviors. Moreover, it could be helped they have psychosocial health.

여고생의 패스트패션 태도 유형에 따른 자의식과 화장행동

The purpose of this study is to classify the attitudes toward fast fashion into groups and analyze the differences of the self-consciousness, and make-up behavior by groups. Questionnaires are being administered from 179 high school girls living in Deagu metropolitan City. Frequency, factor analysis, reliability analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncant-test, and <TEX>${\chi}^2$</TEX>-test are all used for data analysis. Our findings are as follows. The attitude toward fast fashion shows a significant correlation with the sub-variable self-consciousness and make-up behavior. Attitude toward fast fashion is being categorized into convenience focus, fashion focus, design focus, and season focus. Self-consciousness is social self-consciousness, social anxiety, private self-consciousness, and private anxiety. Make-up behavior is positive effect, fashion leader, and conformity. Attitude toward fast fashion is classified into three groups: disposability, fashionability, and low interest of fashion. The groups show a significant difference in the self-consciousness, and make-up behavior. Groups display no distinctions between the sub-variables in the actual conditions of cosmetics such as a first time for make-up and frequence of visit.

여대생들의 메이크업 인식 유형에 따른 관심도

This study presents a favoured pattern of makeup and psychology according to it by recognition type, through an examination of recognition for it in order to understand interest and awareness regarding it among female college students. The makeup is emotionally effective for confidence and positive thought, and is considered to be a category of social manner. The subjects can be grouped according to difference in recognition of makeup: contemplation, reception, observation and correspondence group. Although there is slight difference in the interest of four types of makeup depending on recognition difference, the behavior of makeup plays a large part in establishing personal relationships. The pattern of makeup favours natural style which places an emphasis on skin tone. The female college students in their 20s, who are at the center of current beauty trend market, were asked to conduct questionnaire of makeup, so interest and awareness of makeup behavior can be understand. If these findings are actively used in the beauty trend, various and effective beauty cultures are considered to be created.

The Influence on Make-up Behavior and Cosmetics Consumption Tendency to Interest in Appearence of Female Middle School Students - Gwangju Area -

본 연구는 여중생의 외모관심도가 화장행동 및 사용실태, 화장품 소비성향에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 빠르게 변화하는 청소년 화장품 시장의 상품 기획 및 마케팅 전략에 기여하고자 하였다.BR 본 연구를 위하여 광주지역의 여중생 180명을 대상으로 설문조사를 통하여 자료를 수집하여 SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Science) WIN 20.0 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구대상자의 일반적 특성을 파악하기 위하여 빈도와 백분율을 산출하였으며, 외모관심도, 화장행동 및 사용실태, 화장품 소비성향에 대한 빈도분석을 실시하였고, 외모관심도에 따른 화장행동 및 사용실태, 화장품 소비성향을 분석하였고 일반적 특성 변인에 따라 어떤 차이를 나타내는지 알아보기 위해 교차분석하였다,BR 여중생의 외모관심도를 측정한 결과 외모관심그룹이 전체의 46.7%, 외모무관심그룹이 53.3%로 나타났다.BR 이 연구를 수행하여 조사결과를 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다.BR 첫째, 외모관심도에 따른 화장행동 분석결과, 외모관심그룹의 경우 학교안에서는 기초+BB크림+립제품류가 27.4%, 학교 밖에서는 기초+BB크림+립제품류+아이라인, 마스카라 가 35.4%로 외모무관심그룹에 비해 색조화장을 두드러지게 하는 것으로 나타났다.BR 둘째, 외모관심도에 따른 화장품 사용실태를 분석한 결과, 외모관심그룹은 기조화장품 중 스킨.로션, 클렌징 순으로 가장 많이 사용한다고 나타났고, 색조화장품 중 BB크림, 아리라이너, 립스틱의 순으로 나타났다. 그에 반해 외모무관심그룹은 볼터지, 마스카라, 아이새도우 순으로 나타나났다.BR 세째, 외모관심도에 따른 화장품 소비성향에 대한 분석 결과, 외모관심그룹과 외모무관심그룹 모두 화장품 구매는 본인이 직접하고, 화장품 전문점을 통해 화장품을 구매하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 구매 시 중요시하는 것은 본인의 피부 적합성이 가장 높게 나타났으며 화장품 구입 이유는 화장품을 다 쓰고 난 후 구매 한다가 가장 높게 나타났다.BR 이러한 결과를 종합해보면, 외모관심도에 따라 화장 행동과 화장품 사용에 적극적이었으며 화장품 구매에 대한 관심과 참여의 잠재 가능성을 시사하고 있다고 여겨진다. 따라서 여중생들도 외모에 관심을 가지고 화장품을 구매할 수 있는 소비자로서 특성을 보다 구체적으로 밝혀줌으로써 여중생을 겨냥한 제품기획 및 마케팅 전략수립 시 기초자료로 사용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. 또한 청소년들의 무분별한 화장행위 및 사용실태로 인해 부작용의 사례도 연구되어지고 있어 여중생의 화장에 대한 이해를 넓히고 올바른 화장행동과 인식에 대한 교육 방안을 위한 다양한 연구가 필요하리라 사료된다.

Quantifying Political Behavior on Mobile Devices over Time: A User Evaluation Study

The way citizens use technology has changed dramatically in just the last decade; nearly one-third of American adults own tablets, and almost a half own smartphones. But it is not just ownership that is on the rise; citizens are increasingly using such technology to communicate about and participate in politics. The present study utilized a multimethod approach to tap into how technology affects citizens’ political behaviors online in the context of the 2012 U.S. Presidential primary season. Compiling survey data with tablet-tracking behavior in a field experiment, results showed that users spent more days with online aggregators (such as Google and Yahoo), recreational sites (like games), and social interaction sites than news and politics. But when they did spend time with news and politics, they spent an average of 10 minutes on each news page, and national/regional news was the most visited subtopic. User-specific descriptive analyses provide portraits of each user’s demographic makeup and online political behavior. Finally, we linked user ideology to user behavior through accurate, real-time behavioral observations. Results suggest that participants are more likely to view news from their own ideological perspective than the other, demonstrating evidence for selective exposure.

유행선도력과 외모관심도에 따른 추구혜택 및 화장행동 비교

This study identified market segments by fashion leadership and appearance interest and compared each group in clothing benefits and makeup benefits pursued as well as makeup behaviors. The data were collected from 20~30 women during September, 2012, and a total of 302 surveys were analyzed. About 46.5% was in their twenties, and more than 39% was students and 35.4% was office workers. Findings were as follows. First, according to fashion leadership and appearance interest, three groups were identified, fashion leader group, appearance interest group, and uninterested group. Second, uninterested group showed the oldest average age among three groups. Fashion leader group showed the higher proportion of students and professional. Third, fashion leader group showed the highest mean score of self-esteem, while uninterested group showed the lowest level. Fourth, fashion leader group pursued attractive body image, social benefit, and individuality for clothing benefits, while uninterested group valued convenience. Fifth, with respect to makeup benefits pursued, fashion leader group presented a high level of esthetic, self-confidence, and functional pursuit, whereas uninterested group showed the opposite. Sixth, respondents tended to depend on internet most as cosmetic information sources, followed by family/friends, and magazine in order. Implications for cosmetic business were provided.

여대생의 자기이미지와 미디어관여가 외모관리행동에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study is to verify effects of female college students' self-image on appearance management behavior and investigate the differences caused by TV involvement and entertainer imitation on the appearance managing behavior. Respondents of the survey were 424 college females living in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. For statistical analysis, factor analysis and multiple regression were conducted using SPSS 18.0 program. The results of this study are as follows: First, self-image among college females were composed of 5 factors, which were active image, feminine image, intelligent image, gentle image and modern image. Second, college females' self-image influenced on skin management behavior, hair management behavior, make-up behavior, clothing behavior and weight management behavior significantly. Specifically, as respondents' active image and modern image are getting higher, they tend to perform skin management behavior, hair management behavior and clothing behavior. As female students' intellectual image and modern image were getting higher, more positive effects were found on make-up behavior. As female students' gentle image and active image were getting higher, there was more positive effects on weight management behavior. But, female students' self-image didn't show significant effects on cosmetic surgery behavior. Third, when subjects' TV involvement was high, self-image made greater effect on skin management behavior and cosmetic surgery behavior than those with low TV involvement. Forth, when entertainer imitation was high, self-image made greater effects on skin management behavior, hair management behavior, clothing behavior, make-up behavior, weight management behavior, cosmetic surgery behavior than those with low entertainer management.

Fingerprinting genomic heterogeneity in primary breast carcinomas and among sentinel lymph node metastases: implications for clinical management of breast cancer patients.

Abstract Abstract #1059 Background: Sentinel lymph node (SLN) status is a key prognostic factor for breast cancer patients. The SLN hypothesis postulates that cancer cells initially spread from the primary tumor to the first-draining (sentinel) node(s) before reaching higher echelon nodes. Although SLN biopsy is clinically useful for staging patients, little is known about the genomic heritage of cells that define the genetic makeup and clinical behavior of nodal metastases. We used allelic imbalance (AI) coupled with high-density SNP genotyping to examine the extent of genetic heterogeneity in primary tumors and relationships among metastases in sentinel and non-sentinel axillary lymph nodes in 30 patients with node positive breast cancer.&amp;#x2028; Material and Methods: Pathologically positive nodes were identified by H&amp;E/IHC, while sentinel nodes were localized by standard scintigraphic techniques. For each patient, nodal metastases and 6-15 areas from multiple paraffin blocks of the primary carcinoma were isolated by microdissection. AI was assessed by microsatellite typing at 26 chromosomal regions; genome-wide copy number variation was examined using Affymetrix GeneChip Human Mapping 500K arrays and the Genotyping Consol. The genomic heritage of sentinel and non-sentinel nodal metastases in relation to multiple areas of the primary tumor was assessed by hierarchical clustering and phylogenetic analyses.&amp;#x2028; Results: Extensive genomic heterogeneity was observed in primary tumors and among nodal metastases (0-44% in primaries, 0-36% in metastases). Overall levels of variation were significantly higher (P&amp;lt;0.01) in primary tumors (17%) than metastases (10%), but did not differ between sentinel (10.2%) and non-sentinel (10.0%) metastases. Within patients, many (but not all) metastases appeared to be descended from different areas of the primary tumor, but patterns of descent were complex. As a group, sentinel node metastases were not genomically distinct from other axillary node metastases, and there was no evidence that SLN metastases are seeded by cells that colonize the axilla early in tumorigenesis.&amp;#x2028; Discussion: Although metastases develop in a sequential manner that maintains the known capability of SLN biopsy to accurately stage the axilla, metastases appear to develop from genomically-diverse progenitor cells descended from different areas of the primary tumor. Genomic diversity in primary tumors and metastases may be an important factor in prognosis and treatment resistance in breast cancer patients. The women selected by random sampling were classified into four groups according to their body cathexis and make-up attitude in order to investigate influences in psychological expecter effects of make-up. For the study, a questionnaire survey was conducted of 436 women in between their twenties to fifties residing in the Kyeongnam region. Obtained data were analyzed pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The result are as follows. Cluster was classified into four groups: positive congruity(G1), positive incongruity(G2), negative congruity(G3), negative incongruity(G4). The make-up behaviors were found to be very influential factors, and so were desires and clothing values in some degree. But, the psychological expecter effects of make-up according to body cathexis and make-up attitude of adult women showed a difference in subordinate factors of desire, clothing value, and make-up behavior in view of their peculiarities classified in detail.

The result are as follows. Cluster was classified into four groups: positive congruity(G1), positive incongruity(G2), negative congruity(G3), negative incongruity(G4). Four groups showed meaningful difference each other between the peculiarity of Clothing value and Make-up behavior. Make-up behaviors were different at the peculiarity of minutely divided groups under the standard of physical satisfaction and Make-up attitude, and they showed difference in the influence of value affected to each behavior. So it was testified that Make-up behavior can be different depending on the value of respective persons.

Consumers’ makeup behavior has changed greatly in past several years. Lipsticks and foundation were mainly used before, but recently mascara is becoming widely used to emphasize their eyes. Following this change, the market for makeup remover also changed. That is, the market for cleansing oil, which has superior eye makeup removing ability, expanded quickly. The cleansing oils contain oils and surfactants. The latter emulsify the oils and help them to be washed away. Multichain non‐ionic surfactants are usually used for their high emulsifying ability and for their low safety risk. However, conventional cleansing oils cannot be used with wet hands, because oils are emulsified, and makeup removing ability obviously declines. Recently, a new cleansing oil that can be used with wet hands was developed. As it can solubilize a lot of water in itself, it retains its makeup removing ability in spite of the water contamination. To realize the high water solubilizing ability, it is important to use a surfactant that has a lipophobic group like the hydroxyl group as well as to control the HLB of the entire system.

A Psychiatric Case Study

PATRICIA SUMMERLY had been married ten years when she developed her first mental disturbance and sought treatment in a state hospital. Her family had noticed for some time that she presented a complete departure from her usual self. Her usual quiet, self-possessed, matter-of-fact make-up was displaced by a childlike, simple, often foolish, simpering attitude. This symptom group was so puzzling and, manifestly, so new that they were convinced that there was something materially wrong with her mind. During this phase of her illness her personality make-up and general behavior were comparable to those of a child of ten or twelve. She would become coy or playful; would show a slight drawl and lisp in her speech; would hang her head sideways and look up shyly; twist her finger in her mouth, and act typically the half-coy, half-embarrassed child. This complete change in her make-up was said to have been precipitated by an attack of influenza about two months prior to commitment. Her family and personal history were uneventful. She was twentyeight years of age, the third born of seven children in a poor laboring family. The father, a wheel-chair invalid for years, was not only paying for his early alcoholic excesses but continued to burden his family by his helpless invalidism and grouchy, irritable disposition. The mother, a nervous, timid, care-worn woman, had for years shouldered the entire burden of providing for her large family and invalid husband. The patient's personal history was entirely negative. She was a healthy child; suffered no developmental diffi-
