The data on the dexamethasone suppression test (DST) in a consecutive series of 101 adolescent inpatients are presented. In those with a diagnosis of major depression according to DSM-III criteira, 64% showed nonsuppression. In contrast, only 15% of conduct disorder patients showed nonsuppression. The authors conclude that the DST was useful in confirming a diagnosis of major depression in adolescents.
