Evaluation of magnetostriction constant in amorphous ribbons utilizing the velocity change of a magnetoelastic wave

The magnetoelastic coupling constant B, or the saturation magnetostrictive constant λ s in highly magnetostrictive amorphous ribbons was evaluated indirectly from the change of the sound velocity under application of external field or uniaxial tensile strain by comparing with the theory based upon the one-dimensional elastic beam model.

Zero magnetostriction and low field magnetic properties of Co-Fe base amorphous alloys containing V,Nb,Ta,Cr,Mo,W,Mn or Ni

Low-field magnetic properties of the zero magnetostrictive amorphous ribbons of (Co, Fe, M)78Si8B14 alloys (M=V,Nb,Ta,Cr,Mo,W,Mn or Ni) have been investigated. In all of these systems, the zero magnetostriction lines are located in the iron poor side less than 10 at%. The alloys containing VA and VIA group elements show highly improved low-field magnetic properties with the effective permeability exceeding 105 and the coercive force less than 2 mOe after the optimum heat treatment.

Theory of giant ΔE effect in magnetostrictive amorphous ribbons

A phenomelogical theory is given of the magnetoelastic coupling to account for the giant ΔE effect observed in highly magnetostrictive amorphous ribbons by changing a bias field. This effect is intrinsic and is formulated by simultaneous second order differential equations in which the high magnetoelastic coupling together with the high permeable properties play essential roles. This theory gives the principle of operating the sound transmission elements, such as continuously variable delay line and tunable magnetostrictive transducer.
