Makna Patriotisme dalam Lirik Lagu Rock Indonesia

This study aims to construct the meaning of patriotism in Indonesian rock song lyrics using Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic approach. The analyzed songs are "Jadilah Legenda" by Superman Is Dead, "Garuda di Dadaku" by Netral, "Bendera" by Cokelat, and "Dari Mata Sang Garuda" by Pee Wee Gaskins. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method by analyzing the song lyrics based on Pierce's semiotic theory, which divides signs into trichotomies: qualisign, sinsign, and legisign; as well as icon, index, and symbol; and also rheme, dicent sign, and argument. The results show that Indonesian rock song lyrics have complex and rich forms and meanings of patriotism. Through the use of semiotic signs, the lyrics not only express love and pride for the homeland but also invite listeners to actively participate in preserving and fighting for national values. This study provides significant contributions to understanding how Indonesian rock music can serve as a medium for expressing patriotism and a tool to inspire collective action within society

Nowadays, song lyrics have become an expression of the writer's heart which is then sung by singers with a certain style and distinctive characteristics. The song then becomes a 'prayer' from the writer for the listener, which invites the listener to feel love and joy and also undeniably invites a feeling of sadness together. This research is a type of qualitative descriptive research which uses a communication science approach, specifically focusing on mass communication, one of the objects of research is the lyrics in question. Meanwhile, the data collection method used in this research is Ferdinand Saussure's semiotic theory, observation is also of course documentation to strengthen and serve as authentic evidence. Kritik Sosial dalam Lirik Lagu Album Akibat Pergaulan Blues Karya Musisi Jason Ranti

Jason Ranti, in the lyrics of his album entitled The Effects of Blues Association, conveys a lot of criticism and satire on social problems which are considered problems by society depending on the social value system of that society, however there are the same problems faced by society in general, for example the problem of poverty and crime. , family disorganization, the younger generation in modern society, war, violations of societal norms, population, the environment, and bureaucracy. This type of research is qualitative. According to Semi (1993:23), qualitative research is carried out without prioritizing numbers, but prioritizing the depth of appreciation of the interactions between concepts that are being studied empirically. This research using qualitative methods cannot be measured, because its nature emphasizes socially constructed reality. Data from the results of this research found social criticism in the song lyrics in Jason Ranti's album Akun Pergaulan Blues as many as 24 data in the form of several fragments of song lyrics which include 3 types of social criticism, namely (1) social criticism about violations of societal norms (2) social criticism about religious behavior and beliefs (3) social criticism about politics and bureaucracy. It can be concluded that the social criticism contained in the lyrics of the song Album "Results of Promiscuity" by Jason Ranti is social criticism of violations of societal norms, social criticism of religious behavior and beliefs, and social criticism of politics and bureaucracy.

Analysing metaphors of katy perry's song lyrics

This study concentrated on examining metaphor in three Katy Perry songs: Fireworks, Hot n Cold, and Roar. The data in this study were analyzed using qualitative research. According to the findings, there were seven different sorts of metaphors utilized in the three Katy Perry songs. Active metaphor, subjective metaphor, mimetic metaphor, phenomenalistic metaphor, precision metaphor, symbolic metaphor, and approximately metaphor were the seven types of metaphor employed and defined. Overall, based on our analysis, Katy Perry did an excellent job of conveying the idea of the song; she compares a condition of affairs to making it more exciting, and her usage of the word is more varied and broader.

Literary Stylistics Features in the Musical Drama NURBAYA by Indonesia Kaya

This study examines the literary stylistic features in NURBAYA, a contemporary Indonesian musical drama produced by Indonesia Kaya. Employing Leech and Short's (1981) framework, the research focuses on sound patterns and figures of speech, investigating how these elements enhance narrative cohesion and emotional impact while reflecting cultural values. Using qualitative content analysis, the study systematically categorizes and interprets stylistic features in conversation utterances and song lyrics. The analysis reveals a prevalence of sound patterns, particularly rhyme, which contributes to the musical's rhythmic quality and cohesion. Figures of speech, notably litotes, are employed to reflect cultural values of politeness and subtlety. For instance, the frequent use of litotes (found in 35% of character dialogues) underscores adherence to traditional norms, enhancing the play's cultural resonance. NURBAYA, as a bridge between traditional and contemporary Indonesian theatre, offers a unique lens for examining the evolution of literary style in performance art. This study demonstrates how specific literary devices enrich artistic expression and reinforce cultural themes in contemporary Indonesian theatre. These findings contribute to our understanding of the interplay between linguistics, literature, and cultural expression in performing arts, offering insights into how stylistic analysis can illuminate broader sociocultural dynamics in theatrical works.

Poverty is a problem that has not been resolved until now. this study will discuss the portrait of proverty in a literary work, namely a poem by W.S Rendra entitled Orang-Orang Miskin and the lyrics of Iwan Fals’ song entitled Pinggiran Kota Besar. The type of research applied is descriptive qualitative research using comparative literature as a method. The approach used in this research is an objective approach. This research was conducted to see the form of proverty described in poetry Orang-Orang Miskin by W.S Rendra and song lyrics Pinggiran Kota Besar by Iwan Fals. The results found in this research are similarities and differences in showing poverty in poetry and song lyrics. The similarities found are in the form of topics discussed, namely regarding poverty and criticism of the government regarding justice while the things that distinguish the way poverty is described.

The research addresses the gap in understanding the specific mechanisms through which contemporary music reflects complex emotional states. Utilizing qualitative text analysis, the study examines the song's interpersonal dynamics, framing, and metaphors. Findings reveal a tension between the protagonist's public persona and private pain, highlighted through vivid metaphors and imagery that depict resilience despite adversity. This analysis contributes to the broader discourse on music as a form of emotional expression, emphasizing its societal implications.

This research focuses on analyzing the meaning of the lyrics of the song Alenia by Batas Senja. The lyrics of the song Alenia are the first hit single released by the indie band Batas Senja in 2007. The meaning of the song lyrics is important because it is an expression from the songwriter to the public. The aim of this research is to find out the meaning contained in the lyrics of the song Alenia using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic approach. Saussure's semiotics focuses on signifier and signified. The method used to analyze data was a qualitative descriptive method. This method was used because the data are in the form of words. The result of this research showed that the meaning contained in the lyrics of the song Alenia is the story of the life journey of someone who fought persistently and never gave up in facing all the trials of life. Besides that, to keep moving forward and not be afraid to always try new things so that it does not just produce a monotonous story. This song encourages listeners to pursue their dreams and aspirations with full determination. This message reminds us not only to dream, but also to act and try to make it happen. Therefore, this song inspires us to keep running to look for new things in life and not stop until our goals are achieved.

Make Me Black Music Video: A Project of DIVAS for Social Justice

The Make Me Black Music Video is a collaborative project created in 2022 by students of the STEAM for Social Change program to honor Black History Month. The initial idea for the music video was inspired when one of the STEAM for Social Change facilitators first heard the song while listening to a local Minnesota radio station, Purple Current. Also available as an internet stream, the Purple Current radio station focuses on Black music that honors the legacy of the late musician Prince Rogers Nelson. As the facilitator listened to the song Make Me Black, originally performed by Minnesotan Ashley Dubose, they saw it as a medium for teaching students the importance of seeing themselves as beautiful and joyful, while instilling pride in where they come from. Before creating their music video, students engaged in an 8-week session where they learned the history of MTV, including how the channel failed to play any artists of color until Michael Jackson’s Thriller became a global phenomenon in 1983. Students also analyzed the song lyrics, created storyboards using Polaroid cameras, and learned about the fundamentals of music video production. The original music was produced by Rich Lee and performed by Ashley DuBose. The students’ music video was filmed on location at their school sites and the DIVAS for Social Justice makerspace. It also features the artwork of educator and artist, Adam Johnson.

An Analysis of Idiomatic Expressions found in The Lightning Thief Song Lyrics

The title of this study is An Analysis of Idiomatic Expressions Found In “The Lightning Thief (Original Cast Recording)” Song Lyrics. The objective of this study is to analyze the existence of idioms inside of an existing work of literature in the form of songs as part of a musical play and what does the idiom classified as, specifically what set them apart from each other and what pattern made them classified as one type through their semantic side. This study also includes an analysis of idiomatic expressions in the form of idiom references as it is considered part of the character’s personal touch as part of a story. Through a qualitative research method, the writer gathers and analyzes each idiom that exists based on listed idioms of the fourth edition of Oxford Dictionary of Idioms by John Ayto to separate them into 3 idiom classifications made by Cacciari & Glucksberg in 1991 to those are Compositional Opaque, Compositional Transparent, and Quasi Metaphorical. Each type is sometimes difficult to classify, possibly due to the existence of either phrasal verbs or individual words that have multiple meanings.

“Me aviento el English y el Spanish”: Spanish-English code-switching in Texas conjunto artist Nick Villarreal

Aims and objectives: This study focuses on Nick Villarreal (1951–2017), a bilingual and bicultural conjunto musician from San Antonio. It ascertains the frequency, formal features, and socio-pragmatic functions of the Spanish/English code-switching found in his songs. Methodology: Quantitative and qualitative approaches are utilized to explore Nick Villarreal’s use of code-switching in song lyrics. Data and analysis: Nick Villarreal’s commercially available discography (178 non-repeated tracks) was classified by matrix language. All instances of code-switching were identified and classified by type, syntactic category, and function. Song themes were inductively analyzed. Findings: Most of Nick Villarreal’s lyrics are in Spanish (73%), while 22% contain code-switching. Lexical insertions are the most common type of switches (65%). Villarreal also employs other contact phenomena, such as fully nativized borrowings, and syntactic and semantic calques. His virtuosity is apparent in his humorous bilingualism, especially in the creative nominalizations of English clauses as nicknames (e.g., la I-didn’t-do-it). The main function performed by switches is poetic—that is, stylistic uses of language, such as rhyming, joking, and puns. He conveys authenticity through code-switching and other enregistered linguistic sources such as border slang, or caló, and working-class/rural Mexican Spanish. He shows loyalty toward a working-class rural Spanish-speaking audience of conjunto that shares his background, while simultaneously appealing to second-generation Mexican Americans through his use of English and references to Anglo culture. Originality: Only recently have scholars begun to describe the linguistic features of borderland styles. This study focuses on an artist who has never received scholarly attention before but who turned his music into a meaningful vehicle for linguistic and cultural anti-assimilatory subversion. Implications: Villarreal employs strategies common to other borderlands bilingual musicians while innovating creatively. He actively stylizes the local to evoke a sense of authenticity and is thus a meaningful example of the intersection between language representation, class allegiance, linguistic attitudes, and cultural stance.

With the widespread use of social media, particularly the YouTube platform, it has emerged as one of the most significant phenomena in the current digital landscape. It serves not only as a medium for sharing and accessing visual content but also as a space for various forms of creativity, innovation, invention, and information. Its extensive use is evident in the rapidly increasing amount of content covering diverse topics such as entertainment, product reviews, and education, including the delivery of learning materials, learning activities, instructional models, and even song translations from one language to another. The purpose of this study is to analyze errors in the translation of syllables (maqtha’) in Indonesian songs translated into Arabic on several YouTube channels. The approach used in this research is qualitative with a descriptive-analytical method. The main data sources are translated song lyrics from the channels “Kampung Arab Al-Azhar” and “Inspirasi Arabia”, both focusing on the same theme, namely “Mungkin”. Secondary sources include books, magazines, journals, and scholarly articles closely related to the topic. Data collection methods utilized include observation and documentation on one of the relevant YouTube channels. The research findings indicate that Arabic phonetics play a crucial role in translating Indonesian songs into Arabic to maintain the beauty of the target language by ensuring syllable harmony between the source and target languages.

THE GREEK MYTH IN AFRO-BRAZILIAN CULTURAL SPACE (STUDYING THE FILM “BLACK ORPHEUS” DIRECTED BY M. CAMUS)

The article focuses on the study of the peculiarities of interpretation of Greek myth in the Afro-Brazilian cultural space using the material of the film “Black Orpheus” directed by M. Camus, based on the play “Orfeu da Conceição” by Vinicius de Moraes. The author traces the origins of the appeal to the image of Orpheus in the works of Camus and Moraes, and reveals the connection with the French dramatic tradition and cinema. M. Camus transforms the Greek story through the prism of the culture of the Afro-Brazilian population of Rio de Janeiro — the inhabitants of the favelas. The film brings to the fore the musical component of the myth, with the help of which the originality of the Afro-Brazilian tradition and carnival practices of Latin America are revealed. Orpheus in the film appears as a tram driver, singer and leader of a samba school. His image combines the Dionysian principle (the carnival tradition into which Orpheus is “inscribed”) and the Apollonian (expressed in lyrical songs and cultural codes of bossa nova). The carnival “building” of mythological reality allows us to touch the spiritual layers of the Brazilian tradition — the syncretic cult of Candomble. The space of the Macumba ritual symbolizes the Kingdom of Hades, in which dialogue with Eurydice is carried out through musical magic that opens doors between the worlds. The passage through the Kingdom of the Dead represents a rite of passage in which the hero dies and is reincarnated in a new form: in the finale, Orpheus “transfers” his musical gift to the boy, symbolically gaining new life in him. The interpretation of the ancient Greek plot in the space of Afro-Brazilian carnival practices helps to reveal the civilizational specificity of Latin America and Orfeus as an “eternal image” that embodies the divine gift of love, the magic of music, and eternal existence through a change of forms.

Exploring the Impact of Positive Psychology-Based Virtual Music Therapy on Mental Health in Stressed College Students during COVID-19: A Pilot Investigation.

This study explored the effectiveness of a virtual music therapy program, based on positive psychotherapy principles, in college students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Twenty-four undergraduate students with partial PTSD were initially assigned to either an experimental group or a control group, with 11 participants in each group by the study's end. The experimental group underwent 15 video sessions of the therapy program, completing one session per weekday over 3 weeks. The program involved worksheets targeting goals aligned with positive psychology, such as positive affect, life meaning, personal strengths, gratitude, hope, and happiness. The activities included writing music autobiographies, creating and analyzing song lyrics, and exploring various music pieces. The effectiveness of the intervention was measured using the 21-item Depression Anxiety Stress Scale and the Korean Version of Positive Psychological Capital (K-PPC) before, immediately after, and 3 weeks post-program. The experimental group showed significant improvements in stress (F = 5.759, p < 0.05), anxiety (F = 4.790, p < 0.01), depression (F = 5.740, p < 0.01), self-efficacy (F = 3.723, p < 0.05), resilience (F = 4.739, p < 0.05), and the K-PPC total score (F = 3.740, p < 0.05) compared with the control group. These improvements were maintained at the 3-week follow-up. The findings suggest that positive psychology-based virtual music therapy can significantly enhance the mental health of highly stressed college students, especially during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Analysis of the Experiential Metafunction in the Lyrics of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song”

This study employs a qualitative content analysis method to explore the experiential metafunction within the lyrics of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song." The methodology comprises acquiring the song lyrics from credible sources and scrutinizing them to identify the processes, participants, and circumstances depicted within the composition. The analytical approach focuses on understanding how these elements contribute to the narrative and thematic depth of the song. Through the analysis, several key findings emerge: Participant 1 varies between personal pronouns, groups, and abstract entities, representing different facets of the narrative and thematic elements. Material processes predominate, highlighting the tangible struggle for freedom depicted in the song. Participant 2 encompasses various entities affected by the actions of Participant 1, showcasing the multifaceted nature of the struggle for liberation. Circumstances provide additional details about the actions, contextualizing them within specific timeframes, locations, mannerisms, and motivations. This analysis offers a comprehensive understanding of how Bob Marley utilized language to construct a powerful and impactful message of redemption and empowerment in his iconic song. By investigating into the experiential metafunction, this study sheds light on the intricacies of Marley's lyrical style and the enduring relevance of his music in addressing social and spiritual liberation.

GENDERED PERSPECTIVES IN SELECTED ZIMDANCEHALL BILINGUAL SONGS: AFRICANA WOMANISM

There is no study which is based on lyrics of songs about a sextape. Hence, the purpose of the study was to understand the gendered perspectives of four Zimbabwe singers towards explicit recording as reflected in the lyrics of their songs. Africana Womanism was deployed as a theory on the relationship between black males and females. The methodology was Critical Discourse Analysis in which purposefully selected artistes’ music lyrics were analysed. D Flexx’s song, “Hombe Yalevels”, “Ane hombe dzinotapira” (Ndunge Yut), “Tsamba kuna Levels” (Lorna Real Love) and Libronie’s “Ane hombe” which were released after the sextape scandal were examined in this study. From the findings, we argue that singers of the four songs failed Shashl as a woman and fellow musician by focusing on DJ Level’s perceived sexual prowess. Public figures ought to consult advisers, managers and veterans in their fields and government departments should partner stakeholders like businesses, brand experts and counsellors to explain the need for maintaining integrity.

This song can be a source of strength and inspiration for those who are feeling a loss of confidence. This research uses a qualitative research method with van dijk's discourse analysis approach. This analysis focuses on the macro and micro structure of the song text, as well as the social context and social cognition. The results show that the lyrics of the song Feel Special contain the meaning of the importance of loving oneself and accepting one's shortcomings, as well as telling the story of a person who feels insecure and insecure, then he learns to become more confident. This message is conveyed through various discourse strategies, such as text, social cognition and social context. The meaning of this song can help its listeners to increase their self-confidence and self-acceptance.

CLASSIFICATION OF EMOTIONS IN THE LYRICS OF NANCY AJRAM'S SONGS (DAVID KRECH'S PSYCHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF LITERATURE)

Emotions are feelings that have a big influence on behavior. Therefore, emotions are an important aspect in human life. Humans have many ways to express the emotions they feel. For example, literary works include poetry, novels, films, dramas, diaries, biographies and songs. However, it is not uncommon for someone to use a foreign language song to describe their feelings, the lyrics of the song are not in sync with what the person wants to convey because they don't know how to translate the song lyrics, let alone the meaning of the song. . This research aims to find out what emotions are contained in song lyrics, especially Nancy Ajram's songs, based on David Krech's emotion classification theory. The research method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive research method in which the results of the analysis are described and qualified based on the existing theory. used is David Krech's emotion classification theory. The results of this research are, of the four classifications of emotions proposed by David Krech, not all classifications of emotions are found in the lyrics of Nancy Ajram's songs, Nancy Ajram's songs are suitable as a medium for expressing emotions, of course by knowing the contents of the song first.

Relevansi Pendekatan Semantik Pada Lirik Lagu “Bertaut” Karya Nadin Amizah Dengan Pembelajaran Teks Puisi

Literary works in the form of songs are a form of literary work that has lyrics or can be said to be poetry. When learning Indonesian, students do not understand the similarities between songs and poetry. This research aims to determine the semantic meaning of songs which are related to the physical structure of poetry and can be understood in learning Indonesian in poetry texts. The method used in the research is descriptive qualitative method. The techniques used in this research are note-taking and research techniques. The aim of this technique is to achieve a deep understanding of the meaning of the song "Bertaut" by studying the poetic text. The researcher conducted the research in stages, (1) understanding the content of the song lyrics, (2) including the song lyrics completely and completely, (3) analyzing some of the meanings of words related to the physical structure of the poem in the song lyrics, (3) explaining the results of the analysis, (4) summarizing the results of the analysis. The results of the research are that the structural similarities between the two are found in the meaning of the words and the language styles used such as hyperbole and connotation.
