A method is presented to obtain low voltage standing wave ratio over a fairly large frequency band, using metal ridges in a feedhorn system. The inherent mismatch in the system is nullified using a metallic ridge, the contour of which governs the nature of the reflections. Exact contour for ridge has been determined using various taper functions, to ensure a frequency-independence for the matching obtained. This method is particularly useful in complex feed systems where proper matching cannot be achieved exclusively from design considerations. Besides, such matching ridges are shown effective in equalizing the beam widths in principal planes.
