MEDIA COVERAGE OF NOWRUZ RITUALS AND REFLECTIONS: SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES ACROSS THE TURKIC WORLD

This research looks at the celebration of Nowruz, a holiday that represents plenty, growth, togetherness, revival, and new beginnings, in seven Independent Turkish States. Nowruz happens on March 21 and the days around it. Nowruz has special traditions like egg tapping, fire jumping, and iron shaping, showing both similar and different cultural customs among these states. Though there are differences, the fundamental essence of Nowruz, based on a shared historical culture, shows the enduring link between past and future traditions. Using content analysis with Maxqda 2020, this study examined news reports from 2015-2020 in three newspapers from each of Turkey, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. Results show a focus on events rather than rituals, with usual practices like fire jumping and egg tapping next to special local traditions and games, showing the cultural importance of Nowruz as a cherished and ongoing celebration.

The effect of attitude towards behaviour, local wisdom culture, whistleblowing intention on fraud prevention

The potential state losses due to corruption cases that occurred in Indonesia from 2017-2021 tend to increase very significantly. This research aims to explore the relationship between attitude and whistleblowing intentions which is also strengthened by local wisdom as well as the role of whistleblowing intention and its influence on fraud prevention. The research method used in this research is a quantitative approach using SEM PLS. The research results show that attitude towards behavior influences whistleblowing intention and whistleblowing intention influences fraud prevention. Meanwhile, the role of local wisdom is not proven to increase the whistleblower's attitude to act to report fraud violations. It is hoped that the results of this research can be used as a consideration in making decisions related to the phenomenon of whistleblowing and fraud in the world of practice and will also become material to be scrutinized in determining applicable regulatory policies to improve local traditions.

PKM PELATIHAN PENYUSUNAN LAPORAN KEUANGAN SEDERHANA DAN PEMASARAN ONLINE KELOMPOK USAHA PENGRAJIN TENUN DI BALI

The Ngaben ceremony is a cremation tradition in Balinese culture, Indonesia. The weaving used in this ceremony has special meaning and symbolism. The selection of weaving for the Ngaben ceremony is generally adjusted to local beliefs and traditions. Several types of weaving that are generally used in the Ngaben ceremony involve certain colors and motifs that have deep meaning. From the raw material, yarn will become woven fabric. Weaving craftsmen in Kumbasari Market, Denpasar City, Bali can produce various kinds of woven fabrics for the Ngaben ceremony. The community service program is carried out in the trading and production business of weaving crafts "Tenun Lestari" located in Denpasar City, Bali Province. Tenun Lestari is a partner owned by I Made Mertadana as well as a maker/craftsman of weaving crafts. The problems faced by partners include: 1) Not having bookkeeping to calculate business profits and losses. 2) Not having bookkeeping in calculating the cost of production. 3) Not having a product brochure so it is difficult to do promotions. The solutions offered to overcome these problems include: 1) Establishment and design of a profit and loss bookkeeping system, 2) Establishment and design of a production cost bookkeeping system, and 3) Making brochures of the products owned.

The Development of Integrated Marketing Communication Strategies for Organizing International Running Events

This study employs a mixed-methods approach with the following objectives1) To study integrated marketing communication strategies for organizing international running events. 2) To examine the factors influencing the decision to participate in international running events. 3) To investigate the service marketing mix (7Ps) factors that affect the decision to participate in international running events. 4) To analyze the influence of social media on the participation in international running events. The findings reveal that successful marketing strategies for international running events require clear objectives and distinctive product positioning, incorporating creative elements with local identity, culture, traditions, cuisine, and tourist attractions into the event design. These elements should be reflected in race apparel, medals, trophies, and the overall atmosphere to enhance participants' experiences, which can then be shared on social media platforms. This approach fosters loyalty and encourages repeat participation and event promotion. Additionally, integrated marketing communication tools must be utilized to effectively engage potential participants and stimulate interest. Among the 7Ps of service marketing, the distribution channel emerged as the most influential factor affecting participation decisions. Structural equation modeling analysis further indicates that the marketing mix factors directly influence social media exposure, and both marketing mix factors and social media exposure directly impact the decision to participate in international running events. Indirectly, social media exposure mediates the relationship between the marketing mix and participation decisions.

Exploring the Rational and Supernatural: Wang Chong’s Critical Analysis of Ghosts and Deities in Han Dynasty Customs

This paper examines the critical perspectives of scholars during the Han Dynasty on customs and beliefs related to ghosts and deities. Focusing on Wang Chong as an example, it explores the naturalistic explanations of life and death, the concept of ghosts and deities, and the associated customs of funerals, sacrifices, and taboos. Wang Chong’s criticisms focused on the core ideologies that underpinned funeral practices, sacrifices, and taboos and attempted to undermine the essence of these traditional customs. By reinterpreting funeral practices, sacrifices, and taboos from a ritualistic perspective that emphasized the social function rather than their supernatural implications, Wang Chong aimed to reconcile local tradition with rationality and promote a more profound understanding of the world. His approach, though complex and at times seemingly contradictory, holds an important position among the intellectual critiques of customs and beliefs during the Han Dynasty, and it sheds light on the challenges faced by ancient Chinese scholars in navigating the intersections between rationality, morality, and religion.

Utilization of Lake Toba culinary identity for gastronomic tourism development

This research explores the potential of gastronomic tourism in the Lake Toba region of Indonesia, focusing on the unique culinary identity and traditions of the Batak tribe. Batak culinary practices are firmly rooted in local traditions and environmental conditions, with major traditional foods and drinks such as Tuak, Na Niura, and Mie Gomak having strong cultural values. Currently, Lake Toba gastronomic tourism has not become a leading tourism destination. The purpose of this study is to examine how environmental and cultural factors affect local cuisine and beverages in the Lake Toba region and to identify challenges and opportunities in promoting these gastronomic assets effectively. This qualitative research uses interviews, observations, and documentation to collect data. Key stakeholders, including local business owners and Batak cultural experts were interviewed using non-probability snowball sampling to gain comprehensive insights into the region's culinary identity. The results of the study highlight the cultural significance and potential tourist attraction of traditional Batak food and beverages. However, challenges such as tourists' lack of knowledge about local cuisine were identified. The study shows that a more structured and strategic approach, including annual food festivals and culinary tours, is needed to increase the demand for Lake Toba's Gatronomi tourism. This study underscores the need for an annual Lake Toba Gastronomy festival to utilize local culinary heritage, thereby increasing cultural preservation and tourism development in the Lake Toba region.

Collaborative Preaching for Collective Trauma Healing: A Model from Indonesia

In this article, I propose a collaborative preaching model for healing collective trauma. It begins with the preaching context of a society in the grip of collective trauma after a traumatic event. Taking the May 1998 tragedy in Jakarta, Indonesia, as a case study and employing descriptive, historical, and analytical methods, this study argues that the Church is called to respond to collective trauma in its ministries as part of God’s mission. The research focuses specifically on the ministry of preaching and explores theories of trauma-aware preaching to affirm that preaching can indeed be a medium for healing collective trauma. I then present a collaborative preaching model for collective trauma healing by integrating a conversational preaching approach with the local Indonesian traditions of gotong-royong and musyawarah-mufakat.

Musical Structures of Weifang Folk Songs: A Study in Contemporary Social Contexts

Background and Aims: This study delves into the musical structure of Weifang Chinese folk songs within their contemporary social context, aiming to investigate the musical structure of Weifang Chinese folk songs in their current social context. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive methodology integrating ethnographic fieldwork, archival research, interviews, and musical analysis was employed. Fieldwork in the Weifang region involved observing folk song performances, interacting with local musicians, and documenting cultural practices. Archival research examined historical materials, while interviews gathered insights from folk musicians, community members, and cultural experts. Musical analysis and transcription techniques were applied to understand the intricate musical structures of Weifang folk songs. Results: The study revealed the diverse genres, expressive themes, and unique musical structures of Weifang folk songs, including the two-sentence, three-sentence, four-sentence, and multisentence patterns. The songs exhibited rich cultural tapestries, reflecting local customs, language traditions, and communal sentiments. Conclusion: Weifang folk songs have evolved to adapt to changing social dynamics, serving functions ranging from labor encouragement to educational inheritance and entertainment. The study underscores the significance of cultural heritage preservation programs and interdisciplinary collaborations to safeguard and promote Weifang's musical legacy.

Study the Potential of Tangible and Intangible Folk Heritage in Promoting Tourism in Yamuna River Basin of Garhwal Himalayan Region

In order to develop sustainable tourism in the Yamuna River Basin of the Garhwal Himalayan area, this research explores the possibility of using both physical and intangible cultural heritage. Architectural wonders, traditional crafts, oral traditions, performing arts, and celebratory events are all part of the region's rich cultural fabric, which is explored via qualitative analysis of secondary data sources. The study's overarching goal is to inform policymakers and practitioners on how to best promote culturally sensitive tourism that creates jobs and protects local traditions without compromising the integrity of historic sites.

Peran Seni Dalam Mempertahankan Identitas Budaya Lokal Di Era Modern

This study is a systematic literature review utilizing sources from Scopus, DOAJ, and Google Scholar, focusing on publications from 2013 to 2023. The findings assert the significant and relevant role of cultural arts in preserving local identities in the modern era. Cultural arts serve as social cohesion agents, safeguarding local traditions and values amidst the changes and influences of globalization and modernization. Various forms of artistic expression such as painting, music, dance, and literature play a crucial role in strengthening and preserving local identities, fostering awareness of cultural diversity within the dynamics of the modern world. Cultural arts also facilitate dialogue between local traditions and modern innovations, enabling productive interaction between existing and emerging elements, and stimulating critical reflection on the interpretation of traditional values in the evolving context of time. However, there are gaps in this research highlighting the lack of in-depth studies on the impact of modern technology on cultural artistic expression and local identity, which require further attention in the future.

Implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project for Preserving Local Traditions at MTsN 17 Jombang

This study aims to explore the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) in preserving local traditions at MTsN 17 Jombang, East Java. As part of the Merdeka Curriculum, P5 seeks to integrate Pancasila values, including respect for local culture, into the educational process. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis as data collection techniques. The subjects of the study include the school principal, teachers, students, and community leaders involved in the P5 implementation. The findings indicate that the implementation of P5 at MTsN 17 Jombang successfully integrates local traditions into the curriculum through various activities such as traditional dance training, traditional music, handicrafts, and ceremonial events. This project not only enhances students' awareness of local culture but also involves the community in the preservation of traditions. Challenges encountered include limited resources and time for extracurricular activities, as well as the need for teacher training in managing cultural preservation activities. The study concludes that P5 can be an effective model for preserving local traditions through formal education. With the right approach, P5 at MTsN 17 Jombang can serve as a best practice example for integrating local culture into school curricula. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of culturally-based curricula in other schools across Indonesia.

Rambangan and Lelebusayan as a Local Maritime Tradition Embraced by the Artisanal Fishing Community in Sapeken Sub-district, District of Sumenep, Indonesia

The artisanal fishing community in the Saseel and Tanjungkiaok villages in the Sapeken sub-district lives by the marine resources in the maritime area of the Sapeken sub-district. They are engaged in fishing activities through the extraction of fishery resources and seaweed cultivation. Owing to insufficient resources, the fishermen have agreed to utilize resources sparingly for the continuous supply of resources and sustainability of the lives of the fishermen. An effort to maintain the sustainability of the resources is through agreeing to use traditional extraction equipment such as fishing rods and agreeing on the pattern of resource extraction, which is based on the principle of kinship and togetherness. However, social sanction is sometimes applied to fishermen who conduct activities through extraction mechanisms beyond that which are collectively agreed upon; for example, a ban on the extraction within a certain time in the common maritime spaces. Consequently, the conception of Rambangan and Lelebusayan has subsequently emerged and has been developed by the artisanal fishermen communities in Saseel and Tanjungkiaok as a local maritime tradition. This is used as the main life reference for the artisanal fishermen community. Rambangan is a maritime tradition that obliges artisanal fishermen within the community to behave socially, whereas Lelebusayan is a maritime tradition that obliges the artisanal fishermen community to behave spiritually in their utilization of resources.

The Role of Regional Government in Maintaining Local Traditions and Wisdom in Banyumas

This study aim to explores the role of government in guarding and protecting local wisdom, with studies of cases on the phenomenon of Lengger Banyumas. Lengger Banyumas, again a traditional ritual, has undergone transformation and become recognized as entertainment in a wide variety of ways. The focus of the study is to analyze efforts by the concrete of the government to preserve and protect aspects of wisdom locally contained in Lengger Banyumas. This is a type of study description that is qualitative and descriptive, with an approach to ethnography. This study also involves the analysis of documents related to government policy, interviews with holders of interests, and observations directly related to implementation policy. Research results show that the government's role is significant in guarding and protecting local wisdom through various policies, such as conservation programs, culture promotion, tourism sustainability promotion, and coaching community members. However, challenges like modernization and globalization also gave rise to dilemmas in effort preservation. This Study gives outlook deep about dynamics role government in conserve wisdom local, esp in context Lengger Banyumas. Implications from the study can become the basis. To repair government policies and strategies in support of continuity wisdom local, all at once consider various changing times that can influence existence and values from phenomenon culture.

Mediation in Matters Involving Sorcery in PNG Villages and Remote Australian Indigenous Communities

The article discusses the application of mediation to conflict involving sorcery and sorcery-related violence in Papua New Guinea (PNG) villages and remote Australian Indigenous communities. The article proposes that a Hybrid Mediation Approach to managing this form of conflict can be effective. This approach re-imagines the stages of mediation not as fixed or rigid steps but as design parameters that empower the parties through incorporating local values and traditions into the dispute management process. The hybrid element of the approach refers to the incorporation of local values and traditions into the mediation design. The article makes reference to specific examples of sorcery-related conflict at the remote Australian community of Aurukun and a village in PNG to provide a background to this discussion of effective mediation techniques.

Islam Nusantara vs Progressive Islam: Dynamics and Transformation in the Modern Context of Indonesia

This journal explores the comparative dynamics and transformative processes of Islam Nusantara and Progressive Islam within the modern Indonesian context. Islam Nusantara, rooted in local traditions and cultural syncretism, emphasizes moderation, tolerance, and integration with indigenous practices. In contrast, Progressive Islam focuses on rationalism, reform, and socio-political activism, drawing from contemporary interpretations of Islamic teachings. This study examines the historical evolution, theological foundations, and socio-political implications of both movements, highlighting their respective responses to global challenges and local contexts. By analyzing primary sources, field studies, and interviews with key figures, this research elucidates the complexities and intersections between these two paradigms. The findings reveal how Islam Nusantara and Progressive Islam shape Indonesian Muslim identity, influence public discourse, and contribute to the broader narrative of Islamic thought in the 21st century. This study provides a nuanced understanding of the ongoing negotiation between tradition and modernity in Indonesian Islam, offering insights into the future trajectories of these influential movements.

Cultural Tourism in Predominantly Rural Communities. Residents’ Perception in Buzău Carpathians and Subcarpathians (Romania)

Abstract Cultural tourism (CT), although considered by some “friendly tourism”, has its impacts, being perceived by more and more people and communities as a force of change through its diversification. This study is aimed at exploring CT’ in Buzău Carpathians and Subcarpathians (BSC) perception by residents using the interview method, targeting three main objectives: Identifying the profiles of the interviewed residents on CT as a driving factor for future development of CT; Analysing the perceived aspects/elements linked to CT and Identifying the roles played by locals for the valorisation of CT sights. The results show that the residents understood CT as a mix between the natural and cultural dimensions of local reality and its positive impact on local traditions. The study highlights the idea that the residents could and should be active agents for the CT local attractions and for the future development of this type of tourism within the study area.

Pluralistic Approach of Snake Worship in Indian Literature

Ophiolatry, or snake worship, is a pluralistic practice that demonstrates geographical variances, religious syncretism, cultural significance, various ceremonies and offerings, as well as local beliefs and folk traditions in India (Saha, 2020). This highlights the coexistence of various cultures and traditions that add to the diverse range of religious practices in the nation, reflecting the inclusive aspect of Indian society. Indian literature vividly portrays the complex relationship between humans and snakes. This essay explores the intricate bond between snakes and deities, sages, demons, and ancestors, unraveling the essence of this relationship.Through their symbolism, these serpents represent the various cycles of life, death, and rebirth. By delving into the myths, tales, and folklore surrounding snake cults, the ecological, social, and spiritual dimensions of human-snake interactions are revealed. However, this exploration goes beyond surface-level analysis as it delves deep into the ethical and environmental concerns surrounding snake conservation in India.

Knowledge Mobility and the Emergence of Contemporary Iraqi Architecture (1936–1958)

Planned by the British in the aftermath of World War I, the new state of Iraq—ruled by the Hashemite kingdom (1921–1958) under British mandate—emerged on the land of Mesopotamia and inherited its enormous cultural and architectural legacy. Colonial discourse was adopted by the British during the Hashemite reign to impose Western culture and hegemony. This paper reviews the impact of this colonial discourse in terms of Western architectural knowledge mobility on shaping Iraqi contemporary architecture in this epoch. The paper traces the education of nine notable early Iraqi architects with Western architectural academic backgrounds and studies 13 of their public buildings executed in 1936–1958, to reveal the stance of those architects toward this discourse and how their buildings connected to the legacy of Iraqi architecture. Findings rest on a style-coverage of the main local architectural legacy and Western architectural façade’s characteristics to detect and examine the nature and intensity of the transformations that the façades of these buildings exhibit compared to local traditions. Findings show that knowledge mobility helped develop certain types of architects’ responses toward local architectural traditions and colonial discourse that evolved through time during the study target epoch.

Implementation of religious and cultural tourism development policies in Penyengat island

The tourism development program on Pengenyat Island, Tanjungpinang City has been running with the aim of increasing public awareness about the importance of culture and religion. The aim of this research is to analyze the policy implementation model using Meter & Horn (1975) theory. This research method uses a descriptive-qualitative approach by studying related documents and conducting interviews with relevant informants. Data analysis uses triangulation techniques which are analyzed in depth. The research results show that the tourism development program on Penyengat Island has made a positive contribution to tourism development. Model in the Implementation Process of Meter & Horn (1975) Development Policy for Tourism Development on Penyengat Island on Policy Standards and Targets requires continuous evaluation and improvement, then resources are carried out such as training and increasing insight into both human resources and natural resources. The characteristics of the Implementing Organization have the potential to increase cooperation with the government and other related parties. Next, Inter-Organizational Communication is related to institutional capacity in decisions on Development Programs so that the importance of community participation in monitoring, then the Disposition or Attitude of the Implementer and the Implementing Activities that have been carried out must pay attention to the importance of the government playing an active role by paying attention in the early stages of the plan, providing guidance and education to the community . Finally, socio-economic and political environmental conditions need to pay attention to the customs and cultural awareness of local communities that must be maintained in the policy implementation process. The conclusion of this research is that local governments need to increase public awareness about the importance of culture and religion through Tourism Development programs that are in accordance with local culture and traditions.

A Critical Examination of Globalization's Impact on the Economies of Sub-Saharan African Countries

This essay critically examines the impacts of globalization on the economy of Sub-Saharan Africa. Through the method of literature review, this paper explores the impact of globalization on international trade, foreign investment, and local development trends, while also emphasizing the negative consequences, such as economic disparities and cultural shocks. The analysis delves into theories including Friedman's "The World is Flat" and Wallerstein's world systems theory, comparing their global perspectives with the realities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Case studies illustrate the dual nature of globalization: its contribution to economic growth and the emergence of socioeconomic obstacles. The essay provides policy recommendations to effectively utilize the advantages of globalization while mitigating its negative effects, aiming to achieve inclusive economic growth and save the local cultures and traditions in Sub-Saharan Africa. The significance of this paper is to claim that although there are negative impacts of globalization, the benefits it brings are more important and that globalization should occur in Sub-Saharan Africa.
